I knew my family were really boring but my aunt said something the other day that just sort of. Totally baffled me. Next level boring. Sort of makes me understand why they judge me so so harshly. I’m pretty sure to them having an interest in anything is considered weird. And weird is dangerous

#will clarify my grandparents on that side r super catholic #but no one else is #so it’s just rly judgey societal perspective #basically I told her my boss opened a new coffee shop on her high street and she should try it #cos like it’s specialty coffee it’s rly good the foods good the vibe is good. it’s real nice for locals #and she’s always actively shamed me for not being a secretary like her #(emails and desk work etc is my doom job I’ve done it I wanted to kms)#so I thought maybe if she could see it’s a good company with a good mission and skills etc. maybe it would legitamise me #anyway she was like no I don’t see the point of coffee shops when you can have it at home #which to an extent is valid but she doesn’t even have filter or pour over or a cafeteria and certainly doesn’t have a coffee machine #she has rly bad instant coffee and thinks that is good coffee #(tasted like absolute dirt it was awful)#but there’s the solitary time of going to coffee shops alone that’s valuable there’s meeting your friends that’s valuable #but I also overheard at dinner they made a friend on holiday who happens to be local and works near my aunt too #and has been asking her if she wants to meet up n stuff #and everyone agreed that that was rly weird??#they were like wow what’s wrong with people that because you’re friends on holiday they think you want to be best friends with them #like ??????? what’s wrong with you that you don’t make friends??????#Ik of like. 3 friends my aunt has and she slags them all off #they’re all from like 30/40 years ago as well #my family are the types of people where their homes are totally greige.#the only music they listen to is whatever happens to be on the radio #but otherwise don’t care for it #and they might watch whatever film is on tv but otherwise don’t care for it #the only thing ik they like is the men go fish zing and the women go for spa days and afternoon teas #which is the most fun someone can have apparently #basically they think I’m a complete freak for having lots of different friends and not just 3 from school and if they’re men v bad #they think it’s scandalous if wanna go to gigs or watch weird films or see strange exhibitions or wear clothes that aren’t M&S #existing is so hard in this family because everything is strange and wrong to them even the most normal things I’m baffled. like so shocked
