hey hello captain can you sew? or enjoy sewing at any capacity?
Yes, I can sew. It’s a basic fucking skill but apparently most of the rest of the crew are still completely incompetent at it. Usually I get impatient and frustrated and everything ends up slightly lopsided, but on the rare occasions I can focus properly, I suppose it can be quite relaxing, and things tend to turn out better then.
#jonny.txt#asks#rocksanddeadflowers#the only other crew member who can see half-decently is Brian#who sews and knits with mechanical precision#he’s rubbish at crochet but that seems to be what he’s most determined to learn#nice to get some respect for once

The Magician’s Sister Pt 11 (Hakuno, Vlad, Gilgamesh, Gudako)
Previously: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten
____
She could sense him the moment they made it to the rayshift.
Lingering in the shadows, wrapping and holding his cloak tightly around his body. Those eyes were perusing the area and watching her as she and Vlad entered the rayshift chamber and Vlad gave specific instructions to the woman that was in the command room.
Hakuno wasn’t sure what the man wanted, but she could hear the other voice talking quietly in her head.
“You should beat him up.”
Ah, yes. Let’s beat him up so that we can ruin the chance to get that fabric that I apparently need so badly.
“…You’re the one who wanted to make something for them.”
Why do I know how to sew?
“Sewing is an important life skill, as is being able to blend in, adapt to situations, make businesses that will further fund our magical escapades, learn the escape routes of the entire building, learn how to finagle the entire electrical system-“
Woman! Hakuno groaned internally. I don’t need those things! I have Gilgamesh. He’s my… servant?
“Technically, he’s Gudako’s servant, but I think the Archer would become yours in an instant if you kissed him. Gudako shows a wariness. I bet befriending her would benefit us greatly. We can do that through that woman we saw in the dining court. The one with the violet hair-“
Shush!
Hakuno rubbed at her head.
This woman was going to annoy the hell out of her. She seemed just as questionable as the man that was following them. There was no doubt it was Merlin. Just like there was no doubt that he knew the woman that was in her head. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
Problem was: she had the woman in her head and the woman had given her all her energy and her soul so that she could live. That meant there was no giving her up. The woman chattered on enough that she could know that.
“Take a moment from Vlad, punch the idiot, and then we’ll get that fabric.”
Hakuno wrapped her arms around one of Vlad’s closing her eyes at the rayshift began.
One second- a steel walled room with a large fan and a great spinning orb in the center.
The next second- the middle of an intersection crosswalk with the lights warning that they had only a few seconds to finish crossing.
“Come along,” Vlad bid, holding her hands with his free hand and moving them through the streets.
“Where is this?”
“New York City. I come here often for supplies. While it is not the nicest of places that I have been, there is a phenomenal market that I frequent here that is full of fabrics. The little glass windowed shops and their wares are a marvel to see.”
It would have been better had there been light out. The whole world was bathed in a dark background, the lights flickering everywhere they looked. She could see cars hurrying passed. She could see pedestrians moving like herds, flocking from one direction to another. Their many hats and scarves and coats were coloring a lifeless looking steel jungle around them.
“The city never sleeps,” Vlad told her with a grin. “If you don’t mind, my dear, please keep your hands on my arm while we traverse this terrain. You’re a gifted mage, I sense, but this is a city that can be dangerous if one is to get lost and run into the wrong sort. And, while this is a problem that is not uncommon in any place, this city is big enough for it to take much longer to find you.”
“You make it sound like you care about me,” Hakuno teased.
The man smiled, adjusting the sweater she’d knitted him. “Yes, well… I happen to enjoy the occasional companionship. My master is a kind woman, but she’s brash and outspoken. From time to time, I like a reserved and passionate presence to indulges in the ancient joys like creating practical means for survival and indulgence.”
“You like a sewing buddy.”
“Precisely.”
He looked so proud in saying that, his smile as proud and pleased as any of the two Gilgamesh that she knew.
“This way,” he bid.
They walked like a couple, with him pointing out the various trees and décor. He explained why there were so many more lights than necessary, the fake greenery hanging from so many objects.
“It’s a holiday season, you see.”
Carols were sung on one of the corners, leaving them to pause and enjoy the sound before they moved onwards.
The shops, when they reached them, were something like out of an old storybook. The glass windows jutted out, showing them mannequins and old-fashioned bolts of fabrics. Hakuno could feel the spirit inside of her shivering, the tingling of mana saying that she wanted to indulge a bit.
She let her have the motor control, sensing the exuberant giggle- or maybe she did that aloud.
Vlad was laughing when he released her upon the shops. They didn’t stop with one bolt. Oh no. There were far, far more kinds of fabrics to look through. Vlad held up bolts of fabric. She held up yards of ribbons and lace. The more they looked, the more they found one another getting more and more excited.
“I need a different pattern, but similar to this,” Vlad told her looking at one lace in particular.
“Do you know the design that you want? Can you draw it?” Hakuno found herself asking.
“Of course.”
“Draw it later. Let’s get some thread and I’ll do it myself.”
The man stared at her. “…my dear, do you realize what you are saying? Lacework is not like knitting or stitching-“
“It takes longer. It’s arduous. It can become obnoxious after a time and we’ll need to buy some equipment for putting the various mechanisms for making the lace, but I can do it if you want.”
The man stared at her a moment before he smiled again.
“…I would like that very much, Hakuno.”
“We’re close friends, aren’t we?”
He was the only one that didn’t make demands of her at this point. He didn’t look at her with suspicion like the members of Chaldea or Merlin. He didn’t come onto her like the two Gilgamesh. He just- enjoyed having her around.
They were friends, Hakuno realized, feeling the man hug her a moment before he went to look for lace making equipment.
“I like him,” the voice in her head stated bluntly.
I love Gil.
“I know… But don’t lose Vlad. He’s wonderful and I want my last few days in your mind to be filled with one friend. I never had one before. I don’t think I ever got to really speak to much of anyone.”
Hakuno stared off, towards the window. She could feel a slight burning in her eyes as the woman said that, leaving her to shake her head and hurry after their friend.
If her voice would fade soon, then she would make this a happier trip than it already was.
Will your talents remain?
“Of course. They are now your talents, Hakuno. I’m sure a few memories of mine will linger too.”
How exciting. She hoped nothing embarrassing would be left. Her own awkward moments would probably be enough when they came back.
“Hakuno!” Vlad motioned to a series of threads nearby, bidding her to join him.
“This looks like a nice material for your lace. Are you trying to get it to compliment the white fabric you picked out?”
“I am indeed. Good eye,” he praised. “We will finish this and return. This will be more than enough to-“
He paused.
Hakuno glanced behind herself a moment before looking to him.
“Is something wrong?”
“I sense my mana draining.”
“Mana draining?”
The berserker nodded, pulling out a device from his pocket before he cursed. “Something happened. We’re trapped here.”
“What do you mean?!”
Gilgamesh would be pissed when he found out. Both of them would. She’d be lucky if she was banned to their rooms. She’d end up probably tied to their bed by the end of this fiasco.
“…I’m sure it’s nothing,” the man told her. “Let’s purchase and get a hotel room. I can charge this infernal device and we can contact Chaldea.”
With a small, forced smile, he motioned her towards the register.
“I’m sure Gudako is just having a momentary problem with getting me mana.”
She hoped he was right.
She was getting a bad feeling about this.

Nice Things
A/N: I think I mentioned this one a while back. Here is the one shot that developed from another story I’m working on. I will post it on Fanfiction as soon as I wrestle the answers from this Chromebooks framework on just HOW to do that. But for now I thought you guys would like this.
-----
Lavender was probably one of the most boring conversationalists Ron had ever met. She was vapid and gave no thought to the questions he asked trying to keep things going.
Here was the thing though.
Lavender was nice.
It was like a breath of fresh air. They would be doing homework together and she’d glance over, reading one of his answers and… ‘Oh, I like the way you worded that, Ron.’ They would be walking around the lake and she’d turn and blush and go ‘I never get tired of catching your eye. Have you ever seen a moonflower? That’s what it reminds me of, the petals.’ When she traced his chest with her hand she always smiled. When they ate together she never seemed to even notice what he put on his plate or how much he ate.
She said whatever came to mind and nothing that came to mind was ever bad about him and that was… It was a relief. He felt normal around her, like just being himself was good enough.
Best of all, when Ron gave compliments, she cared. She beamed and interlaced their fingers. She smiled shyly and tugged him along. She was sweet and talkative and wanted to be around him and said nice things about him and to him.
It made him realize no one else ever said anything nice to him. Outside of Harry who was determined to increase his confidence for Quidditch. Oh, he realized their teasing was in jest. He knew the small things they sniped at him for were just that. Small things. He knew the comments had no ill intent.
But they never stopped.
He couldn’t remember the last nice thing someone had said to him was. He wracked his brain and tried and tried and tried, but… there was nothing.
“You know,” Lavender said thoughtfully, using a little too much tongue to lick her lollipop. “Your hands have been pretty cold lately.”
“Oh,” Ron said, pulling away apologetically. “Sorry.”
Lavender shook her head, smiling. She picked up a pair of blue gloves from the shelf at the shop they were looking through in Hogesmeade before going over to the register and buying them.
“You don’t have to do that!” Ron tried to stop her, his ears turning red, but she was already walking back. Lavender grabbed his hand, spreading his much larger, longer fingers against her dainty digits.
“You know, I’ve had a crush on you since we were in the DA together last year,” she admitted.
“Really?”
“You were always so excited when you got a spell right. It was infectious. You’ve just got this grin that lights up the whole room and when you laugh? Everyone stops for a second and it just… melts the tension in the room.”
Ron didn’t know what to say or how to react.
Lavender didn’t seem to mind. She pulled the blue gloves on his hands. They had a heating charm in them. His fingers instantly becoming toasty.
“Thank you.”
He didn’t just mean for the gloves.
------------------
Of course, Lavender craved more than her boyfriend’s attention, she craved social attention. She thrived on it. Her personality going overboard when others were around.
Won Won was solely for Hermione’s ears and Ron wasn’t sure whether to be amused or horrified. She purposefully snogged him in a relentless almost desperate fashion when they were in public and it was becoming rather humiliating.
He definitely liked the physical contact.
It was just that he’d really rather do it somewhere less on display and… less. She tended to let her hand wander and that made him feel very uncomfortable. He wasn’t sure how to bring it up with her though. Every time he had the conversation in his head, the words came out too harsh and mean. He never wanted to be harsh or mean to Lavender.
Worse.
He’d officially run out of every topic he could think of and if they talked about what type of clothes she planned to buy on her winter holiday one more time, he might throw himself off the astronomy tower.
He missed Hermione.
Discussing the mechanics of a Charm. Arguing about what the best approach for house elf freedom was. Going over politics and the Ministry’s moves, what was You-Know-Whose influence and what was simply bad policy. Explaining historical facts from the wizarding cultures view versus muggle. Talking transfiguration methods and knit picking at what the other cares about.
He felt as if he hadn’t had an intelligent conversation in ages. Not that Lavender wasn’t smart. She just had different priorities and that was fine. Lavender wanted to work for her Aunt’s Fashion Magazine in the French wizarding community. She spoke the language fluently and seemed pretty talented when it came to magical sewing and design.
Ron had never been able to choose his own clothes before. He’d simply accepted whatever left over, hand me down, second hand items came his way and tried not to cringe too much about it so it left discussions… lacking. Unfortunately the more Ron tried to hint that they didn’t have much in common and that they were quickly running short, the harder Lavender clung. She avoided the conversation like the plague and it all left him feeling sick with guilt.
He’d hoped she felt the same way.
She didn’t.
Any time he tried to say anything now, her lips were covering his. She was desperate for this not to happen and Ron felt sickened at the idea of doing it. So he started avoiding her.
That did not sit well with the House of Gryffindor.
The house of chivalry and courage.
Hermione was smug and Harry was weary and Ron didn’t know what the fuck he was doing. He was drawing a blank. There was a giant empty slot where the guide to ‘How to Break up With a Nice Girl Without Hurting Her Feelings,’ should have been.
“You’re a right shitbag, Weasley,” Seamus told him one morning.
And what could Ron say to that?
He felt like a shitbag.
All those nice things Lavender had to say about him didn’t feel right anymore. They felt undeserved and Ron found himself looking in the mirror wondering if there was anything at all good about him. If only one person had good things to say and Ron was hurting that one person then what did that make him?
Why could he never do anything right?
-------------------
Ah, well, there was nothing like being poisoned and nearly dying to make everyone forgive you for being a douchebag. He supposed. So he was surprised and not surprised when Lavender showed up again on his last night in the hospital wing.
She came in looking at the ground, her lips pressed together and hair in a disarray. Ron stayed still, tense and expectant, but when Lavender looked up she smiled at him. A small thing that was too sad for such a pretty face and Ron told her that.
Her smile became more genuine.
She sighed. The noise whipping out with exasperation, though Ron didn’t think it was directed at him. She sat on the bed, directly on his legs to be more precise before reaching forward and lightly flicking him on the nose.
“We made a right mess of this, didn’t we?”
We.
Ron felt warm inside. Unused to not being blamed for everything.
“I’m sorry,” he told her, sincere.
Tears flooded her eyes, but she waved it away.
“Mother tells me I overdo things,” she admitted. “I refuse to recognize when something doesn’t fit and keep trying to shove the triangle into the circle hole because I want the triangle to fit into everything.”
She shrugged, looking up at the ceiling rather than him.
“So, I’m sorry too, I know you were trying to do it nicely and I just…”
Another sigh.
“It’s okay,” Ron was quick to assure you. “You really are amazing though. You’re going to go really far, literally, France is like a whole ‘nother world.”
He knew it was cheesy, but she laughed anyways before turning somber.
“I’m sorry people have been so nasty to you,” Lavender told the ceiling. “I was a coward and I didn’t want to admit to anyone that you had been trying to break up with me. I’ve never actually been broken up with before, you know, usually I’m the one who makes the decision.”
“Sorry,” Ron mumbled again, more for a lack of anything else to say.
Lavender laughed. It was loud and she snorted as she tried to stifle it.
“But Ron,” she finally looked at him, dark brown eyes practically glittering with mirth. “I have never seen or read anywhere, in the history of fashion magazines or romance novels someone worse at breaking up with someone. That’s the honest truth.”
Ron blushed, feeling his face and ears turning hot.
“I don’t exactly have a well of experience to pull from,” he mumbled.
Lavender’s mirth turned fond.
“Well, I’m glad I could be your first,” she kissed him then. A short, sweet kiss that was much more reminiscent of their time alone than out in public. Then she adjusted his shirt, smoothing it out for much longer than was needed. “I know you can’t help it, but when you’re all handsome and grown up and have that Auror job I know you’ll get… invest in bright blue scarves and shirts, like the gloves I got you. They bring out your eyes in the best way. Winter fashion is where you thrive. Not Fall. And for all that is good in this world, Ronald Weasley, do not let Hermoine Granger choose your clothes.”
Ron blinked.
“Why would…?”
She kissed him one last time, a bit deeper, to shut him up. His lips turned amused against her, a chuckle falling out between them. She was warm against him. Her forehead tapping against his lightly as she pulled away. Her fingers ran through his hair, her eyes fixated on it in a way he couldn’t name exactly.
“Ron?”
“Hm?”
“Don’t let them tell you that your feelings aren’t important. Okay? Don’t tell yourself that they aren’t important.”
She pulled herself away, detaching her body from his legs. He hadn’t even noticed when they’d gone numb. Ron felt himself flay a bit. He didn’t want to let her leave like that. With it being so one sided.
“You’re…” Ron swallowed, Lavender paused at the hospital door, not turning around. “I’m really glad that you were my first girlfriend and I think, if we’d had a few more things in common, that it might have turned into something more. I really mean it. You are so much more than just a pretty face.”
Because he knew she worried about that and they both knew people talked about her like that around the school. As if she wouldn’t amount to anything but some over glorified house wife and that was wrong.
“You don’t need to have perfect O.W.L.S or slave away at homework or sports to make something of yourself. Its hogwash. You’re brilliant. Wickedly brilliant. Schools just… school measures paperwork and only sees a tiny part of who a person is. It doesn’t measure how you do at life or with people or how much potential you have. You’re gonna do great.”
Her hand clenched against the door frame. She didn’t turn back to face him, but he saw her nod. Quick and sharp, her whole frame seeming to waver on the spot, and then her spine straightened and she wiped at her eyes with her sleeves and before Ron could say anything else, she marched out of the room altogether.
He sat back against the frame of the hospital bed, feeling lighter than he has in a good long time. Keeping the nice things she’d said close to his heart and repeating them as he fell asleep. If he kept them close enough, long enough, maybe they might give him the courage to ignore the small things that cluttered his heart like barbed wire.
Lavender Brown might not be his soul mate or such, but she’d taught him a lot. She would always hold a special place in his heart because of that. Harry and Hermione… he didn’t think either of them would understand. Ron wasn’t the best at explaining things and neither of them were the best at listening when he stumbled over his words and meanings.
It would be just a nice thing between Lavender and him.
And that was fine.

The Night Watch
Stepping out of the hazardous ruins at night is a most peculiar feeling. After the intense humidity of the sewer-like dungeons, the cold air seems balmy. Of course, temperature is the last thing in your mind right now. There's sweat running down your cheek, blood under your nails, and slime matting your hair to your forehead. With dirty fingers, you coax your hair into a ponytail, letting the cool night air dance across your sweaty skin. A slight breeze blows up from the Portia River, instantly sending chills up and down your spine. Usually, when you're out at night, you bundle up tight, covered in wool coats, furry scarves, and knit hats. But not tonight.
You slowly peel off the top half of your overalls and tie the straps around your waist. Then off comes your dirty, ripped flannel. Upon closer inspection, you notice a long, jagged gash in the sleeve that wasn't there before, which makes you curse worse than Sanwa on a boat. That was your best flannel! Sturdy, yet comfortable. Colorful yet stylish. You wore that shirt with everything. Still muttering profanities under your breath, you promise to sew up the hole the minute you get home tonight, and tie it around your waist as well. You shiver a bit in just your tank top, but at least you're not dying from heat now.
You take a seat on the steps in front of the ruins, stretching your legs out in front of you in an effort to get comfortable. The moonlight illuminates every cut and scrape on your arms and chest, causing you to take inventory of every single one. Most seem inconsequential, save for one rather deep cut in your upper arm. Luckily, Phyllis sent you a first aid kit in the mail a couple weeks ago, and it's just been sitting around, waiting for you to use it. You brought it along, not thinking you'd need it. Yet here you are, blessing the gods and the wonder that is Phyllis for it. Cleaning out the dirt hurts like the devil, and if you didn't think you'd wake up the whole town, you'd be screaming. You wrap a medicated bandage around the wound, and immediately sigh with incredible relief.
Taking a moment to yourself, you lean back, admiring the full moon and glistening stars. You can't help but wonder if there's life beyond the world you know. All your life, you believed that what was left of the world before Peach was just remnants. Leftovers for you to find and use. It never occurred to you that those leftovers might be alive. And yet, not three days earlier, space stations come crashing down around you. Robots come alive with no knowledge of the modern world. Who knows what else could be up there? The uncertainty scares you. There's just so much you don't know.
You sigh and push yourself back up. There's not enough time in the day for you to be worrying about robots and extraterrestrials. There's work to be done. You pull over your pack from where it lay on the ground, and pull out your spoils. You laugh softly. When you first arrived in Portia, delusions of grandeur clouded your mind. You expected to be walking out of the ruins clean and unhurt, arms full of precious gems and valuable metals. Past you would have shuddered at the state of your hands now. Past you would have snorted at the items you choose to pull off of the monsters you fight. Instead of sapphires and rubies, you search for power stones and blood stones. Instead of gold and silver, you look for rusty springs and old parts. Past you would laugh at your excitement over dirty machinery and tools. These days, though, you're finally happy. Hard work makes you happy.
You flip open the flap of your pack, and a wide grin splits your face. The fruits of your labor lay inside: vibrant blue crystals, cans of tempering liquid, springs, wrenches, vials of venom, and more fill your pack to the brim. Silicon chips are tucked into a small pocket on the side of your pack. But what you most proud of is the two industrial engines you found deep in the bowels of the ruins. You nearly died fighting that chemical dropout guarding them, but that iron sword you recently forged really made all the difference. Once you shoved the slimy corpse off of the platform he inhabited, the engines were yours. You wrapped them carefully in the thick scarves you made specifically for them before packing them away in your bag. You dig through your lot for a bit, already picturing all the things you'll make with these new materials. You thumb through the sleeves of the new disc holder you made to hold your data discs, admiring the way each one is proudly displayed behind a sheet of clear plastic. Petra called the holder a "binder", and told you that people once used them to hold important papers they didn't want to get ruined. You found about twenty data discs in there, each one carefully extracted from the corpses of defeated enemies and hidden chests, the slime and blood wiped away before being stored away. You're giddy with excitement over all the things you're going to build. If it wasn't so late at night, you'd rush home right now and get to work. There is this comprehensive grinder you've always wanted to try out.
You're just getting ready to head home when your remember just how disgustingly dirty your new sword is now that it's been through the sewers. You go to open the small pocket on the front of your pack, but realize too late that the last time you cleaned your sword, you forgot to put everything back in order. Tubes of soap, dissolving agent, and wax tumble out onto the ground, followed by dirty rags, a handful of whetting stones, and a small bag of clean cloth strips for waxing. You scramble after all of your tools, and once it's all set up in a somewhat organized fashion, you make quick work of the the blade, cleaning off all the grime and grinding away at the nicks in the metal. When you're done, you make sure you pack all of your supplies away in good order before strapping your sword to your back and setting off towards town.
The minute you step out of the collapsed wasteland, your shoulders drop and you let out the breath you didn't know you were holding. Even at night, you know you have to constantly be in your guard. Who knows what kind of monsters you'll encounter when the rest of the world goes to sleep.
You take your time walking down the cobblestone road into town, admiring Portia at night. Evidence of you and your contributions to Portia are visible everywhere: the Dee Dee stops you used regularly are lovingly maintained, and the street lights you installed brighten the streets and cast a beautiful golden glow onto the facades of the shops crowded around Central Plaza. You pause at the top of the stairs, taking some time to yawn and look out beyond the walls of Portia. Beyond their relative safety thrives a beautiful yet dangerous world. Beyond them lie Bassanio Falls, the Eufaula Desert, Amber and Starlight Islands, the harbor, and the Western Plateau. Portia is so much bigger than you pictured before you came. Now the world seems to be bursting with possibilities. Just thinking about it makes you exhausted. Or maybe you're just tired. Either way, you have to get home before you fall over.
You take a step down the stairs into Central Plaza, but are assaulted by a wave of exhaustion. Picking up your feet is so hard, and the weight of your pack weighs you down. Your eyelids droop dangerously, and in the back of your mind, you know you just have to get to the bottom and then it's a few steps more to the benches you can take a quick nap on. But you're just about to the bottom when your foot slips and you tumble down the last few steps, hitting your head on one of them, knocking you out.
---
Arlo was absent minded, riding back into Portia from South Block. Sam and Remington were equally braindead in their saddles, focused only in getting back to their homes in the city. As they crossed the bridge, Arlo's mind drifted to the weeks of work and upheaval Albert, Gust, Mint, and their respective teams put into the project. Most vividly, however, to Arlo's surprise, he remembered the new builder. They had truly come to life in the process of building up South Block. They flew back and forth between projects like one of those tiny Skipper birds flew back and forth from flower to flower. It was like watching a whole different person work.
It had taken a few months for them to get used to life in Portia: Arlo didn't think they were used to working so much. The early days were filled with complaining and stomping. They didn't even want to get their hands dirty. But what was so impressive was how talented they were. The new builder easily adapted to new projects and ideas. They put such care and precision into their work. New blueprints never fazed them- anything Presley put them up to, they delivered, time and time again.
Things started to change when the river was poisoned. It was the first project, Arlo realized, where the new builder felt a duty to Portia to help, not simply for monetary gain. They flourished, taking more pride in their work than ever. And now, most recently, he had watched from afar during the bridge project, as they welded together steel shells and frames, built buses and windmills and power generators, and attached cables and lights. South Block was built up at an incredible rate, faster than even Gust, ever the over achiever, had planned.
Arlo was brought out of his daydreaming when Sam let out a gasp. Arlo swept his eyes around the Plaza, looking for danger, adrenaline racing. But what he saw scared him more than a potential threat. The new builder lay on the ground, mechanical parts strewn around them, backpack open and empty. A small dark pool of what looked like blood saturated the ground around their head. The three of them bolted forward, but Arlo got to them first, swinging himself off of his horse, using his momentum to run to their side. He signaled to Remington and Sam to search the area for enemies, before turning his attention to the new builder. He checked them for spinal injuries, and upon finding none, he rolled them over to check for more injuries. A large welt on their forehead indicated a fall, and the sprawl of their supplies meant they fell from a height. Arlo was sure they'd been attacked, especially when he found a bloody streak on the stairs, probably left when they were pushed down. Remington stepped up next to him, startling him.
"They haven't been here very long." Remington's deep voice broke the silence. "The attack must have been recent. Sam's doing her usual perimeter search." Arlo sighed. He was hoping to hear a different verdict from Remington, anything but an attack, but to his dismay, Remington agreed. He nodded vaguely before unclipping his first aid kit from his horse, settling down next to the new builder's side and wrapping their head wound in a bandage. As he did so, Sam came back, shaking her head.
"I got nothing," she said, coming to a stop next to Remington's horse. "It could have been anyone, anything. If they were attacked, whoever did it is long gone, and left no clues to who it was."
Sam's words sent a chill down Arlo's spine. He couldn't imagine someone wanting to hurt the new builder- once you got past their arrogant and egotistical exterior, there was actually a kind, caring, and deeply sensitive interior. They were hardworking and endearing and gorgeous and- what was he thinking?! He couldn't possibly be thinking these thoughts about the new builder, especially not now. He needed to be impartial and focused, not harboring feelings for the new builder. Feelings like that cloud judgement, Arlo thought, thinking back to the time Remington held a crush for Sam, and how anytime Sam went out on her own, he worried and babbled. Arlo wouldn't be like that, he couldn't. Not at the leader of the Civil Corps.
"Should we take them up to the clinic? Wake up Doctor Xu this late at night?" Arlo thought aloud. Sam shook her head in agreement.
"We should-"
But before she could go any further, the new builder stirred and moaned quietly.
---
You slowly open your eyes, bright golden light streaming in and making your eyes water. You must have fallen asleep on the ground on your way home. But there's something wrong about this. You could have sworn you'd made it to one of the benches, but now you're definitely on the ground. And for as bright as the sunrise is, the sky is awfully dark. And your head, you're starting to realize, is throbbing with intense pain. What happened to you?
A dark shape appears in your vision, then two, then three. They look oddly human, but you can't tell in the light. A voice calls out to you.
"Are you okay?" It's a man's voice, deep and throaty. You open your mouth to speak, but find you can't. You nod instead, sending a sharp pain through your head. You go to sit up, but a hand pushes your shoulder back down.
"Don't move." The voice is distinctly feminine now. "You hit your head on the stairs." You moan again, and you feel a hand in your hair, massaging your scalp. The fingers are large and calloused, and your headache is almost immediately soothed by the rhythmic movements.
"I want to go home," you croak, hoping one of the voices will listen and take you back to your comfy new bed. The hand shifts, rubbing the back of your neck now.
"I'll take you," It's a new voice, though one you know quite well, one you're incredibly attracted to. Your eyes fly open, and you take in the scene around you. It's still late at night, judging by the position of the moon in the sky. The golden light you saw was just a nearby street lamp. Remington is pacing back and forth at your feet, looking deep in thought. Sam sits cross legged next to you, head in hands. Arlo kneels by your head, hand deep in your hair, massaging you gently.
"We can't take her home," Sam protests, looking earnestly at Remington. "They clearly needs a doctor's attention."
"It's just a headache," you say, to no one in particular, really. Remington laughs softly.
"It's hardly just a headache." He says to you. "We think your were attacked coming down the stairs. Doctor Xu needs to assess your condition and make sure there's no lasting damage."
You clear your throat to speak better. "I wasn't attacked. I was just too tired and fell asleep on my feet." And you're about to fall asleep again if you stay here any longer.
There's a moment of stunned disbelief before Arlo bursts out laughing. You hear a vague mumble of "only you" under his laugh. Sam and Remington join in as well, and you feel your cheeks blush in embarrassment. You watch as Arlo and Sam stand, repack your burgeoning backpack, and strap it onto Arlo's back. Arlo comes back to you, and slides his hands under your legs and back, holding you close to his chest as he picks you up. You curl into his chest as he says goodbye to Sam and Remington, sending them home for the night. As he walks away, your feel your eyes drooping once again, this time the gentle rocking motion of Arlo's footsteps lulling you to sleep.
"I love you," you murmur deliriously until Arlo's jacket, not really noticing what you're saying. Arlo's arms tense around you, and his steps falter a bit, and you can hear his heartbeat quicken under your ear. But you fall asleep before you can say anything else.

Proprietor audits and master remarks all highlight a quality modernized sewing machine that won't disillusion. The Janome highlights 50 implicit lines - including 3 buttonholes. Join quality is top notch with the Superior Feed System (SFS) that Janome supplies.
We discovered positive purchaser input from those doing article of clothing sewing, scrapbooking, sewing, or home embellishments. A dependable workhouse for those that need to up their game from a mechanical sewing machine. Ideal update for amateurs and those further developed will acknowledge what Janome offers. August Prompts- Day 25 (Saint)
“And here is our Robotics facility, see that machine over there?” Neil pointed towards the center of the round room. It almost felt like an assembly line, with a huge computer coming down from the ceiling and connected to the floor. It’s robotic arm swung around to its next destination very precisely, and obviously mechanically.
“First the body needs to be constructed. Each of these parts of course is made with their own set of specifications-”
The arm reached into these tubes and pulled out what were essentially parts from the human skeletal system. A ribcage, femurs, arms, hands, fingers, pieces of the spine, all of them fitting together like a puzzle.
Liam could barely keep his mouth closed the entire time. Neil led him along as the eye of the machine checked the body for any error. Once it passed the quality check, it was lifted into the next area where the machine extended these almost-knitting-needle-like devices and began to ‘sew’ the muscle onto the frame.
“This is...unbelievable- how did you develop anything like this-”
Neil smiled a tired smile. “And to think I haven’t even shown you all the Institute is capable of. These synths are what we’ve been focusing on as of late, so I thought to show you these first. ...I don’t know if you’ve heard all that nonsense going around up there...” The eye examined the body again, and then moved it to the next station.
“Nonsense? Like what?” Liam glanced over and up to his son, unable to really tear his eyes away from the construction.
“Well, things like synths having souls and possessing free will, you know, minds of their own. The ability to be their own people.” Two larger needles came out of the machine again and were stuck into various points in the body, jolting it with electricity. The muscles began to twitch, quite alive in a sense. Liam wasn’t too sure. Whatever was happening, the muscle tissue slowly began to fade into this brighter red color, suggestion blood circulation. Was there any though??
“What do you mean?”
“There’s an organization out there, this, Railroad I think they call themselves. They’re some liberation group, claiming they need to free synths from out control. There isn’t any control being had as though they were slaves, as you can well see. We create them, and like any...robot if you will, they were designed and built to specifically follow human input. They are not people. They’re our creations.”
The machine lifted up the synth body for one final point in the assembly line. In the middle was a pool of this pink-ish, red liquid.
“What is that?”
“You’ll see.”
The body was dipped into it and held there, and for a few seconds nothing happened. Liam barely realized he was holding his breath until he gasped as a body rose from the concoction. It had skin, and- well it had skin. Eyes, possibly organs. No hair to speak of quite yet (maybe that stage was later.) If anyone else had looked and hid the backdrop of the Institute away, they might very well say they were looking at a real human being.
On cue, the newly formed man slowly walked out of the pool and down a marked path towards a small door being guarded by a synth. The word PROCESSING glowed right above it. “Please step this way.”
“Where...where am I?”
“All will be explained soon, please step this way for further processing.”
Liam suddenly felt...something. He couldn’t really describe it though.
“See? We can make them quickly now. You should have seen how it was before.” Neil said, sounding very light-hearted about it all. “What do you think?”
“It’s...”
What could he say? What SHOULD he say? That the whole process was impressive and amazing? Because it was. But whatever walked out of that pool. Liam saw its eyes. HIS eyes. That man, who was still a synth. Something was...ALIVE in there, but he knew he could never prove it.
As wonderful as this all was on a scientific level, for the first time in his life, it felt…
Wrong.
“It’s...sure something, son.”
Neil’s expression faltered a little. “...You don’t like it do you?”
“What?- No no I think it’s absolutely brilliant! T-To think we’ve come all this way in- in what, two hundred or so years-”
The Director didn’t respond and let Liam flail around verbally for a little bit. “...Ah well, there are many other areas of the Institute to look at. This was only the beginning, let’s leave them to their work here.”
Liam swallowed and tried to intervene again in the conversation but he found that he couldn’t. Instead, he followed Neil quietly, looking back as another synth- another near-human- crawled out of the pool.
Neil was no saint, Liam knew that. But that wasn’t the problem.
It was those synths.

[clickbank-storefront-bestselling] • Destiny was a machine built over time, each choice that you made in life adding another gear, another conveyor belt, another assemblyman. Where you ended up was the product that was spit out at the end—and there was no going back for a redo. You couldn‟t take a peek at what you‟d manufactured and decide, Oh, wait, I wanted to make sewing machines instead of machine guns; let me go back to the beginning and start again. One shot. That was all you got. – J.R. Ward
• Even though I’m resting I’m accomplishing something by sewing that shirt that I’ve been meaning to sew for weeks. And it’s relaxing. It’s so very meditative and quiet and enjoyable. But at least I’m producing something. I’m being productive in some way. I have a very hard time being completely idle. – Evangeline Lilly • For a long time Christianity has sewn its teachings into the fabric of Western culture. That was a good thing …. But the season of sewing is ending. Now is a time for rending, not for the sake of disengaging from culture or retreating from the public square, but so that our salt does not lose its savor. – R. R. Reno • From about eight years old I was always making things on the sewing machine. Friends would see me making dresses and costumes, and I’d use difficult fabrics such as Lycra and elastic. But you know, my dad was creative and my brother is inventive too. – Melissa George • God is not remote from us. He is at the point of my pen, my (pick) shovel, my paint brush, my (sewing) needle – and my heart and thoughts. – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin • Grace cannot wipe out the law of sewing and reaping. – Rod Parsley • He [my father] didn’t have a basement workshop as such, but I know that he did build things, construct things, repair things. My mother, likewise, was sewing and doing activities that often take place in a household. – Paul Smith • Here she was, being rescued by a socialist, feminist, lesbian, baby-killing, foreign terrorist. What would the ladies in the sewing circle say to that? – Hillary Jordan • How odd it is that sewing is thought to be ‘women’s work’ when surgeons, sailors, and cowboys sew too. Yet how many female thoracic surgeons are there? And if precision motor activities are thought to be performed better by women, why wouldn’t they make better surgeons too? – Gretel Ehrlich • I actually wanted to be a fashion designer. I did a lot with the sewing machine at home – – for Barbie or for carnival or just for fun. Then I saw this ad in the newspaper. And as young girls sometimes do some stupid things, I filled in the coupon and sent in my photos. – Heidi Klum • I always had the fear of being separated and abandoned. The sewing is my attempt to keep things together and make things whole. – Louise Bourgeois • I am certain that a Sewing Machine would relieve as much human suffering as a hundred Lunatic Asylums, and possibly a good deal more. – Margaret Atwood • I am told by those who know that there are six varieties of hangover-the Broken Compass, the Sewing Machine, the Comet, the Atomic, the Cement Mixer and the Gremlin Boogie, and his manner suggested that he had got them all. – P. G. Wodehouse • I come from a family of musicians. Even the sewing machine is a Singer. – Frank Carson • I don’t collect things per se, but I do pick up things as I go. Like, in my studio I have an old sewing machine from Germany that my dad gave me, and then something else that I got from a friend in India, and a piece of flooring from one of my shows. – Jason Wu • I don’t like sewing machines. I don’t understand how a needle with a thread going through the tip of it can interlock the thread by jamming itself into a little goddamn spool. It’s contrary to nature and it irritates me. – Neal Stephenson • I don’t really have a domestic inclination. Even my apartment has a semblance of a storage facility. It’s just stacks, there are no bookshelves, just books and piles of stamp collections and weird little sewing and knitting projects. – Sufjan Stevens • I feel like I am always the one tearing everything up and forever sewing it back together. – Saadat Hasan Manto • I hate a woman who offers herself because she ought to do so, and cold and dry thinks of her sewing when making love. – Ovid • I have a great admiration and tenderness for Azzedine Alaia. I haven’t seen him in a while, but I guess he must be still sewing some dresses at night. – Hedi Slimane • I have an iPod, but I do still love CDs. There’s something nice and tangible about a CD. I’m a mixture of old and new – I love my sewing machine, but I’ve also embraced new technology. The iPad is what did it for me – it’s extraordinary. – Twiggy • I have written most of my melodies walking and I feel it is definitely one of the most helpful ways of sewing all of the different things in your life together and seeing the whole picture. – Bjork • I need a little language such as lovers use, words of one syllable such as children speak when they come into the room and find their mother sewing and pick up some scrap of bright wool, a feather, or a shred of chintz. I need a howl; a cry. When the storm crosses the marsh and sweeps over me where I lie in the ditch unregarded I need no words. Nothing neat. Nothing that comes down with all its feet on the floor. None of those resonances and lovely echoes that break and chime from nerve to nerve in our breasts making wild music, false phrases. I have done with phrases. – Virginia Woolf • I preferred sewing to bossing little children. – Mother Jones • I remember an old Singer sewing machine at home that belonged to my grandmother. It had a pedal. My mom taught me how to use it when I was 12 years old. I used to find it so intriguing, how a flat piece of material could be made into an object that had so many uses. – Bibhu Mohapatra • I stand before you as the governor of Texas but also stand before you the son of two tenant farmers. Ray Perry who came home after 35 bombing missions over Europe to work his little corner of land out there and Amelia who made sure that my sister Milla and I had everything that we needed, included hand sewing my clothes until I went off to college. – Rick Perry • I started designing and getting into cutting and sewing, I also started learning how to do patterns and tech packs. From there I transitioned from challenging myself to make T-shirts to starting to make custom pieces for celebrities. – Fred Foster • I think it’s a real shame so many schools have taken out the hands-on classes. Art, music, auto mechanics, cooking, sewing, these are all things that can turn into jobs. You know, wood shop, steel shop, welding. These are all things that can turn into great careers, get kids interested. Things they can do with other students. Other things for our word thinkers: journalism clubs, drama clubs. – Temple Grandin • I think one of the worst things schools have done is taken out all of the stuff like art, music, woodworking, sewing, cooking, welding, auto-shop. All these things you can turn into careers. How can you get interested in these careers if you don’t try them on a little bit? – Temple Grandin • I took my husband to the hospital yesterday to have 17 stitches out – that’ll teach him to buy me a sewing kit for my birthday. – Jo Brand • I use filming as an excuse to take classes. I got my certification in sailing for ‘Wedding Crashers,’ and now I can handle a 26-foot boat. I played a seamstress once, so I took sewing classes. I love dipping into these other lives. – Rachel McAdams • I was never really that great at sewing, but I had a good idea of what I wanted things to look like. – Bethany Cosentino • I wondered about Mrs. Winterbottom and what she meant about living a tiny life. If she didn’t like all that baking and cleaning and jumping up to get bottles of nail polish remover and sewing hems, why did she do it? Why didn’t she tell them to do some of the things themselves? Maybe she was afraid there would be nothing left for her to do. There would be no need for her and she would become invisible and no one would notice. – Sharon Creech • I’ve worked in construction, in a factory sewing clothes. I also sold flowers and doughnuts – just odd jobs to try to make 10 pesos, which is equivalent to 20 cents. – Manny Pacquiao • If instead of looking at income, you look at levels of consumption, if anything that’s become more equal. The fraction of families that have a dishwasher, that have a sewing machine, that have a television set. In respect to consumption, it’s very hard to avoid the view that people have been getting more equal rather than more unequal. – Milton Friedman • If the sewing societies, the avails of whose industry are now expended in supporting and educating young men for the ministry, were to withdraw their contributions to these objects, and give them where they are more needed, to their advancement of their own sex in useful learning, the next generation might furnish sufficient proof, that in intelligence and ability to master the whole circle of sciences, woman is not inferior to man. – Sarah Moore Grimke • If we didn’t want to upset anyone, we would make films about sewing, but even that could be dangerous. But I think finally, in a film, it is how the balance is and the feelings are. But I think there has to be those contrasts and strong things within a film for the total experience. – David Lynch • If women were once permitted to read Sophocles and work with logarithms, or to nibble at any side of the apple of knowledge, there would be an end forever to their sewing on buttons and embroidering slippers. – Anna Julia Cooper • If you don’t have experience sewing, start with that, because that will inform what you are able to design. – Tim Gunn • I’m always tinkering with something – suddenly I’ll think I can work with wood, but then I’ll realize I can’t, so I go back to sewing. – Melissa McCarthy • In an age in which the classic words of the Surrealists— ‘As beautiful as the unexpected meeting, on a dissecting table, of a sewing machine and an umbrella’—can become reality and perfectly achievable with an atom bomb, so too has there been a surge of interest in biomechanoids – H. R. Giger • In fact, he’s never taken an interest in a woman before. I was beginning to to suspect he might prefer one of his male sneaks, but now…” She paused dramatically. “Now, we have the lovely, intelligent Yelena to get Valek’s cold heart pumping.” “You really should get out of your sewing room more. You need fresh air and a dose of reality,” I said knowing better than to believe a word Dilana said, but unable to control the silly little grin on my face. Her sweet, melodious laughter followed me into the hallway. “You know I’m right, ” she called. – Maria V. Snyder • In Seattle you haven’t had enough coffee until you can thread a sewing machine while it’s running. – Jeff Bezos • In some hotels they give you a little sewing kit. You know what I do? I sew the towels together. One time I sewed a button on a lampshade. I like to leave a mark. – George Carlin • I’ve always been altering clothing my entire life. But I would have to say my first real amateur endeavor would have to be drawing, designing and then literally cutting and sewing every piece of costume for my first band I formed in Hollywood. – Ashley Purdy • I’ve had to guess at her, sewing her skin together as I sew mine, though with a different stitch. – Adrienne Rich • Kids think with their brains cracked wide open; becoming an adult, I’ve decided, is only a slow sewing shut. – Jodi Picoult • Like all our memories, we like to take it out once in a while and lay it flat on the kitchen table, the way my wife does with her sewing patterns, where we line up the shape of our lives against that which we thought it would be by now. – Claire Vaye Watkins • Mama sewed the rags together, sewing every piece with love. She made my coat of many colors that I was proud of. – Dolly Parton • Mama’s love had always been the kind that acted itself out with soup pot and sewing basket. But now that these things were taken away, the love seemed as whole as before. She sat in her chair at the window and loved us. She loved the people she saw in the street– and beyond: her love took in the city, the land of Holland, the world. And so I learned that love is larger than the walls which shut it in. – Corrie Ten Boom • Motherhood is a Sisyphean task. You finish sewing one seam shut, and another rips open. I have come to believe that this life I’m wearing will never really fit. – Jodi Picoult • My grandmother raised five children during the Depression by herself. At 50, she threw her sewing machine into the back of a pickup truck and drove from North Dakota to California. She was a real survivor, so that’s my stock. That’s how I want my kids to be too. – Michelle Pfeiffer • My mother was kept very busy with her sewing; sometimes she would have another woman helping her. – James Weldon Johnson • My regular life today is reading books, making dolls houses, sewing dolls with my daughter and barbequing. – Milla Jovovich • No one expects a woman busy at her sewing to pay attention to what’s being said around her. Nevermind if a man’s mother and sister showerd them they heard everything while they stictched, he’ll still think a woman who plies her needles saves all her brains for the work. You’re a far better spy hemming sheets than if you clank with daggers. – Tamora Pierce • One has to watch out for engineers. They begin with the sewing machine and end up with the atomic bomb. – Marcel Pagnol • Poetry is a bad medium for philosophy. Everything in the philosophical poem has to satisfy irreconcilable requirements: for instance, the last demand that we should make of philosophy (that it be interesting) is the first we make of a poem; the philosophical poet has an elevated and methodical, but forlorn and absurd air as he works away at his flying tank, his sewing-machine that also plays the piano. – Randall Jarrell • Radio, sewing machine, bookends, ironing board and that great big piano lamp – peace, that’s what I like. Butterbean vines planted all along the front where the strings are. – Eudora Welty • Rings and jewels are not gifts, but apologies for gifts. The only gift is a portion of thyself. Thou must bleed for me. Therefore the poet brings his poem; the shepherd, his lamb; the farmer, corn; the miner, a stone; the painter, his picture; the girl, a handkerchief of her own sewing. – Ralph Waldo Emerson • So here I am, sending a two-ounce mouse down into a dungeon with a sewing needle to save a human princess, and I don’t know how in the world he’s going to do it. I have no idea. That was the first time it occurred to me that writing the story was roughly equivalent to Despereaux’s descent into the dungeon. I was tremendously aware of that as I was writing. I thought, “I have to be brave or else I’m not going to be able to tell it.” But it’s the only way that I can write. If I know what’s going to happen, I’m not interested in telling the story. – Kate DiCamillo • Some women don’t care how their quilts look. They piece the squares together any sort of way, but she couldn’t stand careless sewing. She wanted her quilts, and Joy’s, made right. Quilts stay a long time after people are gone from this world, and witness about them for good or bad. She wanted people to see, when she was gone, that she’d never been a shiftless or don’t-care woman. – Julia Peterkin • Talking things over has its place in an organization [but] so-called conferences are being grossly overdone. One executive stops at the desk of another to tell him, perhaps, about the wonderful score he made at golf on Saturday afternoon. This chin-chin immediately becomes a conference, and neither the office boy nor the telephone operator must disturb either gentleman. More idle gossip is indulged in at many business conferences these days than an old wives’ sewing circle would be guilty of. – B. C. Forbes • Tanya Ward Goodman, writing with a big heart, clear eyes, and a light touch, allows us a privileged glimpse into the shabby, enchanted world of traveling carnivals, roadside attractions, and a beloved, eccentric father’s descent into Alzheimers. Just as her dad animated the handcarved, miniature western world of Tinkertown from coat hangers, inner tubes and old sewing machine motors, Tanya Ward Goodman has fashioned her complex and often hilarious memories into a beguiling, wry, and moving work of art. – Michelle Huneven • The chilly December day! two shivering bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio first felt their homemade contraption whittled out of hickory sticks, gummed together with Arnstein’s bicycle cement, stretched with muslin they’d sewn on their sister’s sewing machine in their own backyard on Hawthorn Street in Dayton, Ohio, soar into the air above the dunes and the wide beach at Kitty Hawk. – John Dos Passos • The point is that no matter what you choose to do with your body when you die, it won’t, ultimately, be very appealing. If you are inclined to donate yourself to science, you should not let images of dissection or dismemberment put you off. They are no more or less gruesome, in my opinion, than ordinary decay or the sewing shut of your jaws via your nostrils for a funeral viewing. – Mary Roach • The sewing machine joins what the scissors have cut asunder, plus whatever else comes in its path. – Mason Cooley • There are only three American names that are known in every corner of the globe: Singer sewing machines, Coca Cola and Elizabeth Arden. – Elizabeth Arden • There’s one little room in my house which is filled with all my clutter and bits and pieces. My sewing machine is up there, and all my knitting stuff. Its a place where I can go to relax and unwind. I don’t get to spend a lot of time up there, but at least I know its there. – Julia Roberts • There’s something very intimate about taking someone’s work, turning it over and unpicking it. In the same way people have unique handwriting people have a sewing style. You do start building a fantasy relationship with the person. – Matt Smith • What does this patch-sewing mean you ask? Eating and drinking. The heavy cloak of the body is always getting torn. You patch it with food and other ego-satisfactions. – Rumi • What you do in the present—by painting, preaching, singing, sewing, praying, teaching, building hospitals, digging wells, campaigning for justice, writing poems, caring for the needy, loving your neighbor as yourself—will last into God’s future. These activities are not simply ways of making the present life a little less beastly, a little more bearable, until the day when we leave it behind altogether. They are part of what we may call building for God’s kingdom. – N. T. Wright • When I moved out of my mom’s house at 18 I was almost as sad to leave her sewing machine behind as anything else. – Beth Ditto • When poets go off the boil, they sound like bumble bees; when critics do, they sound like sewing machines. • When you are a kid you have your own language, and unlike French or Spanish or whatever you start learning in fourth grade, this one you are born with, and eventually lose…Kids think with their brains cracked wide open; becoming an adult…is only a slow sewing it shut. – Jodi Picoult • Writing is like anything – baseball playing, piano playing, sewing, hammering nails. The more you work on it, the better you get. But it seems to take a longer time to get better at writing than hammering nails. – Betsy Byars • Writing is very improvisational. It’s like trying to fix a broken sewing machine with safety pins and rubber bands. A lot of tinkering. – Margaret Atwood • You know how people love to glamorize poverty? There’s nothing glamorous about it. But it did make me really creative. Those days, I was literally taking t-shirts in the day and sewing them back together to make dresses for the night. – Beth Ditto • You sweat out the free agent thing in November, then you make the trades in December. Then you struggle to sign the guys left in January, and in February I get down to sewing all the new numbers on the uniforms. – Whitey Herzog
