kingdom keepers underdeveloped relationships that barely have any canon and what is canon contradicts itself often in the same book so it’s almost entirely up for interpretation my beloved ♥️

okay let’s go

•charlene and maybeck are that couple that people post pictures of with captions like ‘oh it’s a great day to be bisexual’

•when charlene moves to california to go act maybeck and her make a point to video chat every night

•if one of them’s busy, either with work, school or the occasional patrol around the parks they’ll be texting non stop the next morning

•we know terry canonically uses humor as a coping mechanism for his anxiety. i imagine it takes him a bit to get use to letting charlene see past the brevado

•charlene loves taking him to art museums! she likes to watch him look at the art

•they recreate the pottery wheel scene from ghost- only it ends up with them covered in clay and laughing til their stomachs hurt

•they bond over both having had short term crushes on other keepers- charlene on finn and maybeck on willa.

•philby and willa argue and bicker all the time about the smallest things. they never get super heated, seeing as it’s normally about the correct spelling of tire or something, but they never get tired of it. they have fun doing it

•the other keepers absolutely don’t understand

•they get together after the cruise but end up being pretty on and off until after they go to california together in senior year

•willa ends up dating a few other people in between but despite people asking him out philby doesn’t

•he’s never been more mad at himself then when he broke it off with willa and she started going out with spencer a few weeks later

•they always end up getting back together though

•their dates tend to be study dates or them working out together. not necessarily interacting but still spending time together

•willa’s older brothers intimidate dell to no end where as her younger brothers love him

•dells parents really don’t like that he’s dating willa which pisses him off because they can’t give him a reason so he just wallpapers his walls in pictures of her

•willa steals his sweatshirts; philby loves when she wears his soccer team ones that have his name on the back

•finn and amanda skirt around dating until they’re out of high school

•like they’d never date someone else and they go to all the dances together and they’ve definitely made out (he Bit her Neck!! just casually!! like??)

•but they’re both too nervous to put a label on it

•only after everything with the keepers is over and they’re both figuring out what to do next do they decide to put a label on it

•they have to go long distance because amanda’s at the imagineering academy and finn goes to the UCF

•but just the label is so comforting to both of them

•they’re the ones that get married as soon and they’re out of school. they’re tired of waiting and they’ve known that they’d get together since they were 13 practically. they don’t see the point in waiting

•finn may have been a bit of an idiot when he was 15 but he’s the most attentive boyfriend as they get older

•he loves buying her little gifts when he sees something that reminds him of her

•he bakes her cookies!

•amanda can be a little distant sometimes (years of believing you can’t trust anyone other than you and your sister will do that to you) but finn’s patient and always takes everything at her pace

•group dates! the parks at 2am, driving two hours to the beach to just sit around for a few hours before having to go back, visiting each other at college

Rereading The Kingdom Keepers- Disney After Dark!

Hello everyone! So once again I’m making the attempt to reread Kingdom Keepers. I have tried this many times in the past, probably once a year honestly, and I’ve never gotten farther than Disney in Shadow. BUT, I am determined this time! The point here is, I’m taking reading notes I go of some little fun facts that I forgot previously, and some passages that are just amazing, that I thought I’d share with you all! So, here are my notes on Disney After Dark!

Okay so first of all this is the book from the series that I’ve read the most, but somehow it’s the one I forget the most about

Like there’s just so much happening and without fail I always, always forget all the tiny details of the plot-especially at the end.

This is also the book that seems to present some of the biggest continuity errors that we see later in the series

Maybeck is the computer guy?

Does Finn’s little sister exist here? I don’t know?

Amanda and Jess look like identical twins? But....one of them is white and the other isn’t?

But I digress let’s move on

So the first thing, that you all probably know already, but I just picked up on for the first time in years is that the reason Wayne can’t see the characters and the keepers can is that the keepers are part character because of their DHI status, so they can see other characters

The whole world makes sense now I stg

THIS BOOK IS SO INCREDIBLY DATED AND IT CRACKS ME UP EVERY TIME

Like Hollywood Studios is still MGM

So theoretically, if they’re 14 now, in 2005, they should be like almost 30 now(2018)

However, it is definitely 2014 in book 7 when they’re supposed to be 18, because there are mentions of Frozen, which makes them about....22ish now, soooo you know what I’m just gonna go with it

Anyway back to the actual book

Amanda has freckles!

Also she’s wearing hip-huggers and a crop top I am concern RIDLEY SHE’S 14 PLEASE

While things like this exist that they are doing things that are a bit too mature for 14, there are also moments when they are adorably 13(that’s right they’re still technically 13 in this book)

Like when Finn hangs out with Amanda for the first time and makes notes in his head about what to tell Dillard about her

IT’S SO ADORABLE AND I LOVE IT

Oh when Finn goes to Charlene’s school he gets asked if he was on Zoom

Another thing that majorly dates this book

The introductions of the female characters are kinda...those kind of introductions

Ex: “Charlene was the kind of girl you might see on a cereal box.”

OK SO YOU KNOW HOW I SAID AND WE ALL KNOW THAT THE CONTINUITY ERRORS IN THIS SERIES ARE RAMPANT

WHAT’S CRAZY IS THERE ARE A LOT OF HINTS IN BOOK 1 ABOUT MUCH LATER EVENTS---also leading me to say that I don’t believe this book was actually meant to be a standalone

When Wayne is first telling them the story of the Stonecutter’s Quill, he says “I’ve been waiting a long time to tell you that story”, hinting that he knew it would be coming since he met them in 1955

Also, when Finn asks Maleficent if she is the leader of the Overtakers, she says “I am but a humble servant to she who lives within,”- a possible hint at Tia Dalma

Seriously guys  I am AMAZED

Back to plot details and stuff

WHEN PHILBY, FINN AND CHARLENE CROSS OVER THE FIRST TIME WAYNE BUYS THEM ICECREAM THAT’S SO ADORABLE WHAT THE HELL

Also when Wayne was explaining the Overtakers to them, and he said that they used a hurricane like a charging battery, Finn says its crazy and Philby says “no its not” and THAT’S MY BOI

Charlene didn’t want to do it at first. Willa was kinda reluctant but Charlene was completely against it

They were basically blackmailed into it which I forget every time

When he was 7 Finn walked across a restaurant to ask a smoker to put out their cigarette my precious

“Donnie” is not a nickname, but Maybeck’s stage name

Willa likes swimming!

Amanda is a vegetarian

Everything about chapter 12 is gold please go read it if you wanna have feelings about the beginning of the keepers

Wayne.Wears. Mickey.and. Minnie. Slippers

Finn has a kitty!

Also in that scene Amanda comes over Finn’s house for dinner(which I forgot) to be on VMK with them and then Willa and Philby’s characters appear in Finn’s VMK room at the same time so do with that what you like

I also always forget that Finn and Jez are flirting when they first meet and that’s just so incredibly weird to think about now FINN THAT IS YOUR FUTURE SISTER IN LAW

Willa and Philby work individually together a lot and I love it

Finn’s Dad is in this book a lot more than I thought he was and he kinda sucks just as much as he did in the Syndrome

And his name is Donald by the way

Also Willa and Finn’s friendship is SUPER present in this book

Like she holds his hand in the teepee when she gets scared of Maleficent my precious sibling friends

Charlene is good at Scrabble

“ ‘MEN’ Charlene said. ‘Leave that to you!’ Willa quipped.” IM DEAD

Their Halloween costumes are the cutest things I’ve ever seen and I’ll let you see that for yourself but sneak peek Maybeck was Nelson Mandela

“ ‘This can be dangerous Amanda. You need to know that before you volunteer’(Finn was speaking here) Amanda’s nostrils flared. She looked angry. ‘I can take care of myself,’ Willa and Charlene grinned.”

So that’s all I got for Disney After Dark! Rereading this book was so much fun, and I gobbled it up i like 2 days, because these books have the power to suck me right in every single time. I’ll be back in a little while to recount my findings on Disney At Dawn. See you then Keepers!

new things we learned in the Shell Game rewrite

•philby’s best with math and sciences whereas willa has won awards for reading and spelling

•wayne calls willa isabella

•finn seems to think this is the first time he’s ever heard someone call her that?? like it kinda seems like he didn’t know that was her full name

•wayne thinks willa has always been the smart one

•finn’s grandfather often smelled of alcohol

•finn and willa both go to edgewater high together now, apparently

•jelly likes watching Jeopardy!

•finn forgets that his little sister lives with them half the time and describes her as a ghost

•all the keepers have signed NDAs about the going ons in the parks

•the dhi’s all have a publicist named jen levine

•finn considers his mom to be more techie than philly

•willa uses the alias sarah sandler on the Dream; maybeck uses randy coleman

•willa can covert celsius to fahrenheit in her head

•willa’s mom bakes a lot

•willa prefers being called brainiac to nerd

•maybeck thinks willa and philly are perfect for each other as they’re both nerds

•social situations make maybeck uncomfortable and he uses humor as a deflection

•maybeck considered jelly to be his best friend

•philby has trouble believing that he could be wrong

•charlene is impulsive when it comes to putting herself in danger

•side note but it seems like storey and mattie have just merged into the same character? still named storey but she’s got the red tips and has was in the barracks with jess and amanda and has mattie’s powers. idk what’s up with that

•storey thinks amanda is an uncommon name, apparently

•storey is 18

•willa, while usually quiet, talks incessantly when nervous

•willa considers herself good at screaming

•finn, when feeling particularly strong of wills, thinks that maybeck must feel like this all the time

once again this was very different from the original publication. philby isn’t an asshole in this, which is nice except he’s hardly in it. the cliffhanger at the end is gone as well. there’s really no hints to charlene/maybeck or willa/philby, and even the finn/amanda stuff is severely toned down. there’s no kiss between charlene and finn and most every act of storey flirting with finn or philby is gone. there’s no struggle for power between finn and philby. it’s not even implied that wayne has contacted philby.
