Message in a Bottle
i sent this drabble to @whumpletters as an ask for day 10 of WIJ, but sadly, it seems the moderator of the blog went on hiatus just 12 hours before i sent it in! i still wanted to post it, so here it is.
Whumpmas in July Day 10: Check out a new whump blog and drop them an ask
-
[A rolled up scrap of paper rests inside a dirty glass bottle washed up on the riverbed. Text is carefully scratched out in red ink.]
I don't know where I am, but if I've succeeded and you're reading this, I must be upstream of wherever you are. Please help me. She took me to this tower and won't let me leave. I haven't seen what the outside of it looks like, but it's close enough to the river that I could throw this from the window. If this doesn't work, I'll throw myself out of it next and hope I survive.
There can't be that many towers near the river. Please find me, please send someone, anyone. I don't know how much longer I can go on. She doesn't give me enough food. She's using me to practice her magics. I fear she plans on hurting others after she's done testing with me. If not for me, you have to help me for the public good. You could be next.
Please help me. Please. Please. Please.

Whumpmas in July: Day 11
Whumpy Daydreaming Songs
The first song that comes to mind when I think of whumpy music is "The Red Means I Love You" by Madds Buckley. It's a super dramatic, jazzy song, and the lyrics really capture the 'obsessive whumper' trope.
I also tend to use lullabies in whump writing a lot, particularly in caretaking scenes. I am a sucker for Disney lullabies, in particular "La La Lu" from Lady and the Tramp and "Baby Mine" from Dumbo.
Lastly, "Exit Music (For A Film)" by Radiohead gives me major whump vibes. I have a very specific image in my mind when I listen to it of an escape where only one of two captives makes it out alive, and I swear the lyrics fit this narrative perfectly.

Hello fellow whump blog! I'm way behind in my Whumpmas in July but luckilyI remembered to get back to it before the month was over! I'm on Day 10 right now ("check out a new whump blog and drop them an ask") and you're a whump blog I haven't seen before so I'm saying hi!!! 👋
And I saw that you've only recently forayed into the world of whump! Welcome!! Honestly, this is one of the nicest communities ever, full of such great people, so you'll find a lot of love and support here!
When did you first get into whump/when did you realized you liked it?
Hello to you too, fellow whump blog!
Thanks a bunch for the ask!
My apologies for such a late answer, I got some technical issues for the past few days (read: I did not have a functional keyboard) and hence I am behind on Whumpmas too.
You are so right about the community, and I have a feeling that you are quite the nice and warm person yourself!
Coming to your ask, I had made a post about Jaime Lannister’s trauma conga line awakening quite the number of whumperfies in me. That was my first concrete realization of liking whump.
But thinking even further back, one of the first whump scenes I remember liking (another scene is for yet another whumpmas post) is in the movie Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It is a scene in which Gale Hawthorne, one of the major characters, gets quite the whipping.
I loved the scene. The dramatic, high-stakes nature of it (the heroine puts herself between Gale and the whip as he weakly tries to dissuade her) raised quite the number of whumperflies.
Looking forward to more Whumpmas posts from you!

Check out a new whump blog and drop them an ask
so this is a new whump blog (less than a month old!) specifically designed for sending asks!
Whump Letters
@whumpletters, a "whump mailbox", is a blog where you can send letters to whump characters. you can send a message to your own oc, someone else's oc, a general whump archetype, as yourself, as a persona, as an oc, as a general whump archetype, whatever you want!
it's a fun little creative community space and i absolutely adore the idea. we need more community-writing stuff. i'll be sending an ask in!

10. What is your favorite whumpy story you have written?
Hello!
Thank you for the question! I am assuming this is for @whumpmasinjuly hence tagging @whumpmasinjuly-archive as well.
The answer is that it varies by character.
I usually write about Arjun and Jaime Lannister.
For Arjun, Vagdhandaja is a story I genuinely have cried writing, and I am sure that story has even more scenes that can bring me near tears. But I like it regardless, because, unlike canon, what happened to Arjun is recognised as wrong. His mother and his wife help him heal, for all that he was hurt severely.
For Jaime, The War That Outlasted Christmas is my favourite in the ones I have posted about him, because, again, for all that he has been and will be hurt in multiple ways of varying severity, his parents and people who care about him will step up to protect him and help him with healing.
In my as yet unpublished works, I do enjoy Yathamathi for Arjun (which I am revamping) and Through Trails and Trials for Jaime, because both of these, again, feature enormous hurt to either the PoV character or someone they care about, along with a dash of misunderstood whumpee, but the misunderstandings about them resolve splendidly in story.
Honorable mention definitely goes to Embers and Shards, my Caelon PoV of the amazing Sun and Glass series by @whumpflash Exploring Caelon’s trauma is a difficult, but very rewarding thing to do!
Thanks again for the ask!
