Late Night Special Navigates Thru Turbulent Times with "Halfway To Somewhere": Album Review
Late Night Special Navigates Thru Turbulent Times with “Halfway To Somewhere”: Album Review
With a little Rock, a little Funk, and a whole lot of Soul, Late Night Special is a band that captivates through their loose definition of what style they belong to, vying instead to play to what feels good musically. Leading the pack of five well-rounded musicians, with the occasional opening for horn & piano sections, Fred Lee strikes the lead vocals in an easy going way, bouncing off while…

Editor’s Note: To Know Your Community Is To Start An Understanding With It Charlotte is, and always has been, an extremely varied city. For as long as I've lived here, there has always been more going on behind the scenes of our communities, but what's stood out to me in the time I've really started to cover the local music & game scenes is just how little each know about the other.

Charlotte Area & East Coast Nerdcore Pays Tribute to a JRPG Giant: Omega Sparx/SWATS's "Buster Sword Cypher" - Single Review
Charlotte Area & East Coast Nerdcore Pays Tribute to a JRPG Giant: Omega Sparx/SWATS’s “Buster Sword Cypher” – Single Review
It’s hard to believe that at this moment, 22 years have passed since the release of the one game that brought Squaresoft, now Square Enix, to the front of the conversation in the new era of 3D graphics on what was then a revolution in presentation, gameplay, and storytelling over in North America; the game was Final Fantasy 7, the date was September 7th, 1997. No matter where many gamers stand on…

"Maximal" Effort Is Given by Empty Atlas in Their 2020 Entry: Single Review
“Maximal” Effort Is Given by Empty Atlas in Their 2020 Entry: Single Review
As the Live Music world has ground to a temporary halt, in most, if not all cases, artists are making the most of it. With tours cancelled, the outside energy has been cut off, in a way. The roar of the crowd, the constant waves of influence, these are things that even the smallest grouping of people can produce, and that love to the sound is hard to replace. However, as long as evolution and…

Wilma Wages War Against The Darkness with "Rot": Single Review
Wilma Wages War Against The Darkness with “Rot”: Single Review
If one were to chronical the time period we’re living in now, especially within the Charlotte region, it’s both a time of anxiety, patience, and meditation. Wherever you look online with many of our area’s artists, day and night you’ll find that struggle being channeled through live stream concerts, pop-up sessions, and in general a subtle tempering, laid bare by the need to better understand how…

Sticking In There: CLT Music In Schedule for the Weekend of 3/13 to 3/15
Hey, CLT Scene & Beyond! It’s come to our attention over today that many of the events that we regularly chronicle have been hit with a string of cancellations, due to the public health concerns that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) poses to many of our music fans out there. Especially in Charlotte and in the greater Mecklenburg County, it is extremely important now that we safeguard ourselves against…

BadCameo Takes Us For An Interstellar Ride with "Neon Souls": EP Review
BadCameo Takes Us For An Interstellar Ride with "Neon Souls": EP Review
Funk, as a genre, treads a lot of ground when it comes to experimentation. Much of what’s loved about it is the easy build up to something more erratic, culminating into a way of moving in mind and soul that doesn’t have to put a listener on their feet, but will open up the horizons and jet them into another galaxy. Bad Cameo, with their new EP Neon Souls, does that perfectly within the time it…

Pullover Dreams Of A Lovely Future with "Forever": Album Review
Pullover Dreams Of A Lovely Future with "Forever": Album Review
In charting through the timeline of their sound, Pullover’s evolution isn’t as blatant as one might like to see, but in that is a beauty. Mostly, Repossession Bluesfeels like an aimless search from the narrator’s perspective, where we the audience are in the front row seats of the misadventures that are sure to follow. The feelings, whimsical and wild, surge in both familiar and scattered ways,…

The Hump Day Flex: Maverick Stash - Week of 1/22
The Hump Day Flex: Maverick Stash – Week of 1/22
Happy Hump-Day, CLT Scene & Beyond!! It’s been a bit of a “Rest Week” that RF20XX is currently on so far as being out in the scene, but a decent amount of that energy has been plotted out way waaaay to do a little more of a revival for the WordPress main platform, aka where it all started, folks. On a weekly basis, we’re going back to more offerings, such as this, which I’ll hereby dub “The…

Courtney Lynn & Quinn At The Visulite Theatre: A Retrospect In Sound
Courtney Lynn & Quinn At The Visulite Theatre: A Retrospect In Sound
For the Charlotte Scene in 2019, a word that can be bolded and underline several times without count for the year would have to be “growth”, and that especially goes for the duo Courtney Lynn & Quinn. In the last year, not only did they make powerful moves throughout our city, touring and leaving their marks on many of our beloved venues, but all the while working at their sophomore project, the…

Wilma Breaks Out Of Their Heads & Into The Scene with "Alien": Single Review
Wilma Breaks Out Of Their Heads & Into The Scene with "Alien": Single Review
In the spirit of singer/rocker legends like Chris Cornell & Eddie Vedder, 2019 brought forth the grunge-felt outfit Wilma into the Charlotte Scene. The moment they stepped out into their first set of venues, along with take-off’s True Lilith & The Walbournes, you couldn’t pass a couple of weeks without seeing their band name under one of the Queen City’s venue line-ups, striking true with the…

CLT Scene, we're unfortunately at the end of the break from the X-mas holidays, which means many of us will be going back to the daily grind in the Daylight. On the flipside, many of our city's artists are slowly coming back to give the QC what we need & crave, so sit back, check out the line-ups, and listen in as our local artists seep their sounds into our minds & souls. Welcome back to the fray, come & get your Thursday Wrap-up 😎🤘🎶 ~~~~~~~~~~ Tonight's still light throughout much of the usual ventures, but Plaza's going to carry the city on its back, as minds, lyrics, & beats resonate from one location. We're powered today by the ingenuity of both Kil Ripkin & Jah Freedom, each contant lights & voices in the QC scene, as put on as well in the Freaquency 360 series. While we have no idea what exactly is in store, Kil Ripkin's Medulla Oblongata Rap (2018) & JF's Vol. 1: Samo Suite are essential add-ons to your week. We wouldn't do either justice trying to break the albums down here, but you can see what we're saying by jacking into our CLT Music Playlist, located on our Spotify Channel. Doors open at 9, show starts at 10pm. Come in with an open mind, there is much to receive 📀🎙🎶 ~~~~~~~~~~ Earlier in the night, The Evening Muse lays the groundwork for the scene's return with Towne coming to call. Word is they're working on a new album, and the crumbs in the form of singles dropped all over 2019 pave the path. Give them something to talk about when doors open at 7pm and the folk-pop duo takes the stage at 7:30 🎸🎶🎼 ~~~~~~~~~~ Holidays still abound, here's what's comin' down; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12/26 – Thursday The Evening Muse – Towne @ 7pm Snug Harbor – Le Bang @ 9pm (Weekly) Petra’s – Kil Ripkin X Jah Freedom: Premedicated – The Listening Party @ 9pm Hattie’s Tap & Tavern – Karaoke @ 10pm Skylark Social Club – Techno Syndicate 007 @ 10pm Smokey Joe’s – Shana Blake & Friends @ 9pm (Weekly) (at Charlotte, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6jGPdspup7/?igshid=2r6hntxo65ox

Merry Christmas, CLT Scene!!! We hope you've had a good holiday among family & friends as the QC take in a warm day without the white stuff to cover us (coming in January/Febuary, probably). With much of the city shut down, there is quiet in the scene, but lo & behold upon us, Bone-Snugs is hitting us with a special Karaoke session to make our spirits bright. Petra's is also open for the Wednesday sets, so venture over to see what their crew is up to, both venues *Free* of charge 🎶🎄. ~~~~~~~~~~ Our other two highlights in the city are from some of our legendary spots. Tommy's Pub invites all our lost souls by for a place to relax & take care, from 4pm this afternoon till later this evening. If you can't make it out at all, Smokey Joe's is playing host to their weekly event with John Daniel's & Jeremy Shaw, with tonight's "Petty Christmas" event being free to enter & playing tonight on their Facebook Live Feed. Tune into the venue & at home tonight at 10:30pm 😎🎸⛄ ~~~~~~~~~~ Have a wonderful rest of your Christmas Day, and we look forward to hitting you with tmw's line-up. For funsies, be sure to post in the comments what you all got for X-mas this year 🎁🎄⛄🎶💖; -------------------------------------------------------------------- 12/25 – Wednesday (Merry Christmas!) Merry Christmas, CLT Scene!! We've been off the reserve for the last few days due to collectively deciding we needed our own break from productions for the season. We'll be effectively back on the beat tmw night, but we wanted to wish you all a Wonderful Holiday Season, as we all go to spend it with family & friends 😎⛄🎶💖 ~~~~~~~~~~ From us to you today, check out a little bit of the footage from last Friday's Snug invasion, when the five powers combined into the Kelsey Ryan & The Handymen. Also, for your attention today & tmw, the boys at the @somethinggfy Podcast put together something fun for the holidays, and stole Jonny G for the ride. Come hang out for some laughs, warm tidings, and the confusion that happens when you have to remember your favorite Christmas lyrics 🎄. It's the 2nd Annual SGFY Christmas Special, available to you on all podcast streaming networks 😎🎙⛄ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy Holidays, from Your Local Scene Mavericks at Reporting From 20XX ⛄🎄💖 (at Charlotte, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6eEzFdpTPU/?igshid=ug9o67mno314

CLT Scene & Beyond, the night is upon us & the better part of the week done with. What better reasons could there be to go cap off the edge of Wednesday than with a bit of sound & scenery? We're back with you all with your daily dosage of musical happenings in the QC, so let's dive on in with tonight's listings & see what you can catch 😎🤘🎶 ~~~~~~~~~~ In case the time has caught up on you, we're officially a week from Christmas & 2 weeks from New Years, which pits many toward either planning out gifts or scheduling where they'll be on the days ahead. Many of our artists are in that boat, and the final 2019 announcements continue. Snug Harbor's Residency tonight sets the stage for 3 of these, including our headliner of the month, Brut Beat. Come on out & close out the year with them, Sangre Cabrona, and The Straitjackets. Even better, the SJ's have a good bit of new material to premiere before time runs out, following "Much To Say"'s drop on December 11th. Entry's also *Free*, so stop on by when doors open at 9pm, and show our local scene some love 🎄🤘🎸 ~~~~~~~~~~ Even 7 days from Santa's arrival, some are already in the spirit of warmth & giving. That might be why Nathan Angelo is stopping by The Evening Muse tonight to drop off his X-Mas themed EP for all of us that can't wait for the day. A bit of folk mixed in from past & present propels his sound into the open air, and this reflects as well in the newest release. Doors open at 7pm tonight, so come get jolly with him on a few fresh takes for the season 🎄🎸💖; ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12/18 – Wednesday The Evening Muse – Nathan Angelo Christmas EP Release @ 7pm The World Famous Milestone Club – Ol' Sport w/ Cheem, Origami Angel, Dogleg & Dollhands @ 8pm The Neighborhood Theatre – Kelby Costner w/ Brooke Lee @ 8pm Snug Harbor – BRUT BEAT (December Residency) w/ The Straitjackets & Sangre Cabrona @ 9pm Petra’s – Karaoke Night! @ 9pm ——————————- – ONDAS do Brasil @ 9pm Crown Station – Train Wreck Comedy Open Mic @ 8pm Tommy’s Pub – Karaoke w/ DJ Velvetine (Laura Grace) & Johnny Starr @ 8pm (Weekly) Smokey Joe’s – Josh Daniel & Jeremy Shaw @ 10pm (Weekly) (at Charlotte, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6O3XgDJSgG/?igshid=aca8lzkpv11p
