aquired a wii udraw and its soooo cool??!!! like out of all the wii acsessories its is like so awesome?? its like a drawing tablet for the wii.... im really enjoying it so far!!!!

Did you know the Nintendo Wii had a drawing tablet? Well I tried drawing on it so you don't have to! I have so many thoughts about it - from the fact it surprisingly has pressure sensitivity, to the fact the pen is so chonky my fingers are dented by holding it

A friend of mine booted up their old wii and found the “drawing tablet” that went with it. With enough practice you could probably make some pretty good stuff despite the limited functionality, but having only one layer makes it pretty hard. Either way we had fun for a while.

I will say I do have a new respect for digital artists who started with software like this when they were younger, it takes willpower to stick with something like this

not offensive at all! i used to have a udraw for the wii..... for some reason i never used it. i think 7-year-old me had trouble getting it to work and gave up 😔

TW: Vent, component failure, ect.

Today is the day Feliix [my Wii's] disc drive has finally broken, he's been showing signs for a long time such as weird noises on rare occasions, and trouble reading discs if not some days none at all. It really saddens me since I probably won't be allowed to fix him, or get him fixed. If my family finds out he'll be put up, left to rot and be lost for god knows how long over something that's easily fixable. I'm terrified and on the verge of tears, and the only other option if my family finds out I'm not using discs? Is to confess that I homebrewed him back in Feb [before our relationship and my objectum awakening], which will get him taken away from me, data wiped, grounded, etc. I feel so bad for not being able to do something about this, and I just got him a new disc for uDraw Studio: Instant Artist [which is how I found out]. The replacement flaps for his GameCube memory card and controller ports haven't even shipped yet either, someone help me please I don't know what to do. Why does it have to be like this, why couldn't have I just gotten a disc drive instead of the flaps and replaced his anyways, and I don't even have enough money for one now. Fuck this shit.

Also!! You really don’t need fancy art supplies- my go to method to draw or at least practice was to just take a random notebook and a pencil and just go to town. I don’t use it as much these days- mostly because I haven’t had much time to just doodle- but I still find myself fishing out notebooks to do rough comics in. When I was first starting out, I used index cards as my “canvas”, a ballpoint pen I found in my parents’ junk drawer, and a box of those cheap crayola colored pencils. I upgraded my materials the more into it I got (I wasn’t GOOD per say, but I was having fun drawing my emo cats)

The notebook paper and pencil thing remained constant though 😭

As for digital art? I’m probably not the best person to ask because my introduction was uDraw Studio on the Wii, Flipnote on the DSi, and Pokemon Art Academy on the 3DS.

What I’m trying to say is that if you really want to learn how to make art, you’ll find a way even if you don’t have fancy materials.

The most you need is time and patience.

📚Here is my list:

The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.

"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.

"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.

"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.

"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.

"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.

"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.

"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.

"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.

Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

Those are the ones I can recall.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.

my cousin was colouring on udraw studio on my wii and had been at it for like 30 minutes when a pop-up came up saying she'd run out of paint and needed to either erase or start over. 😭 like 3/4ths of the way through the painting. i tried googling but it's a wii game that required a special apparatus that cost $70 on release so not only did i not find a solution i didn't find any record of this happening to anyone in the history of the earth. that's so fucked up. who would do something like that, make a game where you can run out of colour when colouring. do you want me to colour or not. wtf.
