Linkin Park has always been one of my favorite bands and pulled me through many rough patches over my life. A lot of this I attributed to Chester's vocals that spoke to a depth and sincerity of feeling that an angry punk of a kid like me needed to keep fighting and feeling. RIP Chester Bennington. Why Is Everything So Negative?

I’m bothered by all these people hating on “Heavy” by Linkin Park. And as a musician that loves to experiment, and try new things, I feel personally guilty for how they’re trying to make LP feel.  When I was growing up I was going through a lot of stuff at home (age 12-14) , and was always searching for some way to feel better about all of it. The only thing I could find was music, and the first band I related to was LP.

I’ve been following them with as much loyalty as a financially struggling fan can, and through all this time, I’ve heard their sound change fairly often. I don’t find it to be a bad thing, but of course there are many who disagree.

Sure. The sound they have for their new single may not be what “the fans want”, but is that really how a musician/band should function? No. Music has never been about making *other* people happy. It’s always been about expressing yourself through sound, and even harmony of sound.

LP started out with Nu-Metal, and has slowly come closer to the EDM-type music, and despite the fact that I *personally* am a fan of their original stuff, as well as Rock/Metal, and Progressive-Rock/Metal, I still love what they do.

The sound has changed. The band has changed course. But have *they* changed, really? I suppose it’s really a matter of opinion as to if they’re still enjoyable, but I don’t think they’ve really changed.

They have been experimenting with new sounds throughout their whole career, and have not only learn new things, but have taught people like myself new things. Why is everything so heavy? Because you guys made it heavy.

I didn't give this album a chance cause it was so different to the things I loved by them (hybrid theory/meteora kinda stage) but since the hard news about Chester I thought I'd give it a go. I now can't stop singing this and his lyrics hurt me and bring me peace at the same time. Their music has always spoken to me, the lyrics are so real and make you feel like you're not alone.
