This is the 'Escargot' 🐌begonia. It's not a new hybrid but when it first became available, it was THE hot plant 🔥. You can see why. Its snail shell-like 🐌 spiral leaves make it unique. Still on the word of the week, hirsute or hairy, this begonia is just that. Its red hairs make it shine in the light. Rex begonias aren't always the easiest, at least for me, but keep them on the drier side, up the humidity, and keep any dead leaves or debris cleaned up. It does flower, as you can see if you swipe over, but they are really grown for their gorgeous foliage. 🌿 I'm not sure yet if I'll put this on my east facing front porch for the summer or in my east facing inside window. They like a bright light but never full 🌞. This leaf 🌱of the rock fig (Ficus petiolaris) is what hooked me on this plant. I also had seen it as a gorgeous bonsai, which was my original plan for this plant. It has a cauduciform base and these heart- shaped, 💚 pink- veined 💗 leaves. It may start life as an epiphyte and as the seed germinates, it sends roots out over whatever it has landed on.The roots of this plant may cover a rock as it searches for ground to grow in. I would love to see a full grown one in the wild. Do you have any ficus plants? Fiddle leaf fig? Don't you love fabulous foliage? 🌿 This jewel orchid or Ludisia discolor is a terrestrial orchid and it truly has the most gorgeous foliage that pictures can't show ( at least my pictures). The stripes on the leaf are iridescent and sparkle in the sun. ☀️ I started these cuttings in water as little Henry the kitty 🐈 broke them off. Swipe to the next picture to see the weird roots. Aren't plants so cool?! I planted them up in my gorgeous HANDMADE terra cotta pot made right here in Michigan by @kokedamaqueenmoss' family. I love them! Hopefully this will bloom next winter. This Harmony's 'Fire Woman' begonia is glowing under the lights on my counter tonight. I'm surprised this is doing so well, (which to me means two leaves) as rex begonias usually die immediately for me. Do you like African violets? Sorry if you don't because I'm still on my African violet kick over here. This 'Apache Redcoats' is sending up flowers. I probably should have cut them off after repotting so it could send energy into growing roots and settling in to it's new home, but I didn't. Let's hope I don't regret it. Anyway, the flower is unfurling, the second frame is the whole plant and look at all those flower buds! The third picture is it's amazing foliage- who needs flowers at all?
