I've been real absent online the last couple of months, but I can't miss out on @iwtvfanevents 'a meal to remember' because we are so incredibly blessed with beautifully creative and talented people in this fandom who constantly inspire and allow me to forever-wander in the world of Louis de Pointe du Lac, my most darling and favorite character ❤️ this won't be nearly as organized as I'd like it to be, won't say all I want to say, and I will inevitably miss somebody and/or some fic, but just know that there is so much wonderful content out there, especially by so many of the people on this list that anyone can check out at any point:

'nine months' is a wip in the same verse and just as stunning. it's no surprise it's amazing; it's toni and it's bri, two people shining with so much talent it's blinding. and their powers combined?? oh my god. Hiii, I do not! The art archives/little comics and doodles show the Character Foundations i guess, i think people Know from following me bc i ramble in tags a lot...i have a tag for oc text but i also wouldnt recommend it for learning about Talon specifically since he's changed so much already since his inception and many old posts in that tag are not applicable anymore (like this one probably wont be).

Dis is also why I can't feel comfortable making an easy to find character bio that some people will maybe only ever read once and have that solidified in their brain regardless of updates ! He's my newest oc so he's always changing and there's lots of empty plot in the timeline left to fill in, too.

Oh man. I said in some recent comment replies that I'd take a look at the latest chapter-in-progress and maybe update again soon… but I got drawn away by other WIPs so sorry to anyone who got their hopes up. 😬

But yeah, I started Under Control thinking it would be fun to have a Telltale batjokes ongoing that was literally just porn to be updated at my leisure. I can't remember exactly why I decided it would be a post-S1 AU where John worked at Wayne Enterprises, as opposed to him and Bruce just fucking around married at the manor or something, but obviously the boss/employee power imbalance kink adds a delightful dimension. And, to be totally honest, I'm sure I was encouraged to go that way with how weird people are about morality in smutfic these days. I love me some Telltale fluff and have written quite a bit of it myself, but it's also valid to write about the screwed up aspects of Bruce and John's interactions. And so I have!

Actual plot has crept in, because my brain cannot allow for anything else, and it will naturally revolve around Bruce coming to terms with how much John likes him and his own growing feelings for John. That said, I typed a rule at the top of the Google doc that there will be porn in every chapter, no matter what happens, no matter how inadvisable. I started this as smut and am committed to it being smut. And Bruce will continue being mean to John sometimes, because John is into it. 😂

But again, I'm not guaranteeing that it will be finished one day. The brain latches onto what it latches onto, and only time will tell.

With all of the different stories that you have going on, how do you pick which one to focus on?

Oh wow, thank you so much! This was so lovely to see! It's always nice to hear that people enjoy your work! The funny thing is that in my heart, I consider myself a one-shot fic writer because I used to never post multi-chapter things, but it's probably time to accept that this is the monster I have become now that I write such long things due to my inability to just exorcise the demon of whatever idea nugget is in there without backstory and plot and all the other things that cause my WIP count to balloon.

The final chapter of can't fake what you can't break up with is a third of the way done (though, of course, not in order). The rate-limiting step really is this one scene that I just need to write because I'm fairly sure that everything after that will be much easier to write, but for whatever reason I keep not writing it but also not writing around it either. And in the time that I've been doing this, the path to the ending has sort of...expanded a little to include another scene that I didn't think about adding before. So the long short answer is that I don't quite know when I will post it (hopefully soon-ish? the story is still in winter and we are now heading towards fall in real life!), but for the sake of my sanity, when I do post it, it 100% has to be the end because if I extend this thing yet again, it'll be a never-ending winter and there are simply not enough months in the season for that!

I wish there was a more interesting answer as to how I pick what to work on, but it really boils down to whether one of them has ongoing momentum like a freight train (I felt that a bit for that on and off again (and on again) and deliriously for the first few chapters of can't fake what you can't break up with that lead me to think I'd bang that out in a month) or if I suddenly have a flash of knowing exactly what I want to write. (Usually it'll be a line or scene that pops into my head that is perfect for it and then I'll write my way to that scene.) But there are other WIPs that are fully plotted out in my head that I can't seem to finish right now simply because my brain doesn't want to put it into words just yet (definitely an indentation in the shape of you - God, someone just pull it out of my brain and put it in a word doc!). Or there are WIPs that born from me avoiding working on another WIP (hello the last few fics I've posted)! I've tried in the past to force myself to work on just one WIP even when I've got ideas for something else that are dying to come out and it's just not as enjoyable. Why limit yourself to the point where your fun hobby feels like a slog that you're not actually getting paid to do? (All that said, it does drive me insane to have unfinished WIPs racking up so basically I'm shooting myself in the foot either way.)

Hello! Yes, sadly The Marriage Stone is famously unfinished nearly 16 years after its original posting, and 9ish years after its last update. There are more chapters on ffnet. 77 actual chapters, and 1 author's note from 2016.

The original author, Josephine Darcy, encountered many issues IRL that led to a hiatus, and in that hiatus, others picked up The Marriage Stone to finish themselves. You can find several "continuations" of the fic by different authors on ffnet; I believe I've also happened upon them on AO3, though never sought them out there.

Josephine Darcy was a bit (understandably) dismayed to see so many continuations of the work she loved and had been unable to complete herself. As of now, it is uncertain whether she will ever actually finish it. It's been over 6 years since her author's note. But I am not one to give up hope!

I'd given a few of the continuations a try back in the day, but never quite had the heart to continue on without Josephine Darcy (though I'll admit to skipping to the last chapter of one that was completed!)

Due to the author's mixed feelings about the continuations (she seems to understand why, and harbors no ill-will towards the creators, though she was obviously negatively impacted by them), I cannot myself go read them. But, if you would like the choice for yourself, I will supply you with what links I can.

The Marriage Stone, by Josephine Darcy: original on ffn. 77 chapters + author's note. Nearly 400k words.

Lynne's AU Ending to the Marriage Stone by lynned0101: ffnet. 69 chapters itself; picked up numbering from The Marriage Stone, so between the two there are 146 chapters. Nearly 500k words for the AU alone. For the two together, you're looking at just under 900k words.

My Tribute to Josephine Darcy's The Marriage Stone by Yengirl (plus coauthor/beta Vine Verrine): ffnet. Ongoing, updated as of January 2022. Might be worth keeping an eye on. Features 44 proper chapters plus an author's note from around the time Josephine Darcy came back. They also picked up the numbering from The Marriage Stone and is currently at 122 combined chapters. Word count for this continuation is just under 300k words. Both together would be under 700k words.

The Yengirl continuation also looks to be on AO3 but with much less available there, so if you were to read it, I'd recommend doing so on ffnet.

It is such a great story and very beloved, at that! I've not often seen fanfics create such a ruckus that fans took such a huge project onto themselves to see it through. (Not that it hasn't happened, just not that I've seen, of course.) It's an old story, but one full of adventure and intrigue and fabulous world building. It is also the reason I fell in love with the Draco/Charlie ship! It is also one of two stories that gave me an aversion to beginning WIPs 😂 This and starcrossed's Nights of Gethsemane series, with its unfinished sequel Release of Sisyphus.

I would tentatively say it's still worth reading, even in its incomplete state, but that might be nostalgia talking. Maybe I think it's worth knowing that part of Snarry history. Maybe it is just that good. I'm a nostalgic lady myself, so I make no promises! But there is at least an existing, complete version if you would like to give it a try.

And wherever Josephine Darcy is, and whatever she is doing, I hope we can all take a moment to wish her well, and hope that these past few years have been much kinder to her. And I do hope that, one day, she will be able to finish this story she put so much time, effort, and love into. But even if she doesn't, I hope she knows how meaningful and impactful this story has been to so many people. 💛

I know that my writing speed has slowed down since returning to work, and my recent medication changes have made it difficult for me to get into writing mode. I sometimes miss my manic/medical leave 2k-4k a day posting sprees, but romanticizing mania is b a d.

Lol, my point is, I know I'm not posting as frequently as I used to, or as frequently as I want to. I'm trying to be kind to myself, and I know pushing myself will make the adhd brain say NO altogether. That's why I've closed requests, so I can work on the ongoing requests and fics, as well as the ones I've got waiting in the wings without getting distracted.

I'll be posting another poll soon on which WIP people would like me to write next, but I'm not including the requests that came in after requests were closed.

Book Backlog Busting Reading Challenge!

The only thing I love more than reading books is buying books. Unfortunately it is a lot easier to buy a book and promise myself I will read it soon than it actually is to read the book soon. As a consequence, I have a lot of unread books on my shelves, some of which have been there for years. So here's the challenge:

I will not be buying any more books until I have read ALL of my backlog, currently standing at 110 books.

Yeah no it really is that many. No I do not have a problem. (Unless the problem is lack of bookshelves. I might have that problem.)

Rules of the challenge!

Books do not have to be completed! If I don't like a book and don't want to finish it, that's okay. As long as an earnest attempt was made.

There is an exception to the "no buying" rule for sequels to books I already own, because honestly, I would just ignore the rule anyway if I needed to read them badly enough, so we will build it in instead.

Being gifted or lent books does not count as "buying" them (although most people don't by me books anyway, because they can't keep track of the ones I own).

Keep people updated on my progress week to week! I will talk a little bit about the books I am reading and give mini reviews if I feel like it, or sometimes just post pictures of my progress.

I gave this challenge an Official Title™ because I thought it might be fun if other people joined in, so reblog this, tag me in your own reading backlog posts, whatever. My own backlog is mainly history and fantasy because that's what I primarily read, but I'd love to see what other people have been putting off for a long ass time!

First up on the list, we have

The Time Traveller's Guide to Regency Britain by Ian Mortimer. Like the others in Mortimer's series, this is a fun and accessible read dealing with a lot of day-to-day questions about clothes, travel, and social etiquette that don't make it into most history books. This one is an existing WIP since I've been getting a lot more into writing Pride and Prejudice fic recently, so I'm already about 50% of the way through.

Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time #6). WoT is one of my partner's favourite series of all time, and after watching and loving season 1 of the amazon adaptation, I finally started reading the series late last year. Favourite characters so far: Nynaeve and Lan. This is partially why a sequel exception was written in.

Queens of the Age of Chivalry by Alison Weir. My unwritten rule of reading is to have one chonker history book ongoing at a time. I didn't study much medieval period at uni, so this is something I've tried to correct on my own time, but a lot of general histories do not go into much depth about individual women - hence my interest in this book.

Nestor starts seeing a girl who is new to town, but what he doesn't know is that her roommate is dating one of the people he dislikes most in the world: Angel Reyes

Untitled Gilly/Tasha Fic (Gilly x OFC): When life with her family in Northern Cali starts to fray at the seams and get messier than she can handle, Tasha packs a bag, gets in her car, and drives to the one person she knows will take her in no matter what: her Uncle Bishop. What was just supposed to be a couple weeks-stay to cool off suddenly becomes much more complex when she meets the men from the MC.

Bloodline OBX Crossover (Gen Fic): After finally managing to get back to the mainland from Poguelandia, JJ brings all of his friends to the only person that he has left anymore, and truly he doesn't even know if the man is still going to know who he is. Lucky for JJ and the Pogues, Danny Rayburn never forgets anyone.

Bad Ideas (Canche x OFC): Bad blood between charters and the aftermath of the shoot-out at the clubhouse means hell for the MC> None of that is really on Lia Reyes's radar when she stops by to check in on her brothers who have gone radio silent. In the midst of all the drama, the last thing she expects is to strike something up with the one person that her brother can't stand, and who can't stand her brothers. It all becomes a waiting game to see how long it takes for her last name to come into play.

Untitled The Bear Fic (Marcus x OFC, Carmy & OFC): Carmy finally broke down and started going to Al-Anon meetings, not expecting to actually get anything out of them, certainly not expecting to make his approximation of a friend. Lucky for him, Ray hasn't ever stopped herself on someone else's account. When bad luck and family troubles bring her to The Beef, she finds Carmy and a whole lot more.

Your Mess (Nacho x F!Reader): Being new to town meant that you had no idea what you were really getting yourself into when you met Nacho and extended an invitation to him. He knew, though. It wasn't long until you both realized why you should've taken the first 'no' he gave you and ran.

For Everything (Happy Lowman x OFC): Everything about the Teller family spells out bad luck, but it doesn't stop Happy from falling into bed with one of them. However, before the curse of the Teller family can catch up to them, ghosts from Happy's past rear their ugly heads first.

Brick by Brick (Opie x OFC): In the aftermath of getting out of prison and finding that his entire family had taken off while he was still behind bars, Opie tries to put the pieces of his life back together again. Despite his better judgment, he allows someone close to help with it all.

There and Back (Nestor x Erin): They only got along because proximity didn't allow otherwise when they were teenagers, but as time went on and everything in life got more complicated, their feelings did too. Both of them promised not to be the type to fall hard and fast, but Erin was the only one who kept her word no matter how many years went by.

Coming to Terms (Rafe x OFC): Despite all the fight that he put up about it, Rafe finds himself drying out and thrown into more therapy sessions than he can keep track of in some rehab center on the mainland. He was determined to fake and lie his way out until he met someone who frustratingly calls him on his shit at every possible turn.

Boxing AU (EZ x OFC): Fresh out of prison and looking for something extra to keep him from going back inside, EZ finds himself walking through the doors of one of the most old-school boxing gyms in Santo Padre. He's expecting a ring, some sparring, a coach who gives him more grief than necessary. What he doesn't expect is the woman who meets him at the door and flips his entire world upside-down.

Against All Odds (Juice x OFC): Juice knows better than to think that getting involved with Jax's younger sister is a good idea. He knows it's not. But as time goes on and tensions start to thicken, it's not enough to stop him. What he wasn't ready for, though, was realizing that their relationship was the least of their problems.

Pieces Into Place (EZ x OFC): College AU. From Stanford all the way to Harvard, EZ has been one-track minded. Always focusing on school and the next step beyond it. When someone comes in and pulls his focus from that, it's a breath of fresh air, at first. But the familiarity of it comes at a cost that EZ isn't ready to pay, and has him putting up walls before he can stop himself.

Tragic (Angel x OFC): EZ going to prison caught everyone off-guard Nothing made sense to Angel, or their childhood best friend. Both of them lost with no one else to turn to, they turn to each other in an attempt to figure it all out.

Figuring It Out (Happy & OFC): Happy showed up to the tattoo shop looking for one particular person to give him one particular tattoo. When that person wasn't there, though, he settled for the young woman who was at the shop. One smiley face later Happy realized he had no say in the matter of having her in his life from then on out.

From The Start (Opie x OFC): Falling for his best friend's little sister hadn't been part of the gameplan, but it was too late to go back on it now. The problem was, that for as good as it all sounded in his head, the reality of who he was dealing with was far harsher than Opie bargained for.

How We Got Here (Coco x OFC): Despite not knowing her his whole life, Coco couldn't remember a time before Daniela Reyes. Pain was what brought the two of them together, but it was also what drove the two of them apart. Coco clung desperately to everything that happened in between, hoping to mend those fences one panel at a time.

Untitled Juice Fic (Juice x OFC): Desperate to get out from under the thumb of the club for a night, Juice finds himself in a bar just outside of town, getting far drunker than he should. The bartender who could have and should have tossed him right out onto the street extended a little kindness instead, unknowingly creating an entire web of secrets for the two of them.

Love Triangle (Carrillo x Reader, Javi x Reader): You hadn't known Javi as long or as well as you'd known Carrillo. You certainly didn't expect that to change as things with you and Carrillo got more serious. However, as things start to disintegrate between you and the Colonel, you start to wonder if there's more to Javi offering you a shoulder to lean on.

Chaos at the Lakehouse (Gen SOA & OC's Fic): Years after everyone had grown up and moved away, the entire crew that had once called Charming its home base all decide to get together again. Everyone is grown with their own families now, and life looks different for everyone, but in a lot of ways they all pick up right where they left off.

One-Shots:

Beautiful Stranger (Bucky x Natasha): After losing Steve, and losing just about everything else, Bucky and Natasha both take off separately, desperate to start over in different corners of the world as people with a little less pain to carry around with them. However, after a lot of time and a lot of moves, they somehow end up on opposite sides of the same bar together and realize that maybe they just aren't supposed to be staying away from each other.

Lovers to Enemies (Carrillo x F!Reader): Things that seem to good to be true, usually are. If anyone was well-acquainted with that fact it was Carrillo. And yet, when you came traipsing into his life, he couldn't help but to hope that he was wrong. But. He wasn't.

Better Than That (Coco x F!Reader): In the aftermath of a messy breakup between you and Angel, you find yourself growing closer to one of the last people you expected.

Teen Caryl AU.  I blame my growing weakness for teen Caryl on this.  Oh.  And those beautiful pictures.  I mean, my God.  Do they look gorgeous together or what?

  It’s really not that complicated 

    He’s been half in love with her since the 3rd grade. 

  Wonder Woman lunchbox in hand, sweet smile on her pink lips, she’d braved all the bullies’ taunts and quietly joined him at his lonely table.  Introduced herself by offering him her small, delicate hand and shrugging off his feigned indifference when he’d just stared at it, plopping down on the plastic seat beside him and crossing her ankles before opening up her lunchbox.  She’d offered up half of her peanut butter and jelly sandwich and her easy friendship, not even blinking those big blue beautiful eyes of hers at the fact that she’d breached that invisible divide with such a simple gesture.  That gulf that existed between being popular and being one of the outcasts. 

  So, yeah.  He’s been half in love with her since the 3rd grade and it’s too bad, really.  Because she’s one of the best friends he’s ever had.  The best friend, actually, and he’s not about to do something stupid like blurt out his true feelings on prom night.  He don’t care that she’s his date or that Glenn and Tara seem to think it’s a good idea.  What do they even know about it anyway?  They’re just a couple of freshman band nerds crashing a party, Eugene and Olivia’s dates because friendship is solidarity and he should know.  Shouldn’t he? 

  Shouldn’t he? 

                                                                                                     The fast song that’s been matching the irrational pounding of his heart morphs into something slow, something sweet that makes Carol sway in her borrowed heels, those long, crazy red curls of hers slithering across her bare back and making him think of a gypsy queen.  Whatever that even is, and shit.  He really shouldn’t have let Merle talk him into that swig of Jim Bean to relax him because he thinks it’s backfiring.  Igniting little sparks all throughout his bloodstream and making his palms itch to touch her, his fingertips ache to trace and map out all those pretty freckles, and Jesus Christ.  He really needs some air. 

  The grass beyond the gymnasium is overgrown.  The trees tall and looming, casting long shadows on the crowded gravel parking lot and shrouding the blanket of stars winking overhead. 

  The music is muted out here, just a hum beneath the crickets’ insistent song, and Daryl welcomes the respite.  The familiarity.  He tears at his knotted tie with fumbling fingers and takes a ragged breath, lets the sultry spring Georgia air swallow him up in her embrace while he wills his heart to calm. 

  Ultimately, it’s as useless an endeavor as trying not to love her.  Impossible.   

  Because he opens his eyes and she’s right there.  Just like that moment all those years ago now.  Just as quietly and just as bravely, she’s sought him out and her painted lips are lifted in a smile, sweet and easy, and hell if he don’t feel guilty for abandoning her back there.  But he don’t have near the courage she does.  Never has and probably never will.  Hell of it is, he’s pretty sure they both know it.  Gruffly, he lets her off the hook.  “Didn’t have to follow me.” 

  “I know.”  Her answer is soft and simple and she steps closer, the sequins on her fitted skirt catching the faint light and shimmering.  She tilts her head and wrinkles her nose, lifting one hand to her shoulder to toy absently with the thin spaghetti strap dark against her pale skin.  Letting the other brush up against his own, warm and hesitant.  “But Every Breath You Take started playing and you know how I feel about that song.” 

  Nodding in understanding, he agrees and shifts on his feet as he searches his pockets for a cigarette, subtly pulling away from her and putting some space between them again.  “Song’s creepy.” 

  “Yeah.”   

  She shudders for effect but she’s still smiling that smile at him, and he forgets all about the cigarette, tucking the unlit stick of tobacco behind one of his ears instead.  Watches her.  Because she’s swaying gently once more, to music only she can hear, and he’s entranced.  His heart racing again and his throat dry and awkward apologies are tumbling from his traitorous lips before he can make half an effort to stop them.  “Ain’t much good at this.”

  “You don’t say.” 

  She’s teasing and he knows it.  But his insecurities run deep and he denies her the smile she’s angling for, the reassurance.  “M’serious.  You deserve better.  Somebody that ain’t so fucked up.  Ain’t even a good friend.” 

  She stumbles to a stop then, her feet rooted to the spot.  Her eyes flash with anger, instant and white hot, and her hands dart out.  Grab the loose ends of the noose she’d begged him to agree to wear and tug.  “You take that back.” 

  He ducks his head, swears beneath his breath when she pulls him closer.  “Which part?” 

  “Every part,” she demands, abandoning his tie to grip his broad shoulders.  Travel up his neck to cup his face.  “You take back all of it.” 

  He refuses.  Can’t even bear to look at her.  Because she’s beautiful in ways that make his heart hurt.  She’s bold in ways that just reinforce his feelings of inadequacy.  She’s the best friend he’s ever had and he’ll gladly fuck that up to save her from a nobody like him because she does deserve better.  She deserves everything.  “Can’t,” he says.  “Won’t,” he insists when her pretty features twist into a frown, sadness tugging heavily at the corners of her mouth.  

  Unsure fingers sweep through his shaggy hair and she sighs, leans her forehead against his own.  “Why?” 

  His mouth works to form the words with difficulty, all the reasons why she shouldn’t look back, should run as far and as fast as she can in the other direction, but all he can manage is a hoarse, “Because.” 

  Frustrated, she pulls at the ends of his hair.  Takes a page out of his book and growls. 

  It’d be funny.  Damn cute if his heart wasn’t threatening to split open wide.  But it is and it ain’t.  He’s pulling away before she’s even had a chance to respond, turning his back on her and walking away.  He doesn’t get far.  She doesn’t let him before her soft voice stops him, makes everything, everything stutter to a stop.  His heart.  His lungs.  The whole wide world around them. 

  “They’re right, you know.  Tara and Glenn.” 

  Slowly, he turns.  Stares at her as if he’s never seen her before.  And maybe he hasn’t.  Not this version of her.  Because her blue eyes draw him in, deep and daring and brimming with unspoken emotion.  “Hell did you just say?” 

  “I said they’re right.  Tara and Glenn.  It’s really not that complicated.”     

  “Stop.  Just stop.”  He pleads with her, but he knows it’s no use.  She’s stubborn.  Strong.  A helluva lot stronger than he is, and there’s the rub.  “You don’t know…” 

  “I do, Daryl.  I know.  You really think I don’t?” 

  “Carol, please.” 

  “No.  No.  It’s not that complicated.  You either love me or you don’t.  Which is it, Daryl Dixon?”

Not that they would be bad dads. To someone else. Not him, because he didn't see them that way, but someone else who needed unconditional support and care. (in which Cody and Obi-Wan dad at Anakin and Anakin is oblivious, right up until he isn't)

Truly, Deeply — [T] Of course Obi-Wan was not blind to the emotional, hormonal storm around his Padawan. One would have to be blind to both the Force and the physical world to miss it. And really, Anakin must have forgotten that his Master was not only Force-sensitive, but also connected to his mind through their training bond. (in which Obi-Wan is painfully aware of Anakin's feelings for Padmé and also forever wondering where he went wrong in trying to teach his Padawan subtlety)

Commander Fox Week 2021:

exhaustion (tumblr link) — [T] Fox has been running on fumes for days, counting down the time until he can drop onto the nearest surface and finally sleep.

hope — [T] Enough is enough. The Republic was doomed to fail, that much is clear. The Empire may have been inevitable as well. All Fox knows is that he’s finished, he can’t pretend anymore. He can’t fall in line like his mind has been wiped blank. So he decides to do something drastic.

family — [T] The fear-mongering rumors on Kamino about Fox being some kind of abusive, tyrannical prick have reached a point where they can’t go unaddressed. His shinies are clearly afraid and miserable with their assignment to the Guard, which Fox understands, but he can try to help them feel more at home. He can dispel some of the rumors.

laughter — [G] Existential debate rages in Fox’s office.

vode an — [M] Order 66 wiped away the clones’ autonomy, but mindless drones don’t have the wherewithal to feel guilt for their actions. The Rebellion is trying to get clones out of the purge trooper program, but freedom comes at a cost.

brothers — [T] Senator Amidala returns from Scipio with the 501st. This is the aftermath.

five times Nocte took care of the Corries, and one time they returned the favor (under construction) — [M] what it says on the tin

* red hands and black deeds — [M] Fox gets assigned to the Coruscant Guard after his bravery and sacrifices for the Republic during the First Battle of Geonosis. This job is a long shot from the one he spent his entire life preparing for; it's a war on a different front and it's on him to get his men out alive. Whether he'll get himself out with his sanity intact is up for debate.

I was wondering do you have any good fanfics to recommend ive been in a fanfic mood but can't find any, most of them stopped updating :(

god i’m honestly not the best person to ask for fics or fandom content in general. i literally don’t interact with the fandom much at all, like, sometimes i’ll go into the main tag and follow someone, but even then it’s very rare for me to follow someone. i like my dashboard small so i can catch up.

also, i only really read fic now once in a blue moon for emotional catharsis. sometimes i just want to feel bad and that’s ok. this also means most fics i read were years ago and i can barely remember anything, and don’t feel safe recommending in case i forget something bad about it. also, my old bookmarks were on a different computer, rip.

so honestly, i’m terrible for recommending fics. i’m only going to recommend one that i’ve reread some-what recently and some art based content. i actually recommend other people to reblog this post with their own recommendations! i just ask that non of them misgender the kids or are gross. just, putting that as a caution, i’m not assuming anyone is going to do that.

1) feeling bonely

the only fic on this list. a human au where sans is suicidal and meets toriel online anonymously through omgle. through the power of friendship and 38 chapters, sans learns how to put in the effort in having friends and making his life better.

this fic is such a comfort to me. it’s got My Brand of sadness that i crave in fics but it’s also so funny, lighthearted, thoughtful and inspiring. i love sans’ friendship with alphys, i love sans being a total dork baby over time travel, i love papyrus learning about depression and helping sans fight it, the salads and rubber bands for coping, i just,, akfjalsjdf its my favorite fic.

its soriel but i believe sans is ace so while romance is a element, sex isn’t which i greatly appericate lmao. since the fic does go into suicide and depression, parental abuse and ableism, ect., i do recommend keeping an eye on the content warnings. it’s also a really long fic but it’s finished.

2) Unexpected Guests

Papyrus summons a full bodied gaster blaster, chaos ensues. It’s a post pacfist comic that is beautifully drawn, is light on angst and has a lot of fun character interaction.

still a wip, but has a substantial amount of reading material you can go through. the story is getting really juicy by having sans finally fess wtf is UP with him. i’m dying to know what happens next!

3) Insomnia

a literal classic that hasn’t been updated in over a year, and it’s been that long since i read it but it’s a fandom classic! the art and it’s vibrant colors still stick to me even now. the story fits lore and real science together, it so detailed and beautiful.

i can’t recall if the author said this will be continued someday or not, i don’t want to spark rumors esp with my shoddy memory so idk! it’s such a fandom classic though, it’s defs worth reading!

ok i don’t THINK thats the title and i could just be oblivious and be misunderstanding here lmao. kan makes really, really good undertale content in general, like, their art is my favorite anything ever. kan covers heavy topics but does so with genuine care and thought. i luv their poncho and chara stuff. i could gush forever.

this comic in particular just started but it is ongoing! they also write fics!

5) EVERYTHING BY MEL

mel has a few askblogs, all of which are fantastic! i haven’t gotten the time to read all of their blogs but like, mel’s characterizations are so good and complex. mel handles the topic of trauma with nuance and it’s all vry good.

everything is on hiatus rn but there’s a big backlog.

6) Askgasterfamily (ok this is me outright cheating here. it’s my askblog)

i have a 4 year old askblog and while i have a lot feelings about it and its not aged the super best in my eyes cause a good chunk of it was written when my mental health utter crap. these last few years have been hard as hell on me and i will not go into why rn cause.. obviously its personal and this ain’t a vent post lmao. i used agf to cope a lot with the shit i was going through, so a lot of is messy.

anyway, summary: the aster family runs a vlog, where people ask them questions about their private life. starts off as a fun slice of life comedy but descends into a sci-fi horror story about depression, morality, and family abuse.

i honestly would recommend just waiting for me to make the animatic film. it’s going to be the definitive version where the story is streamlined and more coherent. i storyboared over a hour of footage but it’s currently undergoing major rewrites as i was unhappy with it, so it’s still going to be a while for it to come out.

aaaaand that’s it for now! that’s all my recs that i can think of. i know the second i post this i’ll think up like, 5 things i could recommend but i’m just gonna leave it as is for now. pls don’t take it personal if i forgot or didn’t put ur fanwork on here.

Moving away from the topic of deVailer but onto a semi-related problem plaguing the fandom is what type of fics people consume?

Or, lemme rephrase that. The STATUS of the fics people consume.

Guys, you can't wait until a fic is finished in order to give it support. I mean...theres nothing stopping you from doing so physically, however as someone who is friends with a writer who has poured her heart and soul into a fic where years and years of plotting and writing have gone into it, only to promote it and have it shoved back in her face that they'll read it when its finished, I can see just how upsetting this kind if system is.

I've pushed this message before just like I will keep adamently pushing it, but I think that fanfic writers who are in the process of writing their chaptered stories need the MOST support. Now, I'm not saying that this means that finished works don't deserve any love and support. Thats far from what I'm saying because we should CONSTANTLY be engaging with current writers, current artists, WIPs and drabbles and drafts and finished pieces and doodles and ask-blogs and comics. If we don't our fandom, to put it simply, is going to die.

My message here, though, is to say that its very easy to enjoy finished writing. Its easy to get into it, to binge, to enjoy and then be done with it. And its hard to get into WIPs because each update leaves a new cliffhanger, each update may not come as often as we want it to, and with each update comes the very real possibility of a writer not wishing to continue a fic. But you know what is a surefire way to combat a lot of those fears?

By SUPPORTING THE WRITER! Writing is hard! Writing is a struggle! I consider myself a borderline writer from my USUK side of the fandom bc of how hard it is for me to get motivation to open up a word doc. So to all you people out there, USUK fans or not, who are constantly typing away at those keyboards and producing new things, I want to say that I appreciate you so much. You deserve more likes, reblogs, comments, kudos, favorites, etc., and for every one of those that a finished work gets I believe a work in progress should get the same.

Its so heartbreaking to see how the motivation to continue writing leaves these writers due to the lack of interraction with their works because people would rather read something finished than something still currently being produced. This is why people leave the fandom, guys. Everytime a creator sees you interract with their creations, I 100% assure you they are more motivated to continue what it is they're doing. They do this for free, and not only do they do it for themselves but they do it in hopes that other people will get enjoyment out of what it is they took time to produce. But if theres no feedback, if it looks like nobody is enjoying their work...its easy to see how the "why bother?" mentality may sink in and harden them to the fandom.

To sort of end things I guess, I'm going to reccomend a few writers that I know from MY little USUK/UKUS niche who still have ongoing works that I urge you to check out. Please feel free to reblog and add more writers/stories to this post; I'm always looking for new people to support.

@rantingfangirl 's Cross-Life is an EXTREMELY well-written UKUS fic clocking in at about 15 (gloriously long) chapters. Here is the description:

"Given the choice to change his ways or face the consequences, Arthur is propelled from urban England to the American suburbs, putting up with all the drama, pettiness, and idiots that go with it."

Its slow-burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, and has all the delicious drama that comes with any punk-ass British kid in a cold and unloving household. Highly, HIGHLY reccomend checking this one out.

@gallifreyanlibertea 's I Took My Hater Out On a Date is a witty YouTuber AU in which fan's attempts at bringing Gamer!Alfred and Reaction-er(?)!Arthur evolves into good-natured publicity stunts, and maybe more? Mana is a very talented writer so if you haven't already read their work pleaaaase do. Its so, so good.

@not-aph-england actually has 3 that I'd like to reccomend! The first seems to be a smaller but still chaptered fic called Royal Sh*t! Here is the description:

"Peasant Arthur meets Prince Alfred on Tinder. But of course it’s just a catfish. Or is it?" It's cute, its witty, its everything you'd expect from a Tinder-sprouted romance.

The next is Plan B, an Omegaverse fic:

"Arthur Kirkland's plan A was to graduate, find a good job, buy his dream house and, yeah, why not?, eventually get married. Unfortunately, once he got pregnant, this plan became a distant dream. He had to replan his life, and now, with a daughter, his Plan B includes making the best with what he has and, definitely, staying away from alphas."

Last but not least is actually a collaboration RP-turned-fic with @mayumisatosan (I believe) called Life Goes On:

"Alfred and Arthur met at a social event and quickly realized they are quite compatible with each other. What makes their story complicated is the fact that the social event in question was a dinner party exclusively for widows. Oh, and the fact that Arthur is expecting a baby from his deceased mate."

Finally, this list wouldn't be complete without the mention of a good friend and writer who, I believe, goes underappreciated in all aspects- even in terms of her finished writings.

@drones-of-innocence 's The Messenger is a fic three years in the making with plenty of plotting done in advance:

19 - Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

I don't know. I get inspired by lots of things. Music being one of them - I come up with a 'what if every character played an instrument' AU for every fandom I've in, even though most of them never see the light of day. I'm also inspired by songs from time to time, but not as often as other writers, I don't think?

My family also visits Italy every year, and I always get sooo many writing ideas when we're there, it's ridiculous. I think just being in a wildly different place to miserable England shakes up my brain enough that plot bunnies start falling out left right and centre.

29 - If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Ooh, this is an interesting question. I went through my recced bookmarks on AO3, aka my absolute fave fics collection. In the end I only found one I would want to add to, since most of them ended in the perfect place. But Kids Protecting Kids by quirkle is a fic that's really stuck with me (everyone should read it), and I would want to write a little mini sequel after Wild wakes up where him and Legend just get to have a little chat and breathe out. together. Just another dollop of comfort atop the hurt/comfort.

33 - How do you feel about crack?

I love crack! And honestly I don't write enough of it nowadays. I'm really good at dialogue so crack used to be my forte, I wrote lots of silly fics back in the day. Now I've moved onto more serious horizons, I suppose, but writing serious fics is still kind of a struggle for me. I miss writing crack. My closest fic to actual crack is probably Five Teaspoons, but that probably counts as more just general humour.

37 - Talk about your current wips.

Oh, you've unleashed a monster by asking me this!!

Someday We'll Stand Here By The Sun (TOH, ongoing) - My magnum opus tbh. It's like 80% written rn, and I'm able to keep up a weekly updating schedule on AO3 because of that. But it's still far from done! Anyway, after S2 finished I was full of post King's Tide ideas, and most of them have made their home in this big multichapter. The main plot is the story of Luz, Amity and their trauma /lh. I have so much brainrot for them and their relationship, and S2B builds on their mutual confession so well. As we know there are two episodes in which Luz shows the same character flaw - hiding things from Amity/her loved ones due to a belief that her problems aren't as important as theirs, and wanting to protect other people's feelings. The fact that Luz doesn't seem to grow out of this flaw despite 2 EPISODES focused on it says to me that it's 100% something ingrained in her that isn't going away anytime soon. But I'll stop before I write a whole Luz character essay.

Point is, with the whole 'helping' Belos thing, Luz totally blames herself for the Draining Spell and is gonna spiral post S2, feeling like she has to get back to the Isles asap and fix all her mistakes, and MAYBE that will make up for how much of a horrible human being she thinks she is. So why did I choose to write from Amity's POV, when I started writing this to explore Luz's emotions? Well, at first I was worried about SWSHBTS being a 'Amity is Luz's therapist' fic, but Amity has so many issues herself that that was not a problem lmao. And I deliberated on doing alternate POVs - even made a pros and cons list - but in the end I went with Amity's POV only because she has a lot of things to say! (But there may be a chapter of Luz's POV... you'll just have to see)

I just love this fic so much, it is my baby, and uploading it is kinda the highlight of my week rn. There is so much in future chapters that I am excited for the world to see. Also, when I started writing it, it was out of motivation to make more Lumity Post King's Tide angst, cause there REALLY wasn't enough, but there have been many more fics in that genre uploaded since I began, and I inhale each one like they're my life force. Cause they kind of are. WOW that was a lot of words too bad I'm about to infodump about another 2 wips

Untitled Music AU (TOH, unwritten) - So I said that I come up with a 'what if every character played an instrument' AU for every fandom I'm in, and TOH is no exception. This was going to be a silly oneshot and now it's expanded into a whole multichapter universe that mostly exists only inside my brain. When I have the time to actually write it, it'll be great I'm sure lmao

But essentially Amity plays clarinet, Luz plays oboe, and they're put in the same woodwind quartet by Raine, their teacher at Hexside. This leads to them starting to become friends, but as they do, Amity starts seeing certain weird/supernatural things around school. (This is a human/no magic AU, to clarify). She thinks she's just going crazy, but she decides to confide in Luz. Luz is of course overjoyed to learn there's a potential mystery to be discovered in their school, and immediately joins Amity in playing detective. Yes I want there to be mystery in this AU, but I really have not worked out the finer details yet.

Other character roles include - Raine as Head Of Music. Lilith as their second in command in the music department - but she was also Amity's clarinet teacher until Amity was like nine/ten. One day, she suddenly dropped all of her private students and joined Hexside as a teacher instead. Why? Who knowsss! (You'll find out I promise). Eda runs the wackiest corner shop that sells Everything You'll Ever Need, and Luz is her employee and also her only oboe student. She's a longtime family friend of Camila, too. She took in Hunter, who plays bassoon, and Luz still considers Hunter her brother in this AU. Willow plays flute. She and Amity have a similar arc to canon, but it plays out a bit differently in this. And - this is my fav part - Blight Industries is a well-known company, and engage in copious amounts of rainbow capitalism every year. Meanwhile the Blight kids still genuinely have no idea if Odalia is homophobic or not.

And last but not least - the LU multichapter where Time dies and Twilight picks up the ocarina to go back in time and save his life (working title). But Time keeps dying, so Twilight keeps using the ocarina, and before he knows it he's in a Majora's Mask nightmare scenario of his own. This is one I was planning to write this summer before SWSHBTS came in and demanded attention. Lots of attention. So, I'm planning to get to this when SWSHBTS is done. I'm just so excited to write it - it's really going to push me as a writer, but I'm ready for that challenge if it means i can provide juicy Twi angst. The poor lad. I'm really going to put him through the wringer. And Time too, considering he's gonna die many times in the fic, but that's kind of just the plot.
