in the past i’ve said that BJ doesn’t seem to have closeness with 4077ers who aren’t hawkeye despite being around for 8 seasons and i’ve explained that away by saying that 1) it’s a way of trying (and failing) to distance himself from the war; he can’t let himself get close too close to people 2) he’s too traumatized to form bonds with others 3) highly subjective but it could be a chemistry thing with mike and others  of those three i like the first one the most but i’ve also continually asked myself why hawkeye is such a glutton for punishment, absorbing all of the consequences of BJ’s depression and rage, justifiable or not, as the show goes on and there’s lots of ways to explain that away - hawkeye is an angel or an altruist to a fault, hawkeye is in love with BJ, hawkeye is just that loving or there’s other stuff happening with BJ offscreen and you can interpret his episodes as being just that, episodes, that are not reflective of the whole - but i am coming up on a new hc which is that maybe hawkeye is an exception to the rule. after all, the show expends a ton of energy convincing us that hawkeye is one of a kind, build different, simply the Best - so maybe there’s a dark side to that. maybe everyone else, Margaret, Klinger, Charles etc have been reacting to BJ the way you just might after repeated outbursts or general standoffishness.
