having a prey species theriotype that hasnt been deemed cute or desirable by humans (especially if they also happen to be a keystone species) really sucks sometimes because it's like "im in a really shifty mood rn, let me go look at some pictures or watch some documentaries about my theriotype to feel more in touch with it! :3" and then it's just
*theriotype being hunted*
*theriotype being mutilated by predators*
*theriotype being eaten alive*
*theriotype starving*
*theriotype carcasses*
*theriotype baby drowning*
*theriotype infected with disease*
*theriotype with half of face ripped off*

Hi! I just checked your carrd to make sure my last reblog made the correct assumption about your theriotype (it did lol but my memory has been wrong before), and I noticed you have goblins listed as a paratype, along with some -types I didn't recognize for other things.
It got me wondering--is it a paratype or something else if you're connected with something in a symbiotic manner? Like a wildebeest therian with oxpeckers or a cleaner wrasse with a shark? Or, specifically for my purposes, a warg with goblins?
Connections that exist due to symbiosis would also fall under the paratype definition :)
"A paratype can have any kind of connection to your preestablished ‘type. I use the bison ↔ bull example often because it’s an easy way to explain the concept, but other examples may include a lion therian whose paratype is gazelles, a reptile with a sun paratype, a rabbit with a hawk paratype, a robot with a glitch paratype, a mushroom with a tree paratype, a werewolf with a silver paratype, and I could go on. Even something like a lost love from another life or an entire universe could be categorized as a paratype if you wish to do so."
In my case, goblins (and bokoblins) are paratypes because of their similarities with gnolls. They're xp fodder :')

I would like to offer this resource for therians, an extensive list of all of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries that are available on soap2day, and a full list of what species* they each (notably, prominently) feature the natural behaviors of, separated by episode, and omitting species that were only shown dead, juvenile or being predated on. This took me a while (I have been working on it since Prehistoric Planet’s release) because I did in fact have to watch every single series in full in order to list all the species and the episodes are around 50 minutes long, but enjoy.
Long post ahead:
Most of these shows have closed captioning, which is why I’ve picked soap2day. Planet Earth is the only one that doesn’t. I did not include Dynasties and Dynasties II because each episode only features one species.
Thank you to Birch (@ambiguousmutt) for his help (he watched about half of the episodes) so I didn’t have to do it individually. Credit goes to him as well.
*Sometimes Attenborough doesn’t say the specific species and I was too busy trying to get through the episodes to identify it. In those cases I just put the most specific name I could.

Note
hello. i am a duck therian, a brown blotched call duck. and i know no other duck out there. no waterfowl at all. i am part of the community since 2008, been on and off. i also have to fight with depression and other mental health issues which make it difficult and make me doubt constantly. but being lonely and alone, probably the only duck therian on this world or the only active one on the internet is even more tiring. do you have any advice for me? anything that makes it easier?
I know it can get lonely and that you’re often filled with doubt when you have a rare theriotype. I’ve gone through it myself (and I still sometimes have sudden spells where I think I’ve been wrong all along and I’m actually a cow or a wildebeest). The brain is dumb, especially when you have mental health issues. I know for a fact that my own ADHD-induced anxiety isn’t helping my doubts!
You don’t have to find someone you share a kintype with to make friends and foster a community. Some of the best friends I’ve made in this community are bats, bonobos, and dragons! And the times I’ve talked to other hoofed therians, the conversation has usually died fairly quickly because we didn’t have much in common outside of our kintypes. You can never predict who you’ll vibe with!
Despite our different kintypes, we all go through roughly the same experiences. I don’t get phantom wings, but I’ve felt a phantom tail often, and can relate to the experience through that. I don’t feel a call towards the jungle, but I still miss forests I’ve never visited. Though our experiences are slightly different, they’re still fundamentally the same.
I’m not gonna tell you you’ll find another duck therian. It might happen or it might not, and we can’t sit around and wait for mights and maybes. But I know for a fact that there are other bird therians, other therians drawn to lakes, other therians with domestic theriotypes, and so on. And I know for a fact that whatever shifts and wants and dysphoria you might feel, you’re not alone.
Seek out people you can share your experiences with, and who know what you’re going through. I personally prefer Discord servers, but there are also forums, facebook groups, amino, and of course lots of people right here on tumblr. If you need help finding a community where you feel comfortable talking, I can send you a few links. And if you’re anxious, I don’t mind joining a new community along with you so you won’t be the only ‘new kid’. You don’t have to go through this alone❤️

I wish ppl talked more often abt how therianthropy/non-humanity can potentially impact your entire life. I dont just mean having to deal with smaller scale things like daily shifts or species dysphoria (although those can also definitely have long term impacts), I mean like how it can very literally change the trajectory of your life.
Because of my wildebeest theriotype, I have an extremely strong desire to live a nomadic lifestyle, and I 1000% plan to do so as soon as I know how to do it safely/get the money. I will likely never be fully content staying in any one place for a long period of time, I will always seek out drastic and extended types of traveling, which is gonna really impact me down the line given the current structure of human society.

☆🌱° DNI °🌱☆
I dont rlly have a strict dni, but in general I dislike radqueers + transID ppl and really do not agree with their ideology/their involvement within alterhuman spaces. Same can be applied to folks who publicly glorify and promote abuse/assault for their own personal enjoyment (aka proshippers), and anyone who thinks it's okay to be proud of wanting to assault children (respectfully, you should be hunted for sport <3). As for everyone else, ig just dont be a dick/creep and we're good :3
