what your reasons for shipping lily x ricky? i don’t know if i want to ship them or not

It’s not based on logic at all (I mean, she acted like she cared about him right before and right after trying to ruin his play - literal manipulation to let his guard down -, not to mention all the bad things she did to his friends), so it’s totally subjective and much more what it still might be than what it is now. I’ve always shipped Ricky and Nini and loved the storyline of him trying to win her back; I think they were amazingly developed on season 1 and I never thought of shipping either of them with another person.

However, season 2 happened. I knew there would be angst, because that’s how you keep a romantic storyline interesting and appealing - so you can feel the need to see how things will work out for the couple to be together in the end -, but I think it was a huge mistake to break them up so soon and in the way that it was done. It really caught me off guard. When I watched episode 8, I was happy when they met at the treehouse because I thought they were going to talk things through, and I think that’s how they should’ve adressed all their problems (just like Seblos and Redlyn), especially because Ricky and Nini had a whole season focused on getting back together. They broke up in a way that, for me, the overall narrative won’t make sense for them to come back anymore (although I am curious about how would that happen). Since I decided to consider Rini officially ruined, I gave up on them (I think that is where I differ from most Rini warriors) and focused completely on Portwell.

When we saw Lily flirting with Ricky on the season 2 trailer, in my view she was just gonna be a plot device - still might be, depending on how their dynamic + Nini's reaction will look like next season - and the only thing I felt was slight annoyance, not shipping them at all until episode 11's promo with the Something There clip, which intrigued me. Then, there's the fact that enemies to lovers is my favorite romance trope. Since I don't care that much if Rini is endgame anymore, it feels exciting to think about the way Ricky was super annoyed at her at first for "betraying" East High, stealing their show and just being mean; then confused because of that weird facetime; then standing on the fine line between reconsidering and not reconsidering his thoughts on her; then looking at her in the crowd during the whole play; then stepping back again and, in the end, finally deciding to give her a chance (even though we all know she had just stolen the harness 😂 by the way, I spent the whole episode 11 thriving because of them and was super disappointed to know she did that. I felt manipulated myself). It just feels very new and full of possibilities, as I said before, “much more what it still might be than what it is now”. I didn’t think they’d really invest on this Lily-Ricky thing but after they did I just found myself interested instead of angry. I just want to see him with somebody other than Nini at this point. We haven’t seen that yet (for real). Also, I’ve never hated Lily too much. But I don’t even know what I want with them, so I’m taking anything. Whatever. I can’t lose any more than what I have already lost because of Rini lmao. 

Both Rinis and Rinas reject Licky, but I think Rinas may be a little more open to it because they have a hint of enemies to lovers in their story, which is the opposite from Rini. Actually, I think that if Portwell hadn’t gained my heart and if Gina had emerged as Ricky’s alternative love interest after Rini being destroyed I could’ve shipped them as well. I just really am a sucker for this trope.

Long story short: I just feel like I can’t wait to see what is their dynamic going to look like and how his friends are going to react because it’s so wrong. 😂
