Hi, I've been wondering about your headcanons about how the nations work. What is their role in the government, how does family work for them, do they have any powers? And stuff like that 😊
I'm guessing you're asking about my Public Nations AU and how Nations work within that universe? Get ready, this is gonna be a long post. I'll break it into parts for each section of your question :)
Note: I edited this recently so it reads more smoothly.
Role in the Government
As long as Nations have existed for, they've always been important advisers to their leaders. I think they mostly functioned as advisers, ambassadors, translators, etc. I imagine they have to remain apolitical when it comes to modern systems like political parties; they don't want to seem too supportive of any one political party, no matter what their personal opinions are. If they are gonna make a statement about something, they're expected to do it not as a Nation, but as an individual. That's partly why America's youtube channel uses his human name; it signifies that the channel is just a place for him to goof off, so nothing he says there is to be taken as a representation of the country. I think people still get those roles confused though. There’s gotta be tons of people who see Alfred stating his personal opinion and assume that that’s the government’s official statement as well. Plus I think lots of people just aren’t well versed in how the government works, so they probably misunderstand Alfred’s role as well.
I also think they've been put in the military ever since ancient times. After all, kings used to lead their militaries into battle, so I imagine their Nations would be right alongside them, both for the symbolism and because of how useful it would have been to have an immortal with lots of battle experience on their side. I can’t say that Nations always wanted to be on those battlefields, but they would often times get put there anyway.
Family
What counts as family is incredibly fluid and ever-changing for Nations. Nations aren't created through reproduction, so I don't think very clear-cut blood relations are truly possible. As a result, how Nations are related can vary and change. Why do America and Canada resemble each other so closely? I don’t think even the Nations themselves know. Sometimes Nations take this resemblance to imply familiar relations, sometimes they don’t. (I think this is more just my frustration with canon. Who is related to who makes no sense and has changed over time as Himaruya wills it. Why are England and America brothers instead of father and son? Why are America and Canada clearly twins when they didn't even belong to the same empires when they were born? I give up)
I also don't think they have the same standards for what is taboo and what isn't. Things can get waved away as "human ideas” which doesn't apply to them. Plus, Nations can't reproduce the way humans do after all, so I don't think they consider “incestuous” relationships to be nearly as scandalous. America and England might have a father-son relationship or a romantic one and I don't think they would have a problem going back and forth between the two. Not to mention the fact that after however many centuries, I assume practically all of them have slept with each other.
Of course, humans get uncomfortable with that fact, so that aspect of their relationships is usually kept private. Basically, Nations can have any kind of relationships with each other, but stick to only letting humans know about the ones that are socially acceptable.
Powers and Abilities
Nations draw life from their human populations, and as a result have a connection to those humans. Nations can tell if a human is theirs or not and identify them by name.
They can suffer from two different kinds of injuries: Direct and Indirect. Direct injuries are when their bodies are injured; they can heal from practically any direct injury, but the rate they heal depends on how well their country is doing. An injury incurred during a war may take multiple weeks to heal, while a random injury incurred during everyday life will heal much quicker.
Indirect injuries are what happens when their population is harmed or killed. Major tragic events can result in injuries suddenly appearing on their bodies. Some rare events can leave them with permanent scars (9/11, London Blitz, French Revolution, Atomic Bombs, etc). If their people are sick with a disease, they will show symptoms as well despite not actually being able to get sick themselves.
For either type of injury, if a limb in severed, it can be reattached, but will otherwise turn into dirt if left separate for too long. If the injury is direct, the limb will grow back. An indirect injury resulting in a missing limb will likely be permanent.
Whether or not they have super strength depends on their status as a world power. America only gained his strength in the 1880s when he became a major economic power, and even then, he wasn't as strong as he eventually became post-WWII. America currently has this superhuman strength, but during the height of the Cold War, Russia had it as well.
Nations can sense other Nations around them, and also when a foreign Nation enters their territory.
They cannot leave the Earth. Once they've been outside Earth's atmosphere for 72 hours, they start to become violently ill and will begin to decompose into dirt unless they return to the planet.
Okaaaaay, I think I've covered everything! Let me know if I answered all your questions, and if you have any others! I always love to talk Nation lore XDDDD

Me when I self-insert so hard i accidentally take a one-off drawing and make it a whole au
haha i am back on my nonsense...
Tumblr media
i guess the idea is basically. twin moons haha. diana is more like. the game version of moon but probably slightly different in some way idk i gotta work on them both...Luna is kinda just. slef insert beam go brrr but also kinda different i guess uh. different kinda strengths and weaknesses?
Diana is more "proper" and better versed in her iterator duties and the knowledge of the world around her. She's more outgoing and assertive and can even sometimes be a little bit sarcastic. She takes on a big sisterly role for the other iterators, checking in on them a lot. She is well-informed on politics and history and other topics that concern her duties, and she monitors the condition of the Regions around her. She tends to be more logical and rational, but that is not to say she is cold by any means. She is sort of the model of a "perfect" iterator, and she is praised as such. This gives her expectations to live up to, though, and she sometimes struggles under the pressure to live up to them.
Luna is less focused on her duties and more...spacey I guess? She's much more shy and reserved and is a bit more pessimistic and unconfident...but she enjoys creating things like drawing and singing and talking to the residents of their can(s) about their creations. She is less concerned about things like politics and history and more interested in looking at cute little creatures in the surrounding ecosystem, haha. She also has a bit of a mischievous side she lets show sometimes. She likes to make people laugh and maybe tease them a bit.
They're both very caring though, of course. They both share that aspect of Moon! They especially care about each other and enjoy spending time together...they also like to dote on their little brother FP. They are both highly regarded, if in somewhat different ways and for different reasons. Diana is revered for her academic and practical contributions, such as keeping the systems running smoothly. Luna is revered for her contributions to the culture and the arts in the cities atop her can. They serve important roles and are seen as inseparable.
Of course yknow theyre not perfect so they can be kinda envious of each other sometimes etc etc hehe...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I suppose my idea for their structures is connecting structures? They have a connecting chamber in the middle, and the combination of structures in general can be either connected or separated. Diana is technically the senior twin so she has the overall authority at the end of the day. They also still share some water with FP because they are still neighbors.
I am unsure what their chat acronyms should be...maybe copy the theme of moon's ingame one and do Big Sis Diana and Little Sis Luna? Though...then thatd be confusing talking to their little brother maybe haha. But having them use LTTMI and LTTMII does not seem...the most practical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it comes to ...yknow...I am unsure which direction I want to go in. Should I have them collapse together since it's less scary if they have each other?
or should I be evil and make one of them force their water onto the other so they can get help for the other twin...But then....they'd definitely be separated...and if one side collapses more than the other, I'm not sure how you'd get them back together. Much to think about!
I think it'd be cute to see them interact with monk and surv, though! the little scug siblings! just like them! and separated just like them if we go that route smiles diabolically
I do want them to be happy in the end of course! but yknow we can have a little suffering as a treat
I have much to flesh out...waahhhh the brainrot never ends I suppose

guess who's really late to the fusion trend. THIS GUY. in my defense, i really never planned on making one, but this combo popped into my head and i absolutely had to draw it. rambling copy pasted directly from discord under the cut
Connie Lay (Sammy & Constance fusion) (they/them)
i can only imagine that before they got hired they were working at a theatre? They were originally just helping out backstage, but over time started playing the piano for shows. i imagine they usually stuck to the pit or maybe even playing in the wings, but since their sister got sick someone needed to cover her part in a show that required onstage playing. they do (both because they want the show to go on and because they know they're gonna be promoted to musical director soon so if they didn't it'd look bad). something something, joey (or joey equivalent lol) goes to that show and decides he has to have them for the studio, offering them the position of musical director once he hears about their future promotion. Connie never actually wanted a career in music, it was something they enjoyed immensely, sure, but they were saving up to go to college in order to study chemistry. that dream is on hold as they work for jds
i dont have any of the rest of the theoretical cast decided which is a shame because i need to decide who they get to be a pair (do not separate) with (or even a trio lol)
but right so, working at jds goes as smoothly as you'd expect up until ink starts coming into play. they're still wildly annoyed about all the interruptions, as per usual (honestly this fusion is probably even more short fused than the two separately). except this time the ink catches their interest. their sanctuary is more of a mini laboratory, a place to clear their head from the troubles of work and calm down for a little science. or a nap.
the pipe incident still occurs, except this time Connie's actually a little stoked to be able to record the effects the ink is having on them. they get a little carried away, but in their research figure out the iron oxide solution and manage to keep their inkfection at bay for much much longer through it. of course, they're sort of reliant on it now, since it's still hard to ignore the ink's call.
i think whenever they do Succumb to the ink fully they would still be a weird, not quite a lost one, not quite a toon, hybrid, because of all the iron oxide that's leftover in their system. how sammy's prophet thing comes into play is basically just. you ever meet a scientist so obsessed with their research its almost reverent. the ink probably skews with their mind to the point where they see all of this as a good thing, that this research is worth sacrificing their life, their future, over. they could "worship" the ink itself, or maybe bendy is a figurehead for it to them? still thinking that over. or, they could worship the machine... its a toss up between worshipping the ink itself, bendy, or the machine.

Me vs FF14, part 3
I've now finally gotten every (free) class up to lvl 50 (not including Blue-Mage).
There's some interesting ones, and a few that just drive me insane.
Cut off, because geez this got long
Healers:
For dungeons, I've enjoyed White-Mage a lot, because it's relatively straight-forward.
You give the tank Regen, you AOE-heal when you see a bunch of people losing health, you don't stand in the enemy-attacks, you keep a DoT on the enemy, and then you just... press an attack-button and keep an eye on the tank's health. It's a good way to learn a dungeon (your role is "follow the tank, and stop them from dying" so you don't have to worry about getting lost), and honestly kind of fun. It gets more complicated in Raids or (Hard) Trials or what-not, because there are more people to keep track of. And since you do kind of have a responsibility (don't die), it can get really stressful in some situations. But mostly, being a WHM is pretty chill. (Even if you have to learn to be fondly amused at people running to their deaths, instead of angrily frustrated at having to resurrect them.)
Scholar is very similar to WHM, except you don't get "Regen". Instead, you have a fairy that does that role for you. So early-levels it's less infuriating to play, but later levels (when their less potent heals and lack of AOE-regen kicks in), it's easy to start getting a bit stressed-out about it (they also technically have more attack-buttons to press, and it freaks me out. That's just unnatural).
Astrologian is very similar to WHM, but with an added RNG-Buff mechanic that you're supposed to be using, which means that you have even more shit to do. So I feel like that one is only fun for masochists.
Tanks:
Compared to Healers, where it's an "easy way to learn the dungeon/fight", a Tank is the one where you kind of have to already know it.
Basically, as a Tank, you have to be the one running in first, drawing the aggro. Which means that you need to know where you're going, and which paths should be taken (and leading the party in that direction). So, if you end up in a dungeon/fight you've never been in, or one you don't remember? You end up feeling really foolish and out-of-your-depth. But when you know that shit? You look so fucking cool. Like, following after a Tank that knows what the hell they're doing? They just fucking leg it, and everything goes so fucking smoothly, and it's just... so cool. And then you can do it too.
Paladin was really boring to level, but it's so nice to be able to see a Boss' charging an attack and going "nah" and just triggering a defensive-skill to negate most of the damage.
Warrior was slightly less boring to level, but is honestly kind of... shit? Like, I keep running into moments as a Warrior where I'm so fucking close to dying. And as a Tank? That's really worrying? I mean sure, there's that "can't fucking die"-skill, but... it doesn't feel so good to have to trigger that just because you pulled a few too many mobs and you're worried the Healer isn't paying enough attention to your health.
Dark-Knight is... interesting? It's very damage-focused, but it does have a bit of damage-reduction (even one specifically against magic, which is a bit of an awkward distinction to keep in mind). I think it's probably the most fun outside of dungeons, and not quite as bad as Warrior in-dungeon.
DPS:
For the Main-Story Questline, I've mostly been using Monk.
It's... pretty comfortable? It's a DPS-class, so I don't have to feel like I'm constantly just out-lasting the enemy. It's a melee-class, so it's relatively non-squishy. And it has an easy-to-understand but relatively complicated mini-game of an attack-rotation, so you won't get horribly bored with it. It's squishy enough that I've gotten killed a few times, but it's mostly been alright. And again, the ability to have the combat-rotation feel like you're doing something is a life-saver in some of the MSQ-fights. Tried doing a Raid once as a Monk though, and trying to keep track of where I need to be standing and what enemy I ought to be attacking when and how and-... It wasn't for me.
Machinist has been pretty chill for speed-running dungeons, even if it feels like they've got too many buttons to press during boss-fights.
It's mainly for those times where the tank can just keep running forever, with an ever-increasing amount of mobs following behind them. With the instant-AOE with decent range, it feels like most enemies kind of disappear from that mob-train pretty quickly, and it's a nice feeling. I can only assume that Bard (or maybe even Dragoon) could be similar if I could just figure out how to play it. (They're at level 50, but I didn't say I'd done anything with them.)
Ninjas give me a headache. I've mostly just been using them to run around grabbing mat-drops for crafting, and apparently they get even more complicated at higher levels? Ninja is... a lot.
Summoner gets automatically leveled alongside Scholar which is... neat? But it also means that I basically don't play it at all? And it's... a mix between "this is complicated" and "this is pathetically simple" so... not really sure what to think about that one (the level 60-set is sooo fucking pretty though).
But for Raids? Raids is where Black-Mage is actually really fun.
See, during Raids, there are so many people everywhere, that one DPSer more-or-less isn't going to matter that much. So the "pressure to perform" is pretty much nonexistent. And because you're a Black-Mage, and therefore constantly trapped in "can't move, I'm casting a spell"-situations, nobody is even going to be surprised when you get yourself killed. Targeting is also really forgiving, because you have a charge-time to doing damage, so there's no point in you targeting the low-health enemies. And also, a lot of your DPS is AOE anyway, so just throw some of that at the biggest guy and hope that you're helping. It's like the chillest fucking class to play during Raids, and I love it to bits. (Even if the wait-times kinda suck.) I will however note that leveling? Sucked (so many levels to unlock the fun mechanics). Speed-running through dungeons? Sucked (can't keep up with the running). Fighting outside of party-situations? Sucked (they're so fucking squishy).
So... all-in-all?
WHM is the nicest for dungeon-running (also, shortest queue) and very good for learning dungeons/fights.
BLM is the hands-down best for Raids (even if the queue-time is way too fucking long), but sucks at everything else.
Monk is fun for non-dungeon encounters.
Paladin can be really fun (you look so fucking competent and cool) if you know the fight/dungeon, but also kind of humiliating if you don't (they also usually have a pretty short queue).
PS. Also, as a WHM-main? The times I've seen some DPS stand in the middle of an attack that they should be dodging? A few? It happens to the best of us? I have no strong feelings on the matter? I keep Swiftcast ready for Resurrections for a reason, and up until that point? People getting hit just means that I have a reason to do something other than pressing my single attack-button, so I'm fine with it?
PPS. But to the one Tank who went back in to stand in front of the boss when they were using a constant flame-thrower attack? And got like half their health shaved off in a fucking instant? Fuck you specifically.

Thinking about ocs again
Anyway I'm thinking mostly on Igraine and Castello since I barely ever did flesh them out huh
Under the cut cause its long and im more rambling than anything
I'll probably draw a big thing later but! How they got to the village basically boils down to:
Miranda finds out umbrella is collapsing -> Miranda manages to break into a remote lab -> Miranda finds Igraine, Castello and Vanessa in cryogenic chambers -> Miranda steals them
Timelines a little finicky but after being stolen Igraine popped out first from cryo sleep because she had already been exposed to the t virus and could survive Mirandas diy awakening mechanism*.
One of the symptoms of t virus is increased aggression and I imagine being deemed enough of a failure to go into cryo sleep and seeing that as a major affront since she was still better than most of the others, Igraine was not happy when she woke up. There were also all those pesky revenge plans rattling around in her brain that made her harder to control than Miranda liked.
Miranda spent a good year putting Igraine to sleep, invading her mind, changing things around and cutting things out, waking her up and testing, then putting her back to sleep. Rinse and repeat until she had finally mitigated that little road bump and made Igraine more pliable. This dissonance between who she was and who she is now is also where her temper comes. There's a 50/50 chance she can get angry at any given time and if she does, it's explosive.
Igraine is still like a huge dick, just not to most of the Lords or Miranda. Miranda manages to align her personal philosophy into Igraines brain but there are still a few fucked up little features that she has to clean up over the years.
Castello has an easier time of it when they're woken up. Igraine knows how the cryo pods work and is generally willing to help Miranda out and having no moral compass aside from a strong feeling of familial loyalty, ensures that getting infected with the mold and the brainwashing thereafter runs as smoothly and painlessly (see: castello gets anaesthetic for the worst parts of the torture medical procedure) as possible
Ever since the mellowing out too, igraine gets more manipulative and can get away with it a lot more. There's also less pressure of competition between her and castello which suits them both quite nicely.

Abaddon chronicles: A Shadow's plight (interlude 1)
If someone asked Magi, " what's the worst thing to happen to Wasure", he'd say, "hmm maybe when they fell into the mouth of a giant monster made of paint" and the person asking the question will think Magi has lost a marble. "shitshitshitshtiSHIT" Magi was pacing back and forth where Abaddon was laying, the giant thing got up and for something big and fat looking it really hauled it self off before Magi could even process what just happened, he surmised Draw was in the area and probably summoned Abaddon and has since dismissed it, but finding Draw wasn't on his mind at the moment, the thing that was breaking the news to the rest of the guild. he knows they're gonna freak, in their own annoying, yet endearing, ways, Kengo would try and rush out to find Draw, which in it's self is a dumb idea, but Shiro would try and talk Kengo down from basically going on a suicide run, but they would get into a fight and get make it more likely for Kengo to run off, Ryota would try and help calm down Kengo but ultimately go with him to find Draw, oddly enough Draw says or does nothing bad to Ryota which is probably a strange outlier compared to everyone else, Toji would try to sneak off to find Draw, but unlike Kengo who would confront Draw directly, he'd try to find Draw while Abaddon is out in order to try and save Wasure, Toji won't admit it but everyone knows they (like everyone else, with the exception of Draw) is probably in love with Wasure. Magi sighs and glares at the ground as he stops where the guild safe house is, he already contacted the others to gather already, Magi really was going to have a headache after this trying to make sure this all goes smoothly "Wasure you owe me soooo much when you come back".

••Some wally hcs because yes. uhh WARNING VERY VERRYYY 🗣🗣🗣 self indulgent....🗣🗣🗣🗣••
• Wally 100% always carries a little hand tape recorder with himself that he rants or rambles into whenever he can since he gets easily ticked off by a lot of things. He can't help it.
• He's a little drama queen. But we love him for that.
• I also think that Wally definitely talks louder than he thinks he does. People always tell him to speak more quietly. And when people, that aren't even part of the convo, dare to laugh at something he told someone else, he will go like "ey, why are you eavesdropping." and then they're like "not our fault if you're this loud. We're basically forced to listen to you" HAHA.
• I think he has definitely some kind of Congenital insensitivity to pain OR he's absolutely the opposite and has Hyperalgesia.
• Hmm, strangely enough. Wally is capable of drawing really good. You probably would have assumed otherwise because of his chicken scratch handwriting.
• Wally is the king of bad jokes. I can see that. Very well. He thinks he's funny ofc.
• I know it's ... Said in one of the tapes that wally was a top student in his days (I DON'T BELIEVE IT THOUGH, I KNOW HES JUST PLAYING. I KNOW IT) THOUGH... In the tape he DID say that he especially knows "HIS potatoes" and I'm sure it refers to the stuff he likes to do or where he is an expert in. I feel like he's not smart in like a school kinda way. But more like. Smart in his way as in... ( I don't know how to describe it [it's funny because I'm in the same shoes]) he's smart in his subjects that he truly cares about. Things that are truly in HIS interest. He knows how to get his ways and how to do his stuff. It's just the other things he struggles with. (haha screams totally not me)
• I think he's very insecure of his laugh and smile. So instead of laughing he will try to smoothly play it off with something along the lines of "okay enough for today, I'm outta here" or "ah, I crack myself up" and go. For his smile he will just cover it up with his hands or hat. :(
• HE DEFINITELY SMOKES AND DRINKS BUT ESPECIALLY SMOKES!!!!!! I know that most of the fandom goes like". He's too pure for that" SCREW U!!! 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 THIS MAN FUCKS AND DRINKS A N D SMOKES TO SURVIVE SO BAD!!! 🗣🗣🗣🗣 THIS MAN WILL SMOKE ONE PACK A DAY. HE WILL. HE DOES.
• he has.. Absolutely.. Really messy room..  A dirtbag room. A really bad one.
