『07.10.18』 I’m already halfway through my internship, and it really is a game changer for me as to what career I want to take. On the contrary, I haven’t been satisfied with my desk situation lately and I plan to decorate it well. I’ve already started yesterday, but there’s still a looong way to go! . 「Quick tip: Make sure you are blinking enough and closing your eyes periodically when you’re spending a lot of time facing the computer screen. 」

*~*~*~STUDY BREAK SNACKS~*~*~* (art by maria-putri ✨)
apple chips - preheat oven to 225 F - slice apples as thin as possible - sprinkle some cinnamon/cinnamon sugar on the apples (optional) - (works best on a baking rack) place on tray and put in over for 1-2 hrs (you might need to cook them for longer depending on the thickness of your chips!)
sweet crispy roasted chickpeas - preheat oven to 375 F - rinse and drain chickpeas - place chickpeas on baking tray and bake for about 45min - 1 hr - in a bowl, mix olive oil, honey, and cinnamon sugar (you can eyeball the measurements and change it to your personal preference) - once the chickpeas are dry, put them into the bowl that holds the sweet sauce and mix it all in. - once you are done coating the chickpeas, place them back in the oven for 10 mins
savory crispy roasted chickpeas - follow the sweet crispy roasted chickpeas but replace the sauce with olive oil, sriracha, and garlic powder
frozen yogurt berries - take a spoon and dump your yogurt yogurt into your mold (you can use an ice tray) - add berries into your mold (i like blueberries, raspberries, and black raspberries) - freeze!
apple sandwiches - core your green apple and red apple (it’s okay if you only have one kind) - cut the apples! semi-thick so the slices are durable - add nutella (or peanut butter!) on one side of the apple slice - sprinkle on some oats on top of the spread - sandwich them together!
avocado toast - toast your choice of bread - in a bowl mush your avocado - once the toast is finishes, spread your mushed avocado on the bread - squeeze a bit of lemon onto the toast + avocado and sprinkle chili and pepper!
ants on celery - take celery sticks and spread peanut butter on the inside - place raisins (or choco chips!) on top of the peanut butter spread
banana bee smoothie - 1 cup of milk (low fat) - 1 cup of non-fat greek yogurt - tbsp of honey (OR MORE) - 1 ripe banana - handful of blueberries - pinch of cinnamon! - BLEND
sweet apple banana smoothie (my fav ✨) - 1 sliced apple (preferably any sweet apple) - 1 ripe banana - a tbsp honey - 1 cup of low fat milk - a pinch of cinnamon sugar - BLEND
messy simple fruit bowl - 1 sliced ripe banana - a handful of blueberries - place fruits into a bowl and drizzle with honey on top o’fruity rice cakes! - spread peanut butter onto ricecake - place sliced fruit on top (you can use bananas, strawberries, blueberries, etc) - drizzle with honey (optional)

some test-taking tips that might help all of you~
1. purchase at least one practice book and review everything. don’t assume that you know it until you read through and are able to understand everything you read. do practice problems and the supplemental test questions they provide. highlight anything you didn’t know so that you can review it multiple times. a review that really sticks the information into your head is the best type of review, and you can only achieve that when you read it many times! many books will focus on different things, so if money permits, buy another one!
2. make flash cards. even math has definitions you need to know. you have to be able to understand every question in order to score well, and to understand the questions, you need to know the vocabulary. flashcards with history dates, information on chemistry, and biology terms are examples of helpful ways flash cards are easy study tools! quizlet and some other great websites really help with studying vocabulary!
3. take practice tests. practice tests will provide you advantages like: -knowing the test format -an idea of timing -comfortability on answering questions
seriously take tests and time yourself. you’ll know where you stand and how much time you have to spend on certain topics. you can also get a lot of anxiety out of the actual test because you will be very familiar with the testing format!
4. collab with your teachers.
if you ask them questions pertaining to the subject test/topic, chances are your teacher’s going to give you more than you need, which will ease the stress when you’re answering questions. the more you know, the less stress you’ll have, which will really help you do well.
5. don’t be scared. being scared will lower your confidence and increase your anxiety. if you start to panic, you will not be able to think properly. you want to have a clear mind before you start, while you test, and afterwards. therefore, practicing and having confidence will really help!
6. study with friends. studying with others will really help you because others will provide you with lots of resources that sometimes cannot be found online! they will be able to teach you the concepts and quiz you with vocabulary and stats.
7. record your progress! write down what you’ve studied and your level of comfortability with it. this will allow you to observe yourself and slowly build your confidence. you will also be able to gauge how much you do not know. this will force you to study and focus on everything you need to accomplish.
8. plan a reward for after the test. you will seriously want to do well if you promise yourself a gift or a break after acing the exam! i promised to buy myself plants if i did well, and it really motivated me to so well! it really works, especially if you bribe yourself with things you really, really want.
9. have confidence. this is kind of similar to step 5, but it needs to be said! after all this practice and collab work, you’re going to do great! review last minute equations, terms, and concepts the day before going into the test. you will absolutely be fine if you get good sleep, good practice, and confidence.
some things you should bring with you on the standardized testing day:
10. a snack. there will be breaks in between tests/sections. you want to bring a fruit or light snack that will be easy to eat and clean up. fruits are the best option because they will also keep you active!
water. water seems to wake me up when i need a kicker. water will keep your brain-juices flowing! all the concentration you need will flow right back in when you take a sip, trust me!
a sweatshirt. You do not want to be cold and nervous at the same time! if you’re hot, you can take it off, but shivering while trying to solve a math problem or comprehending a shakespeare sonnet will hurt you, not help you!
back up calculator. just do it if you’ve got one! i remember someone bringing an “illegal for testing” calculator and they had to take the test without one. you don’t want it dying in the middle of the test, either.
lots and lots of HB #2 pencils, a large eraser, a silent hand sharpener, and a pen (if it’s the ap exams etc.)
confidence, your brain, all the practice you’ve done!
i really hope all these tips help you guys!!i know i’ve needed these tips to help me, so i’m sharing what’s helped me in the past! any juniors or sophomores worrying about the past, sat, or act, use these wisely! i wish all of you good luck!

For Amy (@chocolates-and-cream) who asked:
Hey! First of all, I freaking love your blog and second, I need some help getting my life organised. Do you by any chance know some apps that are like planners/agendas I can use? Thanks in advance! :))))) -amy xx
Thank you so much! Here’s a few apps and extensions which I’ve found useful to sort my daily trainwreck of tasks…
APPS TO GET YOUR LIFE SORTED
Google Calendar
If you have a gmail account (who doesn’t? rip hotmail you were too good to me) this is the one for you. You can sync all your events across all platforms (ty google) including your phone, laptop, basically anything that enables you to log onto your gmail account. You can enable alarms and desktop notifications alerting you to important deadlines and events or alternatively, an email will be sent to your inbox. You can colour code/ sort all your events aswell (e.g. “school”, “subject A, subject B, subject C”, “home”, “work”)
With every event you can include;
+time +location (TY GOOGLE MAPS) and it can estimate your ETA +alerts +communicate to other invitees
Thanks to the juggernaut which is google (+google accounts) you can easily share your calendar with your contacts. This is particularly useful if you’re co-ordinating group projects or managing a team. Its much easier to invite your contacts to your events, given that you have immediate access to your entire email contact list/groups.
One of my favourite things about google calendar is that it’s so easy to import and export your calendar. You won’t have to worry about losing your data or scheduled events if you get a new phone/laptop etc. Its all on you google account. Perks!
iCal
If you’ve sacrificed your first born to apple (as I have) this is the app for you. Think of it as google calendar, for apple. They share heaps of similar features.
Basically, iCal syncs all your events, deadlines (+ optional public holidays etc) across all platforms. There’s a daily, weekly and monthly view and it’s relatively easy to use. You can categorise each event (e.g. I have a sep colour for each subject). I love that you can add notes, attachments and links to every event. I usually attach the event flyer to the event so that I can have easy access to the dress code/ additional info handy. You can also add a google maps location to every event - be lost no more!
THE FEATURE THAT HAS SAVED MY ASS COUNTLESS TIMES IS the alert system which will send an email or a notification on your device prior to the event. If you set an alarm, it’ll simultaneously scream at you from all your devices (and your inbox, if you want).
As an added bonus, you can sync a bunch of other events from other apps (e.g. your google calendar).
Note: I find iCal convenient (despite its limitations) as most of my devices run on iOS/ Mac OSX. If you’re smart and haven’t outsourced your life to apple, obv a lot of the above will not apply.
Remember the Milk
Remember the Milk basically does what Google Calendar and iCal does with a few added features. You can ‘tag’ each event with things like “to do”, “priority”, “tomorrow” etc. This is incredibly handy esp with the advanced search function. Similarly to the above apps, you can receive notifications alerting you to upcoming deadlines etc across all platforms.
I absolutely love the “create lists” function. If you have a penchant for lists, Remember the Milk lets you create a to do list etc and then break it down into subtasks!
Note: You can import all your tasks from google calendar etc into Remember the Milk. This makes it incredibly easy to set up and to sync tasks.
Lanes
The new Lanes update has a handy weekly planner. You can make a daily 'to do list’ or you can customise your own lists. Simply drag and drop to reorganise your tasks! Super handy if you need to reorganise your week.
My favourite feature is the 'Pomodoro’ tab. Lanes will automatically program your to do list into a timed Pomodoro session!
Note: Lanes is a chrome extension, not a stand-alone app.
Planner
Planner covers all the essentials the apps above can - notifications, lists, sub lists, you name it. All with the benefit of colour coding! One of its standout features is the project organisation + notes section. You can sort your to do list by each project (handy if you’ve got concurrent projects) and write detailed notes for each task.
Note: The free version is extremely limited. There’s no week view, search function and doesn’t have a project function.
One Note
For daily lists on the go or notes, I highly recommend One Note. The 'list function’ on the mobile app automatically generates a checklist style list for all your tasks, and there’s an inbuilt tagging system (important/remember for later/ highlight etc) on the desktop version.

How to make a stress free exam study plan
Step 1: be present, be mindful.
Understand what you want, what is worth the fight.
And what I mean by that is finding your true motive (whether it is passion for what you’re learning or passing a class), because often we strive towards this perception of success that doesn’t feel like success. It feels like you are constantly under a spotlight and constantly having to prove yourself to others.
High grades make you feel good but that’s nothing compared to being happy with yourself and with what you’re doing. So make that distinguishment.
Step 2: be very practical and realistic.
What do you have to do and in how much time? Divide tasks by the period of time, without letting stress blur out that mindfulness, through method and simplicity.
Step 3: Be disciplined the following days until the exam without getting too strict with yourself.
“What is soft is strong.” (Lao Tzu)
Strive to create softness and ease throughout the days, get your tasks done but find time for play, rest, presence of mind.
Avoid overworking by starting early or as soon as you can and by working smartly and doing the most important things first, even if you’ve been dreading them.
Bonus Step:
honestly as I’m advancing through my academic years the more I understand you owe nothing to anyone. Good grades come from hard work and perseverance. If we found mindfulness and softness in our academic journeys the less sadness and depression symptoms we would see in our colleagues and in ourselves. Not everything is about the numbers. ❤

As many of you are getting closer to the finals, I thought it might be helpful to post about some apps that are really helpful for me - and more students. @masterpost @studyblrmasterposts
You’ll thank me later hehe
So, let’s start with my faves:
Productivity
Can’t concentrate? Your phone only distracts you because… Oh, wait, a new snap from my best friend…
Yeah, you know what I’m trying to say: If you are struggling with focusing on one thing and you get distracted fast - this app is gonna save your ass.
It works pretty simply:
There’s a tree, k? A smol lil tree. And this tree can only grow with your help - that means that it grows if you don’t open any apps on your phone during a certain amount of time (which you decide). If you open an app (which isn’t on your Whitelist) - your tree dies. Yep. You’re a monster. You killed an innocent tree.
“But… But I don’t want to be a killer..!” you say. Well, if you really stay focused, your lil tree will grow and become a big tree. And guess what - you’ll earn some coins. Which let you buy new trees - ähm - forms.
Can be installed on a laptop, too.
(Text me, if you want to create a so-called room - it’s a multi-player option for focusing together, which is only available for pro version, but it’s pretty cool!)
Flashcards (Review)
I’m still crying because of the smol, dead tree. But how can I explain my French friend that the tree is dead… oh, and his cat too?
For revising vocab or learning brand new stuff it is possible to learn with Quizlet. This app makes it possible to create your own flashcards or search through flashcards from other users. If Philippe has a better french flashcard map than you, it’s pretty obvious that you should use his.
There are cool methods you can use (they may not all be able to use while on a smartphone), e.g. matching pairs, flashcards revision, and more great stuff!
Works on Laptop and on mobile devices.
Practice (Exchange)
Well, now that you have mastered the basic skills of writing some words and so on, you'll need to practice this with someone else than your poor dog.
I mean, come on, he cannot not listen.
So, that means that you’ll need to write and maybe even talk to somebody who is able to correct you and won’t bark all the time or bite you. “Speaky” allows you to do both - nope, I'm not talking ‘bout barking and biting. With “Speaky” you can search speakers of your preferred language and lets you write them a message. If they accept your request (I mean, you’re not a creep, right?), you will be able to chat. If you make a mistake they can use the function which can correct your message in a very visible way - the red part is the false one and the green one is the corrected sentence.
But writing is not everything - it’s called “Speaky”, right? Well, then let’s just try voice mail! :D It’s a great tool, even if you need to be in a quiet place - Nah, please not your bathroom, k?
This app is available on laptop, too.
(Oh, and don’t forget - it’s a win-win situation if you offer your help there to someone who wants to learn your language.)
More apps coming soon!

If you’re anything like me, you’re a chronic procrastinator and you’re maybe a little bit lazy sometimes! I used to be terrible–ignoring important work I knew was due soon even–but have since improved a lot by doing these things.
Read a lot: Reading lots of books and articles, especially ones that challenge you, forces you to focus for a long period of time. For me, these periods of focus got longer and longer over time with practise. You’ll also have to finish a project that doesn’t supply instant gratification. Having a reward (finishing) that only comes after a lot of hard work was (and is!) important to me, because it trained my brain to not expect things so quickly. Plus, who doesn’t love books?
No zero days: I sometimes see that this is bad advice for mentally ill students. You know you best! Always go with what you think is best for you. But, as a mentally ill student, I actually found the concept of no zero days extremely powerful as a means to gain discipline and stay productive. I only forced myself to work for five minutes every day. On bad days that was all I did, but I got into the habit of doing something, which was important. Most days I worked for at least half an hour!
Have a job or large project on the side: If you have the free time, I highly recommend getting a job or finding another project that you’d like to work on. Even in the best jobs for you, there will be days when you don’t want to go. When I have to go to work on days I don’t want to, I’m establishing discipline that can be applied to my academic life. Plus, the change of scenery and extra cash are nice!
Make challenges for yourself: I use Habitica for this. Basically, I’ll take a long term project of some sort and break it into smaller tasks, tick off boxes as I go, and get a sense of accomplishment when the challenge is complete. It’s more fun and better for long term projects than just a to-do list, and it (again) instills in me that good things come to those who work hard consistently, not just when there’s instant gratification to be found. You can start these challenges off small, then build up to larger ones. The important things are that they’re actually challenging to you at the time of making them, and that you actually complete them. And, if you complete a challenge, you might want to….
Reward yourself: You deserve it when you work hard! I reward for completion and for diligence. For example, if I’m really depressed, and I do more than the minimum five minutes of work, I reward myself with a trip to the café, or something nice for dinner. If I complete something I rent a film and have a relaxing night, or take a bubble bath. This just makes me associate working with nice things!
Hopefully some of these tips are helpful to you. Diligence pays off in establishing good habits! I’ve got a long way to go, but I’ve improved my discipline and focus so much in the past year doing these things. xxx
