i'm not the same anon but i think you make a great point of hotch/haley and jj/will...the parallels are there, i will say that at least we got some glimpse into the background and dynamic between hotch and hailey...i agree with you will and jj was kinda just ...idk it just happened, and their interactions come off,...like they are acting 😂😭if that makes sense like the chemistry is not all the way there, in comparison with her interactions with spence or even garcia you can see real emotion and friendship there

i think her being a young mom overshadows a lot of her character development and storylines also

I have to say that I've been keeping you in my ask box for a while, cause all of this that you wrote has to do everything with the fic that I'm going to post today. There you will get to see my reasoning when I compare willfer to hotchley. And it's so great to see ask like these. But yeah, I agree with everything you said here. But going back to what you said. I mean I did never stop and think about how Will might have been the problem in their relationship all along, we see as you said in evolution JJ making time for her, but I think that Will would be tired of always being the one making plans, as we see in the first episode when there's a reservation they have to cancel. Seeing this season of JJ giving more of herself away to her family in a way has to make her break?

It must be hard balancing a home life and their job (we've seen it how it had consumed Hotch up to the point of him leaving for Jack). What I don't understand is why didn't JJ do the same (i absolutely not want that) but after following the pandemic, wounld that not be the right thing to do? In a few occasions we've seen her with her family in the past seasons. Is JJ now, not trying to turn into Hotch by giving more of herself to them than to her job? There are so many things I don't understand about evolution, all the build up to us seeing Willfer, esentially for nothing has to be the first thing wrong...don't even mention how they managed to fuck up tebecca or garvez..

I think the way you view their relationship is how the writers want you to view it - like they’re the perfect couple and any problems between them can be resolved by better communication (ironically). We’re supposed to see them as the anti-Hotch and Haley because they’ve managed to make their marriage work despite all of the hurdles.

Personally, I don’t see them that way. I don’t like that as far as Will is concerned, JJ is the one at fault for picking her job over her family (which, she never really has done). I’ve always seen him as struggling with JJ being more successful than he is, with JJ taking the more masculine role of being the higher earner, whilst he’s more of the caregiver. I truly don’t think they’d still be together if she hadn’t become pregnant with Henry, and I don’t think they should have got married, especially when their relationship was already strained then. I truly think JJ is with him out of some kind of obligation, and there’s nothing any of the writers can do to ever make me feel differently about that 🤷🏼‍♀️ I get that that might not be how everyone views their relationship, but that is what I have in mind whenever I write them. JJ loves him, but was never in love with him. She married him out of a sense of obligation after he almost died, but more because it’s a way of protecting Henry than because she wanted to be married to him.

In terms of him being annoyed about cancelled plans… he knew what he was signing up for when they met. I don’t think it’s fair to put all of that onto her. She’s always had a career that means she has to travel out of town a lot, that she has to drop everything and go back to work when she’s called, work long hours etc. It’s fair to be annoyed or disappointed about having to cancel plans - the situation is annoying… it is disappointing - but after being with her for, what, 15 years? you’d think he’d be used to it and understand it’s out of her control. I think she doesn’t get cut the slack that Hotch does in early seasons because she’s a woman and therefore more obliged to give up work for her family. But also… Will is a hypocrite. He has a job that is almost as invasive of his personal life as hers. They’re both working at it.

I don’t think JJ would ever give up her job for her family. I truly don’t. If they were to go down that route, I would think it was very ooc for her. Yes, she’s protective of her boys (Henry being worried about the unsub coming to their house made me worry they’d go down this route), but at the end of the day she struggled just being on maternity leave because she was desperate to be back at work. She’s never going to be a person who can just stay home or do an unimportant job. Never. Every time Will has asked her to make that decision, she’s made it clear it isn’t an option.

Also the fact that they wrote them both being in the field in the finale made me so so mad because Will has always insisted that one of them has to be home for the boys. Even outside of the context of the show, you never put a couple into the field together because it effects their responses and their decision making. And beyond that if something HAD happened… that’s instantly two kids who now have no parents. I feel like having him their undermined everything they’ve spent years building in terms of balancing their work with their family, and the fact it was never brought up is absolutely bizarre?

Anyway sorry this ended up long and went on a bit of a tangent haha.

It's true! And while we've heard Luke specifically express desire to have a wife/ partner this season, we have yet to see anything else for him in that regard!

I still remember how Will had acted in season 7, when Henry was sick, demanding JJ to be home with them..and now this happens

I'm so annoyed at the jj and will arc because all that build up and for what???? He doesnt have cancer, neither of them was even wounded in the field??? Why did i have to sit through 10 episodes of lamontagne couples therapy then???

Also im so annoyed seeing them in the field together. 1) a married couple cannot go in the field together bc its clouds their judgement 2) parents shouldnt go into the field together because it increases the chances of ORPHANING their kids 3) the show didnt even give an emotional payoff for it?????

CM Evolution Episode 8 Thoughts

So this episode was really good. AJ did a fantastic job directing and I love the directing style she has when it comes to her episodes

I loved all the Willfer and family scenes and omg I can’t believe how much the kids have grown up. Henry is taller than JJ lol

So glad that Tyler wasn’t in this episode but low key sad Bailey wasn’t in it either

Really wish someone would knock some sense into Garcia and tell her that her relationship is going to have repercussions for the team

Why do I feel like Luke isn’t gonna care at all that Garcia is with Tyler and they’re going to scrap Garvez. If they are might as well as give Luke a boyfriend so he isn’t alone and we can see more of his personal life

The case was interesting and the team are so close to figuring out that Lee is Elias. Can’t wait for that revelation

Rossi showing up at Sydney’s door had be shooked. So curious to see how this will turn out

Everyone seems off and I feel like 6 episodes with no back story on Luke — feels like he checks the Latin box for representation and that’s all.

Last thing I’ll say — Erica Messer is a woman but most of the teams character development is defined by a man — JJ should be unit chief.
