Demon Yuichiro AU (that I share and write for with @belovedmuichiro) in which Yuichiro is found by Kokushibo after the demon attack and turned into a demon himself. Muichiro is left to die, but survives.

SPOILERS USED TO EXPLAIN AU and also face closeups below the cut.

Kokushibo raises him as an apprentice, but Yuichiro is not strong enough (nor does he want) to become a stronger demon.

Yuichiro being next to useless and taking up space in Kokushibo’s life makes Muzan pissed that his favorite upper moon is playing house. Especially after Kokushibo comes to accept that Yuichiro is not cut out to be an apprentice and eventual successor. He’s just a kid. An angry, sad kid. One that Kokushibo is beginning to project a different sort of vision on.

In general, the nature of Yuichiro’s existence challenges Kokushibo’s remaining humanity, accelerating his more human motivations and realizations from his death in mainline canon (especially as he realizes his presence in Yuichiro’s life is making him miserable). Expanding on Kokushibo’s more human side via this AU, he contends with his past as well as his present after he makes a promise to Yuichiro that he will protect him from any danger. Be it human, demon, or That Man.

That Man will certainly be a force to contend with when Yuichiro learns his own twin brother survived the demon attack, leading him to abandon his post with Kokushibo to try and be there for the brother he failed to protect in the first place.

saw someone describe gentan as enemies to lovers and I just wanna make it clear that it's one-sided enemies to lovers, which is infinitely funnier. like not for one second did tanjirou ever consider genya his enemy, while genya hated on tanjirou from a distance for like a hundred chapters until they spent like (1) life or death experience together and he fell in love. Unrequited hatred to mutual attraction.
