We already know the ending of What We Do In The Shadows the show. The movie told us.
Tumblr media
Spoilers from both the movie (2014) and the show (2024)
I think it’s obvious when Taika and Jemaine set out to make an American version of their vampire comedy, they weaved a lot of the same storylines into the show. We have vampire roommates, werewolves (not swearwolves) , familiars, an ancient vampire, vampire hypnosis, and a camera crew.
All the same ideas exist from movie to show, just presented differently.
Guillermo, the familiar turned vampire hunter turned bodyguard turned vampire turned back to human, is a combination of the movie’s familiar and vampire Hunter roles. I believe he’s also the love interest, Katherine.
I think the show, while becoming it’s own thing entirely, has a deep connection to the movie. I think they’ve been trying to follow viago’s love interest storyline since the show switched hands from Taika and Jemaine to Paul Simms.
While probably not known to most, Paul was instrumental in bringing the show over to the States, having helped to fund it.
Tumblr media
He was already in the world of Shadows, and while I haven’t agreed on the way he’s said things and some direction the show had taken (season 4 had some growing pains), I do believe he’s understood the heart of the show.
Which is why I think they took such a dramatic shift in season 4 to tell and show the audience that Nandor doesn’t want to just date, but to really have a life or afterlife partner. That season had two “coming outs”. Guillermo obviously coming out as gay, and Nandor coming out as pansexual before he was turned.
I think this distinction was really important to build their romantic dynamic. They wanted to show Nandor’s interest in Guillermo wasn’t attributed to just horny vampireness, but actual true love and affection for him.
And having Guillermo formally come out as gay was more than just the Freddie gag (or the purpose of Guillermo having a boyfriend so that Nandor sleeps with him causing Guillermo to get upset about it which encourages Guillermo to take vampire turning into his own hands, leading to the events in season 5), but to show the audience that Guillermo’s not just a hero worshipper of his boss. He could very well have a crush that could become something more.
And while Simms’ execution of Nandermo so far has not been executed perfectly, (mostly because I think his version of Shadows uses jokes to cover or masque serious moments whereas Jemaine’s comedy often highlights and exposes the truth about life in funny situations), I think Paul’s vision is headed in the right direction.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Guillermo has a far larger familiar role than the one in the movie. Storytelling wise, it’s expected that Guillermo’s ending will solve the lingering vampire question that was halfway resolved in season 5. Because the show is telling the audience, “Wait. There’s more.” There’s more change to be had. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that a part of Nandor’s arc is finding love. And part of his ending will have to be resolving this, as well.
And funny enough, Viago’s ending resolves both of these issues. He finds love with Katherine again and turns her into a vampire, but she got to have a full life first. There’s comedy there (he’s still older than her even though they don’t look it) but also there’s heart. She got to have a full life and agency of her own instead of being robbed of it.
I think Paul wants to set up this ending because it’s funny but also, to highlight his appreciation to the original. We expected from the jump that Nandor would turn Guillermo eventually and we can’t just have that without growth and change and conflict in between. It’s nice to get everything we want, but that’s not what sitcoms do. Sitcoms subvert expectations, and Paul is highly versed in sitcom structure. (Something that I think even Jemaine and Taika had to learn. )
Paul Simms’ isn’t just a writer in the room, he is a writer familiar (haha insert lame reference joke here) with the source material in a sitcom format. The movie wasn’t a sitcom. They could resolve Viago’s relationship because movies resolve arcs at the end of the movie.
Sitcoms don’t resolve anything at the end of an episode or even the end of a season. They resolve them at the end of the show. He knows Nandermo would end the show, because when characters get what they want (whatever their aspirations are) it completes the narrative. In sitcoms, the characters wants drive the purpose of the show.
And all good sitcoms don’t immediately give you (the audience) what you want until the end. And yes it can be frustrating, but when done right, the payoff is worth it. When the arcs are finished, the story ends. Even in sitcoms and comedy shows. So, Guillermo and Nandor being together and Nandor even eventually turning Guillermo, would have to be arc finishers. That would end the show. Which is why I think s6 is ending here, because the lead (Nandor) finished his arc.
Now whether that means Nandor will turn Guillermo on screen or not is yet to be seen. Maybe at some point down the road when Guillermo’s family is much older or have moved on from this earth and maybe when there is a new way to be a vampire without blood, Guillermo will be ready.

My thoughts on these last two episodes:
Though things seems to have gone back to what they were, I believe they are also completely different at the same time.
Because although being a vampire was Guillermo’s dream, I think in the years he’s spent with the vampires, the main reason he wanted to be turned was so he could be considered a valued part of the team
He wanted the vampires to see him like family, to care about him the way he does for them.
And that’s come true, all the vampires care and love and worry for Guillermo now.
They all demonstrated this in their own different ways this season:
from Laszlo actively trying to help Guillermo, showing up at his motel to apologize for not being as helpful (which was actually very sweet of him) to that final scene with Derek
to Nadja taking Guillermo to the vet and protecting him from being harmed
To Colin stopping by the motel to give Guillermo a farewell gift.
They all were worried about him. They all didn’t want him to get killed, that’s why they kept his secret despite knowing how hurt and upset Nandor would be. It’s such a three sixty from the beginning of the series. The found family vibes really made me want to cry in the best way.
(But since I am a huge nandermo shipper I saved my Nandor points for last because I’m gonna dive in DEEP)
I knew that we wouldn’t get a love confession this season, I believe that Guillermo will either be turned into a vampire in a last ditch effort to save his life (hopefully by Nandor)
Or he’ll eventually change his mind and ask Nandor again to be turned and I think if he were to ask again (after everything that’s happened) I think Nandor would do it if he believed Guillermo was sure.
Guillermo did mention to Nandor at the fake ceremony that he really still wanted to be a vampire. (So who knows I wanna keep hope alive)
But overall, I loved this season.
We got a rare peak behind the curtain at Nandor.
He not only deeply cares for Guillermo and can’t imagine losing him but he also knew all along that Guillermo was not ready to be a vampire.
(Remember that scene in s3 where Nandor tells Guillermo that vampirism is a curse? And that he cared too much about him to do that to him?)
The fact that Nandor memorized Guillermo’s letter to him when they first met just speaks volumes about how much he actually loves Guillermo.
Nandor has grown so much this season, it was so refreshing to see. I mean all those self help books really paid off. Cause, not only did he set his own hurt feelings aside and forgave Guillermo despite how important loyalty and honor are to him but
he also didn’t act impulsively when it came to Guillermo transitioning. He let Guillermo experience vampirism and observed his reactions and emotions before stepping in.
(I hope we continue to see more character growth like this and that hopefully in s6 we finally get some romantic plot for these two because fuck I’m in too deep to quit this show/ ship lol)

WWDITS finale analysis
Making the finale be about the documentary ending was genius. What else would it be about? Nothing else in this story ever changes, the only thing the ending changes is that the documentary ends. It’s perfect.
The fact that Guillermo goes from being upset that it’s ending, to insisting it has a good ending, to deciding to lie to the camera to make up his own ending is perfect. For the entire show, the vampires never changed, and Guillermo always kept insisting on change while never actually leaving the situation. He doesn’t leave any of the times he’s said he will, he doesn’t stay a vampire when he finally becomes one, when he does go to canon capital, he doesn’t seem to mind Nandor and Nadja being there all that much, and he returns to them again at the end of the penultimate episode. He keeps insisting on changing without ever actually doing so. An ending where he insists on a conclusion, only to instead simply fake one for the camera, and still not leave the situation, like he’s always been doing, what they’ve all always been doing, is very thematic.
It’s just this reminder: he’s like them. He insists that he’s not, he pretends that he’s not. He says he’s growing and changing and becoming something different, but he’s kind of the same as he’s always been, kind of wants to stay that way, kind of wants to fake the change and stay the same, stay like them and stay with them.
In this show entirely about vampires not changing or growing or learning simply because they can continue on without having to, the inclusion of a human character being exactly the same but masking as something different is intriguing.
You can kinda feel It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s influence. There’s this one video essay (by quintonreviews) about how sitcoms always have the characters in the same situations again and again, never actually learning or growing, because that would kill the premise of the show, and how over time that makes the characters feel less real. And always sunny subverts this by having the whole premise of the sitcom be “these people never grow or change, and they’re terrible for it and getting worse”. And i think wwdits does that exact same concept, except instead of forty-something’s working at the same shitty bar for decades because every plan they’ve came up with to get a better life has been shit, its ancient vampires sitting around the same old house for decades or centuries because why bother improving anything when you can just use hypnosis to get what you want and most of what you want is already here?
Which i suppose is what makes Guillermo special: he’s a human but he can’t be hypnotized and he is drawn to the exact same lifestyle of sitting around in this house doing the same thing over and over. Except he wants to pretend he isn’t like that. It’s great!
Now, all that being said, wwdits in my opinion does not beat out the queerbaiting allegations. Some say it does, because it has canon queer characters. But we weren’t baited with canon queer characters, we were baited with a canon queer relationship, with queer relationships being treated with the same seriousness as male/female relationships. And wwdits doesn’t give us that, after clearly baiting us until the very fucking end. And the actors and showrunner going on about how nandermo can be friends and being friends is no less important than a romantic relationship are infuriating because you know they’re not actually trying to make some big statement about the equal validity of friendship. They’re openly mocking us in the finale! How dare fans want an ending that provides conclusion to this baited ship???
So then how do my feelings about the genius of showing that these characters never change and Guillermo is in the end just like them, just pretending he isn’t match up with my desire for nandermo to be canon? Frustration! Because we could’ve had both so fucking easily! All they had to do was, when Nandor and Guillermo think the cameras have stopped rolling and are giving up the game, have them kiss. It would’ve been a perfect wtf moment. It would’ve matched the theme of the finale- the question of how much of this is being played up for the camera, how much of the documentary is even real? It wouldn’t have even involved the characters changing, since we wouldn’t know how long nandermo had been together, just that they got together at some point. It would’ve been cute and funny, wondering how long have these characters been together behind the documentary’s back? It would’ve fit the tone of the finale and the premise of the story and avoided the queerbaiting allegations and it would’ve been so easy within the episode they already created to just add in a kiss.
We just wanted nandermo to be taken as seriously as Nadja and laszlo. Thats not even that seriously! Because it’s a comedy and we all know that! But they can’t even do that much!

A little Nandermo fic for February (the first of many).
Read on AO3
Ever since Guillermo got back from England, Nandor has been acting very strange. Guillermo hasn't said anything about it. He hasn't asked. But he's noticed. How could he not? He spent every day by Nandor's side for twelve years. He knows him, all his habits and moods and tells.
He knows when he's lying, or hiding. He knows when he's upset, when he's holding something back. He knows what it looks like when he's nervous, sad, disappointed.
What he doesn't quite know is why Nandor seems to cycle through all those emotions and then some whenever they're alone together these days.
It started when he was first let out of the shipping crate--a grievance he is still going to exact vengeance on Nadja and Laszlo for, one of these days. Nandor was happy to see him, transparently so. It took Guillermo’s breath away a little, actually, even in the midst of his anger. He'd been away from Nandor for an entire year, and so much had changed, and he was so angry at him–for leaving without Guillermo, for not looking for him or reaching out. But even with all that, the sight of him knocked Guillermo back a step, made him feel like he had to run before he got pulled back into Nandor’s orbit.
Of course, that didn’t exactly go according to plan.
One minute he was screaming goodbye forever, the next he was falling, screaming, no time to think or take a breath before he was plunged into freezing, putrid water, flailing, his clothes weighing him down too much to get to the surface…
And then there were arms around him, holding him tight, lifting him up. He’d clutched at the hands on his chest, afraid to fall, and realized with a shock that he knew those arms, those hands.
Oh, was his first thought. I’m okay. Nandor’s got me.
Then he was in the air, Nandor practically squeezing the water he’d inhaled out of him before he set him down gently and immediately went to fetch him a towel and robe, without even being asked.
When their eyes met as Nandor handed the neatly folded pile over to him, it was like an audible click, two matching pieces of a puzzle slotting into place.
Guillermo had told himself he was just glad to be back home.
But then Nandor got all cryptic and serious, announcing his wedding plans and asking Guillermo to be his best man with the same gravitas he'd once asked him to travel the world. And then...
Then he’d actually looked disappointed when Guillermo said he wasn’t jealous. Nandor was subdued the rest of the day, in fact, even as he showed off his treasure horde and threw himself into discussing his wedding plans. Maybe no one else would notice it, but Guillermo did.
And so the pattern had been set, and continued whenever they were alone together. When they’re wedding planning, or out on an errand, Nandor treats him so differently from before. He asks Guillermo’s opinions and actually seems to care about his answers. He remembers things, too, like that Guillermo needs to eat actual human food once in a while, and is supposed to have a day off each week. He laughs openly at Guillermo’s jokes now, instead of pretending to be annoyed by them.
Sometimes Guillermo will catch Nandor throwing him these little glances, too, his face open and delighted, just like that first night back. Like doing everyday, mundane things with Guillermo makes him so happy he can’t contain it behind his usual aloof façade.
Then, inevitably, he’ll meet Guillermo’s eyes and grow suddenly somber, devolving quickly into sad and distant. He'll start to fidget with his hands or his rings, avoiding Guillermo's eyes. Often he’ll suddenly recall something else he ought to be doing, and Guillermo won’t see him for the rest of the night.
Once could be chance, twice a coincidence…but Guillermo stopped counting after the sixth time this pattern repeated and he had to watch, bewildered, as Nandor ran off claiming he had forgotten an urgent favor for Laszlo.
It’s driving Guillermo up the wall.
The thing is, he has his suspicions as to what this is all about. Unlikely as they might have once seemed, he doesn’t think he’s wrong about those suspicions…and all he can think is why now? Why, after years of indifference to lukewarm tolerance at best, does Nandor have to choose now to look at Guillermo like he actually sees him? To act like he wants Guillermo’s undivided attention, craves it even?
A year ago, hell, even six months ago Guillermo would’ve done anything to have Nandor treating him like this. But now…things are different. Complicated. He isn’t the same perpetually single twenty-something virgin with no social life pining after the man who is both the embodiment and gatekeeper of all his dreams. He’s thirty-one, and no longer single. Or a virgin. And maybe he’s starting to have new dreams now.
His boyfriend Freddie, for example. He’s a dream come true! Smart, sweet, attentive. A great listener. Thoughtful. Selfless, effusive. Guillermo never doubts his worth or that he’s wanted and appreciated when it comes to Freddie. He’s never felt lonely with Freddie right next to him. He never has to beg for scraps of affection, or brace himself for sudden rejections. Freddie was open and explicit about his attention, right from the start. If anything, Freddie is too effusive, reducing Guillermo to blushing and smiling so hard it hurts on a regular basis with his open displays of affection, pet names, and easy I love yous.
And okay, sure, he doesn’t know everything about Guillermo’s life. But if that was a disqualifier, well, then Guillermo’d just have to die alone, because what sane person could he ever share the whole truth of himself with? Nice men don’t typically go for guys who spent their twenties aiding and abetting in hundreds of murders. And that’s what Guillermo wants, what he needs right now. Someone nice.
So why did Nandor have to choose now to start giving Guillermo the attention and appreciation he’s been begging for since he was nineteen years old?
And why can’t Guillermo stop looking forward to those evenings he spends with Nandor, collecting stolen moments alone?
~
It all starts to come to a head on a rainy night in February.
Freddie is five hours ahead, so they had their Valentine’s Day video chat earlier in the evening. Now here Guillermo is, with the whole night stretching out empty before him, alone on Valentine’s Day despite having a boyfriend for the first time in his life. He tries not to let it get him down, smiling at the text full of heart emojis Freddie sent before he went to bed and the flowers currently blooming in a vase on Guillermo’s night stand. They arrived without warning on the doorstep early that morning, along with a sweet card Guillermo currently has pinned to the wall above his bed.
He isn’t alone on Valentine’s Day, he reminds himself. Not really. He had his time with Freddie, long-distance though it was, and now he can go about his night and pretend as though nothing at all special is happening this evening.
But of course, it isn’t that simple. Guillermo’s life never is. When he opens the curtain that conceals his room he nearly has a heart attack, leaping back to put distance between himself and the looming figure standing in his doorway.
“Relax, Guillermo, it is only me! Yeesh!”
Guillermo pries his fingers off the stake he dove for and draws his hand out, leaving the weapon hidden beneath his pillow.
You can’t sneak up on me like that, Master!” He grouses. Nandor gives him an apologetic smile.
“What did you need?” Guillermo asks. Immediately, he knows something is up when Nandor starts fidgeting with the ring on his index finger.
“I was wondering if you would accompany me this evening. On a…” he hesitates. “On a walk.”
“A walk? Guillermo asks, eyebrow raised.
“Fine, a hunt!” Nandor says. “I wish to have company as I hunt for dinner in the park, and I do not wish that company to be Laszlo or Nadja this evening. They are very annoying to be around this time of year.”
Ah. Right. That makes sense. Guillermo shudders to imagine what those two are like on Valentine’s Day, given how they are the rest of the year. Thankfully, he has never had to witness it firsthand.
Now that he thinks about it…he almost always ends up on some sort of solo errand with Nandor on Valentine’s Day. Maybe this is why? Nandor doesn’t want to third-wheel on Nadja and Laszlo’s dates?
He smiles up at Nandor, trying to parse the mixture of warmth and annoyance at the thought that they’ve had a tradition all this time and he didn’t even realize it.
“Sure, Master,” he says. “I’d love to go on a hunt with you.”
He tries not to enjoy the look on Nandor’s face at his response, or the way it makes his heart skip a beat. This is nothing out of the ordinary, he insists to himself. Not if they’ve done it every year as long as they’ve known each other. It’s like…their Thing. Their friendly, totally platonic thing that he has no reason to feel a twinge of guilt about.
He grabs that excuse with both hands, and goes to get his coat.
~
Spring is coming on early this year, the night unseasonably warm for mid-February. Guillermo actually steps back inside after feeling the temperature to toss his coat at the coat rack, knowing he’ll be sweating in the humid spring air in no time if he wears it. Other than that it’s a beautiful night, the nearly-full moon filtering down through a thin blanket of clouds, casting everything in shades of blue shadow and soft silver. The air in the park smells of melting snow, wet grass, and ozone, foretelling oncoming rain. But for now there’s only a slight breeze that teases at Guillermo’s collar, sending little tendrils of chill down his neck as he takes two steps to keep pace with each one of Nandor’s long strides.
Nandor has been uncharacteristically quiet since they entered the park, but the silence feels comfortable between them. Easy. He keeps stealing glances at Guillermo when he thinks Guillermo isn’t looking. He’s also sticking to Guillermo’s side like glue, their arms or fingers brushing with every other step. For a moment, Guillermo entertains the giddy thought that Nandor is trying to “accidentally” hold his hand, like they’re teenagers on a first date.
But this is not a date, he reminds himself again sternly. This is just Guillermo and Nandor in the park, hunting for Nandor’s dinner and getting away from their housemates’ infernal, eternal honeymoon phase on the most disgustingly romantic night of the year. A little tradition between friends.
He makes himself believe that right up until the moment Nandor’s cool fingers brush against his own, curl around them, and grab hold. He’s so surprised he almost trips over his own two feet, and Nandor has to catch him before he nosedives into the sidewalk.
“Careful, Guillermo!” Nandor says, returning him to an upright position but not removing his hands from Guillermo’s arms. “You do not want to plant your face!”
Guillermo laughs nervously, stepping back out of Nandor’s reach and looking anywhere but into his eyes.
“Thank you, Master,” he says softly, feeling a telltale heat creeping into his face. Nandor accepts his thanks without comment and they continue walking, the silence no less companionable, but perhaps a little more charged than before. It occurs to Guillermo, as they head deeper into the park, that they haven’t seen a single person so far on their walk, and aren’t likely to. Guillermo has been following Nandor’s lead, since the whole point was to hunt for dinner…but Nandor has skirted around all the areas where people usually congregate this late, sticking close to the tree-lined paths that are always deserted by sundown.
He turns to point this out to his master, but something stops him. Maybe the way Nandor’s head jerks to his left, as though listening for the sound of potential prey and not hiding the fact that he was once again staring at Guillermo.
“Master?” Nandor turns as if nothing happened.
“Mmm?” He asks, raising one eyebrow. Guillermo suppresses a sigh. He might as well push a little, while he has Nandor alone.
“Is something wrong?” And there it is. Nandor looks caught out, his eyes sliding away from Guillermo’s immediately, his shoulders going just a little tense.
“Wrong? Whatever could be wrong?” Guillermo stops walking.
“I don’t know…you tell me, Nandor!” That gets his attention. Nandor freezes and turns to him, looking shiftier than ever. He starts to fiddle with his rings.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” Nandor insists, not meeting his eyes. Guillermo fights his rising frustration, determined not to let this turn into an argument. He takes a step toward Nandor, reaching out a hand to pat him on the arm. Nandor doesn’t pull away from the touch, but he doesn’t quite relax into it either.
“Master,” he says, in the tone he might use if that were a pet name instead of a title indicating deference. “Please, whatever it is, you can tell me. You’ve been off ever since you got back from your trip.” He steps closer, looks up into Nandor’s face. Nandor still won’t meet his eyes.
“Is it the wedding? Are you worried about–”
Nandor doesn’t let him finish. At mention of the wedding, a spasm of frustration passes across his face, breaking through his attempts at composure at last. He fists his hands in Guillermo’s sweater, pulling him so close that his cool breath ghosts over Guillermo’s lips when he speaks. Nandor’s eyes aren’t avoiding Guillermo’s anymore. He feels pinned by that gaze, unable to move as it searches his own.
“You know very well,” he says, his voice somewhere between a growl and a purr. “That I am not thinking about that wedding right now.”
Guillermo opens his mouth to reply, to ask Nandor what his problem is, to demand that Nandor let him go. Something. But before he can make his lips form the words, there’s a crack of thunder that seems to split open the sky. One second it’s a quiet, humid spring evening…the next, Guillermo is almost immediately soaked to the skin by the deluge of rain that comes pouring down, hours ahead of schedule.
Nandor releases his sweater only to grasp his hand, pulling him along without pausing to explain. Guillermo goes willingly, too stunned by Nandor’s words and the heart-pounding feeling of those hands pulling him in to put up any protest, or ask where Nandor is taking them. He leaves the path behind entirely, ducking through a gap in the trees following nothing Guillermo can sense or see. Then he turns, guides them through yet another gap in the trees, and Guillermo sees a little white gazebo up ahead, tucked away in a circle of trees and bushes.
Nandor pulls him up the few steps into the shelter of the gazebo, the rain still falling like a crystalline curtain all around, its dull roar making the rest of the world feel muted and far away. Guillermo removes his steamed-up glasses and blinks up at Nandor through the curls plastered to his forehead.
Nandor is, of course, more unfairly beautiful than ever in the rain. His hair is a silken curtain, strands of it falling out of his careful little bun to hang in his face. There are drops of water caught in his lashes, and he’s laughing as he pushes Guillermo’s sopping hair out of his eyes with gentle fingers. The sound is quiet and sweet beneath the cacophony of the storm outside this little bubble he’s created for the two of them. It wraps around him like a well-loved blanket, soft and warm.
Guillermo wonders what Nandor sees when he looks down at him like that. Does he ever look at Guillermo and think words like beautiful? Do his hands ache sometimes with the effort of not reaching out to touch? He’s been so nice to Guillermo lately, and it’s throwing him for a loop.
Freddie was nice to Guillermo from the very beginning. Freddie is sweet, and caring, and trusting, and never, ever leaves Guillermo wondering where they stand. He's life and sunshine and gentle sanding on Guillermo’s rough edges. He’s everything Guillermo should want in a boyfriend, and he doesn't deserve what Guillermo already knows will happen. He doesn't.
But Nandor...
Nandor is that thrill of possibility when the clock strikes midnight, the wildness that wakes in even timid hearts beneath the full moon, the thing that makes Guillermo shiver in the dark…but not with fear. Never with fear. He has been the subject of every fantasy Guillermo has had since he was nineteen years old. His unrequited first love, or so he always thought. His unlikely best friend. He is frustrating and confusing and terrible at timing and infuriatingly gorgeous, and…
He’s everything. It’s as simple as that. Blood and endless possibility and death, all wrapped up in eternity.
Guillermo covers Nandor’s hand on his face with one of his own, watches as the laughter fades from his eyes, replaced with something warm and wanting. Time seems to slow to a crawl around them, suspending them in the moment before everything changes.
It's death Guillermo’s been running after, flirting with, begging for all these years. Death of the scared, odd, timid little boy with no friends and no future who let people walk all over him. He’d wanted to kill that part of himself, put it out of its misery. He’d wanted to burst from his own chest, strong and undying and new. He thought Nandor could give him that, once, but now he knows: Nandor didn’t need to give him anything. He only called to what was living inside Guillermo all along. That final transformation, when it arrives, will just be a formality.
Some will say he killed the man he was and left a monster free to walk around in his skin. But what those people will never understand is that Guillermo has always felt like he was something a little bit monstrous. That's what happens to you when you grow up being told that people who feel the things you feel, want the things you want, are something to hate and fear and kill wherever you can. You can believe them and destroy yourself, you can burn yourself out trying to prove that they’re wrong about you…or you can decide you deserve to be happy regardless.
That was the decision he made, when he followed Nandor into the night all those years ago. That was what he felt the first time he picked up a stake to defend his family, the first time he stood up to Nandor and fought him and won. It’s what he feels now, with Nandor still looking down at him in that soft, new way that tells Guillermo he’s being seen and adored for exactly what he is. Every day of his life he’s spent feeling at home in his own skin, Nandor was never far away.
How can a relationship of a few months compare to that? How can it be wrong to reach for Nandor now, when he has always been Nandor's? This is just the universe righting itself at last.
At least, that's what Guillermo tells himself as he tangles his free hand in Nandor's wet hair and pulls him down into a kiss, finally, finally. He won't even have the excuse of "he kissed me first" later, and he doesn't want it. This is his choice. It was always going to be his choice, and he can’t find it in himself to be sorry for that.
Nandor’s hand on his face slides back, carding through his hair, his other arm wrapping around Guillermo’s waist to pull him in close before simply lifting him off his feet entirely.
He gasps as he’s swept up into strong arms that hold him as easily as if he weighs nothing. He wraps both hands around Nandor’s neck, biting at his bottom and eliciting a dark chuckle that vibrates against Guillermo’s mouth and travels down his spine like lightning.
Maybe it isn’t Nandor who’s been off since they got back, after all. Maybe it was him, trying to pretend this fire burning in his chest had gone out when it’s never burned brighter. It doesn’t matter now. The last year, Freddie, all Guillermo’s attempts to put distance between himself and Nandor…none of it matters.
The whole world is just this night and the rain and Nandor’s mouth on his, and Guillermo wouldn’t have it any other way.

I kind of don’t like what they’re doing with Guillermo’s transformation
Okay that’s kind of hyperbole. I love the narrative element, the way that it very obviously connects to infidelity and sex is a great angle. Especially when you look at the queerer sub-subtext.
However, I kind of just want Guillermo to be happy? Like, obviously this is a T.V. show and sunshine and rainbows does not a plot make, but still.
Guillermo’s worked for Nandor for twelve years. And it’s not just work! This is full time complete dedication to Nandor and his housemates. He lives there, he relies on them for his survival, he can’t work anywhere else, he didn’t have a relationship for a very long time and when he did get one it was ruined. Guillermo is giving up so much for this!
All he wanted was to be a vampire. I know why Nandor won’t turn him (he doesn’t want him to leave) but this is still horrible. We’ve established his poor living conditions and minimal pay (..do they pay him?) in season one.
I’m a Nandermo shipper like most of us, but you have to recognize the abuse of power as an employer (sort of) that Nandor is holding. If Nandor isn’t going to give Guillermo what he’s worked so hard for, Guillermo should find it somewhere else.
And if you put it into a sexual context, obviously that’s horrible. If your partner isn’t giving you what you need from a relationship, break up before you find a new partner. And I do think Guillermo should’ve talked to Nandor or even left as a familiar before he asked Derek for help, but even then, this isn’t sex!
Nandor and Guillermo aren’t in a relationship. The expectation for loyalty and respect aren’t mutual. Nandor expects Guillermo to be loyal and respectful to him without treating Guillermo the same way. In the context of a romantic relationship? Their relationship is incredibly toxic and abusive.
I just don’t think that Nandor should expect respect when he hasn’t shown that to Guillermo. Nandor of season 5 is not Nandor of season 1, but he still isn’t an equal to Guillermo. Nandor makes fun of him, degrades him, doesn’t see him as “human” (in this instance he doesn’t see him as vampire, which makes sense, but uses it as an excuse to treat him like dog shit)
I love what they’re doing, it just makes me a bit sad. That’s all.

Season 6 Wish List:
Nandor and Silvia pick out surrogates. Nandermo Reveal by the ensuing conversation, where Guillermo says telling Nandor to Breed Him in the middle of sex is not the same and the whole would-he-Sire-offspring thing was in the middle of a vampire/familiar roleplay! Intent was not clear! Nandor says during their prolonged marriage negotiations which you are spoiling right now, Guillermo, his mother demanded grandchildren, he is doing his best here to be modern about all this.
Bonus points if Guillermo walks in on the debate of Surrogates at the Staten Island House, the whole vampire clan is involved advocating for the best one, Silvia as judge. Guillermo was unaware, but finally understands why Nandor expected him to give his semen to the witches, too. Guillermo was getting weirded out by how specific everyone was getting about the new potential familiar’s diet during the interviews, but thought it was their attempt to show care by figuring out what humans needed. {That, or Nandor shared with the house what he was thinking during blowjobs- and Guillermo terminates that thought}
I really need someone explaining artificial insemination (while Guillermo is gone) to the vampire household, voting they need another supernatural baby and Lazlo swearing not to raise this one into an energy vampire, believing slayer genes will make it hardy. Guillermo is out of town on quest, unaware why everyone’s so caught up with ‘witches and bitches’ until he hears his mother fully on board, defending her grandchild as ‘not un-holy’ to a goth surrogate looking forward to carrying unholy spawn, who misread the situation as an Alister Crowley-anti-Christ summoning. If anything the conception is closer to immaculate by science in vampire logic, but Nadja/Lazlo promise Devil’s Threesomes when the hormones kick in to keep the Jeebus out of it.
Bonus if Guillermo’s been on a parent-relationship journey connecting with his father’s family/slayers, so he wasn’t around as much day-to-day and Nandor is openly advocating having Guillermo’s baby because Guillermo is an honorable man and would not leave Nandor alone with Child. [Who needs faith in promises when you can hold family hostage! Many of Nandor’s wives came about for this reason.]
Honestly, Nandor Baby-trapping Guillermo in the honeymoon phase—
(of their private, quiet beginning of their relationship- according to Guillermo, who doesn’t show anything to the cameras and is doing exploration post season 5 finale about his future. When they got together they discussed going slow to prevent Guillermo from being all wrapped up in Nandor to the detriment of himself and Nandor from repeating past relationship mistakes as a rushing people pleaser)
—is exactly what I expect from this fucked up dynamic. Bonus points if Nandor is putting his energy into Baby as Future because he really can’t face Guillermo growing old and dying in front of him, maybe if the child wants to be immortal then he’ll stay for them, if not Nandor.
Nadja believes Lazlo wants another kid and is involved to make sure no witch trickery is afoot. Collin Robinson is feeding and the Guide will not grasp the house had vetoed magic to make her the surrogate. Also, Silvia pretends she doesn’t hear the offer every time.

WWDITS S5 ep 1 & 2 thoughts
HI, my friends!!!! **SPOILERS AHEAD!!!** Pls slide by, this account will not be safe for spoilers (for whatever current eps are out, i am closing my eyes for teasers on new eps).   Current thoughts, ep1 , HOLY MOLY I,,I really feel bad for Guillermo, they make my boy suffer so much. Though I couldn’t help but laugh knowing the other coworker at Derek’s place would not look up, while there is a literal blood scene on the floor. But, also why is this man still cleaning toilets, when he was given a huge sum of money, sir go get urself something nice... AJSNAs. Nandor was so cute on the carousel, and omg when he broke the door it actually scared me. I keep forgetting that these vampires can be scary sometimes, but we all know Guillermo would be the one to survive in the end. And lord puppy eyes for the guide, let her wIN, I support womans wrongs but Nadja baby pls.. AJSNA Ep 2, Again great, I just, I really love Lazlo and Nandor bonding more as per usual. It was so cute when Lazlo admitted he was jealous of Nandor’s hypnosis powers, and honestly, I feel like Nandor is getting more powerful not in just that, something is happening??? Idek...very nice for Nadja to find a place that reminds her of home, I was really going awww, especially when the guide mimicked her happy spin, reminds me of when Lazlo mimicked Nadja’s little dance as well. Also don’t think I forgot, fucking I, How the hell is baron Afanas keeps getting pretter in every frame, and me crying cause the sire was making himself a little circus with popsicle sticks, IM GUNNA CRY AND THROW UP. Why can’t I live in that house it’s not fair. Now for more Lazlo and Guillermo bonding.,, but honestly these new eps made me laugh and worried at the same time. We are in for some more Nandermo trauma, The writers of this show really popped off and I CAN’t-
In conclusion I’ve rewatched these 2 eps, twice already, I will partake in a 3rd watch, when I first watched I felt like life was not real, I’m so so happy! I ran to tumblr to check what everyone had to say, yall are so smart and funny! I want to draw but my hand is still sore from yesterday, I have so many things I want to doodle! More art in the future! Thank you for yalls support, feel free to tell me ur thoughts, sending Hearts! ❤❤❤

Thanks for tagging me!
I really enjoyed reading everything. I was so close to making my own post about this same exact thing!
I agree with everything said here and I truly believe this secret affair is canon text.
I know a lot of people got upset at my posts because Isaid that in episode 10 they became canon.
(and I understand people want to see certain canon things like an onscreen kiss or love confession. I get it. I really do. I would have liked it too.)
But I believe this season was to prove the secret relationship and that it’s why Paul said they are already canon. It’s just different than what people want.
They had been canon, just not in the documentary. Or at least, the way we wanted it while the cameras rolled.
I get it now. This is what they do in the shadows.
Tumblr media
The lair is certainly a thinly veiled nod to what they are doing offscreen. A lair designed for just them via Nandor’s bed coffin?
I mean, it was said in the short film, too.
Tumblr media
“We make love in the shadows”
“ So why do the other vampires have sex on screen? Why can’t Guillermo and Nandor?”
We’ve already seen that Guillermo is private about his love life. It’s been that way for seasons. He wasn’t going to do much more on screen (maybe hug like Freddie).
And for Nandor, this is where he is most vulnerable. Guillermo knows him as well as Nandor knows Guillermo. Nandor not wanting to showcase his truest feelings is apparent in the episode OP pointed out. The one with Charmaine.
Nandor can easily showcase this “love” for the Guide, but not with Guillermo because it doesn’t make him feel that vulnerability. Because that leads to pain. He is still afraid of being too vulnerable, even by finale time, and he can’t bring himself to admit it to camera.
I have much more to say on this topic, too. I could write a whole paper. I had an inkling that a secret relationship arc was possible since the first episode and when Harvey Guillen compared Titanic’s love story to Nandermo.
And I love how you mentioned the instances of Nandor noticing the camera this season!! Usually Guillermo is the most aware of the camera, and now we see all the vampires but definitely Nandor notice them more and more.
(I’ll add that I would have loved a kiss too. I still believe in the possible s6 cancellation theory. I do want more Nandor and Guillermo and I believe that more Nandermo is in store for us if we get a spinoff)
WHEN THE CAMS ARE OFF
So, Nandor and Guillermo are canonically doing some things when when they're not being filmed. With knowing this, I wanted to recap a few things from the season.
This post will mainly focus on how Nandor in particular handled himself subliminally towards the camera in certain situations. Also, that Guillermo faked to leave the vampires in E11 just for the documentary got me thinking which other things could be made up too. Giving a false view of facts just to make the audience think otherwise or to distract them from something specific... This specific thing they wanted to keep private, and didn't want it to be anyone else's business. Cause they wanted to solve and figure it out for themselves without having it exploited to the full in front of the camera. And this is the relationship development (secret affair) between Nandor and Guillermo that ran its course and has been cooked in the background during the sixth season.
[Sorry in advance for grammar mistakes and typos. English is not my first language]
The first hint is alreay in the first episode!
Nandor necessarily has to emphasize that he hasn’t seen Guillermo since he left, and Guillermo immediately throws in that he is telling the truth. But Nadja seems already to know what’s going on between these two idiots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Nandor trying to help Guillermo by searching for a flat and then suggest him to move into the VERY NEAR garden shed… A practical temporary solution if you don't want to be disturbed by the other housemates. I can well imagine that Nandor already thought of a better place for the two of them at this time. *Caugh* Secret underground lair *Caugh*
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
What about Nandor having a crush on the Guide?
... did he really ever have that, though?😏 What if Nandor’s crush on the Guide was made up by himself just for the documentary to distract the crew/viewers from himself and Guillermo, so that they don't keep following them to catch some shots? Yes, I know Nandor’s sudden crush on the Guide was at first caused by the sleep hypnosis… But for Nadja, the hypnosis seemed like a dream… Perhaps Nandor also thought he had dreamt that he suddenly had a crush on the Guide (or maybe Guillermo just told him) and Nandor was like: “You know what? That’s perfect! I use this to distract the doc crew and viewers from me and Guillermo!”
Nandor had one or more love interest in almost every season that he had a crush on. Why should it be any different now?
Due to this the film crew weren’t focussed on following them and wouldn’t wondering if Nandor could actually have something going on with Guillermo. Nandor’s crush on the Guide in general seemed very odd and just pretended for the camera/viewers. Over time, it seemed to appear more and more obviously and artificially.
Tumblr media
In E4 "The Railroad" before Nandor said goodbye to the Guide, he looked suspiciously over his shoulder before making his flirtatious move towards her. It seemed as if he was aiming at it. Shouldn't he have been eyeing up his crush instead of making sure he was filmed flirting?
Tumblr media
In E7 "March Mandess" Nandor looked very obviously into the camera during the scene used for the flashback, while Nandor is talking to Charmaine about the guide.
I also wonder why it was so important to Nandor that Charmaine would keep the thing of him and the guide to herself. Cause it’s made up and he just mentioned that he would has a crush on someone so that the film crew could add flashback? Generally, threatening to kill her in her sleep just because of that felt a bit too excessive, doesn’t it?
When the Guide finally rejects him perfectly in E9 “Come Out and Play” (you go, Girl!), Nandor seemed to fully ignore her destruction she has thrown at him.
Tumblr media
He purposely ignored what she said. Even though he is normally so easily outraged. Especially after these true words that his supposedly "big love" said to him, he should’ve been at least a bit upset.
Just remember how devastated he was, when Gail rejects him, and she had rejected him way more nicely.
And please just directly compare Nandor’s “look of love” towards the Guide with how he looked at Guillermo in E3…
Tumblr media
And the Oscar-worthy performance, in which Nandor fell on his knees saying overdramatically that the Baron should take his life instead of the Guide seemed totally forced.
Tumblr media
Also, Nandor knew very well that the Baron wouldn't have killed anyone…
In E11 “The Finale” Nandor and the Guide is only a short topic at the beginning of the episode, when Nadja asked him if Laszlo could use some parts of the Guide for the Monster. Nandor didn't seem to be listening anyway with his mind somewhere else.
Tumblr media
After it was announced that the film crew wanted to end the documentary, he didn't even flirt or interact more intensely with the guide in the entire episode.  As if he no longer needed to fool anyone now that he knew the movie crew was leaving.
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
What about Nandor still saying mean things towards Guillermo?
I also want to cover up the thing of Nandor remaining to say mean things towards Guillermo and wiping his hand on him after the intense hand clasp cause it was a bit clamy.
I I have read criticism of it in some WWDITS negatively posts. And this opinion is valid, no question. But I could imagine that Nandor only continued to do this for the camera, or it is just a normal thing between them cause they are a very fucked up toxic couple anyway ;)
Tumblr media
Look at the slightly unsettled grin on Nandor's face when he gave towards the camera. As if he was worried that this very unusually long-lasting hand clasp could lead to more while the camera is still rolling. So, he had to come up with a quick excuse to end it. This facial expression from Nandor looking directly into the camera is so different from the looks he gave to the camera while interacting with the guide. It is just a short glace towards the lens before he puts his eyes back to Guillermo.
Tumblr media
Guillermo looked as if he was sad not to express his gratitude to Nandor the way he would like to (cause of cameras as well maybe?)
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
The Finale
Nandor was so obviously happy that the documentary crew were going to leave. He was excited to shoot B-roll footage all the time and he sassily said this when Nadja told him about Guillermo being sad about the end of the documentary:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like someone was really excited to no longer be constantly followed by the camera so that they could continue to focus on "other things"... Also, this reference to the will they/won’t they dynamic of Nandermo is insane.
Colin and Nadja suspecting Guillermo of having a secret relationship with one of the crew members could be an indirectly hint of a secret relationship with Nandor as well. @barren-heart already did this post about it which has made me to create this summary (hope you don't mind me mentioning you here :3).
Tumblr media
Nadja possibly saw Guillermo making out with someone who looks like Nandor and maybe it was actually just Nandor!
She just don’t recognised it that fast cause they might quickly disappeared somewhere OR it was just another hint from Nadja, because she knew. She had become a bit of a nandermo shipper this season ;)
In the last speech of Nandor for the documentary it was so clearly to notice that the lair is only a metaphor for Nandor’s private life with Guillermo after the film crew would be gone...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This directly glance into the camera during the speech pause... As if he explicit wanted to make clear that he wanted to say something different when the cameras would be off.
And Guillermo’s reaction during that scene is so fucking funny. He seemed to have a moment of hope that Nandor would actually reveal their affair, but no it is the superhero lair again.
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
The Final Scene
In the background, there was played the same song that was used in the pilot episode for the post-credits. I like that really much!
🎶“Tonight in the Moonlight” (Morrie Morrison Orchestra)🎶 Tonight in the moonlight When silver blends with blue We'll do the thing all lovers do Lingering on till dawn breaks through Tonight in the moonlight with you
And again that offensive look into the camera from Nandor in the middle of his speech and Guillermo trying to get something specific out of him...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If, by this time, someone still does not consider Nandermo to be canon, then I can no longer help them xD
Subtext is their thing! That's always been the case throughout all the seasons! And in such a way that it was already too subtle to be subtext.
However, even Guillermos love sick puppy eyes and his cute “What about one… one of the other reasons?" didn't caused Nandor to spit it out. He bravely continued to avoid eye contact and was trying very hard not to become weak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Guillermo said that he won’t be here anymore after Nandor would wake up, Nandor’s description of their secret lair feels forced, which again supports the thesis of an actual love cave: “But what about us joining forces and fighting crime in a coequal partnership? Operating out of a hidden underground lair accessible exclusively by a top-secret coffin elevator.”
Of course, Nandor believed that Guillermo wouldn't leave and was just putting on a show for the camera. He knows his Guillermo better than anyone else...
Tumblr media
And THIS look of Nandor’s face when he wanted Guillermo to sit with him inside his coffin comparing with a confirming deep voicing “Mm-hmm”
Tumblr media
Oh boy, as if they are going to do very spicy things in that lair...
Then finally the relevation of Nandor’s masterpiece...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the whole season Guillermo had a problem with sexual things in front of the camera while Nandor had a problem with expressing deep and meaningful feelings while the crew was filming. And because of that they prefer do both things IN THE SHADOWS!
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
So, this my view of Season 6 and the Finale and also my special tribute to my most favorute show! 🦇♥️
It has become longer than expected. Thank’s to everyone who has taken the time to read it this far!

A whole essay could be written about names in What we do in the shadows and how well they describe each character but to get to the point:
Nandor attaching The Relentless to his name, even if it’s a title he had as a human, is him being trapped in the past and the impossibilty of enjoying his existence as a vampire or as a being with emotions and not only a tyrant.
Nadja underlining that she’s from Antipaxos is her being proud of her origins and reclaiming her poverty as a sign of strength on how she can succeeds and make a name for herself but also makes her hotheaded and hides a thinly veiled insecurity.
Laszlo is a chosen name but Cravensworth is his father’s, he can never escape his family’s baggage but at the same time he uses to his advantage with what it has taught him, the privileges that come from his background, he’s also the one that has a name and a surname, integrates the best in the modern world and enjoys it the most.
My point is of course we know de la Cruz is an important surname that links Guillermo to both his Van Helsing and mexican heritage but what I’m interested in is how people use his name: to Laszlo, Nadja and sometimes Colin he’s Gizmo (a familiar at first and a friend now), to his family he’s Memo the dorky baby of the family, to his boyfriend he’s Gigi (a nickname used in 2x1 “it’s better than Gizmo” but not as good as Guillermo).
The only person that never NEVER uses a nickname is Nandor a line I really like in 2x10 is when Nandor can’t find him he looks at the camera and says “It’s Guillermo” after describing how he’s surprisingly sneaky, acts like a kid and likes to test his patience because it feels so affectionate, he doesn’t want Guillermo to be any other way and it’s important that they all get introduced to another part of Guillermo that same episode “de la Cruz” and how Nandor from then on tries to get it right to get to know that part of him, even the pronunciation, I know we make fun of ourselves for having ground level standards with Nandermo but the significance of Nandor doing his best to acknowledge that part of him and include it everytime he asks something of great importance is just so meaningful to me.
And also why my favorite line of the all the “love of my life” spiel is “I may not remember my beloved’s name” right after Nandor gets beaten by one of his wives (the same thing that happened right before he proposed to Guillermo) because it starts with the opposite of what Guillermo is and highlights that whoever gets chosen at the end won’t be anywhere near the right person and seeing how badly that ended reinforces how both Nandor and Guillermo function as characters.

Some of my rambling thoughts about tonight’s WWDITS episode - the much-anticipated S4E9: Freddie.
First thing’s first: I appreciate that they did something that none of us expected or predicted by instead of having Nandor be jealous of Freddie, he started crushing on Freddie. Honestly, I really love that Nandor has been shown to be so openly queer this season, more so than has ever been shown before in the series. And I definitely think it’s being done for a reason. I also think that there is a reason Nandor specifically latched into Freddie as well, but we’ll get to that later.
Before that, I wanted to discuss something that has really bothered me this season and came to a head this episode. It’s bad enough that Marwa had pretty much lost all of her agency and was basically brainwashed into marrying Nandor due to his wishes (which imo makes their relationship as a whole not super consensual). Now, Marwa, one of the few female characters and the only POC female character, has now (presumably) been permanently turned into an exact copy of a white british man. She has completely lost all agency, and is no longer herself. Literally.
I really loved Marwa’s character and her actress. I wanted to see more of her in the show. And as Nandor steadily removed more and more of what made her the true Marwa, myself and several others have commented on how disappointed we have been with this plotline. I know a lot of us were hoping that Marwa would be returned to her original self and would get to leave and just be her own person. But I guess Nandor would have to wish for that, and it’s episodes like these where it seems he is incapable of being anything but selfish.
However - returning to the Nandor and Guillermo discussion - I do appreciate that Guillermo stood up for himself and told Nandor to his face that what he was doing was wrong and hurtful, and I saw that during that scene you could see how taken aback Nandor was. Harvey did such a great job with his acting in this scene - it made me feel for him so much, and it’s clear the scene was intended to be extremely serious despite the comical situation. It’s been shown time and time again that Nandor does, deep down, genuinely care for Guillermo, even as early as season 1. And this season especially has gone to great lengths to show us how much Nandor values Guillermo as a person and friend.
Which brings me back to the reason Nandor immediately latched onto Freddie. Just like Guillermo said - Nandor has everything he “wants.” And yet, at the end of the day, he went and chose to turn his already extremely wish-altered “perfect” wife into an exact copy of Guillermo’s boyfriend.
My theory is this, and I’m sure many Nandermo shippers think the same: Nandor is so afraid of getting too close to Guillermo. Why? My guess is he’s afraid that things will go awry and he’ll lose Guillermo forever. But, at the same time, he (as evidenced through Marwa’s words) doesn’t know what he’d do without him. He set up this big elaborate wedding, which he was clearly trying to self-sabotage, just to keep Guillermo around. However, his feelings for Guillermo appear to be so repressed that he can’t even bring himself to hug him. So what does he do? He can’t have Guillermo? How about his boyfriend. There has to be something going on subconsciously there with Nandor.
With the way things went for Guillermo in this episode, I think that they are setting up him leaving the vamps in the finale next week. I felt for him so much this episode and I love that they didn’t trivialize his misfortune this time like they’ve done in the past. He is genuinely hurt and heartbroken. And it’s all Nandor’s fault. What reason does he have to stay?
Guess we’ll find out next week.

Thank you for tagging me @pretty-dianxia, even twice ;D (@fismoll7secinv is my main). Much love 💚
Rules: Tag nine people you want to get to know better.
Favourite colour: green 💚 tho prolly my fav combination is blue + warm sunset-like gold 💙💛 Really, I love so many colors it always feels inadequate to choose just one or two T^T I want to wrap them around my shoulders and take a bite
Currently reading: qi ye, finally ✨ Tho I’m a bit on hiatus since I went into mourning some time ago and a lot of things piled up, same with watching cql. I hope to come back to these two soon because daym was I enjoying it
Last song: hah, kinda embarrassing to admit but my own old improvisation A demon inside. I listen to it sometimes on loop as a background noise to get into a calm mood for writing, somehow inspiration often strikes for me with that
Last movie: the conjuring 3, it was okay even if quite predictable and typical for horrors. I enjoyed pretty scenes and I adore the main couple, so it was light and fun for me, not very challenging
Sweet, Savoury, or Spicy: spicy 🌶 I can’t handle too much sweetness and savoury is a no <3 (vegetarian 🌿)
Currently working on: fjvhbdkv SO MUCH, I have around 30 ideas in drafts and like 10 wips 😭 Among these are poems, fics, and memes. But the most recent things I touched would be a short drabble for one person who followed me and was instantly attacked with a message if they have requests because I felt like it ;D I am so sorry for taking so long, I will get back to it soon T-T Another thing was some fengqing (or more like qingfeng xd) short make-out session lmao. I’m also taking part in mxtx big bang where am beta-ing a fun fic for a fun person 💚 There is also one artist who I asked if I could share their beautiful art here but never actually got to it and it’s been months?? since then. Plus I have so many artists to catch up on here. Also another semester on my uni started and projects are soon due. And at work we’re reaching a deadline for a huge project where I’m leading a big portion of it so I sometimes stay late at work and end up v tired.
So yeah, I have a lot of responsibilities and promises while my free time is very short, so all of these private and creative things take up whatever tiny bit of strength and time I have and thus take so painfully long :’) I don't remember the last time when I had much time for myself instead of helping someone out or doing responsibilities or just lying mindlessly because of exhaustion xdd so ye that's one of the reasons why I'm significantly less active and not up to date in the fandom recently. But I’ll manage
Edit: oh yeah also that one nandermo ficlet bc I acquited a new brainrot recently akejbrbdbd
Tagging: @qd-archives @pomodoroidk @orchisailsa @linaflorow @snake-and-mouse @wrrinkl @vitaminbean @ashenlights @apocalyptickoala @uweiy ofc if u feel like it

Dean falling for Cas as a trans man and his struggles growing up with a father who said that men who like men aren't men at all are made worse bc as he falls for this angel he feels like he has to choose between Cas and his own identity as a man in the literal sense, and he was raised with a toxic view that love should always come first, and therefore falling for a man must inherently make him a woman so loving Cas means rejecting his own sense of self send tweet

Good morning all, I wrote a nandermo fic
Tumblr media
Guillermo pauses, eyes wide. He tries to say something. He can’t.
“I killed a man because he made me angry. I have done this— many times.”
“That’s— that’s a mortal sin, you—“
“I do not wish to be absolved. I want to know why. Why do I feel this… this ache where my soul should be?”
Guillermo’s breath shakes as he exhales. The grate is thin, so thin that a determined man could crash through it and wrap hands around his neck, force the life out of him. “You feel guilt.”
“Why now? Why at all? Why— fuck-ing hell.” The last bit comes out as a pained gasp, and Guillermo can see the man’s head duck, his shoulders hunch. “Can we do this outside? It hurts in here.”
Read it here!

Omg canon-compliant where Sam is dating some girl after the hell-ending of s15, and they're out on a date and the bartender brings them two drinks, one green one blue, and she laughs softly and says, "Cas and Dean."
Sam chokes on nothing, because he hasn't told her about his past yet, and he says "Excuse me?" She admits to being into the Supernatural books, talks about the hiatus until the final ones came out, and Sam is angry with Chuck for just a moment before realizing Chuck had to find a living somehow, and the girl says "It's a real shame, though. That ending made me cry." And Sam is about to say something about Dean dying being sad, yeah, but then she continues, "Dean never got to say it back."
And Sam is confused, because Dean never told him what happened, not really, and so he lies slyly, "What happened? I used to be really into those books, but I haven't read the final one yet."
And she says, "Well, you know how Dean fell in love with Castiel in Purgatory?" And no, no Sam did not know but she continues, "It turns out Castiel had loved him too, all these years, and he told Dean as much. There at the end. And because he was finally happy, admitting his feelings, the Empty took him before Dean could say he loved him back."
And oh, oh wasn't Sam an ass, oh how did he never realize--
"But I'm hoping for an epilogue," she says, "because I know Sam will bust Castiel out of the Empty. There's no way he won't."
And bust him out? Sam can't really do that. But maybe he can adjust Castiel a bit, not so much bust him out as... push him over to Heaven, instead.
Yeah, Sam thinks as he takes a sip of his blue lagoon, that's what I'll do.
The rest is up to Dean.

Here's your unfriendly reminder that Charlie Bradbury died on May 6, 2015, just 51 days before June 26, 2015... the day same-sex marriage was legalized in the US.

okay so I didn’t plan on sending another anon after that long ass last one but now that I’m unfollowing all these wwdits accounts i feel like I have to get this off my chest, as incredibly dumb as it is. I originally found the show because my mom started it and, to spend time more together, I watched it with her. we binged it so fast and my mom has had the biggest crush on kayvan since the first episode. to the point where I thought it’d be hilarious to photoshop his face onto a painting of Jesus, frame it, and give to her as a Christmas gift. (the punchline would be that our giant Catholic family would definitely think it was just a realistic photo of Jesus, hang it up, and it’d be a private joke between the two of us.) i honestly have no idea why I’m writing this apart from the fact I feel like I’m in a confessional and i can’t believe I put so many hours into making the damn thing just to look at it and feel so shitty. anyway, thanks for listening to my ted talk. I hope all goes well with your Instagram account!! I’m gonna go figure out what to do with this useless frame
tell me all your sins, my child (jk but if i was a priest i feel like we'd all be much weirder as a society)
but i absolutely get that feeling. i was writing a nandermo fic and spent quite a while on just the introduction, but for the time being i don't really want to look at it at all.
it's not actually my instagram account but i hope the same to @tarotsdeck that it picks up steam and more people are exposed to the situation, and that it does get to someone in charge on the show. and hey if all else fails just hang the frame with a really shitty marker portrait in it, the juxtaposition would be magnifique

October 2020 NYCC - What We Do in The Shadows panel
We did learn a little bit more about the upcoming Season 3 in this panel! Things bolded are relevant to S3 (**potential spoilers ahead under the cut!**)
Video can be found here [ X ]
Tumblr media
Kathryn VanArendonk (a critic for Vulture) was the moderator for the panel and was joined by Mark (Colin Robinson), Kayvan (Nandor), Harvey (Guillermo), Matt (Laszlo), Natasia (Nadja), as well as showwriter Stefani Robinson and producer/writer Paul Simms. Kathryn wrote this article about the show if you would like to read it.
Details below under the cut --->
Kathryn asked what each of their character would be doing in quarantine and how they would be handling COVID-19:
Kayvan: He immediately says there would be a strain between Nandor and Guillermo, especially with there being a lack of victims for him to eat. Nandor would make Guillermo order LOTS of delivery and eat the delivery workers.
Harvey: it would be very awkward in the house for Guillermo particularly after the events of the season 2 finale.
Paul: Guillermo would be the only one in the house to wear a mask because he’s really the only one who cares/pays attention. The vampires would be confused/irritated by it and ask him to take off his “stupid costume”
Natasia: The vamps would probably be like the people who wear the masks under their noses if they wear them at all. They might be sort of unsympathetic and say “Oh, here we go again” having lived through many pandemics. The vamps might take advantage of everyone being at home but Guillermo might be stressed having to worry which of their victims have COVID and touching the bodies to throw them out. Harvey adds on and imagines that maybe it’s revealed that one of the vampires in the house is responsible for a different pandemic like the Spanish Flu or something to that effect.
Mark: Colin is a no-masker (for the purpose of irritating others) and getting into arguments about his constitutional rights inside stores. He’d probably be pretty hungry since he mostly feeds at the office and his coworkers would have to work at home.
Matt: They’d probably have no idea because they don’t watch the news or pay attention to current events at all
Kathryn immediately then asks about the Nandermo relationship- she asks Harvey and Kayvan if their characters love each other and how that relationship is developing.
Harvey: he started playing Guillermo with this infatuation with Nandor and that there were “blurred lines” in how he sees Nandor. He then explains that it seems kind of curious to the audience why Guillermo would continue to serve Nandor and help the vamps they continue to treat him so badly, and in Harvey’s mind, Guillermo is just driven by love and driven by emotion. He’s just very human and wants to do the right thing. (Harvey then “steals” Kayvan’s question about if Nandor is in love with Guillermo and Kayvan goes into Nandor-mode and begins to chastise Guillermo for being rude. Nandor: “Do you see what I have to put up with?”)
Kayvan: Nandor needs Guillermo and is “wrestling with his feelings” towards Guillermo. It is “heading towards a dangerous” territory for him because he “can’t be falling again after all [his] marriages”...he’s excited to see what happens next, but things are pretty “rocky” for them as of where we left them off.
My thoughts: seems like this is indicating a role-reversal of sorts in season 3, with Guillermo falling out of his infatuation with Nandor and Nandor falling in love with Guillermo?
Kathryn asks Matt about what it’s like doing the “musical” epsiode for Laszlo since he has legitimate music experience (Matt sort of laughs about her use of “legit” in regards to his music).
Matt says its essentially demo song work. It’s good fun doing short ideas for pitching these 30 second songs in the space with ‘Tasia (Natasia)
Natasia: says it was a dream to do the songs with Matt and “plant seeds” in the work space because of Matt’s musical background. She mentions that Mark had an improv moment where Colin goes on stage to join Nadja and Laszlo and begin singing/rapping. Mark says that Colin begins jokingly doing it but then we see him get more into the song and enjoying it.
Paul says that if we like the prospective idea of Colin singing, we should be excited because Colin gets a singing/song moment in season 3. Paul then says something along the lines of that he’s happy they get to do these sort of bits and that all the casts members go along with it because “We are all dedicated to being silly...and stupid in a clever way.”
Kathryn then asks the whole group what kind of scenes do they look forward to doing for their characters and which scenes they like to watch their co-stars taken on
Harvey: likes doing action stuff and getting the change to play almost like these two different personalities in Guillermo- his quieter side and his badass side! He has a fun time with all his cast mates doing scenes and watching them. He has a hard time doing some scenes with Kayvan because he makes Harvey laugh and takes him out of character.
Kayvan: he likes doing scenes with Karvey because of the “tenderness.” He also like the house meeting scenes because they spin out into something outrageous or hilarious that happens after the fact.
Natasia: she likes doing Talking Heads scenes (when the scene is just of their characters speaking to the audience and to each other like in an interview) with Matt. She also likes doing the Fancy Room scenes, scenes with other women, and scenes with Shaun/Sean the neighbor. She likes scenes where Nandor is “saying thick stuff” because of the contrast of Nandor being this fearless warrior but also really stupid. She likes scenes where Matt has to do stuff really fast or has to run because it makes her laugh.
Matt: likes doing “loose” scenes where they can do anything that they want to do with a scene. He also likes doing the Talking Heads scenes with Natasia and watching the stuntmen do stuff he’s supposed to be doing. Apparently Kayvan let out somehow that Matt is afraid of heights. Kayvan: “Did I?...you’re getting better though...”
Mark: likes opportunities to play off of what the others say. He likes watching scenes where “Matt deal with Kayvan” because Laszlo can’t stand fools even though [Nandor] is one of the biggest fools (he says Laszlo but I think he meant Nandor with the mention of Kayvan). Scenes where they belittle Guillermo and scenes with Natasia are also fun.
Then Paul said he had a special guest who could also answer this question and in popped Nadja doll into the chat in her own separate video box. They were teasing her for being “on mute” and had her answer yes/no questions by nodding her head.
Kathryn asks Stefani about debates in the writer’s room regarding vampire biology and life. She asks Stefani about what’s fun about bringing in new creatures to the show and developing the lore about the vampires.
Stefani: it’s fun but it’s also hard in the writer’s room making decisions about these sort of things. The ability to pick and choose parts of the lore, but there can be contradictions they have to deal with. She wants the lore and the aspects of their nature to come together and be grounded so that it’s fun but isn’t too ridiculous. She considers how these elements/creatures can be “show-pieces” for the characters to interact with and how they contribute to the story and how they are funny.
Stefani then notes that Jermaine was very anti-leprechaun but Paul said he tried to reason with him. They try to decide among themselves what “fits” within their world and what doesn’t but there really isn’t a specific reason for what they go with.
Paul says there will be 3-4 new kinds of creatures in season 3. But no aliens, he notes.
Natasia asks if somehow Sesame Street/Muppets would exist within their world and could make a cameo (I’m guessing because of the Count connection?) Paul jokes and says “Stefani, I don’t know what you’re doing tomorrow...but if we can schedule another meeting we could spend 6 hours making this happen.” Natasia then says she would love to see Miss Piggy and Nadja have some great chats. Same with Kermit and Nandor. Matt says he thinks Guillermo should find R2D2 buried in the garden but none of their characters recognize it.
All of season 3 is currently written. Kathryn asks about anything else they can tease for us:
Paul says there is in fact a bit of dialogue (3/4 of a page) about Kermit the frog that Natasia “accidentally came upon” (I don’t know how serious he is about this).
The vampires will go on a roadtrip! They will be traveling someplace they don’t normally go to, and the issue of having to bring soil from their homeland will be brought up
There is a birthday! It’s a big important birthday...for Colin! (maybe Colin’s song moment is him singing Happy Birthday?)
Nandor is looking for love and decides that it is time for him to find a partner
Some characters will be coming back, including Shaun/Sean the neighbor who will appear in two episodes

Fic Writer Interview
Thanks for the tag, @chelsfic!
How many works do you have on AO3?
16
What’s your total AO3 word count?
201,056 👀
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
If we’re just counting AO3, then it’s just one. What We Do in the Shadows. I’ve only had this username for a year. Under different names in different places I have other fics for other fandoms. That would bring the grand total up to 5. I tend to have huge fic dry spells.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
66 - Especially For You - Nandor/Guillermo. Gen - Gift fic for @jujubeas. Guillermo is injured (very minor) and Nandor cares for him by buying him food from Panera Bread.
44 - Tell Me Things Will Be Okay - Nandor/Guillermo. Gen - Gift fic for @riskylatte and a collaboration with @andyandnormski. Nandor tries to calm Guillermo’s frayed nerves after they arrive home from the theater massacre.
35 - The Protocols of Revenge - Nandor/Nadja that leads to Nandor/Nadja/Laszlo. NSFW - My first fic for the fandom. Laszlo makes Nadja made, so Nandor proposes revenge. Nadja eventual relents but on the condition that Laszlo watch.
33 - Just Right - Nandor/Guillermo. Gen. Gift fic for @andyandnormski. A seasonal storm spooks Guillermo, so Nandor takes matters into his own hands as far as his relaxation goes. Naturally, things go awry.
32- He Demands Satisfaction. - Nandor/Guillermo Gen. Tumblr Prompt request for @andyandnormski. Nandor and Guillermo are taking their relationship to new levels post theater massacre, but the threat of sunlight puts a damper on things.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I get so few comments on my fics these days, so I reply to them all. I understand why people don’t comment on fics, especially NSFW ones, but I love hearing from readers, even if the comment is super short. I love getting replies back from authors when I comment, so I try to do the same for anyone who comments on my fics. I like engaging with the readers.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Rooftop Reflections. Nandor/Nadja. She’s been missing Laszlo since he want on the run and tries to escape by sitting on the roof. Nandor joins her and then leaves her be. She is really bummed out at the end after Nandor leaves and has to be alone with her thoughts about Laszlo.
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I have not yet, but I’m not against.
I’ve been wanting do a weird one with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/What We Do in the Shadows. They’re both in NYC, and they both have to keep to the shadows, so it makes sense that they’d run into each other. Leonardo vs. Nandor as leaders, lol. Donatello and Colin Robinson getting into technical details about topics. Raphael and Nadja being just the rudest. Micaelangelo and Laszlo straight up chillin’. And Master Splinter and Guillermo shaking their head at their charges acting like such fools.
I’ve also thought about them running away to Canada and meeting the crew from Letterkenny.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
When I was writing HP, yes. It was mainly about how I was ending my chapters, and to be fair, the endings were not great for what I was trying to achieve (setting up some context - kind of omncient). I’m pretty sure I’ve deleted all of those from existence now.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Most definitely. I’ve written mainly mlw and wlw with reference to mlm. I’ve also written OT3 situations with mmw.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of. How does that even happen?
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes.
I mentioned Tell Me Things will be okay earlier. Andy and I were very equal partners on that one and it was fun take their lead and then run with it and then see what they came up with next.
Nandor the Relentless: Conqueror of Courting. Nandor/Guillermo. A round robin fic where ideas were thrown out and shaped as a team. Nandor tries to court Guillermo in one-sided fake dating scenarios to protect him. I contributed to the last chapter of this gem of a fic series. I’m really proud that Nandor’s lament of the Windsor name was kept in.
Shoot Your Shot. Fendermo. Another round robin known by the writers as the Basketball AU. Nandor is a WNBA pro and Guillermo is her assistant. They’re even stupider in this story than in the show. It’s not complete, but one day we’ll finish it. I’m really proud of the text chain I wrote in the first chapter.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I know nearly all the stories I’ve talked about are Nandermo, but that’s not my all time favorite ship. I don’t know if I can really pick a favorite. It’s just Nandor/Anyone really.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
A Chance Encounter. Nandor/Silvia de la Cruz (Guillermo’s mom). NSFW. I’m only afraid I won’t finish it because I’m stuck on the next part for how the story should flow now that the smut is out of the way.
What are your writing strengths?
I’ve been told that I’m good and smooth dialogue.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I think I use the same descriptive language too much. The same facial expressions and dialogue reactions. I also need to work on differentiating my imagery and adding more figurative language to my stories. I love seeing that in other people’s works, but suddenly forget to do it in my own.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I love to see it, or even incorporating English language learning sentence structures into fics for characters whose primary language is not English. When I write in another language, I have had a friend who can speak that language check my work and phrasing to make it sound realistic. There was a lot of that in A Chance Encounter and @theoceanismyinkwell was immensely helpful with the Spanish dialogue and the Spanish Speaker in speaking in English lines too.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The first one I ever published on a fic site was Gundam Wing. I really hope that is not floating around still as I can’t even remember the site it was pubished on. It was peak cringe.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
It’s not complete, but Written in the Stars has consumed an epic amount of my time. The word count alone is two novels worth. It’s been fun to look into Nandor’s past, but also make him somewhat of a softie at that time too for a fic that could be otherwise very dark (there are defintely some mildly dark elements, but it’s generally just regular flavor NSFW). And it’s fun to take a semi-canon character who has one trait and flesh her out into a full person. At least I hope she comes across that way.
Tagging: @safetyhazardfics
@walkwithursus
@andyandnormski
@mapnerdbloodbag
@satincowboys
