I read this book, Wildwood Whispers, by Willa Reece and the main character is an adult orphan whose bff dies and she has to return to her friend's small town in deep woods west virginia. Long story short, she falls in love with the woods and really connects to them and the Earth and it helps her connect to the community and open her heart to the people around her.
She also learns how to use her garden to live, according to the family's remedy book (it's kinda witchy but in a sweet way?). I loved it and it made me wish i was living deep in the woods in a lil cabin with a garden more than anything else. I wish it was easy to drop everything and do that, cause i would be so happy surrounded by trees and life all the time.

Review of "Wicca for One" by Raymond Buckland
I really enjoyed this book. This is my first taste of Buckland's writing and I was amazed by how thorough it was, considering his Blue Book is often regarded as definitive in many respects. This book covers both the religion and the practice of Wicca in great detail.
My instinct is to compare it to Scott Cunningham's "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" which is a work directly sited in this. However, I feel like Cunningham is very open ended, encouraging the reader to follow their own instincts, which is great for some Wiccan seekers. However, if someone is looking for detail and direction, if they do not have much confidence in their own practice, this is exactly where they should start.
My main criticisms are that Buckland is very much a prescriptivist. He often acts as though Wicca and Witchcraft are interchangeable and often goes on about how "real witches" act and do not act, real witches don't do curses or how all witches believe in reincarnation. That is a relic of an older perspective, when Wicca was looking for legitimacy and grounding, so though I understand it, I still find it frustrating. Next to that, my other criticism is quite small. I find that his spells and rituals are a bit too wordy for my taste, though that is just purely my own opinion. And one that can be easily just altered when I do these spells.

It has occurred to me that it's probably in Billy's best interest that the others didn't live cause can you imagine how pissed off they'd be after they found out that the road didn't exist and all of those trials were the result of him (and the media) stereotyping witches?
Oh, God, he is dead once Jen figures it out.

Some of my thoughts since the last episode of Agatha All Along:
The most earnest show of religion in an MCU property is being done through a queer kid. I like that the wider world is learning about the intersectionality of identity. I believe that Billy is as Jewish as William because a) the only family he knows has 'raised' him Jewish and b) his love of witchcraft and ritual and finding ways to explain his world intersect with the rituals and traditions of his faith. Even William was deeply fascinated with magic and witchcraft and journeys of discovery.
Marvel fans are aware that Wiccan is a strong character. The fact that this symbol of masculine strength can be found in a witch boy who is raised to be strong in his sense of self by women in his coven, is awesome. He is drawn to feminine strength as inspiring instead of looking for male heroes. He is attracting feminine forms of protection (Alice), feminine disruptors of the status quo and stereotypes (Lilia), strength in the feminine aesthetic and belief in your innate power (Jen), feminine quest for knowledge and ambition (Agatha). He is being shadowed by death (Rio), but even death gives life in its reincarnation (as we return to earth and feed the earth with our life-force to continue on in new forms).
I believe that Wiccan is/can be as important to the MCU as Spiderman is. Spiderman is a teenager who could be any and everyone. Spiderman looks up to Iron Man, especially but also seeks male role models and approval. (A big part of Iron Man's humanity and softness came from mentoring Peter Parker - I see parallels between Agatha Harkness and Iron Man in this way too).
I believe Wiccan is a version of masculinity to teens that can see that women hold the depth of knowledge and power that he is more interested in unlocking and that their experiences with adversity will be better guides for him as he grows to be the most powerful magic user in the MCU. He is also chosen as a witch and not a sorcerer/wizard/warlock.
Will we be getting little boys and girls and theys aspiring to be wiccans and spidermen equally?
#i love the nuance between dark and light in this show - that nurturing comes from accepting all parts of ourselves and each other#witchcraft is being so well showcased#it being not exact science but about belief#wanda's magic is partly about shaping reality#which if wiccan has inherited that - his balanced sense of belief is very important for humanity#both lorna's version of the ballad as well as the original are good rule books for Billy Maximoff-Kaplan#agatha all along#agatha all along spoilers#billy maximoff#william kaplan#billy kaplan#wiccan mcu#agatha harkness#ballad of the witches' road#billy kaplan as an anti-incel insert into male nerddom#lgbtqia+#intersectionality

I recently finished reading Deborah Lipp's "The Study of Witchcraft: A Guidebook to Advanced Wicca" and I must say it was somewhat disappointing. Calling itself "advanced" is somewhat misleading to me given that it reads to me far more as a 102 course. The book is a broad surview of a number of topics that a young witch must be familiar with and a good selection of further reading.
If taken as a surview for advanced beginners, I think it is fairly good. I have some issues with Lipp discussing Jungian psychology, a thoroughly debunked fad in psychology, but nevertheless one that is widespread. Still, that is by no means unique to Lipp and is essentially only in the context of encouraging witches to study their own minds, so I don't take offense here.
Though I did not learn much from this book, I would still encourage new witches and Wiccans to look into this book and then look at its further reading lists.

Witchcraft 101: An Introductory Post
What is Witchcraft?
Witchcraft is the practice of magick. It's a series of techniques one uses to harness and/or manipulate energies externally or internally to change one's surroundings of circumstances as well as themselves. This can be done through using herbs, stones, crystals, and other materials.
Witchcraft can, and is, performed in a plethora of ways. It can be done through meditation, spell work, rituals or even baking and cooking. Witchcraft is as unique as you are. To practice witchcraft you do not need a religion, however most people practice witchcraft to feel more connected to their chosen religion. Witchcraft is as unique as the individual demonstrating it.
What makes someone a witch?
A witch is a person who practices magick. Witches can come from any background, any age, race or gender and religion. The term 'witch' is a gender-neutral, universal name. A being who claims the title may do what they desire with the craft. There are many types of witches, all of which are nature based. Not all witches are interested in the same type practise, however. One may prefer the study and use of crystals, and another being drawn to divination or even one of the elements.
A witch is neither good or bad, as they are only human.
There aren't any rules to being a witch (unless your religion states otherwise). Whilst you don't have to be religious to be a witch, most witches who practise, are most commonly Wiccan.
What is Paganism?
Pagan is an umbrella term for the many non-Abrahamic religions. This included Hinduism, Wicca, Buddhism, Sikhism, etc. However, not a lot of people fall into a specific type of religion that comes under paganism but still believe in & worship more than one God/Goddess or Greater being such as the elements, for example. Many, if not most, witches, fall under the Wiccan religion.
Paganism, across all sub-genres, follow holidays/festivals, and in many religions, many they follow The Eight Sabbats, or Wheel of the Year. The Sabbats, depending on the religion, have slight variations in terms of rituals, timing and practicing of the holidays i.e. which God/Goddess is associated, traditional colours or foods. It also is up to the individual as to what they do and don't want to celebrate.
"All Wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccan. All Wiccans are Pagan, but not all Pagans are Witches."
Religion VS. Spirituality
Religion and spirituality are often meshed together and difficult to differentiate the two. Some people believe there is a blurred line between them, whereas another may believe they are two completely different topics.
So, how can we tell the two apart?
Religion is an institutionalised system of certain attitudes, practises and beliefs; often the service or worship of a greater being than ones self or the supernatural. A religion is often based upon life lessons and teachings of a historical or archetypal figure. Typically, there is a place of worship, such as churches, temples, mosques and cathedrals. Religion is a structured organised system that is heavily rule based with it's main focus on the faith of the religion (scriptures of being infallible and ultimate or truth. Acceptance and the surrender to the Divine are taught as the path to complete and ultimate salvation. Religion is one path for all to follow.
Spirituality is a connection that one has to something that is much larger than yourself. Spirituality is an aspect of humanity where an individual seeks and expresses meaning and purpose through the connection they experience to a moment. People who are spiritually awakened liv4e life in a reverent and sacred manner. Yoga, meditation and contemplation all help a person to start, progress and explore their journey. Many use these practices to reach out to their spirit guides, past lives and even advice from outside forces. Each journey is unique. Spirituality is often referred to as a "pathless path". Spirituality is about following your own path and learning, growing, loving and acceptance on a more personal level. Unlike religion, spiritualists do not follow a set of rules n regards to their inward journey but, faith is not dismissed and entirely acceptable to incorporate with spirituality.
