on the good news train today: I have finally finished the last chapter(!!!) of my Inklings challenge story, which marks the FIRST ever Inklings challenge story I've ever completed properly :'D coming in at 30,810 words (yikes) (it did get out of hand, I must admit), it is definitely not a short story, but it IS a piece that I think articulates a lot of what I've been thinking about lately re: love and death, and, considering everything, is probably something I needed to write. I am very happy!! It has been a wild ride, but a deeply clarifying one.
#ALSO i went to watch hadestown on friday and i came out of that a changed person. i will literally never recover from that experience.#hadestown also has significantly shaped this story along with HMA's little mermaid and goblin market and sir orfeo btw#anywayyyy i am going to BED i have midterms to study for tomorrow which i have been putting off for too long!!!!#inklings round 3#i'm bracing for impact this week (it's gonna be ROUGH) but i am holding to julian of norwich's wise wise words for this one#all shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well!#including midterms (of which i have TWO right after reading break. ain't no rest for the wicked and the righteous#don't need none and who knows where i fall) and boy problems and family worries#all SHALL be well!!#why my soul are you downcast! why so disturbed within me!#put your hope in God for I will yet praise Him my saviour and my God#magpie said think of jane austen's wise words too#(friendship is the best balm for the pangs of disappointed love) and she was right :)#im sitting on my little raft and paddling steadily onwards!#thank you for sitting on the step with me through the dusk and blue hours and dark days#all shall be well for pete's sake!!!!! all SHALL be well!!!!!#last year of school log

He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of Joy. Job 8:21
Maybe, it’s been ages since you laughed out loud. The pressures and worries of the world have pinned you down and you are not able to rise up. It feels as if the floods of despair have overwhelmed you.
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God. Psalm 42:5
Jesus understands your pain and sorrows.
Maybe, the enemy is whispering in your ears, “There is no hope for you! You are never going to see anything good in your life.” Don’t listen to him, he is a liar!
Times of refreshing will come. God will yet again fill your mouth with laughter. Psalm 118:15 says, “There are shouts of rejoicing and victory in the tents of the righteous.” Yes, and on that day you will declare, “The Lord’s powerful right hand has done this.”

It’s deer hunting season again! I’m not a hunter, but I’m a nature lover, and it can teach us a lot about spiritual things. In fact, a deer can teach us how much even the toughest man needs the Lord.
Psalm 42:1
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
Why is the deer panting? There’s only three reasons why deer pants:
He’s chasing after a female deer, a doe.
He’s fighting another stag over a doe.
He’s running for his life because of some danger, like a hunter or a mountain lion.
it’s the running for your life situation this psalmist is talking about. When you’re desperately needing God your soul “pants” for Him, whether you realize it or not. It’s like you have been running for your life and are heaving for your next breath. You’re excruciatingly thirsty - and the heaving breaths don’t help things.
The presence of God is like a “ stream of water”. A stream is running water, that’s pure, not stagnant. At that point we would probably drink stagnant water. In fact, in the past, we have drank stagnant water. We’ll get to that in a minute. But running water is pure water, which truly quenches our thirst.
The stagnant water? We have served other gods, chasing after love, excitement, acceptance, fulfillment, feeling good. All idols before God, maybe drugs, alcohol, sex, relationships, activities, even food. We’ve tried to comfort ourselves in many ways.
But what we need is the pure water.
David was a man among men facing Goliath as a mere boy yet he realized this. Real men know what they need to stay strong whether in the gym or at the stream.
In this case, the stream is our Lord. What we thirst for, what we are panting for, is the pure water, Jesus Christ!
In fact, the next verse says,
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Jesus told the woman at the well that He was the living water and one who drinks from that living water will never thirst again. (John 4:14)
Verse 11 goes onto say:
“Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?”
Are you feeling down, depressed, disturbed inside? Take a listen to the rest of the verse:
“Put your hope in God,”
for I will yet praise him,”
Even if you are down and disturbed he says praise Him. Why? Because David knows that the Lord is, as he puts:
“my Savior and my God.”
Jesus is our Savior. that Hebrew word for savior actually means deliverer. He not only delivers us from sin, he delivers us from the effects of sin.
I know this personally, friends. The Lord delivered me from a time when I was down, disturbed, and hopelessly addicted in many ways. We could compare my situation with yours, but that would be a waste of time. I would rather point you to the living water that quenches your thirsting soul.
My friends, that state of being down and depressed, addicted, was 40 years ago. Since then I have pastored and reached a place of leadership in addiction and mental health treatment in our state. How?
I started by panting at the Stream to reach some peace and sanity. Then I started panting at the Stream about problems in my family, then my work.
Then there was a major consolidation in the healthcare field that went on for years where mergers and acquisitions put me out on the street again and again because of layoffs - and I was the sole support of my family.
You better believe I did some painting at the Stream. Each time I got an even better job paying more because the Lord showed me at the Stream strategies that were new and more effective, and empowered me to do them.
And there’s nothing too small to come panting to the Stream about. The Lord just loves that you come and that you come panting.

Hope In The Lord
https://www.unitedbyprayer.com/united-by.../hope-in-the-lord
God's people can always find encouragement and comfort in the shadow of His wings. Those who trust in God have a great assurance that He will vindicate us in front of all who have purposed evil against us. Unlike the writer of this psalm, we are not under the Law. During this Church dispensation, we do not have to go to a particular place to meet the Lord. We do not have to go to the tent of meeting or the tabernacle of the Lord to worship our God. Our access to God is not limited to a time or feast day or participation in a religious ritual. As members of Christ's Body, we have the Spirit of peace and joy and can enter boldly into the room of grace, for mercy to find help in times of need. We need to realize that the antidote to despair and distress is Hope In The Lord, and we need to apply it to our life on a day-to-day basis. We need to know and appropriate all the precious promises that are ours in Christ, when we delight ourselves in the Lord and offer Him our sacrifice of praise, we reignite our trust in Him and as our faith increases so fear and depression will be forced to flee away.
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, there is much in this fallen world that can drag us into depression and distress of souls, but our hope is in You, You are the Anchor of our souls and the Rock of our salvation. When our souls are inclined towards despair or when fear begins to creep into our hearts, we pray that we would hope in God, fix our minds on Jesus, trust You with all our hearts, and present our lives to you as sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving. Thank You that You are our God, the Lover of our souls, the Light of the world, and the joy of all the ends of the earth. Our hope is in You and we praise Your name forever and ever, AMEN.

Be Hopeful 📌
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. -Psalm 42:5 On this special day, my heart was filled with so much joy to celebrate a gift in my life. I had made a plan. I bought a cake for someone to celebrate them and it just seemed like one part of the plan wasn’t going well. It just had to be cake aspect but I…

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God. - Psalms 42:11
How often, when things don't go our way, or when there seems to be no way out of our predicament, we feel just like the Psalmist. Our soul is downcast, and disturbed. We go about as if the whole world is our shoulders. Is that how you feel? This means your struggles have got the best of you. This also means your hope in Jesus has been diminishing, it's been misplaced. You have taken your eyes off the Lord.
All you have to do now is to remind yourself that the Lord has not left you. Like the Psalmist, you need to say to yourself, "Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God." And as you do that, He will fill your heart with renewed hope, peace and abundant joy.

When Hope Seems Impossible
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God.
PSALM 42:5
How can we have hope when there isn’t any reason to have hope?
Some people, I’ve found, are just naturally optimistic; no matter what happens to them, they almost always react with a brave smile and a positive outlook. “We must keep up our hopes, they say—even when they have no reason to hope. Unfortunately, their hope is little more than wishful thinking.
But this isn’t the kind of hope the Bible urges us to have. It tells us to find our hope in God—not in our circumstances, or our natural optimism (or pessimism), or our family or friends—but from God.
How is this possible? It happens only when we realize how much God loves us—a love so deep that His Son was willing to give His life for us. It happens too when we realize that this life is not all, but ahead of us is Heaven if we know Christ. Is your hope in Him—both for this life and the life to come?☕️B Graham
