Wild tree sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. Lyra (playing Hesty): I wonder... Could I try to take the eye off him?

M (playing WA): *eyes light up* God, yes. I was thinking about putting out his candle, but that's even better.

DM: You don't need to make a check to put out the candle, you can just snuff it.

M: I do that, then.

DM: BBEG snarls with displeasure.

Lyra: I make a grab for the eye.

DM: You miss, unfortunately.

M: I also want to grab for the eye.

DM: As he leans away from Hesty, you reach up and snatch it from his hands.

M: Yes! Now what?

Adam (playing Harriet): Throw it to me!

Hamish (playing Hunter): Oh my god, play keep-away with the BBEG.

M: Yes! I throw it to Harriet.

DM: He roars with anger.

Adam: I run to the side door and attempt to leave.

DM: As you run into the corridor, you come face to face with the two Faceless who Gregor locked out earlier, who have circled around the hall.

Adam: Oh, shit! I run back into the hall and use the front doors instead!

DM: Alright, you have left the hall with the main ritual item. That certainly puts a spanner in the BBEG's plans.

🇮🇹Oggi vi porto nel #Laos 🇱🇦 sugli altopiani di #Bolaven per degustare un #tè verde da alberi selvatici. Non siamo lontani dallo #Xishuangbanna e si riesce a percepire da un vago e leggero gusto simile al #maocha di un #pu’er #sheng. Un tè delicato e abbastanza raffinato. Forse troppo per i miei gusti! Chi mi conosce sa che amo i gusti intensi, selvatici è un po’ grossolani dei tè artigianali a foglia grande che rimangono però sempre i più autentici. Un po’ come le differenze tra un vino di una grande azienda è un vino del contadino. Tuttavia i tè laotiani come quelli dello #Yunnan hanno ancora dei gusti “veri” che ci riescono a trasportare in queste straordinarie e misteriose terre. 🇬🇧Today I take you to Laos 🇱🇦 in the Bolaven plateau to taste green #tea from #wildtrees. it’s an interesting juxtaposition, the way the last chapter closed and how this one opens. It’s easy to imagine it in cinematic editing terms: We cut away from the jailer’s previous object of desire (the bust of ninon) and open the netx shot with him strolling with Deborah. A vantage point scene folllows. like those in greek tragedy where the watchman scans his lord’s domains, allowing the playwright to expand the play’s horizons beyond what’s visible to the viewer. Here it works for Deborah to situate the fortress on a larger scope, and herself beyond the walls of the fortress, its dungeons and its uncultivated grounds and enlightment style gardens. Back in Cockermouth castle, we got another scene of this type, where Deborah’s golden gaze shot golden arrows mapping her surroundings with yearning for the spots where she had found pleasure in Patricks arms (hidden spots the lovers thought unknown to the lord and his henchmen). There she dominated her surroundings, here she is scanning and trying to learn where she is at. The place has to seem daunting, land seemingly inaccesible, unless there was a friendly ship....

The jailer refuses her no information, just like she is allowed to roam freely and reside in a mockery of comfort, the name of the fort and the islands are not denied to her once she asks. This is a kind-faced jail, and perhaps mistankenly, it is assumed by Cogolin that information is not power, and it would not bring her closer to freedom.

The shadow of Death follows all through the chapter. The guards of the fortress are invalids, war veterans out of an otto dix painting. They“wait for death”(indicating the waste imperialism produces, disposable lives, useless for violence become discarded and hidden from sight, they are in a way. prisoners themselves. The prisoners are probably physically stronger than their guards but it doesn’t matter. Even if all the prisoners did not love their prison and decided to uprise, what good would that do? Can they physically leave the place? It’s irrelevant, they are welcome to try and get rid of the guards even. The crown would just send a new batch of war veterans ad infinitum)

Deborah and Cogolin sit together in his enlightened garden (Candide’s garden of escapism and individualism comes to mind) and share a pommengranate, the fruit of resurrection* The ocasionally androgynous Cogolin comments how the islands have changed sex, hab¿ving been named after male saints before and being currently named after female ones. The jailer rambles about the history of the place, Richelieu, its previous spanish masters, but Deborah is unable to concentrate in his story, the surrounding, wildtrees and the sky and the ironic contrast between the beauty of uncultivated nature vs the uses mankind had given it, call her attention more. No matter how smiling, she remarks, the island responds to the desolation of her soul. Men are bloody, and erect prisons and fortresses in paradisiac islands, and time is ruthless and one empire succeeds another, leaving the previous one’s constructions in ruins.

The jailer is jokingly disturbed by her words, he is for the first time, overtly flirtatious towards her. He calls her his dove, Deborah accepts the nickname, but remarks men had made a bird of prey out of her.

*to the Greek. The myth of Side seems eloquent, a girl called Side (aka pommengranate) kills herself to avoid being raped by her father, her blood moistens her mothers grave from which a pommengranate tree springs. Will Deborah have to defend herself from advances of the jailer? We’ll see.

Home Fry Recipe I Literally Just Made Up

at least 3 medium potatoes (I used yellow)

3 tablespoons butter/margarine/ghee/oil (I used ghee b/c we had it in the house and there's less chance of it burning than with butter)

1 small onion diced/minced (I was going for minced, but I don't think I did it small enough)

1 clove garlic minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon of garlic and herb blend (Wildtree Herbs - what we had in the drawers; I was originally just looking for garlic powder, because it wasn't garlic-y enough for me lol)

saute the onion and garlic first (I did it on medium, but whatever floats your boat)

cook the potatoes ~10 min medium heat (stab it with a fork to know if it's done. Don't be like me and have to cook it more)

take off heat and add salt, pepper, and garlic herb blend

M (playing WA): I stab him in the ankle. I know D&D doesn't have targeted wounds, but I like to think it makes a difference.

DM: He fails his concentration check to continue the ritual.

M: Yes!

DM: He snarls. "Cease! You have no idea what you're interfering with!" He raises his hand and creates a blast of energy pushing everything around him back.

Lyra (playing Hesty): Everything? Does that include his allies?

DM: Yes... And amazingly, he only hits his allies.

Lyra: Amazing.

Adam (playing Harriet): I want to make a Diplomacy check. "You're right, we don't know what you're doing! So tell us!" Er, that's a 12.

DM: He laughs humourlessly.

Adam: I forgot I'm not playing Billie.

M: I'm surprised the BBEG doesn't want to monologue.

DM: Look, he's tempted, but he's not 12 Diplomacy tempted.

I have been eating so much soup with this polar vortex going on here that I wanted some veggies. I made a brussel sprout veggie hash this morning with Simply Potatoes by @crystalfarmscheese chopped bell peppers, and oven roasted brussels sprouts that I marinated with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and salt and pepper, and then roasted for 25 minutes at 425 degrees.
