I've been writing Red for as long as I can remember.

I'm one of the few (or probably many) who have had a long attachment to him. Earliest memories gotta be sitting down on my Nana's ancient pullout couch when I was like 11, watching pokemon videos on YT on my hand-me-down gateway windows vista laptop that probably had a virus or two on it, considering it was sitting gathering dust in our musty basement, where my grandpa kept all of the computer stuff he tinkered with. It's a really vivid memory because I think it's important to me.

I was very interested in him, not because "he's just like me" (this was prior to my transition, so I really didn't have any traditional autistic symptoms at this time.) but moreso the fact that he was just mysterious and interesting. Admittedly, I was already familiar with Pokemon Adventures, so that interpretation was my first introduction. I think one day I just went down the rabbit hole and found a bunch of stuff related to him, whether it be x reader fics on deviantart or any of that fanart where he was an "uwu baby twink" (you know the ones.)

This is incredibly long-winded but every few years I would continue to get an either brief or prolonged attachment to him. Became so obsessed when I found out he was in U/SM. Because I'd been roleplaying other characters (got my start in minecraft) over the years, it was really a given that I ended up picking him up. So I did. I've been doing it on and off since...probably 2019, I think. I deleted my old blog, so I don't quite remember. It may have even been earlier than that.

I don't think he's necessarily a part of me, I think he's just provided me a lot of comfort over the years and that's why I continue to write him. He's special. That's all.

oh, I understood that the supposed "trans allegory" applied to only one story, but I admit I didnt know about the animatronics being possesed by dead children. the problem is that i'm kind of a wimp so i usually avoid horror, but if even kids could play it it shouldn't be that horrible right? also, does that video feature screamers or something? some content creators do that when discussing horror related stories or formats like the iceberg videos and I really hate screamers lol

the american system is so weird in general to me, the fact that they only have a two party system when in my country there are like dozens of different political parties lmao. once we literally had 13 different presidencial candidates to choose from.

and notch is a certified asshole. after that, he simply stopped being involved in minecraft and kept on commenting on his twitter. i think he even mentioned the iq race theory once. he also seemed to be one of those guys that believes women only care about money, so when he finally became rich due to minecraft success, he was completely flabbergasted that women still kept rejecting him right and left lmao. he attributed this to him being too successful, and women being afraid of his success thus prefering subpar men to date. and I know all of this because he thought tweeting it all was a good idea. lets remember that a big part of his audience were literal kids.

i actually thought it was good that nintendo/game freak were attentive enough to change jynx skin and her facial features somewhat to avoid being insensitive even if it wasn't their intention. it has a different connotation in other countries, and it resembled black face whether people like to admit it or not, so some black kids could have been offended by it and decided to never play again. They had a similar but less known controversy with the character lenora, a black woman gym leader who wears an apron. nintendo of america thought she resembled a mammy so they removed her apron.

also, I remember once watching a video about the jynx controversy saying ganguro started earlier and in the same place the nintendo or pokemon office resided, but i dont remember well. then there's also mr popo from dragon ball, which is a very similar design, and in general akira toriyama designed his black characters with big pink lips, not to mr popo levels, but he did say he had never seen a black person before designing his characters and that's why they looked like that.

plus lets be honest, stereotypical racist black characters were actually somewhat common in japan, like the doll dakko chan which represented a little black girl.

I too stopped engaging with horror content since a while, but fnaf games are more like jumpscare type of games. There's nothing (visually) fundamentally horrific in them beside the lore.

And don't worry, I went through the whole 9 hours video and there's no jumpscare lol (that's something very shitty to do in a lore/iceberg video imo)

And LOL at that scrote coping about women feeling intimidated by his wealth? When there are entire armies of sugar babies around... Dead. 💀 Dude must be very awful to be around with because there are women willing to have sex with geriatric aged men with diapers for the money... They definitely aren't "intimidated" but much...

And sperging about IQ race theory is textbook White trash loser behavior. You know, those guys broke as hell and with a shitty life but they cling that narrative because "at least I'm not a low IQ nigger 🤪" to which I always wanna reply "sure but, where did that Caucasian high level IQ lead you to? look at your life. At least a bunch of those low IQ Africans have a house, family and job. You're obese, with no friends and living in a trailer park. Get your life on check before obsessing over people living on the other side of the globe 💀" Those people rely on fantasizing on other people's misery being worse, to make their own brand of misery less painful. "At least I'm not Black 🤪" they say while drowning under debt, on medication, with no job, and without any fulfilling human connection.... Tragic.

Africa has its own problem, but NGL when I see my uncles, aunt, cousins conservation on our family WhatsApp group they seem happier/more mentally stable than the average western netizen. It's really striking.

I'd rather have no Black character in anime than those shitty depictions 💀 the only japanese made Black character I'll acknowledge is HxH Canary and Kimberly in Street Fighter 8s freaking cute too (it's a GIANT step up compared to Elena from SF3 who was supposed to be Kenyan but had blue eyes and non textured(?) white hair(??)....💀). I heard they asked for an actual Black woman to give them tips so im not surprised the result is great. Black women are the only relevant ambassador of our owb representation). The average mangaka is to ignorant to properly pull out Black characters.For some reason I always assumed that Mr. Popo wasn't even human (more like an alien, like the namek lol) Toriyama excuse of not seeing a Black person irl to pull out such awful portrayal of black people is stupid. There were definitely photograph and shows featuring Black people. Wasn't Japan already industrialized in the 80s? They didn't have TV or poster magazine ? Bye.

hot take, but dsmp lore was much more interactive and had more potential when the ccs were allowed to just fuck around and mess with each other.

i think that because of how every cc are afraid of getting cancelled just cz they messed around with characters/or the present lore is the reason why dsmp lore is dying right now

its like every little thing they do, its always being scrutinized and controlled by fans/chat. its annoying because at this point, they cant do what they want and have fun cz they keep being judged by the viewers.

especially the lore fanatics- and i mean the ones that get angryand toxic over a building blowing up, or certain mobs getting killed in chaotic, non lore ways

like, dont you know that lore was created just cz some ccs just wanted to fuck around? and honestly, its the biggest reason on how other content creators could join in on fun lore: through messy, chaotic, random bullshit

like case and point: when people were bitching over michael the pig; yeah sapnap and george were messing around but did you know because of that so many other ccs got involved in that spontanious lore??

you had Sam, Hannah, Eret, Niki, and so much more who had joined in!

and look at Eret, they used the lore oportunity to further her characters lore! if gnf and sapnap havent messed around, then Eret wouldnt have taken michael to safety and had a big impact on them saving michael thing with Tubbo, Techno and Sam!

and it was literally just from gnf and sapnap messing around and having fun! and ccs were able to make lore out of it!

but then, people still got pissed at gnf and sapnap and even threatened to force them out of the dsmp; like they arent the founding fathers of the damn server?? the fuck??

im so annoyed cz yeah loreheads r cool and fun, and i was one of them before too; but if you get obsessive and some of you are projecting too much on the story and actually trying to control it, its getting really annoying and frustrating to even see things happen in the dsmp

why do you think ccs are so relunctant to do lore now? or even go on? yeah, maybe they have other plans but maybe cz in the past, the og(older) ccs just get blasted with scrutinization and keep getting judged and cancelled fr their actions whenever theyre on or just messing around

look at the dteam, they literally made the server and they cant even do anything in it cz everyone/chat is just being douchebags 24/7 when they on it (especially when they damage or kill certain mobs or buildings on the server, even though its literallt pixels and can be replaced/rebuilt)

and another thing was the blatant pick and choose attitude of some lore people do, like that one time people called Ponks lore 'fake/not canon lore' when they literally stated it was legit.

or how many times other creators have been very into lore and did their own thing bt people deemed it 'not good enough' for the story just cz its less professional than other ccs or that its more random

and i cant state enough how Bads egg lore was one of the best, most creepiest lore that helped a lot of ccs join in and mess around, and instead on twitter people shat on it saying it wasnt 'canon' or wasnt 'good enough' cz it felt rushed (it wasnt rushed, some of you just didint give Bad and his friends lore a chance or even tried to understand it) and now Bad doesnt even really feel like finishing it now

and another thing is how some of these ccs who have been morally grey in their characters and have done things in lore that some people dont like, suddenly they get harrased in twitter and in their irl lives, people are acting as if their character is them but newsflash, they are literally acting!

like when the ccs Quackity and Schlatt, Eret, Dream and Sam as well in their own lore. do you know just how many people went to their dms to harrass them and send hate and negativity over something their character did in minecraft?

not in game; but in their in real life interactions on twitter and social media were blasted with harrasment and hate over a fictional character that they made up. over a roleplay.

they are literally just actors in the dsmp, it is not them. and yet some of you have not seen the line that seperates fake to reality and have deemed them as bad as their characters??? what kind of bullshit is that.

some of the experiences they had were horrible, messages like doxxing, hate and kys were literally sent to them just because of a block game. what the fuck. like how can some of you not differentiate the content creators over their characters?

and some of you are also forcing this idea of 'the lore should be better made or fixed' when these ccs were literally doing it fr fun, they had no degree on acting, they arent english majors, not all of them have experience in making detailed and well-rounded storyies, they arent a tv shows with a steady plot. they are literally just friends messing around on a server. cut them some slack. not everything has to be so planned/well made.

so obviously some people do want to do lore, and have, or had the drive before, but because every little thing they do, like just having fun or messing around the smp, or doing their own thing (which was the whole purpose of it btw, just fr friends to hangout) and when they interact with the 'precious builds/characters/mobs' of the server, they get shat on and cancelled on twitter like theyre fucking monsters

its a block game for fucks sake, and some of you are acting like they killed people in real life. its ridiculous and unhealthy.

and now some of you ask why the older ccs dont play on the server anymore

maybe ask yourself again that after rewatching the bullshit, negativity and hate some of these ccs have encountered just from twitter or obsessive lore heads when some of you would deem them 'horrible people or villains' just cz they messed with pixels on the smp and then try to cancel them over a block game

theyve lost their drive because of all the pressure some of you put unto the lore, making it not fun for them anymore.

idk. at this point i personally may have been so into it, but now i just dont give a fuck about the dsmp lore anymore. i care about the ccs and if they are having fun in what they do, and if they dont, then i dont care about it.

Well, this is it boys. My final character analysis. Dream, Techno, and Tommy. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be skirting the word count here. Thank you to all of you who have been reblogging and liking the posts, it means a lot. That being said, because of the characters I’m going to be talking about and the weird split between Techno and Tommy viewers, I want to remind everyone that below are my own opinions and analyses. You are entitled to your own opinion. Well, let’s get this show on the road!

Dream:

One of the best things about the server is that there are no black and white characters. There are no good or evil, but verying degrees of gray. That said, Dream’s pretty close to black; he’s the closest we get to a main villain throughout the story. Dream’s been the underlying antagonist for a while, but I feel he’s taken a bigger role in this season. As far as I can tell, Dream’s got two motives: bringing the server together as one big family with no factions who he definitely doesn’t control, and prolonging the conflict with Tommy. Tommy is entertainment to him. Dream doesn’t want to give up the disks because then the story, Tommy’s story will end. I’m in the camp of beleiveing that if the disks return to Tommy, the plot line will essentially be over. Dream doesn’t want to part with his plaything just yet, but he can’t kill him either. After all, what happy family goes around killing its members? Horrible punishments? No! But emotional manipulation, is fine. That doesn’t just apply to Tommy: Dream manipulated Tubbo, Eret, Techno (to an extent. There’s a favor floating around still) among others. I think, if Tommy wins, Dream will be forced to either find a new plaything (I personally think Tubbo. L’Manburg is kind of Tubbo’s ‘disks’ in a way. Oh, I’m sorry, Snowchester) or he will have to kill Tommy. My speculation for tomorrow is that Tommy and Tubbo will defeat Dream, but Dream will snap and either call on Techno’s favor to in prison Tommy, or will just pull a god thing and kill Tommy outright. But that’s just a theory, a GAM-

Techno:

I’m very much a middle of the road sort of person. I pretty much watched or partially watched everyone’s perspective (from except Phil’s sorry) on Doomsday, and since then I try to catch both Techno’s and Tommy’s when they are streaming. Why do I say this? Well, you’re going to notice that I am not going to make a clear decision on who I support. I’ll try my best to keep these last two as unbiased as possible...

I’ll start by saying that Techno is... strange to me. I can’t tell if I really like his character, or hate it. I’ll begin with the negatives, I think. I don’t like how Techno points to everyone betraying him instantly. Tommy did use him for supplies and shelter and what have you, but something I find people don’t consider is that Techno used Tommy too. Tommy said over and over he wasn’t going to blow up L’Manburg, and time and time again Techno brushed Tommy aside. Techno forced Tommy to choose between a lifelong friend who’d made a mistake and been manipulated, and someone who barely deigned themselves to respect him. I saw people were really surprised by Tommy choosing Tubbo, but... was it all that unexpected. That’s not to say Techno was unjustified. He did extend his hand to Tommy, only for it to be batted away, and maybe he meant well, but he was kind of an ass to Tommy. It wasn’t manipulation like Dream did, but he did use Tommy to help him gather supplies and get into L’Manburg and what have you. I guess the real thing that defines the dislike side of things is that Techno really doesn’t try to see from other’s perspectives. He tends to take a ‘my way or the high way’ approach. Also... I don’t really know how to feel about the syndicate. I can’t tell as of yet if it is truly as open as Techno made it out to be.

Alright, Techno’s good things. A lot of Techno’s actions were justified. I feel like L’Manburg waaaaay overreacted, and Techno’s anger was extremely justified. L’Manburg, for all of its good intentions, was corrupt. It needed to fall. (The builder in me would have just preferred a coup or disbandment or something, not a chunk error, but I guess what happens happens not like you can fix anything now.) I still think Technos story will continue beyond this season. He’s still got people he needs to take down. I don’t think Tommy’s on that list actually. I mean... he didn’t kill him on sight today, and he let Tommy say goodbye so...? Either way, there are still people that need to be taken down. I feel kind of bad for Eret tbh. It’s gonna be a bumpy road for him, even if he means well. Techno also was right to be angry at Tommy. They betrayed each other, in a way. Their alliance was as doomed as L’Manburg.

Tommy:

Our protagonist. Our ‘hero.’

Like Techno, I feel there are good and bad things to be said about Tommy’s character. Unlike Techno, Tommy’s character both changed and didn’t change at the same time. I noticed a lot of people saying that ‘Tommy is so immature,’ or ‘why doesn’t he just give up the disks he didn’t change at all,’ or whatnot. My response to this is: Tommy did not have a chance to develop. He spent the season being tormented by Dream, then dragged into the anarchists where he didn’t really have a say. Why did he ‘betray’ Techno? It was all Tommy knew. He’d been betrayed over and over again himself. Tommy, for so, so long, did not experience any sort of support. Tubbo exiled him, Dream nearly destroyed him, Techno didn’t listen, and Tommy? Tommy didn’t know what to think because not once did anyone care about what he had to say, until it was much too late.

For of all his stagnation though... Tommy did change. And it all comes down to one line. “The disks are more important then you ever were.” I’m that moment, Tommy realized that somewhere in exile, or somewhere in the tundra, he’d lost some sort of humanity. In the same way that Quackity realized how much like Schlatt he was, Tommy realized how blind he’d been by his want of the disks. He was willing to give up his own best friend for material wealth. He betrayed Techno because he realized that Tubbo was more important. Ever since then, Tommy has been a bit more attentive to other people. He apologizes to Tubbo and Connor. He offers IOU’s to people, which doesn’t seem like a big deal, but would old Tommy have done that? But then, why continue to go after the disks? Well, something changed in that motive to. Before, Tommy wanted the disks back because, “The disks were mine and he stole them from me.” He wanted them back because having them stolen was an insult that needed repaying. Now though, I think Tommy wants them back because he truly believes that it would solve conflict. He doesn’t want them back for himself anymore, he wants them back because that’s the only way to achieve peace. Whether that is true or not, I can’t say. I also saw a lot of people wondering ‘why the disks. Why were they so important to him in the first place?’ The disks represent the good old days. When it was just a server playing Minecraft. Before L’Manburg and Techno and Wilbur and hto dog vans and exiles, before everything. That’s why they are so important to him. They represent memories. Peace. Happiness Tommy hasn’t felt since then. It’s why it’s so hard for him to let them go. Letting them go would be letting the memories go; letting the people attached to those memories go. Tommy is trapped in the past. I by no means support the obsession, nor do I find it justifiable... but it is understandable.

Let’s see... I already touched on why Tommy left Techno... so let’s finish off with some interesting things that Tommy has learned. As awful as Dream was to him, Tommy learned somthing very important from him. Sentiment is a weapon and a bargaining chip. He secures Sapnap’s Loyalty by returning Mars, Sapnap’s ‘disks’, an item of sentiment to him. I also think of the pair, Tommy is better equipped to let L’Manburg fade then Tubbo. If Tommy succeeds, I wonder what will happen. And does loosing mean dying. Tommy thinks it does, but loosing to Dream could mean many different things. The battle tomorrow will not be so straightforward as Tommy seems to think. We wait with bated breath. For some dark levity at the end of it all. If Tommy wins, Niki’s gonna off ‘im anyway so...

Regarding canon!Techon, VoS!Techno, and anarchy

Someone told me the way Techno’s anarchy ideals were presented in Chapter 34 of Valley of Serenity (wherein he admitted “I can want anarchy to be the predominant reality because it benefits me the most while also understanding that it would not be the best thing for most other people”) were, to quote - “All wrong here. Have you watched any of the syndicate streams? Cuz its clear techno actually believes in anarchy and that it's good for people. I understand he's missing some of the development from post pogtopia to the syndicate due to this being canon divergent, but that doesn't change the fact he's always actually believed in his anarchist ideals.”

Now, while I hadn’t considered this specifically before writing the chapter, I had considered enough of the factors surrounding Techno’s characterization in both canon and Valley of Serenity to respond with this:

Ironically, Techno's lore streams are the only ones that I've consistently watched. He's literally the only person where I've watched every bit of lore he's streamed.

And I came to this mindset for Techno in this fic specifically because I believe the events after Nov 16 in canon, of the Butcher Army, the Community House debacle with Tommy betraying him, and Doomsday were huge influences in how much he believes in the good of anarchy for the common person. Remember, he was willing to retire and let go of the whole anarchy thing to live in peace for a while, after seeing the disaster that was Nov 16th. It's only after S2 he starts gathering up people to form the Syndicate, committing fully to his ideology. Before he was content to chill in the Arctic with Phil.

With this background I have three points of contention to make-

Firstly, something I've always found interesting about Techno's character is how his anarchy thing might clash with the people he cares about. More specifically, I always wondered "if Techno was forced to choose between upholding anarchy and Phil, who or what would he choose?" Post Season 2 Techno I'm unsure of, but given the limited amount of lore from Season 1 about Techno I'm going off of to build his character, I'm writing his character arc in this fic to be him coming to the realization that he cares more about his family's wellbeing more than he does anarchy or upholding his whole blood god thing. It's a realization that Techno would have needed to spend months with his family again, living with them, to make and have him commit to. Techno back in Nov 16 would have been unsure what he would have picked.

Secondly, we don't have confirmation about where Techno got his anarchist ideals from, which is important because motivation is important. We know at this point in canon he strongly believes in them for real, but we're not given backstory on why that it. There's hints and theories, some of which are far more plausible than others - I've chosen to set the root of his anarchy belief in what he says in this chapter - governments are the only ones strong enough to take him down as an organized group of power. Governments have tried to take him down and nearly succeeded - that's what the Butcher Army was. That event was what brought him out of retirement to turn L'Manberg into L'Hole. And Techno in canon is reinforced in the belief that anarchy's best for everyone because of what it did to Phil and Tommy. He sees how both of them were hurt by L'Manberg's system of power, something that once again Techno in this fic didn't experience. We don't know what's happened in his backstory to make him stand on his anarchy thing, but that also means we don't know how easily Pogtopia Techno would have been convinced to give up on it. He believes it, but why and how much? I've made my choice of interpretation in this fic precisely because we don't know, and his canon decision to go into retirement was what influenced my writing here. I genuinely believe if L'Manberg hadn't attacked in, but instead turned out to be a functioning government like they could have been, his anarchy spiel about bad government is for at least other people, if not himself, would have subsided. But that's not the sort of plot that runs a livestream, is it?

Thirdly - and this ties into point 2 - probably at some point in canon Techno's past government has wronged him and he's seen government repeatedly wrong other people, hence his beliefs that again, the Butcher Army and New L'Manberg under Tubbo only strengthened when it had the chance to subside them. You could even draw allusions back to his skyblock series and take the quote "If skyblock has told me anything, it is that if you have a problem, the answer is slavery" to mean that he's seen the governmentally structured system of skyblock drag its players into an endless, pointless competing grind whilst also committing mass slave-related atrocities, which would be one of the more plausible backstories for Techno and explain where his anarchy ideals might have developed. But we're still operating canon Techno under the rules of the Dream SMP, and the Dream SMP's world is very much not the world presented in Valley of Serenity.

See, my decision - very conscious, deliberate, developed decision - to worldbuild Valley of Serenity in a way that's more akin to a fantasy world in the midst of their equivalent of the Age of Exploration instead of modeling it off how the Dream SMP worlds has definitely also influenced the way I plan the character developments in this fic. Valley of Serenity's world has nations, economies, established ethnic groups and populations and cultures and systems and thousands of years worth of history. L'Manberg started out as a city-state with some surrounding farmland area that had its own history and a decently sized population before Wilbur got there. The Dream SMP canon, meanwhile, has none of that established. You could argue there were civilians on the sideline that just aren't named, or that the Twitch viewers are just civilian in this world because Wilbur did the whole election thing (something that becomes increasingly unlikely each time a new streamer canonizes their stream chat as something that is decidedly not a country's population), but there's no canonical establishment for any of that. I don't think there is any hidden population of nameless background people in the DSMP lore. The lore makes far more sense without it, even with all the "political" drama. It would explain how people keep forming and abandoning and destroying new countries every other week and just.. getting away with it, and how Dream is able to spend so much time obsessing over one child in exile if he really has a country he's supposed to be the shadowmaster of, and how the whole clusterfuck of the Quackity Karl Sapnap marriage is even possible.

In a world like that, it's plausible for Techno's anarchy to be defensible to him, and to the other members of the Syndicate. However, in Valley of Serenity's world, his anarchy view makes absolutely zero sense, given how government is basically a natural result of humans settlings down to farm in large groups together. Most of DSMP's people can decide to just quit and wander off to live alone for the rest of their lives, no problem, but in a world like VoS or the real world? They are very fucked and so stay in large groups, which then, as history shows, results in some authority being assigned to a group of people to administrate things once the group becomes large enough... and boom. Government, and the start of civilization.

The only way for Techno in Valley of Serenity's universe to plausibly believe in the government stuff, especially after all those talks he had with Wilbur about L'Manberg, would be for me to write him as a completely idiot who's utterly unaware of how governments actually work.

If there's one thing I hate it's writing Techno as an idiot. The same Techno who dominated MCM and Skyblock and prepared for weeks for battle against L'Manberg and managed to successfully build a hidden piston door concealing wither skulls and had the foresight to write a will with "instructions" for Phil because he knew the prison was likely a trap and who has enough battle strategy to defeat Dream and also know not to trust him and thought up contingency plans to escape the Butcher army with the totems and who regularly makes the most intelligent, witty, sarcastic and well-timed remarks with dialogue - Techno is not an idiot. He is far, far from it. In the DSMP universe his anarchy ideals would be defended. In VoS'? Absolutely not. And if Techno has any amount of sense at all in this universe, which he does, he knows it too. I made a choice when I wrote this fic's world the way I did, and I'm am committed to seeing the choice through. Part of the reason why I did it? It was because I wanted to explore the way events like L'Manberg and Pogtopia would have affected the characters in their beliefs and trauma in a realistic setting of war and rebellion and political battles, and DSMP's world was just not a good conduit for that. Places like Sanctuary and arcs like Tubbo's struggles back in L'Manberg wouldn't be able to exist if I didn't go down this route, note to mention how wrong it felt to me to write Wilbur's presidency heavily affecting him when the people he's presiding over is just his friends. Everything would have felt cheaper, faker, more simulated if it had been in a world with Minecraft and DSMP rules. I knew this would require some reinterpretation of certain characters' motivations, but it was worth it to me to give their recovery a sense of weight and realism I felt the DSMP world wouldn't have been able to deliver. This has also definitely influenced Techno's priorities and nudged him towards the path of conscious realization about his anarchy thing here, though it's not a point because it doesn't factor too much into the relevant mentality of Techno's character in terms of how much he believes in the anarchy thing.

I remember walking into the house, looking at my mangled face in the mirror, and thinking, "Huh, maybe I do need to go to the hospital," and a few fragments of walking to the car, and then (according to my wife) I lost all memory of the previous two months for about half an hour, and kept asking her where I was and why my head hurt. My next memory is of us getting out of the car at the hospital, and being descended upon by nurses. I think the wisdom teeth may actually have been worse pain-wise, because I was in shock for a lot of the worst of the bike accident, but the bike accident involved more area (I also wrenched a toe and fucked up both hands) and took longer to recover from. STAR is someone whose biggest trait lies in her escapist fantasies. She learns languages, makes up worlds, creates creatures and fake situations in her head just to live closer to the reality she desperatly wishes to be in. She's already taken great strides in her autonomy by taking time to enjoy nature and taking long walks in and out of school. She spends most of her time exploring, and since she's started to spend more time outside, she's been smiling way, way more. Her previous persona was a broody, silent traveler, with a dark cape full of the night's mysteries. She didn't speak, didn't really have time for people. She felt angry and resentful and preferred to spend time on her own. She'd make some small jabs at them under her breath. She wasn't very approachable, but she did look absolutely badass. Now, she's opened up her face and she's always smiling. She's taken to being polite in class but she's stubbornly refusing to listen at the teachers anyways. She spends all her time daydreaming and doodling, or occasionally, writing about foreign worlds. She's become more candid and unabashedly herself, she'll laugh at the sky and smile at the rain, and even if people don't care for her much now that the mystery is over, she's happy being on her own and cannot wait to go on an adventure for real. She's had a few thinking sessions and realized she loved adventure more than anything else, so now that her parents are thinking of letting her stay away for a while so they can pay the rent better, she doesn't even pretend to be sad, and her biggest concern is whether or not she should take her dear plushies with her on her trip.

ÉLOANE, commonly mistaken as --and almost officially renamed -- "Solveig" since nobody can pronounce her birth name properly, is more of a hothead, definitely more brash, but unmistakenly someone fun to be around. She's got tons of energy, which she's trying to apply to woo everyone else around her. She loves making others laugh, making friends, and running around town showing off her latest goofy exploit -- especially to those cute girls with the most adorable laugh are involved, whereas she's guaranteed to go all in to try to impress them. She's never been this way before, though. She's never taken to the lesbian label and always described herself as bisexual, but that was admittedly back when she had her hair long and straight at her side and her face was grim and her eyes were heavy. She used to be all about looking serious, but, well, that's over now. She's still seeing herself as the rude, judgemental teen she used to be -- with the same chic clothing, the same powerful but terrifying aura, the same quiet knowledge, and silent threat she used to have. Even after trading this look with a more fun and giddy personality, she still finds it hard to part with certain things she used to believe she was, notably to admit that her latest crush is NOT the kind of girls she's into, and it's not that the brunette is bad -- cute nerds with short hair and glasses that make the cutest sound when they clink together -- she's really stuck in her ways. She's honestly very rigid, she'll tell you that herself. She's learned to laugh at herself since she learned most of her bad habits come from whatever garbage her mother fed her and called it parenting soup since she's been a baby, and it's not really been a fun ride since then. After ditching the bisexual label with great remorse, she decided to ditch her parents too. Now she takes to creating, creating, creating. She's rediscovering herself, and she's angrier, fiestier, and stabler than she's ever been. She just wishes she had someone at her side to share the story with.

ACACIA is someone who likes dark rooms and steamy tea and also those little fish eggs she would totally eat all the time if she had enough money to buy them in tons. It's for the mood, though. She's quiet, sad, and not always by choice but because she's depressed as the fish whose eggs got taken away to make that dish she feels guilty for eating. Which id also the second reason she dosn't eat a lot of it. Biology textbooks taught her a lot about the animal kingdom, and it's also given her more stuff to cry about, so that's lovely. She's always reading, and she doesn't know why, except she thinks it's great. She'll probably say something like "I want to survive" and never know what that even means. She does know some stuff, though -- that she's totally rad with glasses, that her hair really doesn't curl, and that's okay, and that short hair is colder but at least it's not as sticky anymore when she works out, right? She hasn't been doing much with herself other than finding something else to be than depressed. She's been sad and hurting for over a year now, and it's been a long trek from then to now. She's trying to redisvover colored clothing, but she can't figure out which ones she likes. She's currently obsessing over the idea that if she uses fabric someone else likes, she'll steal their gimmick and they'll be emotionally ruined forever and she'll also die for some reason, so she's decided to hide in her room and never confirm to her parents that she needs glasses until she can figure out if she likes the color. She prefers contact lenses anyways, but since they're useless in the forest, she's supposed to find some. So she's currently trying to find out how to choose a color scheme that works -- and also how to pick good berries, and good food, and how to hunt, and also feneral physics and math because screw everything, she's a sucker for knowledge. She's somehow managed to find the self-esteem necessary to be the nerd she always wished to be, and she's acing it. She worries she comes off as rude, and she might, but honestly? She'd rather be rude but useful than to feel like she didn't help anyone in her life, so she's searching and searching like her life depends on it. Which it just might. She hates being bad at something, ans also being called a perfectionnist, but she never knew why until... Well, you'll figure it out. Oh, and she's also gay, because she's been doing research and graphs since last year and she can tell you exactly what attraction she feels and when in the day she feels most giddy when meeting the cute redhead at school. But she's not going to have fun figuring out if she likes her back, though.

ANGÉLIQUE does not care about anything other than what's necessary. She's been surviving since forever ago and she knows eveything. She also hates everything and she also loves people so she's stuck caring for three idiots that she loves but also hopes don't hate her and the firest sucks and her life sucks and at least she's away so whatever. Also she figured out a way to pee in a can and reuse the water for later with some kind of mechanism that makes it pure again. Don't ask her how it works though. She's always pissed whenever people question her techniques, be it that or throwing knives at squirrels to hunt them. It does work somehow, so that's that, but she's honeslty just a big sucker for drama and she loves the aesthetic of throwing knives and peeing in a can. Also, she broke her arm and thought it would be dramatic to put it back together herself with a bandage. It wasn't too bad, but that's probably because she was dissociating too hard to feel anything other than hysteria at that moment. She's a lot more like Star than she'll admit, although she swears they're different because drama. All her life is drama gone bad, but also gone good, since, well, it works, you know? Even with knwoing absolutely Nothing ™ on survival, she managed to survive by remembering Minecraft and hoping for the best. Yes, don't tell anyone she plays Minecraft. She still misses her cow farm. So I got bored, and being the Mystic Messenger obsessed game addict that I am, my mind wandered to wondering what sorts of video games the RFA would play, like types or genres and some examples (aside from LOLOL in Yoosung’s case of course lol), which led to making this headcanon post. Saints Row, especially Saints Row IV, cuz that one has hacking elements, and you get superpowers, and you gotta save people and shit. Sounds great for the Defender of Justice, no? The comedy and great music selection is a bonus, really c:

As for being a jackass… Be cautious if you invite him to play Mario Party with you.

He will purposely aim for the Chance Time spaces just to watch everyone else freak out about it, and he will aim for stealing your stars and often succeeds

He’s also really fuckin’ good at Mario Kart. Do not challenge him unless you like being hit by blue shells and other such items

Also, Battleblock Theater. Great puzzle platformer, good humor, and in co-op mode, a great chance to be an ass!! Much to Yoosung’s dismay lol

They probably play casual card games like Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Hearts, etc on their phone to pass time

And they come across as a decent strategist to me, considering their job

And card games tend to focus very heavily on strategy

So card-based games like Shadowverse and (don’t laugh) Yu-Gi-Oh and such are probably up their alley

They’d also be really good tactical games like Disgaea

But for the most part they just favor those simple card games like Solitaire. They have too much to do to focus on other such games

I don’t know if I’m unstable or just tired but I do know I’m trying not to cry over some careless comments at fucking 3am.

So full story, starting from the top. The Steven Universe movie came out, I have seen it Z hasn’t because he doesn’t get internet until Monday and we’re both v impatient about this fact because we are big nerds and he wants to see it and I want him to see it so we can talk about it and whatever. Standard couple things. I also have the music to the movie stuck in my head and I’m hoping that fangirling with him over it will help get it unstuck.

So at a more acceptable hour than this, I text him (full, character for character text): I want you to have internet so you can watch the Steven universe movie because the songs are stuck in my head and you won’t appreciate that fact properly until you watch the movie :(

[EDIT: I realize that giving you the next paragraph is biasing you to my opinion and view so here is the entire conversation so you can make your own opinions and then hopefully help me figure out my own shit. So it was that text up top then:

The last line is in there because I have a habit of listening to a musical and doing nothing but listen to the soundtrack on loop for the next couple of months. It’s also just an absolute banger. So the last line is there because until he watches the movie, I can’t tell him WHAT songs are stuck in my head or WHY because it is very likely to just be the Musical Effect regardless of actual song quality but it isn’t ENTIRELY that but I can’t tell him this because SPOILERS. Because yes, the fact that the soundtrack fucking goes hard is a spoiler because it’s something you need to just experience to get the full effect. So I sent what I sent and thing nothing of it because at the end of the day, I’m looking for a “mood” or “soon” or “well I’ll make sure I tell you when I watch it then” or whatever. My phone battery is dying so I plug it in an proceed to forget about it until now because it’s on silent and I’m playing Minecraft and again, I just wanted to throw it out there with not a lot of response if one at all because he just might be asleep.

Instead, I get back (and only read now which is probably why it suddenly became cry worthy in my head): So you choose to taunt me about it?

Which... Ow. There is no way in my head that I can read that line where it isn’t aggressive and antagonistic. It’s angry.

Which, fair, I appreciate the apology but that doesn’t change how I’m now feeling hurt because hell yeah that was harsh and if you understand that, why did you still send it? So the apology is nice but it does nothing to stop the fact that I feel like I’m slapped in the face and I’m also now deeply offended by the idea that my boyfriend, the person I love more than anything and I’ve been with for over a year, would think that I would ever do or say anything that wasn’t backed by love and care. I’m hurt that he could think I could be that cruel and insensitive. Don’t I get the benefit of the doubt? Have I not made it clear that I never want to approach with malice or aggression or anything but love in my heart for him? Have I not expressed my own desire to not hurt him? Have I not shown my anguish over hurting him when I do? .... Okay that last one, I know I haven’t done because the scale of that on my end just makes it into a “woe is me” kind of deflection of the fact that I hurt him and that isn’t what I want to do because his feelings are valid and I want to respect that above all else. BUT STILL. Is it wrong for me to have assumed that the person I care deeply for would know that I meant no ill will?

The feeling of being hurt is also slowly shifting to anger because he absolutely has done similar things in the past. There’s been so many half stories of things that happens in shows or podcasts or books that have been stopped with a “no, you’ll see when you [consume the media].” There have also been jokes half finished because he realizes part way through that I’m not going to get it until I consume the media and he says as such. Sometimes it’s just “I want to tell you x but I can’t until you y”. He’s gone,”Ugh, you just have to watch it it’s so good” and “oh my god, you’ll understand it when you read it” and so many other things that are the equivalent of “You won’t appreciate this how I want you to because you haven’t consumed the media”. And I knew it came out of places of excitement and love regardless of the tone because WE HAD PLANS FOR ME TO SEE IT. JUST LIKE HE PLANS TO SEE THE STEVEN UNIVERSE MOVIE. So now I’m also hurt because it feels like a double standard and I just... I don’t know if I’m blowing this out of proportion or if he’s blowing this out of proportion but just.... Idk. I’m upset and frustrated and I wanted to sleep but now I can’t because of this stupid thing. 

I just... I want to be able to talk to him and not have to second guess my every word. I don’t feel like it’s that far of a stretch to want a partner who understands that we are both coming from a place of unconditional love. I don’t want to have to walk on eggshells around him because now I’m aware of the fact that apparently my words are only good at face value and none of our history sits behind them. Sure, call me out if I say something careless but there doesn’t have to be that much aggression and anger involved. Unless something I said or did is super careless and results in me crossing a line, there shouldn’t be any need to lash out like that. The fact that that was his reaction... I’m upset. And I don’t know if I need to be upset with him for not having more trust in me or upset with myself for not showing him that he can trust me to that extent... I don’t know. I’m tired.

More Praise of DC Gene Yang

I finally got my hands on the second volume collection of Superman's Adventures. At least the ones that were penned under Gene yang. I have to be honest I think choosing Vandal Savage as the big bad was much more appropriate. He's human enough so that it doesn't feel like we're getting a cosmic space flea from nowhere. And he ties into things that I think work very well with Gene's work. Particularly how Humanity's drive for ambition and to create Perfection and virtue can all too often Peter into cruelty and abuse.

It also creates a more appropriate theme between Clark, godhood, and of course the villain. In short we get an examination of ambition without necessarily vilifying ambition. We see why it always comes to a negative end point for both Clark's own sense of justice and why we ourselves would oppose it. These are things that Gene explored in a previous work that naturally he got to do much more coherently, The Shadow Hero.  there he is taking a version of a golden age superhero and putting him in a knockoff version of The Golden Era of the Detective Comics with lots of social commentary. Okay there are also elements of Marvel and the strips  and the character that he's Reinventing originally came from the House of Ideas. One aspect that he's always negotiated with, at least since American Born Chinese, is the fact that the very culture that he's a part of comes with a sense of conflict. He has a Heritage that very much interest him but also is in conflict with the ideals that he wants to live up to. Of course this also ties into the whole broken father figures thing.

The idea that Vandal Savage is in fact a hidden chosen one who has sponsored the Arts and society and ultimately wants to create the strongest Clan seems very romantic. Hell in this Game of Thrones world it even seems like something you would want to do. Who doesn't like to build their own faction and Kingdom Civilization and Minecraft say not enough that pandering the the illusion won't make you a millionaire? But we also see there's a reason why as a whole we try to move away from that.

Simply put even before we invented democracy as the Americans practice it or whatever no one liked being subjugated to a distant figure who basically will do everything that they wanted. In short his villains always seem to be a variation on a Fallen Hero and they always have a sense of connection with the hero but it's more deeper than them necessarily being father and son. It's more along the lines of he starts with a crisis or problem and then has two men react in two different ways to it. We even see why the first was seduced, the person that will ultimately end up on a bad path. There's usually some good attached to it as well.  And certainly power and strength.

But inevitably because the path is based on self satisfaction it's all going to fall apart in a terrible way. Vandal Savage is pretty good for this, particularly as Lex Luthor in some ways has become too cuddly. Let's face it if you could be a bald, fit, superjeenius who employed millions and got to be an a****** because you were an expert at everything well I mean that's practically the protagonist of like 4 out of 7 TV dramas right now. Fuck it IS memetic Iron Man!!! Likely always has been an ideal.

Unfortunately then we run into the fact that comic book publishing even when you have one major author is so dominated by events and weirdness that even in this one collection there are enormous gaps in the story. However he's often able to do a pretty damn good short. Such as the use of Fight Club in order to keep the gods sustained on a ritualized form of worship and belief.

I mean I've always come to him for his sort of magical realism urban fantasy style trappings. Wee get right down to it you can't talk that without thinking superheroes and one way or the other. Being the children of pulps and many ways the modern language of how we deal with such Myths among us (USA USA, I know Europe and Britain does it different). I mean let's face it and this one he had effectively a secret Shadow Emperor have his sons and daughters attain power from the sky and then decide what to do with it. That is a freakin maxi-series right there!!!  Likely start of a franchise.  Why didn't he bottle this idea into a set of novels and webpublish!!

Hey as a result of Vandal Savage's takeover attempt did any of his suddenly empowered children ever decide that they were going to fight for Humanity instead of prove that they were part of the strongest Clan for Daddy? Also I'm not sure, intentional or not or maybe he just had a very strong editorial mandate, but i like the fact that he kept one characterization I always heard about Vandal Savage. His rhetoric and intellect may increase but at the end of the day he's still that disgusting barbaric caveman obsessed with being the strongest and the center of the world. .

This always ends up proving why Vandal should never try to make himself a leader. But he always ends up being so or a shadow before 1. He just can't seem to resist acting brutally in an act of self rationalized pettiness and cruelty and amusement. I do like however that he always does this in light of a very palpable Injustice or ignorance. Again he sees the same or similar problem but he uses the solution in the most cynical and authoritarian way and not because of genuine sense of law but it's always an excuse for self-aggrandizing.

And while Gene yang did alter vandals origin, I think he did it in a way that makes sense. Vandal is not bad because he's a caveman. He's bad because he refuses to accept anything outside of himself having authority over him. I also like how he writes Superman as flawed if only in a narrative sense because while he does mean well you can easily see that Clark does have something of a paternalistic complex and loves to avoid issues. He gets condemnative and annoyed with Lois for revealing his secret to the point that he can't forgive her despite the fact the circumstances were nowhere near as simple as he starts to remember them. This is contrasted with Superman's own relationship with Steve Trevor. He ends up craving power in order to fill a sense of validation. And he often is avoided reflection of his own negative character traits and flaws. Despite the fact that he really really loves being powerful and righteous and praised and looked up to. I love the fact that he feels this temptation. Because it feels like a very American one and Superman is a very American superhero Which was the nice touch. Gene always seems to remember the human element. How cool is it that Clark basically got bro manced by a fallen Sun Daddy?

But again I guess if you only read one sentence I want to ask did any of the children of Vandal Savage when they were empowered by the comet end up being well a decent person? Obviously when you're suddenly drunk on a high of super Juice from the sky and a guy appears and says hey want to keep this High going beat up Superman I can totally get why you get on that s***. But you got to wonder where there's some people who are all like you know what yeah I've heard this picture before it sucks thanks for the powers dad I'm going to go fight for the people I actually believe in
