Speaking of her: what she mentioned in her posts about characters is technically true but QOAAD book is so long and the emphasis is on romance, sex (not SJM level tho) and romance angst. Everything else takes a back seat. If you give 300 pages to a romance plot and 3 pages to something else (1/2)

you are sending a clear message what you find the most important in your book. You can’t act all condescending to your fans when they notice. It’s not just about this book; all of her books go back to romance and romance angst. Incest plot for Clace = romance angst. Will’s curse in TID= romance angst. Parabatai curse in TDA = romance angst. You get the idea. Also, horrible context of Shadowhunters vs Downworlders as a metaphor for real-life racism (and SH presented as heroes).(2/2)

Hi, I’m glad I could help! Yeah, that’s one of the key reasons why I have a lot more respect for authors like Dennard and Bardugo over Clare and Mess. They are always open about their mistakes and listen to their readers when they get something wrong and try to do better next time. CC and SJ/M on the other hand… CC writes pages of excuses that paint her as the good guy instead of trying to learn why people are calling her out, and Mess doesn’t even respond to the criticisms except vaguely saying every once in awhile that she uses sensitivity readers to cover her ass. Both of these reactions to criticism are pretty bad and they should be embarrassed IMO. I don’t know the full Q0AAD context, but I’ve read a lot of valid criticism of the book and CC’s treatment of the characters in question, and I know CC’s tendencies well enough to know that she always writes the same romance tropes and she is in denial about every problematic thing she’s ever done. It’s rather disingenuous of her to give the WOC a token Empowering Moment and then throw that in the readers’ face when they dare question her about the way she wrote her story to almost entirely focus on angst. She’s very deliberately framing certain facts about the book’s contents in order to make the anon seem at fault instead of actually accepting the possibility that she may have messed up when writing a WOC. Everyone makes mistakes, it’s okay Eclair. Please own up to it and try better next time instead of misleading your current and future readers to make yourself look like the hero. I feel like she needs to go back to writing school and relearn how to silently listen to constructive critics and then make edits. Her responses are ridiculous and bordering on unprofessional. I understand getting defensive about your writing, but if more than one person calls you out on something you have to be able to acknowledge the problem and self-evaluate. Otherwise how will you improve?

And definitely, the Shadow/hunters as a people are very problematic. It’s established from CoB that of all the non-mundanes, they are the ones in power. There is a clear dichotomy between SH and Down/worlders (fae, werewolves, vampires, and warlocks, IIRC). They have the weapons, the resources, the organization, the political/magical power, everything. They disempower DW verbally, physically, personally, and politically. To place characters in that position is to make them privileged. She showed that pretty early on in the series by having the SH interact with DW such as Rafael, Magnus, and Luke, and ESPECIALLY when Clary and Simon both changed from mundanes. Clary went from being a mundane to being a SH while Simon became a vampire. That difference was part of the books to exemplify the power imbalance between them (and also because CC is obsessed with love triangles). All this to say that the SH/DW dynamic can be and has been compared to real-life oppression. As the author, it is CC’s job to understand and recognize that her SH, the heroes of each book in her saga, are also oppressors and exercise their privilege over others. Seeing as I only read three of the TSC books, I don’t know the details of how she has or has not worked with this dynamic, but all signs point to her not understanding their privilege and continuing to center them and their discriminatory tendencies in her saga. Yikes.

smashed it lads. I hit T1 p early on with Super Love=Super Live (the highest note song for cool) and managed to stay there. Rip Helix who was just pushed out of T1 (and who got there with Nico Puri, the highest note song of the ChaFest). So kids, let this be a lesson that having an extra 51 notes in ur song means nothing if you don’t have a lv4 scorer UR in ur team. 

Interestingly this is the highest I’ve scored on a single song in any CF or Token event across servers. So, suck EN’s cool dick, JP. Feels good to have EN beat JP in something for once.

Swap Mirai Ticket for Hand in Hand and I would have had the optimal line up. This was the first time I used the reroll option and it paid off. It got me back into T3 for the song score.

5 gems. Standard. As for the MF ranks; I smashed all my friends on the song ranks again (T2) but fell out of points T2 rip. Literally 120 points and I would have had idolised Kanan too. Just a few more FC’d MFs and I’d have her rip.

Guessed the new Mari would be pure. I’m not a fan of this set but I have new scouting rules (rambling about that at the end). This was a great pull tho. Got all the new cards apart from the UR. I GOT YOUUUUU!! I love her.

And enough for a BT! I don’t have this Honk so that’s cool. Shame she’s a healer.

EN vs Helix: Guilty Night, Guilty Kiss

Having become a lot better at the game on a small screen combined with an easier event song I knew that this time I wouldn’t get away with EN’s team beating out the Helix. The only reason EN won last time was bc I couldn’t consistently FC Kururin on the phone and as I was friend-point hungry I wasn’t fussing around with picking a matching friend centre skill each time.

So, I’m sure it will be evident as to why EN gets buttblasted. Here is EN’s team:

5 URs?? Absolutely rekt m8. I mean last time I hadn’t levelled Xmas Eli so EN managed to beat a 4 UR team that couldn’t FC. But this time... rip. (Edit: I should also mention that during Kururin Helix was deficient in SIS like some cards didn’t even have all their slots full)

I SS’d all the results from Easy up to EX so if u’ve read this far might as well just show all

I didn’t keep track of which guest centres I used for each one, but it’s evident that Helix trumps all. Even that 1 good on Normal didn’t drop the score. But you know there was always a chance I wouldn’t FC the EX on a phone.

hmu with those 300 tokens each time. I’d like to congratulate EN on getting 16 greats on both versions. On the regular EX I used optimised guest centres and non-optimised for the EXR. Tiers for the songs have changed as of this event (I literally just remembered) and I’d say EN T3/Helix T2:

Basically my scouting plans have changed. The Helix plans are pretty simple: SHINY!! Any card I love aesthetically. So currently Christmas You is the next scout.

As for EN and JP, I made some ‘tables’ to help me:

These are the cards I’d like to run as my centres. Turns out my rampant Hanayo scouting on both servers have meant I should run similar teams on both servers. But EN is a bit more flexible atm.

However, my main priority for JP atm is getting tricolour Aqours URs. I already have a cool Riko, so I’m scouting for any Smile/Pure Aqours URs that turn up. But if any of the 4 URs above are in limited boxes then I’ll go for them too (but only if Honoka is in a Printemps box and Hanayo & Maki are in a 1st years box preferably).

On EN my priority before moving onto Aqours is to secure any Muse Smile UR. I’d love to get the ugly Ani2 Honk, but as EN doesn’t appear to have moved onto rate up limited boxes I doubt I’ll be going for it.

So we have this other handy chart:

All the scorers that would go nicely with my chosen centres. Very similar once again. Which means EN will be scouting for Pool2 Honk in the next event. Sadly this probably means I won’t be able to scout for Hanamaru. :( But the smile team needs a UR. I have a Pure You on EN so Hanamaru’s not even necessary to kickstart the Aqours team.
