Hello, hello! We haven't had a hardcore update here in quite some time, have we? Well, if you remember back during "Women of Xal's" production, it's very much because we were doing a lot in the background and didn't have the energy to provide giant update posts every few weeks. Well, the stuff in the background will be bubbling up to the surface soon, and it's time to share what we've been doing, and how you can help make sure we keep creating content for those who love our obscure narrative beats. The People We Are: Episode 1

"The People We Are" is a series of (very) short conversations that chiefly focuses on the very human interactions normal, non-magical people have in reality. Each of these conversations will feel extremely specific and not exactly universal messages or something that can apply to a general audience. But, perhaps, just like with Clanice from our last visual novel, the very personal moments in this story will still make one person feel seen. The Patreon's Trajectory

So this is an Indie studio Patreon. What are the goals? What does the cash fund? How often can you expect to see updates? How on Earth are we juggling all of this on a shoestring budget and full time jobs? Why that last question was a punch in the heart for being too real a thing to ask me, but let's dig in!

The goal is to allow the creatives in PlotTwist Studios create content full time. Right now the head works full time at Walmart Automotive, and that is absolute murder on focusing on getting all this content out faster. (Although it is doing the heavy lifting in funding what I can.)

Funds that go into Patreon will be used to hire artists and programmers on a monthly basis to push our projects forward.

Updates will be based on how many supporters we have and how much we make a month, as you all directly drive the creation of this content.

I can commission people because I'm using my own commission money, my job money, and paying for assets one baby step at a time. No, this is not sustainable on my income, and

hey!! I'm going to be taking a (hopefully) short hiatus from posting fic. I've been sick a lot lately and I think all these deadlines I'm setting for myself aren't helping! I really need to fix my life up before I can focus on making things postable :(

I'll still be writing occasionally during the hiatus! I'll probably post snippets and stuff, but it might be a couple weeks before I feel ok enough to come back and post full fics again. super sorry about this, and no current projects are being abandoned!!

and, as many other people are, I will be going back to school at the end of the month. I also have 2 jobs. so....... I will do my best to have time to write and create, but it'll be difficult to find a lot of time. just something I want to note!

please I have so many ideas on how to ruin this boy's life. many of them are half-baked. I'd like to try and finish some of them up, or at least flesh them out a bit more! hopefully, I'll have time for that soon. if I had to guess, I'd say a new oneshot will likely come out toward the end of august :3

An Update

Time for my monthly post explaining why I'm not putting out content for my ao3! Warning, it is long and a bit vulnerable. Trigger warnings for depression, anxiety, chronic pain, intrusive thoughts, and some self-destructive ideation.

Mainly it's college. College has been kicking my ass this spring semester. It feels as though with each semester that passes, I get less and less time to work on things. Even now, my spring break week, I have to read three different essays for a timed essay coming up next week. So, in general, it feels like I don't really have a break to myself and to do things for me most of the time.

For the part, I've just been depressed. I don't share this a lot but I have been dealing with chronic pain since I was 16 that just this past summer has gotten worse. And of course, doctors don't know what it is! Hooray!/s. It's taken a lot of energy out of me and has made me reflect on how much I seemed to have taken for granted when I was "healthy", and it leads me to feel so down about how nowadays, it feels like I can hardly do anything or go anywhere without worrying about being sick or getting fatigued easily.

It's been draining me dry and I can hardly bring myself to do my work, or even write this post. I lay awake wondering what's wrong with me and being paralyzed by the fear of it being something really serious, maybe even deadly (though that still has not been confirmed). It's hard to take care of myself or even think semi-positively about myself. There was a good chunk of this month where I could barely sit and have proper conversations with people because I'm either too focused on the pain or too in my own head, thinking about how these people must hate me when that probably isn't the case at all. It made it difficult for me to want to go to school and sometimes to even try and find help or help myself.

And overall, it's been hard to motivate myself. I have ideas that I want to write and fics I want to finish, but with a combination of said depression, lack of motivation, lack of self-confidence, and probably genuine laziness, I haven't written anything that doesn't feel rushed or right to me. I scrutinize everything I write, both past and present. Just an hour or two ago, I was reading through an old fic I wrote (Suzume's 2nd debut fic) and noticed a redundant sentence, and the overall vibe/voice for the fic and damn near went into a spiral about how bad it was and how much I dislike it now, which has made it difficult to see any potential in myself as both a writer and a valuable person.

I am getting help now, feeling a tad better but still struggling with a lot that is really personal and I don't feel like getting into all of that right now. I am going to try and work on a fic again, just because I haven't written anything proper in a while and I genuinely do miss it! But, I might take the last three days of my break off from everything. Maybe try and let myself be lazy so maybe I can recuperate. I bought some stuff like planters and seeds so I can get a garden going. Maybe it'll be my new hobby! I did say I was going to try and go outside more. Maybe this'll be good for me.

Hoping to at least do what I did last year and post some things to this blog specifically and see if anyone is interested in what I have going - both fanfiction and original work alike.

Thanks to everyone for sticking with me through these trying times. Maybe one day this year, we'll see some sort of progress or betterment in the world. That's the hope at least.

projects worked on: Andromeda Rogue mostly but i've been swatting at Shiny New Ideas left and right with a tennis racket. also i thought about Gemini Heist really really hard and i think that counts for something

proudest accomplishment: AR1 draft 2 is done!!!!!!

books read: After Atlas by Emma Newman; Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson; Exit Strategy (Murderbot Diaries #4) by Martha Wells. all excellent reads. (sidenote two out of three of these books involve murder investigations and the third has murder in the title. i'm sensing a theme in my reading.)

i am still terrible at being consistent at writeblr-ing. i guess this is just my life now.

i'm debating using camp nano to actually hunker my ass down and get some writing done on gemini heist, but between work and apartment hunting and a possible move by the end of the month i don't know how feasible that's gonna be :') we'll see.

and no i'm not glossing over the fact that i have a finished second draft. i'm just saving my screaming for below the cut.

so this draft now sits at 85.7K, which is about 11.8K added from the first, and although it is still faaar from perfect it is definitely... better than the draft i finished 2 years ago. it's insane how much my writing has improved, between all the reading i've been doing and first drafting the two sequels of the trilogy.

that being said there still are a lot of things i know need to be fixed, but i'm at the point where if i try to fix them on my own i'll be stuck on them forever.

enter the betas!!! i'm planning on doing an ~official~ beta call next week but honestly if you're interested in beta-ing this book feel free to hmu right away!! ultimately i want to self-pub this thing (which is quite overwhelming to think about hhhhh) but one thing at a time :')

☆ FEATURED EXCERPT.

i really couldn't decide what snippet to post so this was admittedly chosen a bit at random lmao. this is from when the gang is approaching their destination for their expedition.

On the external display, Mohani loomed ahead, growing larger every second. The planet was almost entirely a deep blue, except for some white spots at its poles. It reminded Finneas of his final glimpse of Ghillairde when he was leaving it behind for the last time. For a disorienting second, it almost felt like he was returning to his birth planet. But soon, the ship was close enough to see the sandy outline of the continents. The blue wasn’t all ocean. Some of it was trees. He directed the ship towards the landing coordinates just as Petra arrived in the bridge, clutching several barf bags. “Good to see you’ve come prepared, Lacroye,” he commented. “You’re already looking green, and we haven’t even entered the atmosphere yet.” She grumbled something unintelligible in response as she took her place in the copilot’s chair.

one of my editing notes for draft 2 was to make Petra's starsickness worse😆
