Starting from the beloved meme and then Clint Barton arrives 15 minutes late with Starbucks... only this time he's closer to seven months late and it isn't just that Cap, Natasha and this new kid Sam blew up his entire work place waiting to greet him.  Clint Barton and his tire fire of a life finally decide to embrace the beauty of everything burning and the rebirth that can occur when you let it.  Follow multiple narrators through a ludicrous babyfic that hopes to make you squee and sigh with the best of them.

Chapter 46: Charles Bernard "Barney" Barton

"Pick a star," Barney runs his hand under his nose before gesturing to the sky, "it's so clear you can damn near see the whole galaxy out here. Pick one. We're gonna make a wish."

"I don't believe in wishes," Clint mutters, his thrift store sherpa lined jacket is half tucked into itself at the neck.

"Check you out," Barney says turning on him from his seat on the cold metal stair, "Get some of Jack's hooch in ya and you're a big man who don't believe in wishes and Christmas all the sudden."

Clint's mouth does that thing it does when he's feeling looked down on. Barney knows he wants to correct him, tell him 'it's Jacques' like that makes him any less of a snake oil salesman and Clint less of an idiot for following him around. But Clint thinks better of it. So he should. Barney can still take him even if it's getting a close-run thing.

Or knowing she’s not in the museum break room when she calls to tell him about the delivery of 25000 rubber duckies that look like the founding fathers. It could just be the resonance or the background noise. He’s always been good at picking up on that stuff but then she stops in Blockbuster one night not thinking to tell him she’d be late and he doesn’t call, he doesn’t drive around looking for her he just turns up at Blockbuster making her squeal and hit him across the shoulder as she calls him a stalker. But it’s Wichita and they are on the run so there’s like three places she would have been. It was nothing.

Max Evans could heal people, he could bring them back from the dead. His sister Isabel walked into dreams and passed on messages through your subconscious like passing notes in class. And Michael had been feverishly jealous and stubbornly pretending it didn’t matter since they’d walked back into his shitty life all sibling’d up and cared for.

He was just as much a fucked up hybrid alien, grandpa 1935 thing as they were… well maybe not the grandpa part but still even snakey traitor Tess got evil mindwarps and what had he got? He’d got good at blowing stuff up. Mostly rocks.

They were on their own now and every paper cut she got he wished he had Max’s mojo and every night she tossed and turned he wanted to sneak inside her dreams and make her feel safe and sometimes he wished he could make her see a crowded, smokey jazz club and watch her sing like she was meant to.

Tony is the one to perform the lullaby and Clint and Natasha relationship is echoed by Wanda and pietro something which our ever pragmatic widow thinks our stray collecting Barton is not thinking clearly about

… Clint hadn’t been given that out-of-nowhere wife and kids in “Ultron”

Clint and Natasha’s obvious romance would develop naturally over the movies 

Through that development, we’d actually learn a bit about how Clint made Nat switch sides, and what happened in Budapest 

And Natasha would get respectful character development with a consistent romance, instead of being ship-teased with a different Avenger in each movie

Because Clint would not be a dad, and would have a dynamic going on with Nat anyway, there would be no reason for the writers to make him Wanda’s mentor; so instead, that role would go to either Bruce or Tony, allowing for Wanda to get a real redemption arc, causing probably the majority of her hatedom not to exist 

He’d be sympathetic in Civil War, because he wouldn’t be abandoning a wife and kids to break the law for flimsy reasons; instead, he’d be a reckless single guy, who just saw SHIELD get outted as Hydra and was probably still suffering PTSD from Loki’s mind control; thus, his sympathetic points would outweight his bad ones (except maybe with that joke on Rhodey’s paralysis, but that OOC writing is another issue entirely…) 

Nat wouldn’t (necessarily) have to be th one to die for the Soul Stone, and if she did, her death would be trillions of times more impact (er, no pun intended)

let’s see number 7. Honestly I tried to come up with a better answer than this but it’s just the vibe of the thing. The first story was really just a response to “Clint Barton shows up 15 minutes late with Starbucks” insert Troy with the pizza meme that was out in the ether post his absence in Winter Soldier. I decided to try making myself write from Natasha’s perspective after the Clint heaviness in marketplace etc but in the Starbucks sequel I just wanted to imagine/ write down the Robert Downey jr voice in my head reacting to spy kid 3D. And then they all joined in. Clint’s voice is my most comfortable place to be Natasha, Cap, Maria, Jarvis the least but I think that’s because being that fucking competent seems heptapod level alien.

25: I wish people read unfinished business more… it was my first story in the marvel space and my second fanfic ever. And I still kinda like imagining it’s running in the background of the avengers… and it could have too if not for that pesky Joss Whedon. I also I’m proud of my Game of thrones fic. It was an attempt to self sooth and I think it turned out rather well all things considered.

26. I’m not sure I do wild rides I’m definitely not much of a plot writer. I tend to focus on small intimate character moments. Probably because I suck even more at the other stuff, possibly because being a speech pathologist I’m better at getting voices of characters ‘right’ than I am at making things happen. But I am proud at how I salvaged age of ultron for the rewriting in Market Place and how much I was able to reuse, reduce, recycle might be surprising to readers.

39. So my clinic shut down suddenly in September. If you are Australian I will just say this about it. The NDIS and in particular the Government have been making it harder and harder to work as a paediatric disability clinician and hell bent on telling our clients that it’s because we are rorting the system. I didn’t want my clients to loose their therapeutic alliance and a speechie that has known them most of their lives so I started my own sole trading. It’s long hours, crazy stress and I don’t even know if I will be able to afford the audit come 2025 but for now my kiddos are safe and getting therapy. All the govt has managed to do is privatise the old block grant system and lie about choice and control and that’s all I have to say about that. As a result I’ve got no real WIPs but I have this… you can see that I write dialogue first.

Starting from the beloved meme and then Clint Barton arrives 15 minutes late with Starbucks... only this time he's closer to seven months late and it isn't just that Cap, Natasha and this new kid Sam blew up his entire work place waiting to greet him.

Clint Barton and his tire fire of a life finally decide to embrace the beauty of everything burning and the rebirth that can occur when you let it.

3. Shame that I haven’t finished it, tiredness that work constantly takes priority and utter joy when I have a moment of inspiration to write something for it. I know the ship is a little over now, buried by the sins and excesses of the marvel cinematic universe but sometimes you just want to be back in 2012-2014 again. At least I do.

11. Truth, I’m not sure I really want to finish Starbucks. I’d have to find something else to write then and what if I don’t what if I never care that much again? I just want to add to it incrementally till late stage capitalism burns me out. I’d like to also finish a potter fic that was my first long fic but I have soured on TERF-Y source material. I still love Neville though. Underdogs and bullied children are my kryptonite.

16. I used to write in note books on trains back before I had to drive, I loved that. And then I took to writing on a laptop from bed because bed is my favourite place in the world. Lately I’ve been writing on my work iPhone in the notes app like I’m gen z (I am very proud that I am a xennial thanks) I write between things in dark places because I dislike the sun and I have no ability to schedule my time efficiently.

20. February 27 2012 apparently. Wow. That’s a long time ago and yet with everything that has happened since also 3 horrifying seconds since. My interlude into clintasha didn’t happen till the 29th of December, 2012… nope still disturbing.

30. Hmm I don’t know what I’m proud of anymore but I feel like this might be pretty accurate for how fucking scary it can be to actually fall in love with your best friend, the terror of connection and the possibility of loss all rolled up in a single dork.
