Seeing as it’s Disability Pride Month and I’ve been having a pretty rough time lately I thought I would share some pictures of what my life is like to see if I can feel less ashamed. I tend to hide my disorder because I’m worried people will judge me, but I wanna try sharing for a while.

My brain doesn’t always process feelings in a safe way. The Logical part of my brain and the Emotional part of my brain don’t communicate very well and so I’m more likely to jump to the worst case scenario (and in every scenario I believe everything is my fault) and make an impulsive dangerous decision based on that.

So, I have to live with constant distractions and safe things to keep me safe and calm me down when the bad thoughts start, here’s what some of that looks like.

This is my floor time blanket. I’m safer on the floor, it’s easier for me to lie down and wrap myself in a safety burrito if I need to and it’s harder for me to get up and do something dangerous.

These are my distraction games. We discovered it helps me to get lost in a large immersive open world games (Skyrim survival mode is the most helpful, but anything Star Wars is also great)

Speaking of Star Wars, luckily something about the world of Star Wars creates a pleasant feeling in my brain, so when in need I can always hang out with my best friends.

These are what we call “safety snacks”. If I start to spiral then a sharp flavour can sometimes shock me out of it. This is anything sour, vinegary or spicy.

(It’s gonna get a little bit dark now and I’m gonna mention suicide)

This is the view I have of the city. I love living here and it helps sometimes to rest my head on the glass and remember all the things I still have to experience before I die. Sadly, the door is always locked and I’m not allowed out there unsupervised for obvious reasons.

I also have a view of the river, the bridges, and that little gap in the fence I know a person can fit through, which as you can imagine can be a bit of a problem. This is a bowl of cold water I always have on hand. In extreme situations I need to hold my head under freezing cold water for at least 30 seconds with no breaks. Suicide attempts are usually brought on by extreme adrenaline rush that triggers my fight or flight. If I simulate drowning it can trick my body into thinking we have acted on this and bring my adrenaline down.

I don’t really tell people about this because when I do the reaction is very “Oh you just get to play video games and eat snacks all day, must be nice 🙄”. And yes, under some circumstances that is nice, but a lot of the time I am doing this under very very unpleasnt circumstances. I don’t live like this all the time, this is only when it’s a must.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy or clout, I just don’t think masking and hiding this part of me is very healthy and I thought maybe during Disability Pride people would be a little more open to this sort of stuff. I’m not really allowed to leave the apartment unsupervised and I don’t get much human interaction. It feels a bit like a prison at times and I’m tired of feeling so alone in all this. (Don’t feel sorry for me! It’ll just make it worse. Just tell me I’m a stinky a lil guy and drop a game recommendation or something)

i also just think i'm bitter re: current star wars because watching iwtv is a masterclass in how to make campy indulgent genre tv that still has compelling performances & amazing writing. but alas star wars can't be campy anymore b/c woke

OMGOSH!!! I remember having and making this story of Cal...where I involved my irl friend--who's barely around anymore...I got no friends... :(--and she was invited to this party, and I was invited along with her and Cal became a butler and a bodyguard for the both of us...he even acted like one??? Lol

He took us to and fro from the party...Purge Troopers invaded my friend's place...we all escaped together...and my friend ends up joining me and the Mantis crew! I only remember the title and I tilted it, "Cal the Gentleman"! It's a really fun story and I wish I hadn't deleted it...I would make it, but it seems so weird to me now...not sure why...it felt good to make it back then...

I also made this story of Cal where he had an evil twin brother who's an Inquisitor...of course got separated from birth and is now discovering that he has a twin brother...I created his name but I completely forgot it...I think it was Kevon, something like that....part of me wants to recreate it somehow but I wouldn't know where to begin!!!

If you would like to read those stories, PLEASE tell me and I may go ahead and do them! If I can just remember the plots between them more!

Bonus Day - Alternate Universe

Technically following starwarssapphicweek's day 7 prompt, I just really wanted to do some star wars mermaids for MerMay, even if sapphic week is over (and it's never the wrong time to post barrissoka)

I feel guilty that all my star wars projects are temporarily on semi-hiatus as apparently I can't focus on writing anything too ambitious right now because of Mortal Kombat 1 crashing my attention span. So I just wanted to say I remember about Jango & Vau, I have a great part of research done for Mandalorian culture theories, a whole list of stuff for Anakin/Vader and clones and even I’m ready mentally to finish Zoro & Law relationship meta, so I’m gonna come back to them once I became (theoretically) normal about MK again but you know how life goes. Bi-Han won this tournament round for my attention and as a current Champion he is basking in my unconditional love. So yep, I’m gonna spoil my childhood fav for a bit more, before star wars will battle its way to top again.

Mechanics and Flavor: Heliod

This is neither a glup shitto nor a star wars but it fits into the same general purview.

A thing I really like in MTG is when the mechanics of a card create or enhance the flavor. For example, the Heliod card from March of the Machine is part of a cycle that references famous Phyrexian cards from Magic's past. (Officially, it's been claimed to be a reference to Consecrated Sphinx, but that's bullshit and I will be ignoring it)

There is actually a different card from a past Mirrodin set that much more directly matches Heliod's mechanics, similar to the other cards in the cycle: Vedalken Orrery.

Not only does it have the exact same ability (modulo 19 years of templating updates), but the flavor connection is far more apparent. What does a Sphinx have to do with a sun god? Nothing. But an orrery, a mechanical model of the sun and the heavens? To the Phyrexians, what could be a more perfected version of the Therosian sun god than a literal machine sun?

The original vedalken orrery represented the suns of the Phyrexians' own plane of mirrodin, and now they have turned the sun of a new plane into that very same mechanical perfection.

so i've been thinking A Lot lately about robin's age of sail verse: how she is a lowly carpenter's daughter who befriends steve, a boy waaay above her station, how they hatch a plan to be fake betrothed and how she gets hurled into society as the fiancée of one of the formerly most eligible bachelors in town and gets to interact with plenty of extremely pretty ladies as a result
