#you can’t love anne’s ‘black humour’ then bemoan it’s consequences #💿🐴#& tbc i absolutely think that anne is a victim of much unfair and sexist #maligning on the part of historiography #and that much of these examples are either patently untrue OR exaggerated OR regarded from a perspective that #wilfully denies anne any sympathy or nuance #much the same as jane #but i mean .. that’s why jane is remembered as kind #bc we do not have this sort of evidence against her #really the tragedy is that jane is so undocumented that this is the result #she is denied personhood outside of being appropriated for dynastic propaganda #by other people #like… both women stand as testimony to the misogyny of historical writing
