Whumper overestimates how much torture Whumpee can take. The once-defiant Whumpee is broken and catatonic, not speaking or reacting to anything anymore. And Whumper isn't happy about it. Though they loathe to admit it, they liked Whumpee's defiance. It was entertaining. Whumpee was entertaining. With them not speaking anymore, Whumper realizes that they miss the sound of Whumpee's voice. The snarky little comments, the sarcastic jokes, the curses screamed in rage.
Now Whumper is desperate to get the old Whumpee back. They're being extra "nice," giving Whumpee medical treatment and food, anything to make them go back to how they were before. Anything to fix their favorite toy.
Because like it or not, Whumper doesn't have anyone else.

Attention Whump Community!
Clogging disability tags is a massive problem that we need to address. Many tags, especially those surrounding permanent injuries, paralysis, vision loss and certain illnesses have become unusable due to being flooded with unrelated things. Yes, that includes your writing. Those tags are not for you. It's isolating, frustrating and depressing to try finding a community and other people who share your issues but all that comes up is whump, fandom shit, gifs, headcanons, etc.
I'm newly paralyzed. I have looked at many tags surrounding paralysis, trying to find support, a community, anything of people struggling with the same thing. Nothing. There's barely anything for us in the general disabilty tags. I am BEGGING you to understand and recognize how AWFUL it is.
So, I have a proposition. A tag you can and should use exclusively for disability content in whump writing. Not any other tag surrounding disability, lest you'll clog it up.
#disabled whumpee
It's tempting to use more specific tags, I get it. Due to being in the whump community myself I know #medical whump is already a tag. You have those tags. Use them. Don't use the disability tags. Don't clog up the few spaces us disabled people have.

A character who's been shot is captured by enemies/bad guys. They're bleeding badly, and their captors need them alive. The bullet is removed, and the wound is poured with alcohol and bandaged tightly - none of it is done gently, and, being tied up (and maybe gagged), they can do nothing but scream and cry out in pain while enduring the rough treatment.

Abandoned whumpee
CW: Whumper turned caretaker, injured whumpee, defiant, restrained, angst
[Previous] -- [Masterlist] -- [Next]
Whumpee awoke in their enemies infirmary.
An IV was pricking their arm and the lights were dimmed. They twitched as their wrist ached from the handcuff binding them to the bed.
"You're awake? I was getting worried about you." Whumper hummed, sitting by their bedside with a large cup of coffee. Whumpee shakily rose their hand as the handcuff clinked.
"This isn't necessary." Whumpee tiredly mumbled.
"My my, you've been awake for ten seconds and already making demands." Whumper chuckled. "But I'm afraid we're not on that level of trust yet, I can get you something for the bruise."
Whumpee tried to sit up, everything felt like it was moving in slow motion.
"I'm a w-wounded prisoner. It's not like I know my w-way around here-" Their voice hitched as their arm gave in as they collapsed. Whumper was quick to pull them up and put a pillow behind their back.
"Easy now, you're still healing. -And don't downgrade yourself, you could still pack a punch, I know how you were trained." Whumper scolded, fixing the blanket around them.
"How could you possibly know that." Whumpee squinted. Whumper ignored their question and waved someone over; they were handed something whumpee couldn't see from the bed. Whumper moved towards them whumpee tried to scamper as far as the handcuff could go.
"Hey! Hey, calm down. It's not going to hurt you." Whumper lulled, placing a plate with a full meal on their lap. "Look, it's just a peace offering."
Whumpee's face flushed with a hint of pink as they lowered their shoulders. Hospitality was the least they expected from their enemy's leader. "You're feeding me?" Whumpee tilted their head.
"Of course I'm feeding you. I saved your life, I'm not going to waste it all by starving you. Gracious, eat your dinner." Whumper scoffed.
"This is dinner? How long did you sedate me?" Whumpee suddenly perked up.
"I didn't sedate you, you were exhausted. That's just how long you slept. Now eat, you'll feel better." They nudged, taking their wrist and putting a plastic fork in whumpee's hand.
"If I didn't know any better," Whumper chuckled, "I would guess your beloved team wasn't feeding you either-"
Whumper felt movement and grabbed whumpee's arm before they attempted to plummet the fork into whumper's neck. They glared at each other as Whumpee was panting and pouring with sweat.
"Sweetheart, that is a plastic fork you're holding." Whumper glared.
"I know. But it's got three sh-sharp points and that's good enough f-for me." Whumpee grunted, still attempting to stab them. Whumper grabbed their collar and yanked them mere inches away. Whumpee pushed and tried to back-peddle as whumper held their collar.
"That was a cute try." Whumper whispered in their ear. "But you don't have the strength to fight just yet, little lamb. Should have eaten first." They plucked the fork out of Whumpee's hand and released them. Whumpee fell back and winced, holding their wound as it pulsed. They could feel the stitches underneath their shirt, staying intact at least...
"You honestly can't believe you'll keep me here like this! I don't want to be here- I'm not your pet to tease!" Whumpee shouted at them.
"You're not my pet. If you want to be that way, then sure; you're like a lamb running for the cliffs that I have to keep pulling you away from." Whumper straightened their jacket and rubbed their neck.
"You're only keeping me alive so you can torture me later, I've told you from the start I won't ever give up my team-"
"-No." Whumper cut them off.
Whumpee suddenly quieted and closed their lips. "... What do you mean no?" They quietly asked.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, your head is so full of lies it sickens me to know what they've taught you! You want to know why I stayed by your side all day? You woke up throughout the night and cried yourself right back to sleep!"
"I wasn't crying!" Whumpee sobbed, covering their face and fell silent. Whumper shut their mouth and leaned back, realizing they had corned them. "I'm sorry. I uh ... I'll give you some space. I'll come check on you later." Whumper quickly stood. They craned their head back to see whumpee was now curled on their side facing away from them.
Whumpee flinched when they heard a "clink" as the handcuff fell off their wrist. It was a feeling of pure light and relief. It was a surprising gesture, even for the stunt they pulled with the now-revoked plastic fork.
This wasn't the ruthless enemy whumpee was expecting; whumper speaks as if they know more about their own team than whumpee does. If they got trusted enough to freely walk around, they would get to find their own answers deep in the core of their enemies base.
 Perhaps this was an opportunity.

The whumper didn’t want to care about the whumpee- but nobody was looking for them, hell, some were downright happy to take their position, so the whumper couldn’t help but get attached. The change was gradual, but eventually the whumpee went from being tortured to being comforted and cared for more than they had been before their capture.

augusnippets day 21: delirium/vertigo/hallucinations THINKGINGH… cw: living weapon whumpee, delirium and hallucinating, implied conditioning and abuse —————————
Weapon frantically reaches out to the very person they’re supposed to maim, eyes hazy with tears and glazed from fever. Villain stops mid-attack, staring down at the trembling figure as they crumple to the floor. Weapon can hear the echoes of Hero’s commanding yells, but they can’t move, can’t—- they’re so useless, they can’t do the one thing they were trained to be capable of. Villain curiously nudges them with their foot like a kid playing with roadkill, their grin faltering as Weapon still continues to try and reach out. “Hero? Hh— I can be good, Hero, please,” Weapon stammers, clinging to Villain’s leg. “Don’t need more training, I’m really—” Their voice breaks off into loud sobs, burying their face into the ground. They can still hear the screams from past training, the commands in their ears. They feel Hero’s disapproving gaze, letting out another choking sob as they brace for the impact. It never comes. “It’s okay. You’re okay.” That’s not Hero’s voice. That’s… Villain lifts Weapon, carefully placing the shuddering being over their shoulder. Weapon is… far frailer than Villain imagined. The supposed unstoppable force of destruction winces slightly with every touch. “Let’s go, okay? I’ll get you all fixed up, and you can get some rest.”
Weapon nods wearily, stunned into silence by gentle words rather than piercing shrieks.

Sickfic + kidnapping whump
a whumpee that's sick before getting kidnapped
OR they come down with something during their captivity
either way we get ourselves a Carewhumper or Whumper-turned-Caretaker situation
imagine a whumpee with a cold who can't sneeze or cough through the gag and starts hyperventilating
or a whumpee with the flu or a stomach bug who's vomiting everywhere
just making whumper's job so much harder because on top of having a captive they now have to make sure the whumpee doesn't die or spread the illness to them or their henchmen before the ransom is paid/they're rescued/etc
feel free to add on!

Darling Fool
"Oh, God…" Whumpee silently muttered. Their left ankle was bruised and slightly bleeding. Their bare feet touched the rough surface of the road. They didn't have any jackets, so Whumpee hugged themselves to provide some heat for the cold weather.
But it's all worth it! They would meet Caretaker soon. Caretaker must be proud of them for finally escaping from Whumper. They couldn't wait for the warm blanket, a loving hug from Caretaker, and to sleep in their bed again.
"Huff…huff…" Whumpee leaned on the wall nearby, eyes blurry and heavy. They haven't eaten since they escaped from Whumper. The feeling of hunger slowly got to them. They could smell the delicious aroma of food from the restaurant. The sight made them drooled a little.
Whumpee continued walking. They ignored the weird and judgemental look people glance at them. Their shirt was stained with blood, their hair was messy, knees bleeding. They looked more like a homeless person rather than someone who needed help.
Their eyes perked up when they saw a public restroom. They made their way to the place and looked at their reflection in the mirror. God, they looked awful. Caretaker must be scared to see them like this. Whumpee washed their face, cleaning the dirt and stain on their shirt and skin.
They tried to smile too. It felt awkward at first, given how long it had been since they got kidnapped by Whumper. They hoped they could make the prettiest smile for Caretaker.
Whumpee walked out of the public restroom and continued their way to their house. A few people offered them a ride, but they refused in fear of being taken again. Half an hour passed, Whumpee finally arrived at their house. Excitement building inside them as they took a deep breath and knocked the door three times.
Nobody answered. Whumpee knocked again, this time they pressed the doorbell. They waited and waited but nobody came out. Anxiety rushed through them. They knocked a little louder and faster, enough to make the people inside the house feel annoyed with the infuriating sound.
They kept knocking until finally the door opened and Caretaker appeared from behind. Whumpee's eyes perked up at Caretaker, they nearly hugged them out of happiness but stopped themselves from doing so. Caretaker looked at Whumpee with a frown on their face.
"Do I…know you?"
Caretaker asked. Whumpee's face went pale when they realised Caretaker didn't recognise them. Did they look…that different?
"It's…it's me…Whumpee…" Whumpee said, they tried to move closer to Caretaker but Caretaker backed away, their index finger covering their nose. Whumpee immediately stopped walking at the action, feeling embarrassment washed over them.
"Sorry, I don't think you are the person I'm looking for." Caretaker said as they slowly went inside again when Whumpee grabbed their wrist, resulting in Caretaker slapped their face.
"Don't touch me, you creep!"
"Caretaker, it's me! Please! Don't do this to me!" Whumpee pleaded, ignoring the sting feeling on their cheek. They kept clinging to Caretaker but they just pushed them away. Whumpee hugged Caretaker by their waist, holding them tight as tears watering in their eyes.
"Please, please remember me! I'm Whumpee!"
Caretaker sighed in frustration. They looked at Whumpee with a cold gaze. "Nice acting. But just so you know, there's already a few people who pretended to be my Whumpee just to get the money I offer from the missing poster."
"But I'm the real one! I'm not lying!" Whumpee showed their smile to Caretaker, tears rolled down on their cheeks. "Look at me, Caretaker! Don't you remember my smile?" Whumpee asked hopefully. Their smile faded when Caretaker pulled out their wallet and held out a few dollars to them.
"Take this, if you are that desperate for money."
Whumpee pulled away from Caretaker. They swallowed hard as they took in the reality they were facing. Caretaker sighed as Whumpee stayed still like a rock, they put the money on the ground before going inside and closed the door. Whumpee bit their bottom lip, holding the tears in as they watched the money scattered around their bare feet.
They walked away from Caretaker's house, leaving the money untouched.
~
"Oh, dear…" Whumper said, as they looked down at Whumpee. Whumpee was laying down on the street, hugging themselves tightly to fight the cold. They looked hazy and dazed, probably from starvation. Whumper sighed softly. They crouched down in front of Whumpee and stroked their hair.
"I told you, nobody cares about you anymore except me. Why do you need to be so stubborn, hm?"
Whumper lifted Whumpee in bridal style, carried them gently as they walked to their car.
"I will give you a warm blanket and a hot shower once we get home. Okay?"
Whumpee nodded, resting their head against Whumper's chest. Whumper rubbed their cheeks, frowning in concern.
"They hit you?"
Whumpee didn't answer, they just started crying again. "Hey…hey…shh…don't cry, I'm here with you now." Whumper held them tightly, trying to comfort them as much as they could.
"C-caretaker doesn't remember me anymore…t-they gave me money, b-but I don't want that…!"
"Shh…I know, I know." Whumper looked at Whumpee sympathetically. "Let's take care of your empty stomach first, okay?"
Whumpee nodded, "Okay…"

Whumptober Day 5
Sunburn - Healing Salve - Heatstroke - "Of my Pain Will Stretch that Far" (Lottery Winners, Burning House)
"Please master, can I have a second", Whumpee pleaded through gasps of breath.
They had been crawling behind Whumper for an hour now. Whumper liked taking these walks on the empty roads surrounding their off grid vacation home. This area allowed them to truly have Whumpee play pet. Whumpee was fully naked, only dressed in a collar and leash.
"Hmm, having a hard time keeping up with me pet?", Whumper turned, "we just have another mile before we're home. You can make it."
"Yes Master, but please may I have a second?", Whumpee pleaded, "I think I just found a piece of glass."
Whumper frowned as they saw blood oozing from Whumpee's hand.
"Hmm I suppose you did", Whumper sighed as they knelt to get a better look, "I don't have any first aid so I guess I'll allow you to walk like a person until we get your hand cleaned and bandaged."
"Thankyou master", Whumpee whispered.
Whumper stood, and helped Whumpee stand.
"Your knees look about tore up to", Whumper sighed, "I guess we won't take this path again."
Whumpee stumbled to the side a little, "I-I don't know if I-I'll make it master."
Whumper frowned as they saw how red Whumpee's skin was.
Whumper pulled out their water bottle and dumped the rest on Whumpee.
"Hmm", Whumpee whimpered.
"Okay let's go", Whumper lifted Whumpee onto his back and started to walk quickly.
"Master.... yo-your carrying me?", Whumpee moaned.
"Yep, I don't need you to have a heatstroke out here. I guess I didn't realize how bad the sun was", Whumper sighed, "I think you are dangerously close."
"Hmm", Whumpee moaned again.
"Whumpee, I know I don't tell you to do this often, but keep talking to me", Whumper said worringly. They were nowhere near a hospital if Whumpee did have a heatstroke, "I can't have you passing out on me."
"Wh-what sh...ould I-I talk abo-ut", Whumpee labored.
"Anything you want, just keep talking", Whumper groaned under Whumpee's almost dead weight.
"My favorite treats?", Whumpee perked up for a second.
"That's fine", Whumper nodded, "what are your favorites?"
"I like when you get those chocolate cookies with the cream in the center", Whumpee whispered.
"Uh-huh", Whumper sighed, trying to get Whumpee to keep going, "how about the granola bars from this morning?"
Whumpee paused for a moment to think, "I uh, didn't really like those "
"Oh I thought you did", Whumper huffed, "man you are heavier than you look."
"Mm, sorry Master... mm, really tired", Whumpee's head bobbed to the side.
"Whumpee, you really need to stay awake. Keep telling me about treats", Whumper quickened their pace.
Whumpee's head swayed as they lifted it.
"My, uhm... mm head hurts", Whumpee slurred, "and mm hand."
"We'll get bandaged up once we get home", Whumper could see the house in site, "just stay with me a little longer. I'll get a fan on you. Get you nice and cool."
Whumpee didn't answer.
"Whumpee?", Whumper questioned again. Concern in their voice.
"Hmm", Whumpee hummed as their head fell again.
"We're home", Whumper rounded the corner and hurried to get inside.
Whumpee was spread out on the cold tile floor, and a fan was not blowing on them.
Whumper made a few ice pack towels, and placed them in certain spots on Whumpee.
Whumpee continued to breath uncomfortably.
"I think I'm going to need to get you into the tub", Whumper frowned, "I can't believe I was this careless. I normally pay attention, but you were definitely having a hard time. I'm so sorry."
Whumpee woke up and looked around. They moved around a little and caused some water to splash up.
"Hum", Whumpee looked at the tub full of water with concern, "what's happening?"
"Woe easy there Whumpee", Whumper came in after hearing the movement, "don't move too much. You were just unconscious."
"Wh-what happened?", Whumpee looked up at them, "am-am I okay?"
"I think you are now. I'm still a little worried about you", Whumper reached down and pulled up a cup, "I've been trying to get you to drink some of this while you were unconscious. It's electrolyte water. Lets get the rest of this in you."
Whumper helped hold the cup while they drank.
"You have quite the sunburn my pet, I'm afraid you'll be uncomfortable for a few days", Whumper sighed at themself for not taking better care of their pet, "let's get you dried off and comfortable. I have some ointment to put on you to help take away the sting."
Whumpee nodded, "I feel a little better now."
"That's good", Whumper stood, "you can soak for a few more minutes while I look for that salve ointment."
Whumpee sighed in relief when Whumper had finished putting the medicine on them.
"Sounds like you feel better already", Whumper grinned as they reached for a pillow to put under Whumpee's head.
"Yes Master", Whumpee laid their head down, "thankyou."
"You're welcome, now go ahead and get some rest. I'll wake you for dinner", Whumper patted Whumpee's head a little before standing.
Whumpee let their eyes blink open and shut. They grew slower and slower.... heavier and heavier.
They could hear Whumper humming in the kitchen. The gentle notes soothed them even more.
"I'm so happy to have Master", Whumpee whispered to themself, "what would I do without them taking care of me?"

I Deserved It
Whump Oneshot - Writing masterlist here
content: time loop, pet whump, failed escape attempt, guns, major character death, whumper turned caretaker, suicide
Whumpmas in July Day 3: "___ deserved it."
i wrote this all in one sitting and when i looked up it was 4am. starting WIJ off with a bang!!
-
Day 1
Devran didn’t know it was day one of anything at the time, though he certainly learned fast.
The little shit had tried to escape. It had never done that before, and he certainly wasn’t a fan of it. He’d thought his training was getting him somewhere, Emereo seemed almost completely obedient. But somehow, it had all gotten away from him.
Not enough for the pet to actually succeed, of course.
His captive was weeping in a crumpled heap on the floor by the time Devran was done with it. Devran was careful to never go further than what he could fix on his own–it wasn’t like he could take the damn thing to a hospital without getting arrested. Still, the bruised, broken figure kneeling at his feet seemed thoroughly cowed, and the fresh, smoking brand on its shoulder blade ensured that it would never forget its place again.
He grabbed it by the collar, the pet’s eyes flashing with terror as it was brought up again.
“Master–” Emereo gasped, “Master, please, I’m sorry! No more, I won’t run again! I’ve learned my lesson!” It winced away from him as much as it could without pulling back.
Devran scoffed. “Clearly, you’ve learned nothing. Begging for the punishment you’ve duly earned to stop?”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” it cried. It opened its mouth, then closed it again, no doubt biting back more pleas for it to end.
“You deserved it.” He shook the helpless thing a bit, watching it choke on the collar for a moment before moving with it. “Say it!”
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran dropped it, then kicked it one last time for good measure. Emereo whimpered and curled in on itself, every muscle in its body tensed and waiting.
Exactly how he wanted it.
He dragged it back over to the wall, clipping its collar to the chain there. “No food today or tomorrow. You’re dismissed.”
Emereo slumped over. “Th-thank you, Master.”
Devran left it there, locking the basement up as he went upstairs. Two days nursing its injuries in the dark with no food should give it the time it needed to reflect on its actions.
He went on with his day, not paying any more mind to the crying mess in his basement aside from when he cleaned the branding iron.
Later, he would swear that somehow, when he went to bed that night, he could feel that something wasn’t right.
-
Day 2
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran blinked.
He was back in the basement, his fist coiled around his pet’s collar, just like yesterday. Emereo’s brand was even still smoldering, he noted.
He dropped the wretched thing, taking a moment to collect himself while Emereo shook on the ground. He must have been dreaming, right? The last thing he remembered was falling asleep.
“Sir?” Emereo squeaked.
“Stupid,” he muttered, turning away and back up the stairs. Though he didn’t bother closing the door, the Emereo of his dreams had learned its lesson just as well as the real one and stayed put.
Devran straight up to bed, and though it was still light out, managed to get himself to drift off into a nap.
-
Day 3
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran was not the slow sort.
He only gripped the pet’s collar tighter, drawing it up with a yank. “What’s going on?” he barked.
“I deserved it!” Emereo repeated, pupils dilated. Its hands raised slightly, then lowered as it snuffed out the instinct to loosen the pressure around its neck. “I’m so sorry, Master! Please!”
“Forget about the stupid escape!” Devran threw the pet to the floor, hard. Its skull cracked audibly against the concrete, though it did not lose consciousness. “You don’t remember, do you?”
Emereo’s breaths came quick as it wracked its mind, desperate to placate its master. “R-remember what, sir? I remember my lessons! I won’t forget again!”
“Great. Just great.” Devran stormed upstairs and locked the door behind him. If he was going to figure this out, it certainly wouldn’t be aided by a stupid pet who had no idea what was even happening.
Internet searches returned only science fiction. Obviously, this was out of the realm of the ordinary. He was on his own, but Devran was nothing if not adaptable.
And clearly, he had all the time in the world to figure it out.
After a day of fruitless research, he checked himself into a hotel for the night. Perhaps it was the bed.
-
Day 4
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
It was not the bed.
Devran sighed, dropped the pet, and headed back upstairs without another word. He started writing ideas in his journal, but scrapped that–it would all be erased anyway. He would simply have to remember everything.
He brewed a pot of coffee in pursuit of his next endeavor. Every time he slept, he reset. So he simply would not sleep. Obviously unsustainable, but maybe if he crossed some sort of threshold, time would go forward as it was meant to again. It wasn’t like he’d never pulled an all-nighter before. He would aim to pull two, at least.
On the bleary 40th hour of his endeavor, Devran was pulled from his countless shaky-handed cup of coffee by a soft knocking.
“Master?” came a small voice.
At least it was something to distract from the sleeplessness. Devran opened the door. “What?”
Emereo backed up, almost tripping over itself as it fled to the bottom of the stairs. “C-could I have some water, please? My bowl’s been empty… I’m sorry to bother you. It’s just…”
It was very, very clearly sorry. It was apparent that it would rather be doing anything else at the moment.
Devran rolled his eyes. “Stay.”
The pet obeyed as Devran filled a cup with water, brought it back, and tossed it down the stairs, spilling it all over the floor. It could lick it off the ground if it wanted it so badly. He was too tired to give a shit. “There’s your water.”
“Thank you, sir!” Emereo called as he slammed the door back.
Devran returned to his pacing until he was simply too exhausted, only daring to sit down for just a moment.
-
Day 5
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
“Damn it!” Devran shouted, throwing his pet to the floor. It shrieked, covering its face as it cowered away.
Back to the drawing board.
He stared curiously at the pet curled on the ground. He’d been focusing on himself and his behaviors to stop the loop, but why did he always wake up here? Was it simply random chance, or could Emereo be connected to this, somehow? Even if it couldn’t remember?
Devran lowered Emereo, then released its collar. “Have you ever seen Groundhog Day?”
“W-what?” it asked, completely tense as it looked up at him.
“The movie, the one about the man trapped in a time loop. Keep up.” Devran snapped his fingers.
Emereo immediately positioned itself into a kneeling position. “Yes, sir! I’ve seen Groundhog day. M-my siblings and I used to watch it on the actual holiday.” It covered its mouth suddenly, like it had said something it shouldn’t have.
“I’m stuck in a time loop. Like in Groundhog Day. Do you understand?” Devran asked.
It was immediately clear that the pet thought he was losing his mind. It looked up at him questioningly, trying and failing to hide its obvious disbelief. “...Yes, sir. And… should I be, um, doing something?”
“You should be glad your punishment’s interrupted. I keep resetting right then, why is that?” he muttered.
“I don’t know, sir. I’m sorry.” Emereo’s voice was quiet, trying hard not to trip on unsteady ground.
“Useless.” Devran left it down there and headed upstairs, then out the door.
His friends were even more useless than the internet had been.
-
Day 6
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran dropped it, heading upstairs without another word. It had been a while since he’d opened this drawer for anything other than cleaning, and, well, he’d always wanted to try this. Either it would break the loop and he’d be free, or it wouldn’t and there would be no consequences.
The pet’s eyes grew wide as it looked up the stairs when he returned, straight up the barrel.
“Sir?” it breathed, not daring to move a muscle.
“Good night, pet.”
With that, his basement was painted red. Devran didn’t bother cleaning it up.
-
Day 7
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
It was strange, seeing his pet so full of life after blasting its brains all over the walls. Devran released it to the floor, taking a step back.
“You used to watch Groundhog Day every Groundhog Day with your siblings,” he said simply.
Despite its aching body and cracked ribs, Emereo moved swiftly to prostrate itself, bending until it was the utter picture of submission.
“Please don’t hurt them,” it choked out, “I’ll do anything, Master, anything, I promise I’ll never try to run again, just please. I’ll be such a good pet for you, I swear! You’ll never need to discipline me again! Please don’t, oh God, please–”
“I’m not going to kidnap your fucking family. Get a grip.” Devran snapped, and Emereo in turn snapped up to an upright kneeling position. It cried out as the sudden movement jostled its injuries, but did not complain.
In all their time together, he had never seen it quite this distressed. Devran pocketed the idea to ensure future obedience, once he’d dealt with this damn loop.
“You told me this. I’m trapped in a time loop,” he explained. “Do you believe me now?”
“Yes, sir!” The pet was unreadable this time, its mind clearly elsewhere.
“Listen.” Devran snapped again, and Emereo flinched. “Every day for the past week, I’ve woken up to you crying here, and nothing I’ve tried has worked. I’m half-convinced you’re somehow involved with this.”
“I didn’t!” Emereo insisted, fresh tears brimming. “I s-swear, sir, I didn’t, I’m sorry I tried to escape, but I didn’t–”
“Not like that. In the more… catalytic sense,” he corrected.
Emereo pursed its lips.
“What?” Devran demanded. “Spit it out. I only have all day.”
“H-have…” It cut itself off. “I’m afraid I’ll be… punished again, sir. I don’t want to disrespect you.”
“You’re disrespecting me more by disobeying my direct order to spit it out.”
“Have you ever seen Groundhog Day, sir?” Emereo asked. It put its arm up to guard its face, as if that would do anything.
Ah. Of course that would be the first thing the stupid pet thought of. He hadn’t seen the movie itself, but it had wormed its way into popular culture enough for him to get the gist: a man is trapped in a time loop until he betters himself as a person.
“Very fucking funny. That’s a movie, this is real life.” Devran turned to leave it once more, then stopped.
Why not? He might as well try everything.
“You know what?” He turned back toward the pet.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Emereo wailed. “Please, I didn’t want to say it, you ordered me to!”
“Go.” Devran stepped aside, gesturing up the stairs.
Emereo shook its head, frantic. “I’ve learned, sir. I promise. I’ll never run again, never, never.”
“I said to fucking go.” Devran grabbed it by the collar and dragged it upstairs, throwing it out the door. “Don’t come back.”
He shut the door in its bewildered face.
It wasn’t even an hour later that police showed up to arrest him.
Devran didn’t particularly mind. If it stuck, he would still be imprisoned for less time here than he would be if it didn’t.
-
Day 8
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran abandoned the pet once more to work on his own. While Emereo’s idea was juvenile at best, there was a kernel of worth in it: perhaps there was some use in looking to time loop narratives. If someone else had ever escaped his predicament, perhaps they’d write a book or script about it. It wasn’t like he was lacking time.
He threw some food and water down for the pet so he wouldn’t be disturbed, then set to work.
After Groundhog Day, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Happy Death Day, he fell asleep halfway through 1408.
-
Day 9
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
It had only been just over a week, but the spot Devran had left off in his old life was slowly starting to lose its meaning. He couldn’t find any energy to be angry about the escape attempt anymore.
“Up,” Devran ordered, releasing its collar.
Emereo struggled to its feet. “Yes, sir.”
Devran led it upstairs. “Go sit on the couch.”
“Yes, sir.” Emereo collapsed there, whimpering as it tried to find some semblance of comfort with its injuries.
“Your punishment is over. I’m going to be watching some movies and TV shows. If you’re good, you can stay and join me for lunch and dinner,” Devran offered. Perhaps the recent watch of Groundhog Day had made him soft after all.
The pet wiped its eyes. “Thank you, Master. I’ll be good.”
He put on 1408 again, fast-forwarding until he got to the point he’d fallen asleep at. The pet watched with rapt attention, not seeming to mind having missed the beginning of the movie. It did not speak at all during its run, only looking away to try and fail to spot the brand now taking residence behind its shoulder.
After a horrific torment at the hands of a cursed hotel room, the protagonist ended up setting it ablaze and escaping. Devran had already successfully fallen asleep outside his house, so that didn’t help at all.
“This wasn’t the original ending,” Emereo piped up suddenly. “They changed it because test screeners thought the director’s vision was too much of a downer. There’s actually four endings, ‘cause they made a bunch trying to find a good one for theaters, they included them all in the DVD release. He dies in the fire in the original one.”
Devran turned to look at it.
Emereo shied away. “I-I used to watch a lot of horror movies. Master.”
“Hm.” Well, that was equally as useless. If dying was the only way to escape the loop, he’d be dead after he escaped, and it would be pointless. “Lunch time, I think.”
It turned out that getting through all the movies and staying awake was easier with Emereo’s commentary. It slowly opened up as Devran encouraged it. It even gave recommendations.
-
Day 10
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
Devran lowered his hold slowly, then released it. That brand really did look nasty. All that bright-eyed babbling from yesterday was gone, now.
“Punishment’s over. Come on.” Devran helped it up, his hold firm even as Emereo flinched from his touch. “No more hurting for now.”
Emereo was able to get up the stairs much faster with help. Devran even applied some burn cream to its brand and gave it some ibuprofen for the pain.
“Thank you, Master,” it said after it downed the pills. “You’re… more merciful than I’d expected. Thank you. I really won’t try to run again. I’ve learned.”
It was a pathetically low bar, but it was also the most kindness Devran had ever allowed it at once. This was how he’d imagined it in the beginning, when he’d pictured training a human pet: a loyal, devoted companion, after the pesky conditioning was out of the way. He’d seen others in his circles accomplish the same. He’d thought for a while that they’d simply chosen better victims, and he was stuck with this one now that he couldn’t let it go without the police on his tail. Maybe it just required a gentler hand.
“Good. Maybe I’ve been too harsh with you, and that’s why you felt the need to run,” Devran conceded. “We can both learn from this. A better pet and a better owner.”
He chanced a soft pat on the head. Emereo only flinched a little.
“I’d like that, sir,” Emereo agreed. There was no doubt in Devran’s mind that it wanted to be free more, but its words were sincere nonetheless.
-
Devran fell into a routine.
At the start of each day, he took care of Emereo, learning more and more what words were most effective in calming him down–a he now, eventually–as he treated the injuries he’d inflicted. He made lunch for the two of them, then did something related to the loop. Research or an attempt to break it. As the days went by, he grew lazier and lazier with that, sometimes skipping it altogether as he grew more sure there was no way out after all.
He spent the rest of the day relaxing with his beloved pet, falling into a kind of peace. Emereo never reacted well when he tried to free him or take him outside, only causing more distress after the punishment he’d just taken. So he stayed.
-
Day 259
“I–I deserved it, sir,” Emereo sobbed.
“Good, there you go. It’s over now, I promise. You’re going to be alright.” Devran unclipped the collar from Emereo’s neck and tossed it aside. “You did such a good job. I’m not going to hurt you again. Let’s treat those injuries, okay? Let me help you up the stairs.”
Emereo’s face was the picture of relief. Devran had seen it hundreds of times. “Thank you, Master.”
It bothered Devran that this was the reset point. If only it could have been an hour earlier, before he’d caused so much pain. He’d even prayed for it, during his brief stint turning toward the church for an answer to his loop. But he always woke in the same spot.
After Emereo was all treated, Devran wrapped him in a blanket, brought him to the couch, and served him his favorite food: grilled cheese. It was about the most content someone recently-tortured could look, but through it all, there was always that undercurrent of pain and fear.
It was cruel, really. Devran had made his peace with the loop, but Emereo was the one that truly suffered for it, even if he couldn’t remember.
By this point, there was only one thing he hadn’t tried. He had mulled it over for quite a while, and he’d finally made up his mind. It was a bit drastic, but if it was the only way to free Emereo from his daily torment, he had to at least try, didn’t he?
He took his journal and wrote the names of everyone else he could think of, then tore out the page, folding it in half.
“Emereo? There’s something I need you to do,” he said as he joined him back downstairs.
“Yes, Master?” he asked, suddenly just a little more tense. Devran hated that. He wondered if Emereo would ever lose that fear, if he spent some years away from here. Away from him.
He handed Emereo the paper. “You don’t need to read this, it won’t make sense to you anyway. These are my… friends. If you ever get out of here, give this to the police, okay?”
Emereo looked lost, but that was alright. He didn’t need to understand just yet. “Um, yes, sir.”
“Good. You’re free to do as you please. Use the phone, take a walk outside, whatever you like. You won’t be punished.” Devran left him there and locked himself in his bedroom. He didn’t want Emereo to be the one to find him, even if it reset and he wouldn’t remember.
“Well, here goes nothing.” Devran clicked the safety off and shot himself in the head.

Forced Caretaker
A former whumper who doesn't want to help the whumpee, but under fear of death or punishment, they do.
They begrudgingly attempt to relieve the whumpee of every minor ache and pain.
They take a demanding approach originally but are forced to be softer when their attitude jars the whumpee and makes caring for them harder.
They notice when the whumpee is uncomfortable when no one else does and goes about calming them down/getting them out of the situation.
They allow the whumpee to cling to them after an episode.
Bonus points if the whumpee gets an attitude about it and rubs it in their face OR doesn't want their help and tries to avoid them.

Whump Art 9
Whumpee is safe, but terrified of his rescuers, or maybe he's still with Whumper, who is trying to be a better person, but Whumpee can't forget all the things Whumper did to him so easily.

Hero had noticed that Villain seemed a little distracted during their fight—not bantering as much as usual, fighting back halfheartedly. Still, they had expected Villain to dodge their attack in time. But when Hero sent out another blast of their ice powers, it hit Villain square in the chest, knocking them into the wall behind them.
Hero gasped as they watched Villain crumple to the ground, clutching at their chest. “Oh my god.”
Villain groaned, staring down at the ice spreading across the front of their suit. “Fuck. You got me good, huh?” they forced out. The laugh that followed was on the verge of hysterical.
“God, Villain, I’m so sorry,” Hero said, rushing to them. They knelt down in front of Villain, pushing their shaking hands out of the way so Hero could inspect the damage. Ice had pierced through their suit, seeping into Villain’s chest. Thanks to their own fire powers, it most likely wouldn’t be fatal—Villain's body heat had already begun counteracting the ice. But it looked like it hurt.
Villain’s eyes were distant when they looked up at Hero, and their lips were tinged blue. “My fault,” they said, teeth chattering. “Should’ve been paying attention.”
Hero shook their head. “No, no it’s not your fault. Shit, I'm sorry, I knew you were having an off day and I still…”
Villain wrapped their arms around themself as shivers wracked their body. “S-so cold. And tired.”
“You have to stay awake,” Hero instructed, though it came out as more of a plea. “Keep your eyes open, okay?”
The ice was beginning to melt away already, but the effects would probably last longer. “You’ve g-got your chance to t-turn me in now,” Villain said, forcing themself to keep their eyes on Hero.
Hero sighed, pushing Villain’s hair back. “Not gonna happen. I’m taking you home where you can have some hot soup and lots of blankets, and then rest. And maybe when you’re feeling better, you can tell me what had you so distracted today.”
“Why?” Villain asked incredulously.
“I did this. Now I'm going to fix it.” Hero didn’t tell them about the guilt and the looming fear that always followed them. The constant underlying threat of their powers being too strong. Or that they might lose control, like they had today. One of their worst fears had just come true and it was only by luck, or maybe a miracle, that Hero had hit the one person who couldn’t be killed by their ice powers.
“If you w-wanted me to c-come home with you, you c-could've just asked,” Villain joked.
Hero couldn’t help but smile—at least Villain was with it enough to still tease them. “Don’t fool yourself. Once you’re all better, we go back to being enemies.”
“Yeah. Obviously.” Hero pretended not to notice the way Villain’s smile faltered. “You’d have t-to take me to dinner f-first, anyways. I’m not that easy.”
“Well,” Hero said, “I can at least make you chicken noodle soup, so hopefully that counts for something. Now, come on, let’s see if you can stand…”

[The part one in mention] -- [oh no a part 3]
CW; Abandoned whumpee, taken in by whumper
Whumper didn't let go of whumpee's wrist as they pulled them away from the ruin left behind. Thankfully whumpee followed, not like they had much of a choice. Abandoned by their own team for a worthless cause.
Whumper actually felt bad for them.
"That was noble of you." Whumper pulled whumpee close by their side and gave them an assuring squeeze.
"What-?" Whumpee blinked, seemingly dazed.
"Sacrificing yourself. There's not many left that would do something like that... Well, none still alive." Whumper used their sleeve to clean off whumpee's face of dirt and blood.
"They made it out, right? My team? Did you see them? Are they safe?" Whumpee asked, leaning eagerly on their toes.
Whumper saw them alright, running for the hills while they used whumpee as cover.
"Yes I saw them abandon you if that's what you mean." Whumper spoke flatly. Whumpee opened their mouth to argue but a voice in the distance called for them.
"Ah! There they are. That's my team I mentioned. You'll join us, won't you?" Whumper asked, leaning in.
"This team... Who are you again? I never caught a name." Whumpee leaned back. The voices grew louder as whumpee could finally make it out.
They were calling whumper; the name of their enemy. The name whumpee knowingly sacrificed themselves to, thinking they would get killed on sight. They felt whumper's grip on their arm tighten and the look they gave each other was a mutual understanding that the jig was up.
"Let go of me." Whumpee retorted.
"I don't think I will. It's like I said whumpee;" Whumper smiled.
"There aren't many of you left."

There were no search parties, no worried people looking for the whumpee- and the whumper didn’t know what to think about it all. The whumper had been hesitant to hurt the whumpee in the first place- it was their job, but it wasn’t a job they enjoyed. Slowly but surely, the whumper began to care for the whumpee, giving them more food, giving them warm blankets- they didn’t want to hurt someone that had been so hurt already.
