OK, time for another boss battle report, Cazador Szarr edition. This one got pretty elaborate. XD

Opening state of play:

Enemy list is Cazador plus two ghasts (labeled "Fallen Gur Hunter," upsettingly), four werewolves, a skeleton named "Chatterteeth," and six bats. The bats have one hit point each but I'm making no assumptions at this point.

Cazador starts out with seven stacks of a buff called "Ritual Sources" - corresponding to the seven spawn currently being held in magical fields around the arena - which gives him 70 temp HP, 7m extra movement speed, and extra necrotic damage. He also gets an individual unique buff for three of the spawn (For "Yousen", he gets an extra 2-16 hitpoint regain every turn, for "Violet" he gets a +5 to AC, and for Astarion himself, he gets an extra bonus action.)

All of this also means we are shorthanded by one person because Astarion is currently being used as a power socket. (On the bright side, despite the cutscene, he still has all his armor and stuff on, so maybe we can get him back into the fight and let him get the killing blow.)

Cazador can apparently use Call Lightning for ten turns without using a spell slot, with which he immediately beats the shit out of Jaheira on his first turn.

He can turn into vampire mist and run around the arena which makes him immune to non-magical damage. "This status is removed by sunlight," says the description of the form. Well, this at least is good news, because guess what Jaheira has:

The spawns themselves all have a "sacrificial lamb" condition which states: "If Cazador draws power from all the spawns bound this way three times, he will ascend." So we're on something of a time limit.

By the way Cazador has 270 hit points, including the 70 temp HP he's getting from the spawns. O.O;

We do get a bit of a hint to kick things off.

"Those runes," Karlach says. "Cazzy's using them to suck the power right out of those poor fuckers."

"If we can reach the glowing sigils, maybe we can redirect that power from him to us," says Hector.

First of all, I love that Karlach calls him "Cazzy". Second, I can't imagine Hector is much more thrilled about taking that power for himself, even temporarily, than he is about Cazador getting it, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I think our top priority here is as follows:

a) Get everyone onto one of those sigils (ideally Astarion's? maybe we can get him back into the fight?) to start disrupting Cazador's power sources. b) Get Daylight cast on as much of the arena as possible. c) ????? we'll figure it out from there.

Let's go.

Combat report:

Getting Karlach onto one of the sigils on her first turn passed one of the "Ritual Sources" buffs from Cazador onto her, so that seems like a good start. The problem here, though, is that stepping back OFF the sigil immediately gives the buff back to Cazador. So the utility here seems a bit limited since most of our squad is kinda up close and personal.

Not entirely clear on whether I am supposed to be trying to kill the non-Astarion spawn, although that does seem like it would certainly remove the buff more permanently. They're basically resistant to everything so it doesn't seem like a GREAT use of our time, but options feel really limited.

The ghasts are surprisingly annoying as they all run straight at Hector and cast Stench to make him nauseous, meaning he can't take actions. He's so powerful tho that he kills one of the werewolves with bonus actions alone.

Karlach meanwhile gets surrounded by all five bats and bit a whole bunch and Jaheira gets downed by the second round of Call Lightning. This is off to a great start.

The one spore zombie that was still following Jaheira around from the fight earlier misses every single one of its attacks in this fight, bless its heart.

Hector manages to take out all the ghasts by turn three but is now the only good guy conscious on the field as Karlach has gotten bitten into unconsciousness. More bats have spawned at the start of the round. Cazador has managed to avoid starting his turn in the Daylight spell repeatedly so he has not yet taken any damage from it yet. All the bats have now come over to surround Hector instead. This is going terribly.

DISCOVERY: When Jaheira's spore zombie kills something (in this case, a bat) it turns into a new friendly spore zombie! That's nice! Everything else, however, is terrible.

At this point, Cazador ascends. All of the spawns, including Astarion, explode into a giant pile of wet meat. Astarion's personal quest is marked complete. I sigh, very heavily, and reload. Yeesh.

Attempt 2!

I feel like there's a trick here that I'm missing, but the second pass does start off much more optimistically; Hector and Karlach are able to take out all three ghouls immediately and Jaheira gets Daylight up again.

Once again Jaheira gets wrecked at the top of the second round when Cazador gets his next turn. She really is squishy as fuck and I am not sure why I suck so badly at playing her. :( I love you, Jaheira, I'm sorry I keep getting you killed.

Eventually I got frustrated and sent Hector over to just whale on Cazador, and he's such a battering ram that he did manage to get him all the way down to 100HP. However, it was on turn 3 and so Cazador promptly got up afterwards and turned everyone into marinara sauce.

Realistically, Hector and Karlach are powerful enough between them that I'm pretty sure we can cheese this fight but just going straight to Cazador on turn 1 and beating the shit out of him; however, I would kind of like to figure out how to do this fight the "correct" way. Reload.

Attempt 3!

New strategy - what if we ignore all the enemies and just run all three of us onto three of the sigils immediately? (Specifically, the three sigils for the spawn that are giving him extra buffs. Unfortunately, they're of course the ones furthest away from us but we have dash actions for a reason.)

With this in mind, backing up an extra save and doing some pre-work. Jaheira gets the Misty Step amulet back, ritually casts Longstrider on everyone which will give them extra movement speed until long rest, and precasts Conjure Elemental, Conjure Woodland Being to get more bodies on the field, and Heroes Feast too, why not (immunity to the Stench poison for one thing), then casts Protection from Energy on herself to help offset the fucking Call Lightning that's wrecking us right out of the gate.

While I'm doing this, @ryssabrin comes in clutch with some advice in the replies in my previous post, pointing out that we can use the Help action on Astarion to pull him out of the ritual and back into the fight. "cazador will focus fire on him but he won't do the ritual." This is HUGE because that three-turn limit was what was really fucking things up.

So that's our new priority. Jaheira and Karlach go to stand on two of the sigils, and Hector books it towards Astarion to free him. Ryssabrin also pointed out the utility of Sanctuary in this case - presumably to put on Astarion if Cazzy is gonna focus fire him - so I have Hector load that up too, and cast Protection from Evil and Good on himself.

Heroes Feast is fun. It also gives us a big hamper of camp supplies in addition to all the buffs. Please fill in your own joke:

OK let's give this another try. I'm not scared, what are you talking about.

In addition to all the buffs, we also luck out here somewhat in that on this run, all three of the team get top initiative (second only to Cazador himself). Jaheira's concentration on Protection from Energy gets broken INSTANTLY but she does take less damage than she did previously.

Jaheira misty steps onto Yousen's sigil, stealing Cazador's per-turn heal and one of his ritual stacks (and casts Daylight). Karlach goes to Violet's sigil and steals Cazador's extra AC and another ritual stack (and rages for extra DR). Hector as planned beelines straight for Astarion, Help-actions him into the fight, casts Sanctuary on him, and barrels towards one of the other sigils. Cazador is now down to four buff stacks and no special buffs, and cannot ascend. QUICKSAVE.

"YOU ARE GOING TO SUFFER FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID TO ME!" Astarion bellows, and then I have him stand absolutely still and not do anything, because he can't be targeted by attacks in Sanctuary but only while he doesn't attack anything. I like to think he is debuffing Cazador with the pure power of his ANGRY GLARE, though.

Jaheira once again gets fucking trounced immediately but at least her unconscious body is on top of the sigil so it's still debuffing Cazador.

Round 2 - Cazador's out of mist form and I could keep Hector on the sigil removing the extra stack from him - but realistically the dangerous ones were the two that Jaheira and Karlach are on. Hector is best served barreling straight at Cazador and battering ram smacking the shit out of him. So that is what he does. For a total of [does quick math] 183 DAMAGE! :D Cazador lost Call Lightning concentration too. Big moves from Team Juggernaut and this is all looking much more manageable. (For insult to injury he still had enough movement left to go and stand on the nearby sigil again too. XD )

Karlach hurled two separate health potions at Jaheira, using up both of her actions, and neither of them did anything useful for some reason. Very annoying. So now I just sit here while the 513451345 enemies on the field take their turns and hope for the best.

Time for some roleplay choices. Cazador is down to 65 HP and still prone, which means Astarion can get a sneak atack on him. So I make the executive decision to SCREW SANCTUARY because Astarion needs this killing blow.

Jaheira dies. Again. And, again, from a story perspective, we are pretending this didn't happen. XD

Round 3 - Cazador once again mists up, so I spend Hector and Karlach's turns taking out some of the adds. Astarion tries to take a stab at the mist form just to see if it works. It doesn't.

Round 4 - Hector flattens Cazador down to 13HP and positions himself to give Astarion sneak attack. Karlach stares menacingly at everyone...

And Astarion gets the killing blow.

And then we killed the 113451324 bats that had spawned during this whole process. Victory!

Christmas/Holiday Story #1: A Blue Christmas

It was a few days before Christmas. Everyone, the clan included, in Eyrie building had been getting ready for the holiday.

Out of everyone, Peggy had been the most instant on getting decorations up, getting gifts wrapped, and everything else.

While keeping an eye on his partner, Goliath noticed that Blue wasn't around. This was the fourth night in a row, which was... concerning, to say the least. He knew Blue. Unless something was wrong, they never stayed away from the castle and the clan this long.

He stopped ColdFire and ColdStone as they passed by.

"Have either of you two seen Blue recently?" He asked. ColdFire shook her head.

"No, we haven't." She replied.

"We were just about to go check on them." ColdStone added. Goliath nodded.

"Good. I am a bit worried about them."

"So are we." ColdStone agreed, as the two left for Blue's place.

When they got there, Blue was out on the balcony, quietly staring at a picture in their hands.

"Blue." ColdFire softly stated, as she and ColdStone landed. Blue looked up at their partners.

"What are you two doing here?"

"We were worried about you." ColdStone replied. "You haven't been to the castle in a few days." This prompted a sigh from Blue. "Is everything alright?" He asked, as the two gargoyles settled on either side of their partner. Blue looked down at the photograph, one of three smiling young kids, a boy and a girl, both the same age and likely twins, and a slightly older girl, and sighed.

"No..." They admitted. ColdFire gently set a hand on their shoulder.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I'm just... not looking forwards to Christmas." Blue admitted. "Then again I haven't for a while." They looked down at the picture again.

"Who are the children in that picture?" ColdStone asked.

"My siblings and I." Blue replied, holding the picture up more. "I'm worried about them." They stated. "We were really close as kids, and... we remained close, up until dad kicked me out." They rubbed at a corner of their eye. "I'd love to see them again, but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon."

ColdStone and ColdFire looked at each other, then back at Blue.

"Can you contact them?" ColdFire asked. Blue shook their head.

"Nope. Dad made sure they blocked me." They frowned. Suddenly their phone rang, causing them to slightly frown in confusion and pull it out of their pocket. "Huh, I don't recognize this number." They muttered, stepping away to answer the phone. "Hello, Blue Dunn speaking."

There was a pause of silence, before Blue's face split into a bright grin.

"T-Theo! Oh my gosh, is this really you?" They asked, then nodded. "How did you get my number? ... You and Thea moved away from dad? ... That's fantastic! ... What? Really?!" Blue grinned more. "Yeah, that'd be great! ... Oh, yeah, totally, you two could stay here. ... Yeah. ... That sounds great, I'll see you then." Blue bid their caller goodbye and hung up, putting the phone back in their pocket.

"And who was that?" ColdStone asked.

"My brother, Theo. He and my sister are going to be here for Christmas! They'll get here tomorrow." Blue happily stated. Their partners looked at each other.

"And... are you going to be able to introduce us to them?" ColdFire asked. Blue nodded.

"Yeah, don't worry. Thea has a major in mythology, and Theo's always been interested in the non-human, so you'd have to worry more about a ton of questions than anything." They chuckled, then looked down at the picture in their hand. "I'm just glad I get to see them again."

"And we're happy for you." ColdStone agreed. Blue smiled at their partners.

"I can't wait for you two to meet them, you'll get along so great!"

"And we can't wait to meet them too." ColdStone agreed.

hii im a hp fan but dont rlly know much ab marauders, any basic things i should know? how did u get into the fandom and learn all ab it?

hii cool anonymous, funny way to dive through a fandom but it all started with an edit from pinterest. I saw an edit where the Marauders fancast were introduced, and i thought there was actually a movie about them ( dreams will stay as dreams) So i searched it and it turned out to be a fancast. Then i found about a fanfic named all the young dudes in ao3. It was one best things to fill in the blank of a movie. Then came crimson rivers and such more. Then i opened a tumblr account. All the fandom just pumped up my interest at its greatest. The writing prompts and scenarios and fancasts were so passionate and addictive, in a good way. That s the summary basicly :) To get started i would recommend all the young dudes and crimson rivers, getting to know the generation and ships.

What Color Character Are You?

Dark Blue Character:

Dark Blue characters are kindhearted and responsible, driven to care for others around them. They are good at strategizing in the heat of the moment, but are also quite impulsive and rush into things without a plan when they are fired up. While calm people and patient teachers, they are quite hotheaded and not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Their sense of morality guides them, both into battle, and into healing. They get along with a wide range of people, but do have a temper that causes them to get into short-lived disagreements. They don’t like to be seen as inferior, as much of their strength comes from the softness inside of them. They like being needed and helpful, and want people to agree that they know what’s best for them, although others can get annoyed at what they perceive as nagging. They take turns being the voice of reason and the reason for the voice. They can hold their own, and believe in respecting everyone as long as everyone is respectful in turn. They often had to grow up fast and mature early, which they both take pride in and resent. They are likely to join a just cause on a whim, and do what it takes to develop the skillset they need to best help the cause, although they prefer to be at the center of the action. If they feel no one is doing anything and it needs to be done, they’ll step in. They are often close to prodigies, having some sort of incredible skill that they can expertly hone. They are inspirational and have a lot of emotional maturity. They can both maneuver people through their hardships and inspire them to rise up. They can often ignore their own feelings and needs in the process of being a sort of martyr for others, however, and can grow resentful when no one pays attention to them like they do for others. Dark blue characters need people in their lives who will encourage and uplift them in whatever cause they choose to support, as well as give them space to talk out their feelings. They also need others who will recognize when they are taking too much responsibility on, and take some time to give them care and support and affirm their willingness to care.

Thoughts on a/b/o (under a cut, bc length. These are still in workshop mode, and not all terms/conditions are solid in my head):

1) Basics and Heats/Ruts

All Alphas, Betas, and Omegas develop their genders during puberty: ⁃ Children don’t have full genitals until they hit puberty and their bodies start shifting. (Puberty hits a little earlier than with humans, with the start of development of genitals/etc as first hint of physical sexual characteristics, then secondary gender around mid teens)

These characteristics do not define whether or not a person is “aggressive” or “submissive” ⁃ Alphas are not stronger or more aggressive ⁃ Omegas are not weaker or more submissive ⁃ Betas are not better or worse than the other genders ⁃ Nulls (name pending) are not inferior, or eternal children. ⁃ Essentially most of the aggressive/submissive bs is societal pressures/etc

Scenting/Pheromones ⁃ Everyone has a unique scent, though families tend to have similar undertones. ⁃ There are scent glands like typical humans, in armpit, groin, etc; there are some extra glands that produce a stronger, more mark-able scent, like cats have on their heads and feet (so cheeks(?), under chin, around wrists; these "extra" gland areas vary from person to person) ⁃ Scenting is usually done by close family and friends. More out of a sense of belonging than territorial (though people can be assholes about it). ⁃ No soul bonding bites/etc. Not a thing.

Heats and Ruts are just how fertile a gender is during a cycle, and a way to ensure impregnation (had a thought on there being more/less Alphas/Omegas occurring dependent on population sizes?) ⁃ A Rut will not cause all Alphas to become more aggressive, and a Heat will not make all Omegas to be more submissive. ⁃ These cycles are not the same as menstruation cycles, and have longer timeframes between each ⁃ Average is 2 to 3 months between, ymmv ⁃ Late bloomers tend to have a shorter turnaround time; as they are experiencing a sudden influx of hormones, can have a stronger reaction to their Heat or Rut. (This may be where the myth of sex addled Omegas or violent Alphas originated from. Eventually a late bloomer’s hormones will stabilize, though they tend to suffer from short cycles.) ⁃ This being said, a Heat or Rut can make the one suffering from the condition to be extremely horny and have less inhibitions, sometimes like a drugged or drunk individual. (The level of this is dependent on the individual, and their condition essentially heightens their regular state). ⁃ If an Alpha or Omega is not in a current relationship, it is optional to seek out a partner. Not having a partner to help with various things makes it all suck a little more, but it isn’t particularly dangerous (Typically, but there are exceptions (medical conditions, drug induced states, etc); more below) ⁃ Usually temporary partners are requested in advance, usually from friend groups, though in some societies there are “escort” services that can also provide a similar function. ⁃ Consent and what either party is willing to do during their Heat/Rut is usually agreed on when aid is requested.

It is possible to change ones characteristic, but is considered an old wives tale (heavily based on two Zelda fics by an Anon, Chainbreaker and Trespasser's Moon.) ⁃ The methods are rather brutal ⁃ So an Omega can be made from an Alpha, but the Alpha must have their Rut extended (by denying knots and ejaculation), and be filled constantly during the Rut with Alpha semen. The vagina will open if sealed and produce slick, and a Heat will immediately trigger (will still retain penis.) ⁃ An Alpha can be made from an Omega, a bit harder to do but possible (Omega women need to have a chemically induced sex change to trigger a penis/balls to develop and semen production to start, so less plausible with non-modern settings). It is accomplished by extending their Heat, but instead of being filled, they are constantly forced to ejaculate into an Omega (can be done with Alphas/Betas, but Omegas are easiest). Eventually the the vagina will “seal” (becomes like Alpha woman), and a Rut will immediately trigger. ⁃ Betas are capable of turning either way, but it's thought that Alphas or Omegas can't become Betas (it’s actually more of a timing issue. The change needs to be stopped at a certain point, but it’s hard to gauge and has a very narrow window.)

Ferals (don't like this term, iz placeholder, need to find a different one) ⁃ A deep drop into a Rut/Heat can trigger an Alpha or Omega to go "Feral." (It's possible that a late bloomer is more susceptible to this) ⁃ This is extremely rare and is considered to be pure myth ⁃ When it actually occurs, it is dangerous to the one in question, as it typically means their body is going haywire, and their cycle is not stopping normally. If it is not dealt with, the one in question can be permanently damaged or die. ⁃ Ranges from issues with touch sensitivity, anxiety, loss of cognitive abilities, loss of speech, heart palpitations, seizures, fever, difficulty breathing, etc.

2) Alphas

Will develop a penis, balls, (knots?? Still on the fence with this) ⁃ Both men and women have male genitalia. Penises are larger than average (ymmv). ⁃ Men do not have a vagina, but the women do. (Men still have all the "parts," they are just dormant). ⁃ Alpha women have menstruation cycles, though are not regular and very light. They are capable of becoming pregnant, but it is very, very rare. ⁃ Alpha women are most likely going to be impregnated by Alpha men, followed by Beta men, then very, very rarely by Omega men. (It’s thought that Omega men are not capable of impregnating an Alpha woman, but it does happen).

3) Betas

Neutral, but are able to smell pheromones/scents ⁃ Either develop a dick or a vagina, but only one (both still have all the parts, just dormant). Typically average in penis size (ymmv). ⁃ Beta men are able to impregnate Alpha women, Beta women, and both Omega sexes. ⁃ Beta women are able to be impregnated by an Alpha man, Beta man, and Omega man. (More likely that an Omega man can impregnate a Beta Woman).

4) Omegas

Both will develop vaginas. ⁃ Men will have a penis, though it will appear that the women do not (not a clit like humans, though appears like a large one; essentially is penis that has not extended out, urethra is in this.) ⁃ Omega men will not have fully external balls (sort of a very shallow “drop”). ⁃ Their semen is viable, but it is not as much as Alphas or Betas, so it doesn’t take as often ⁃ Omegas can be impregnated by Alphas, Beta men, and Omegas ⁃ It is rare that Omega men can impregnate an Omega Man or Woman, but has happened. ⁃ Pregnancy in Omega Men is considered precious, as the chances are so low for viability than in an Omega Woman. An Omega/Omega gay pairing that results in a pregnancy is even more so.

5) Nulls (debating on this one, and term is not set in stone)

Mostly developed for Sea of Stars and Solstice Warriors, but can be applied to any verse, I suppose ⁃ This is secondary characteristic is mostly not known to the populous; they think that Nulls are Betas at the least. (Solstice Warriors are the only ones who really use this term, and typically do not use it around anyone who isn’t Solstice Born). ⁃ They are very, very rare (my math is horrible so I'm not even going to attempt at labeling this with a percentage). ⁃ Part of their characteristic is because something blocks their development? (For Solstice Warriors, maybe their magic? Too much power, so something had to give??) ⁃ Are unable to conceive because they never develop fully (all the parts are there, just dormant). ⁃ Will develop most everything else “normally” ⁃ Usual normal, human puberty stuff! They will incline to male or female, though those characteristics don’t completely develop ⁃ Very shallow vagina (with no menstruation) or unopened vagina ⁃ Underdeveloped penis (no balls dropping) ⁃ Dependent on how they perceive themselves, Nulls can push their perceived gender with aid from medicines (and magic). ⁃ This can push their bodies into more of a Beta characteristic, with further development of sexual organs, but still will be very low fertility. ⁃ Some Nulls prefer the androgynous look! Others hate it! YMMV! ⁃ Sex usually ends up being via oral or anal, as the vagina is not fully developed/open to be penetrated, and rare for erections to happen for penetration.
