#will squadron 42 launch in 2024?

youtube
Twelve years ago I was in a totally different life. I had just finished all of my training and was just settling into my new career and I had a long way to go before I could spend hours on a video game. I knew I had a child on the way and I wasn’t going to be putting any money into a Kickstarter (and this was long before we’d have a series of failures in crowdfunded massive games). That doesn’t mean I wasn’t excited for Star Citizen. As an Eve Online player, when Star Citizen was presented to me by fellow Eve Players as the “next Eve Online” I was excited. Looking at the Star Citizen kickstarter it was a game that could take everything we loved about Eve and make it better.
Now, 12 years later, we look back at Star Citizen and we wonder how were we ever taken in so completely. RSI and CIG have made a literal fortune on crowdfunding a game that always seems to be almost ready, but can never quite reach the finish line. At over $671,000,000 raised from over 5.1M backers, there doesn’t seem to be any financial rush to button up either Squadron 42 or Star Citizen and bring it to launch.
Now yes, last October CIG announced that Squadron 42 was “feature complete” and entering the “polish phase” however that didn’t bring with it anything that looked like a release date. Squadron 42 was supposed to launch in 2015, and in 2016 a production schedule was made public, and now 7 years later the game is almost ready. Meanwhile the main game Star Citizen continues to suffer from sprawl (aka scope creep) and the focus now is to bring it to a 1.0 Release Product including difficult decisions on the part of new Senior Game Director Rich Tyrer deciding “all the features and content we need, and just as crucially, the ones that will come post release.” From that, it sounds like the 1.0 feature complete product will be a core viable product, but will not have all the bells and whistles that have been delaying the game for 9 years past its originally intended delivery date.
The question would be why should CIG and RSI worry about shipping a product when they have raised $671,000,000 and they often raise on average more than one million dollars a day. While not trying to be an alarmist some of the things that are said from RSI are worrisome. They lost a key staff member Todd Papy the former live game director, because he did not want to relocate from California to Texas or England. Papy was not the only individual to leave, they also lost a Lead Producer, An Assistant Design Director, A Lead Designer, a QA lead, a Senior AQ analysis, and another producer.
Also worrisome is the fact RSI/CIG seems to believe they are on the cutting edge of technology with their celebrating bringing 350 players into one shard, and having a seamless universe, when CCP and Eve Online have been able to handle 1k plus players in a system for 22 years. Yes, I know that the more people in a system in Eve, when you start to exceed the 2k threshold Time Dilation (Ti-Di) kicks in but still, it seems Star Citizen is celebrating 350 in one shard and they find this noteworthy enough to mention, but Lower Decks in Limsa Lominsa FFXIV will have more than 350 people on a busy weekend.
So the question is with the viewer, do you believe RSI/CIG will be able to bring Star Citizen to a 1.0 release build? Or do you believe they will just keep crowdfunding as long as money rolls in. Let me know.

Dassault Aviation receives request for 42 Rafale fighters for the French Air Force
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 12/01/2024 - 18:26in Military
At the end of December 2023, the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) granted Dassault Aviation an order for 42 Rafale combat aircraft, known as "lot 5", for the French Air and Space Force.
"On behalf of Dassault Aviation and the 400 companies involved in the Rafale program, I would like to thank the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the DGA and the French Air and Space Force for their renewed confidence. We are ready and determined to use our skills as a main contractor and integrator of complex systems to serve the sovereignty of our nation. This military industrial sovereignty is an exception in Europe. It guarantees the superiority of our combat aviation. It is also an asset for diplomatic influence and an economic force in the export trade," says Éric Trappier, President and CEO of Dassault Aviation.
Rafale is a technical, operational and commercial success that continues to position France on a world-class level in combat aircraft.
Rafale was designed to evolve by successive patterns in order to adapt the latest technologies to the user's needs. Standard 4, especially focusing on connectivity, is under development. Standard 5, which is currently preparing for launch, will bring new capabilities in collaborative combat.
France has ordered 234 so far through orders in 1993, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2023.
Rafale was also sold outside France to the United Arab Emirates (80), Egypt (55), Indonesia (42), Qatar (36), India (36) and Greece (12). Croatia acquired twelve oldest Rafales from the French Air Force.
The order book, in addition to the new "lot 5" contract, guarantees production activity for the next ten years.

State Ship Series: USS IDAHO
Tumblr media
There have been two ships commissioned named after the state of Idaho in the US Navy. A third is under construction. The state was admitted into the United States on July 3, 1890.
Tumblr media
USS IDAHO (BB-24), Mississippi Class, Predreadnought Battleship, in commission from 1908 to 1914.
Laid down: May 12, 1904
Launched: December 9, 1905
Commissioned: April 1, 1908
Decommissioned: 1914
Date: Sold to Greece and commissioned into the Hellenic Navy
Her design was found to be deficient due to her small size and had poor sea keeping qualities in the Atlantic Ocean. She was sold to the Hellenic Navy in 1914, who renamed her Lemnos. After the sale and transfer, her crew was reassigned to be part of the first crew of USS TEXAS (BB-35).
Tumblr media
The Greek Navy found Lemnos' design performed better in the relative calm waters of the Meditation Sea. She fought in WWI, Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War and the Greco-Turkish War. Her sister ship, Kilkis (ex-USS MISSISSIPPI (BB-23)) and her served until 1932, when they become barrack ships.
Tumblr media
When the Nazis invaded Greece, the Luftwaffe bombed the two in Salamis Naval Base and sank in the shallow waters. They were raised and scrapped after the war.
Tumblr media
USS IDAHO (SP-545), motorboat, in commission from 1917 to 1919.
Laid down: unknown
Launched: unknown
Acquired: June 1917
Commissioned: July 12, 1917
Decommissioned: 1919
Date: Returned to her owner November 30, 1918
She was one of the numerous civilian vessels acquired by the Navy to the patrol coastal waters for U-boats during World War I.
Tumblr media
USS IDAHO (BB-42), New Mexico Class, Dreadnought Battleship.
Laid down: January 20, 1915
Launched: June 30, 1917
Commissioned: March 24, 1919
Decommissioned: July 3, 1946
Fate: Scrapped
Built with the funds from the sell of MISSISSIPPI (BB-23) and IDAHO (BB-24).
Tumblr media
Rebuilt in the mid 1930's, she and her sister ships were the most modernized of the non-tready battleships the US Navy in commission when WWII began. Consequently, they received the least amount of refits during the war. She was scrapped in 1947.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
USS IDAHO (SSN-799), Virginia Class Block IV, under construction.
Laid down: August 24, 2020
Launched: Spring 2024
Commission: Spring 2025
One ship was named for the territory of Idaho.
Tumblr media
USS IDAHO (1864), wooden steam sloop, converted to a full-rigged sailing ship.
Laid down: unknown
Launched: October 8, 1864
Acquired: 1966
Commissioned: April 2, 1866
Recommissioned: October 3, 1867
Decommissioned: December 31, 1873
Fate: Sold to the East Indies Trading Company in 1874.
"Completed in May 1866, she ran her sea trials the following August, making just over eight knots (15 km/h; 9.2 mph). Her boilers and engines, ordered as a result of political influence, failed totally to achieve her 15-knot (28 km/h; 17 mph) contract speed. The U.S. Congress, however, stepped in and ordered its purchase. The ship was then modified with sail and became one of the fastest ships in the U.S. Navy."
In 1868, during her trip from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Nagasaki, Japan, she made 18 knots under sail. Making her one of the fastest ships of her era. IDAHO remained in Nagasaki for 15 months as a store and hospital ship for the Asiatic Squadron. On September 20, 1869, she started her voyage back to the United States when she was hit by a typhoon one day out. Her masts were ripped off and she limped back to Japan. Little more than a hunk, she remained there until she was decommissioned and sold to the East Indies Trading Company.

Thailand may postpone F-35 acquisition plans due to budget constraints
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 07/23/2022 - 7:42 PM in Military
Thailand should postpone the agreement to acquire F-35 jets with opposition to the government asking for reallocation of funds to other more important causes.
The Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, insisted on remaining faithful to his government's decision to buy three F-35s. General Prayut, who is also Minister of Defense, insisted that the government buy submarines and F-35 fighters during the censorship debate against the government on Friday.
The deputy leader of Maha Sarakham's party, Congressman Yuttapong Charasathien criticized the prime minister's plan. He said that the country's public debt has increased to more than 60% of GDP and needs funds for development initiatives and financial relief. He added that the process of acquiring the jets of the Royal Air Force of Thailand can take almost two years, since the request must be examined by American legislators.
"He does not have the necessary leadership to lead the government," Yuttapong said. “When the submarine business gave a problem, he was afraid to cancel the contract, and this harms the country.”
General Prayut must order the Thai Air Force to withdraw its request for allocation of funds for the jets in the 2023 budget so that the money can be spent to help people in need, Yuttapong said.
The prime minister said that the request, which was submitted last year, should be completed early next year and Thailand will inform the U.S. of its intentions in February. This decision contrasts with Yuttapong's arguments, who demanded the withdrawal of the air force's request for allocation of resources to the jets in next year's budget stating that it could be useful elsewhere.
The prime minister also defended the submarine agreement signed with China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co. The project slowed down because the manufacturer could not supply MTU396 diesel engines manufactured in Germany by next month's deadline. General Prayut said that the government will not accept the delivery of the submarines unless they meet the requirements specified in the terms of reference of the agreement (ToR). He added that if the ToR cannot be complied with, interested parties will have to take responsibility as specified in the contract.
Yuttapong also attacked the Navy's plan to buy UAVs from Israel, saying it is an unnecessary expense. He said that without weapons, UAVs can only do reconnaissance missions.
General Prayut said that military spending schemes are based on defense needs, noting that they are approved by the House. The House has the final say in budget allocations and the military has to deal with Parliament's decision if budgets are cut or rejected, he said.
