Whumpuary Prompt 8
Hostage/”You Look Awful”
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from The Nighttime Fear
Being captured by the Empire is the last thing any of them need right now. He needs to find a way out, but he’ll have to wait until there’s a chance of it. Probably, his brothers will be back soon – and that’s assuming Crosshair doesn’t beat them to it.
Which he does.
Crosshair’s in all black the same way he was in Hunter’s vision, and the… armor, or whatever it is, looks too tight and wrong on him. It makes him look even thinner than he already is, and he looks…
Hunter’s heart clenches tightly, painfully. Crosshair is… Dark now. They left him to that. Hunter can feel the Darkness radiating off him in rushing waves, the itching, burning desire to hurt. It’s a rage far stronger than he’s ever held before, something burning and dangerous enough to rip something to pieces without a shred of remorse.
What happened to him?
He’s so – thin. When was the last time he ate? He looks awful.
His eyes are gold, and it looks wrong. Almost terrifying. They’re icy. Merciless. He didn’t look like that when they fought on Kamino, and that was the darkest Hunter has ever seen him. He doesn’t mean to be scared, but he is.
The area around his eyes is dark, too, and Hunter has no idea if that’s from not sleeping or from the Dark Side. It could be either as much as the other.
There’s a scar on the side of his head now, and Hunter has no idea what could’ve caused it. It looks like… something burned across it, and the skin never really healed over it – it’s a rippling, twisted, horribly scarred burn spot, and Hunter could bet on all the worth of the Marauder that it wasn’t treated for a while after he got it.
Hunter is also going to murder whoever did that to him. Brutally.
Hunter can think of a million things to say when he sees him. “You look awful,” he says instead of any of them.

Hey,
The pigeon keeper chronicles please, phoenix’s are one of my favourite mythical creatures and I just love how nikola is obsessed with them.
Hello! Oh, I didn't know you'd read it, I'm glad you enjoy! ^^ __
The premise for the series is Helen and Nikola are together post-series and Nikola has obtained a flock of pigeon-sized phoenixes and even smaller dragons. I'm intending this to be at least an eight-part series (might be more, I am not known from my self-restraint) of Helen and Nikola going through their relationship, with Nikola's flock in tow (Hence 'The Pigeon Keeper Chronicles'). The original few pieces are based on Whumpuary prompts and I've been building up to them. There's going to be love and fluff and angst and whump galore throughout this series.
__
Snippet from The Pigeon Keeper Chronicles Part 3 _
Nikola walked over to her and placed his hands gently on her hips, smiling at her and bending his head to kiss her gently. Helen smiled faintly at this, though she was still getting used to it, something she chided herself on.
"Then what is it?"
"Your flock."
Nikola drew back and eyed her warily.
"What about them?"
"They're causing problems, Nikola."
"Not for me." Nikola said, eyebrows drawing together.
"Well..."
That was true. Helen knew that she couldn't argue with that. The phoenixes and the dragons--though the dragons didn't like Nikola as much as the birds did--were well behaved when it came to her vampire.
It was everyone else that was having the problems. And he knew about it. But it was just like Nikola to be puzzled why anyone would see a problem if he wasn't experiencing it himself.
"Another fire in the gardens, Nikola. Another dispute with the residents. Another dragon in my tea."
"Oh, we certainly can't have dragons in the tea. The rules of the world must be snapping."
Nikola bent to look at what looked like a bulkier version of the cuff for the vampire shield, the phoenix on his shoulder shifting effortlessly so that it didn't fall off.
"Nikola."
"What are we supposed to do, Helen?" he cocked a brow at her. "We can't put them back where we found them--the other abnormals have most likely already finished claiming their territory. Putting them in a cage didn't work."
"It wasn't a cage." Helen said patiently.
Nikola gave her a look as he kept tinkering with his invention.
"You let residents adjust before judging them. Why is the flock different?"
"Because they keep setting my house and residents on fire."
"Come now, Helen, you've dealt with far worse."
The grin he gave her made Helen force her face into a scowl. She needed to have a firm hand when it came to dealing with Nikola. And when it came to his flock.
Nikola straightened again and faced her, smiling lazily now.
Helen found herself responding to that smile before she could stop herself and Nikola laughed.
"They're not improving their behavior. They may be wild animals, but they are also abnormals."
Which meant that they had a higher intelligence than their normal counterparts and should have improved their behavior at this point, considering how many corrections there had been.
All of the Sanctuary's residents needed to be in general harmony with one another and the phoenixes and dragons were throwing that harmony off. It may not have seemed like it was that big of a deal, but when it went on for weeks, that was an entirely different matter.

Whumpuary Alt Prompt 8
Fight
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Leap of Faith
For a moment, everything freezes, and then, Crosshair unslings his rifle, aiming it. “Drop her,” he snarls, and Omega has never heard him so furious before, not even on Kamino when he and Hunter kept arguing.
The two men not holding her still, and then, one of them lunges for the blaster that they wrestled from her. A blaster bolt slices through the air, hitting him in the chest. He drops, dead.
“Anyone else?” Crosshair’s voice is low, dangerous, and if Omega didn’t know him, she would be terrified by him.
Maybe they don’t understand the warning note in his voice because they don’t back down, even though one of their own was just killed. Idiots. Instead, the man holding her reaches for a weapon of his own, but as his grip loosens, Omega slams her body weight into him, throwing him off balance enough for her to pull away. She darts towards the end of the alley, hearing shuffling behind her.
“Duck,” he orders, and she obeys immediately, rolling into a crouch, back to the wall. A blaster bolt flies over her head, right past where she just was, and Crosshair fires twice in rapid succession, dropping both of the men where they stand. He slings his rifle back over his shoulder, walking down the alley to retrieve his blaster.
“Are you alright?” he asks, stopping in front of her.
She stands, shakily, nodding. “They didn’t hurt me,” she promises.
“We need to move out. I hired a transport. The pilot is waiting on a platform not far from here.” He reaches out, hesitating for a moment, before taking her hand. “Can’t have you getting lost,” he says, though Omega can’t help but wonder if that’s really it. She can’t help but wonder if he was terrified for her, if he wants the reassurance that she’s safe.
But she doesn’t ask, because she knows he isn’t ready for questions like that. Instead, she squeezes his hand, and lets him guide her towards their destination.

Whumpuary Prompt 8
“Don’t Move”
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Leap of Faith
They walk for a while, Omega looking all around, taking in the sights. There are so many people here, that it’s easy to get lost in the crowd, which is both a good and bad thing. It means that they can disappear here and hopefully lose their Imperial pursuers who are undoubtedly following them.
Finally, Crosshair stops in front of a market stand and procures a hooded cloak for her, handing it to her with a simple, “You need to blend in.”
The navy blue is a good disguise, Omega has to admit, pulling the hood up over her head, because it’s dark in color, and it helps her blend into the shadows. Most people ignore them, or give them a wide berth, probably because Crosshair looks like a soldier. He radiates a dangerous energy that scares other people off… and makes her feel safe.
He pulls her into an alley, next to a building from which she can hear music and loud talking. A cantina of some sort, then. “Stay here. Don’t move. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay,” she agrees, pressing back into the shadows, against the rough wall behind her.
Crosshair pulls out a blaster, passing it to her. He doesn’t need to say anything for her to understand. This is a dangerous planet, and it’s not safe for her to be alone and unarmed. She nods at him, and he disappears back into the street.
Once he’s gone, she feels terribly alone. And scared. She’s so used to having her brothers with her, hovering over her, protecting her. Being away from them is terrifying, but Crosshair’s presence has made that fear ebb away. But it’s back now in full-force, and Omega swallows, tightening her grip on the blaster and hoping that she won’t have to use it. Her brother will protect her, of course, but… he’s not here right now.
