#why not the batfam enters DP universe

DC x DP Prompt *6*

The entire Bat-Clan was on their way back from a mission abroad. Batman was the one in command of the Bat-Plane, while the kids tended to their wounds or were asleep. (Tim may have slept only 3 hours this entire week and Bruce would probably have to carry him to bed, as soon as they would be home.) Alfred knew that the family was on their way and was probably already cooking up a feast. Soon they could all rest.

At least that was the plan.

Before the Bat could even register what was happening, a swirling green Portal opened in front of the plane. Every system was screeching, while his kids all got ready for a fight.

He couldn't do anything to stop them from making contact and just two seconds after the green mass appeared the plane collided with it.

But on the other side was just more green. And some floating, purple doors.

Bruce immediately turned the plane around, but he was just greeted with the exact same few, without a portal.

And one look on the scans showed that they weren't in any to the Justice League known dimension.

They drifted through the strange world, sometimes seeing floating islands among the green abyss. While they all stayed vigilant, they also started to theorize.

The only one not participating was Jason, who had the strange feeling of a Deja Vu.

The green seemed to go on forever, at least until another green vortex opened in front of them and they incident repeated itself.

And for a split second they all thought that they are back in their world, but the navigation system seemed to be unable to provide them with any information on how to get home or on the place they landed in.

The Batman grunted in a way that all his children knew.

It was the grunt he made, when he wasn't able to say 'fuck'.

I feel like a lot of people shy away from using the nasty burger explosion as a jumping off point for crossovers because it seems obvious. But sometimes the obvious choice is obvious because it works, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Like specifically for DP/DC crossovers, that event is PERFECT as a starting point. It’s literally on par with many DC character backstories. So many people try to integrate all these characters from DP that they either feel compelled to include or just use as evidence that the DP universe is still involved. Plus, the “take it or leave it” approach would also go for DC characters and villains. Not every fic needs the Joker, just like not every Batman movie’s villain should be the Joker. The Joker is an interesting villain when done right, and he needs a certain amount of attention to do his character right. But, this story would not be about him. So, leave him out.

I’ll make it easy for you: Danny would NEVER in his life live with Vlad. Danny would never listen to whatever court decided to put him with Vlad. He would run away to a semi-far away city, try not to appear as Phantom, and hide within the masses. Now we have two ways to go from there: either Danny can’t help but fight crime, catching the attention of the Batfam, OR Danny is a homeless teen living on the street that catches the attention of Bruce Wayne. I feel like the second option is the most interesting, since he would still be keeping Phantom a secret, while Bruce is also keeping the Batfam secret from him because “he’s just a normal kid, I don’t want him getting mixed up in the vigilante side of this family.” Meanwhile Danny is sneaking out as Phantom to contemplate whether it was a good idea to accept being taken in by another billionaire. Then, enter: Vlad. Main villain, easy choice, best choice. He resents Danny for the accident that killed Maddie, but he also wants him to still be his son because he’s kind of a fruitloop, so he still attempts to track him down. They meet at a banquet. Massive drama. Danny has to pretend they’re meeting for the first time again. Bruce is curious why Danny seems extra uncomfy. After that, Danny tries to run away again because Gotham isn’t safe. This causes Bruce to track him down and try to get answers out of him: why are you leaving? Why isn’t Gotham safe anymore? It’s no more unsafe that it was yesterday?? Did you just say Vlad??? Like Vlad Masters???? Kid, what’s your story? Like please, someone who has the time, write this. Free idea (that I may also write in the future), please go crazy!
