Good Morning, CLT Scene!! Before we can talk about today, we need to wrap up last night in a neat little music box, comprised of The Sad Joys, visiting 7277 all the way from Vermont, and our hometown heroes, Heckdang 🎶 ~~~~~~~~~~ Formally named Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass, the Sad Joys bring a very cozy presence to the stage with their mix of upbeat folk pop & rock. We loved how they set the tone somewhat inbetween sets, the bassist landing jokes while the face of the band Mike talked about experiences on the road. The note they left on, "Love each other", definitely embodied them, even during when we all spoke after their set. Thank you for stopping in, guys, and good luck on the road!! ~~~~~~~~~~ Closing out the night, Heckdang brought the hard hits back into the room with their constantly powerful lyrics & rock stylings. Last night was confirmed to be the pause button on performing in Charlotte before going back out on tour again this September. Magda, our posh personic punk fronter, promised that CLT would be able to check them again in late fall, so from us at RF20XX & your fans, go get it out there & show 'em why our scene rocks the hardest. It's been pretty lit so far tonight down inside the bowels of The Ritter House. Our first two bands up were Schlep & 2yrdegree, bringing in a chiller feel before blowing us away, an absolute perfect combo 👌. Our main events from The Ritter House were a mix of far & near, but both bringing in the punk vibe; The Smarthearts (1st Vid, PA) & Heckdang (2nd Vid, CLT). Hailing from Philadelphia, The Smarthearts crack in with a power-punk sound, while delivering a few good hooks with the ballads. While the band themselves are new, each member comes from a different outfit, including Sheer Mag, Graveturner, & The Guests, marking each piece a veteran in their own right. Out on their 2nd tour this year, SH is showing out with their 2018 debut album "On The Line". If you're in the Asheville area, check them out at Static-Age Records tonight at 9! Song: Only A Name Album: On The Line Last, but certainly not least, we welcome back CLT mainstays Heckdang, fresh off of their East Coast tour. "Never Left Home", the band's most recent EP, bares a certain heaviness with each track, expressed with great emotion through vocalist/bass Madga Criswell & amped up on a different main instrumental, like drum-heavy "Mushrooms" or the soft airiness of the guitar in "Presbyterian". Heckdang will next be at The Milestone on July 25, so come on out & see their crafted works for yourselves! Last Night's sets were off the chain & totally off the reservation of what we're used to seeing; In Short, we were rocked 🤘. The first two sets brought out the beasts in two newer bands for 2019; Mutant Strain (1st Vid, CLT) and FUTURE NOW (2nd Vid, Raleigh). Both bands cultivated & created an immense amount of energy off the bat, throwing us all into a frenzy. Not only inciting the mosh pit itself, but both vocalists held the floor entering & participating in it while going off, making for a wild performance. For FUTURE NOW, Vocalist Mike told us that this was only their 4th show as band, showing how young they are in this setup, but with the push to perform way out of their home turf like our city, we're expecting them to go a long way this year. Mutant Strain will next be at Snug Harbor's Residency Series on July 31st, and as for FUTURE NOW, we're keep you all posted on when tomorrow next comes today 🎶.
