From homefronthistory on Instagram:
Lipstick impressions to seal envelopes was a custom of increasing popularity from the looks of mail that passed through military post offices, according to The Fort Custer Michigan News.
“Some letters show both sides of the envelope marked in crimson by the dainty lips of soldier sweethearts, while other letters sent by girlfriends or wives reveal messages of love conveyed in small drawings and designs,” said Pvt. Robert L. Downing of the 11th Infantry Mail Detail, who had been making something of a personal study of military letters.
“It’s quite interesting to see the many varieties of love messages. But what about the soldiers? How do their letters look when mailed to ‘the girl back home’ or ‘the little wife?’”
___
I remember reading somewhere that lipstick and V-mail were not compatible.
A Whitman's double-decker? Good choice, Sergeant.

My partner dumped me yesterday, so could you please if you have time or inclination today, write a fluffy or sexy V-day prompt with WinterIron? I need some serotonin.
That's crummy my dude. Anyway Tony's bodysuit is this one.
--
Tony had been freaking the fuck out since January fourteenth. JARVIS had asked him if he wanted to make plans for Valentine’s Day, since they needed to be made well in advance for such a popular holiday. Sure, it would be around four months that he and Bucky had been together, but was that early to do Valentine’s Day? He could admit to himself that he was pretty damn committed, but he knew that he went all-in way too quickly. He just wasn’t sure that Bucky was that committed. He’d said ‘let’s see where this goes’ and while he seemed to have fun, Tony couldn’t tell if that was in a ‘Tony’s comfortable enough around me, hot, and amenable’ way or in a ‘hey, this could be forever’ way.
He split the difference and bought the biggest Whitman’s Sampler he could find (Bucky and Steve had a fondness for the boxes, even if the recipes had changed from 1912), a nice watch, and an upgrade for his bike. Bucky still got finicky going out in crowds sometimes, so he wasn’t going to try and take him out on one of the busiest nights of the year. Chocolate, dinner in, and maybe some wine to end the evening with would be fine for a four-month relationship. Probably.
Tony had also splurged and bought himself something lacy. He and Bucky hadn’t been intimate long, just a couple months, but he thought, if there was a time to surprise him, maybe it would be on Valentine’s Day. If Bucky didn’t like it, he could play it off as holiday fun and then hide all his other lingerie, he figured.
Bucky had said he’d be busy until dinner time, but that was fine. Tony had to work that day, too, and if he was focusing on paperwork, he wasn’t focusing on whether he’d done too much, or too little, or the way the lace was pressing into his skin under his suit. It was fine. Everything was fine.
Except, when he was putting the bags of takeout on the counter to plate up, then he got self-conscious about the way the lace felt over his hips, around his chest. This was still new, he reminded himself, rushing back to his bedroom. Four months! What was he thinking?! He was gonna scare Bucky off. Sure, Bucky was open to new things in the bedroom, but maybe Tony had to ease him into full lingerie sets that cost more than Bucky’s entire wardrobe. Besides, he didn’t even know if Bucky liked Valentine’s Day. He’d had plans today, after all. Maybe he was only coming up for dinner because Tony thought it was special.
Okay. It was going to be fine. He just needed to change out of his suit and lingerie. He could put on one of his band tees and jeans. Bucky said he liked it when Tony looked… comfortable. Was that a compliment, Tony wondered, movements slowing to a stop. Was it a good thing to be called comfortable? It must be, he thought, hands slowly returning to the buttons of his shirt. Bucky always smiled slow and syrupy at him when he said it. He obviously liked it. Right?
…Right?
Tony hesitantly glanced in the mirror. He’d decided on a lace bodysuit, figuring a one-piece would draw attention away from the mess that his chest was. It also helped hide the fact that his abs maybe. Weren’t as defined as he would have liked anymore. He unbuckled his belt and shoved his pants down around his thighs, turning to look at the back. Well, at least his ass still looked nice, he figured, frowning. Maybe he should go with the red silk thong instead of the whole… lace ensemble. He could try again when they were further into their relationship, probably. The thong would be fine. Everything would be fine.
“Tony,” Bucky said, sweeping into the room.
Tony spun toward him, surprised, mouth dropping open in shock. Bucky did not typically barge into his personal quarters. Usually, he sent a message via JARVIS or text. He still hadn’t gotten changed. And now Bucky could see everything, from his open shirt to his pants around his knees.
And Bucky appeared to be looking, if his wide eyes and gaping mouth were anything to go on. He was holding a large bouquet, Tony noticed distantly. Pinks and reds and pops of orange and yellow. He hadn’t gotten Bucky any flowers. Should he have?
“Well,” Bucky said, dropping the bouquet and approaching him with long, sure strides.
“Bucky?” Tony asked nervously, shuffling backward.
“I was going to ask if you wanted to take a romantic bath, but I see you’ve got the romance covered,” Bucky continued, as if he hadn’t heard him.
“You’re coming at me very quickly,” Tony squeaked, nearly tripping as his feet got caught in his pant legs.
Bucky’s face took on the focused expression he got when he was fighting, eyes sharp, every movement carefully calculated—predatory came to Tony’s mind. “And you’re going to be coming very quickly,” he told Tony seriously, and Tony squawked when a moment later, he found himself sailing through the air toward his bed.
Then what Bucky said actually registered, and he only had a moment to screech before Bucky leapt on him like a wild animal.

Assorted FrUK/FACE Fam Headcanons
These are silly little thoughts I've had while drafting Migraines in Margaritaville, so these apply to the world of that AU (modern, human; FrUK parents raising NA bros in Massachusetts, US). Most of these involve food because I seem to think about them when I'm hungry???
• Francis and Arthur practice "one-parent-one-language" with the boys. Matthew took to French much easier than Alfred did, but both brothers managed to pick it up without much of a fuss. In elementary school the twins would use French to cheat on tests (they weren't allowed to sit next to each other after their schemes were discovered).
• Arthur set the grill on fire three times in one summer. Francis clearly doesn't learn from his mistakes and Arthur is too stubborn to let Francis do all of the work when it comes to preparing dinner.
• Follow up on the point above -- Arthur can prep vegetables and throw together food that doesn't require too much measuring or too many steps on the stovetop. He doesn't have the patience for most dishes and doesn't have a sense of what spices go well together/what is enough vs too much. Francis lets him help by chopping up vegetables and Arthur was usually the one to pack the boys' lunches. Sometimes they'd get leftover portions of whatever they had for dinner last night, but Arthur often defaulted to some sort of wrap with deli meat and assorted veggies/crackers for snack.
• Francis gives me similar vibes to those youtube moms who try to make homemade versions of popular American snacks. He may spend the weekdays at work in a kitchen, but on the weekends he's at home, still in the kitchen, trying to make homemade fruit leather and homemade cheese crackers for his sons.
• Arthur's the one more willing to let the boys get snacks from the store or take out. Francis is very much "we have McDonald's at home."
• Both Francis and Arthur would've been so excited to decorate the twins' nursery. They're both artistically inclined, be it in different ways. Arthur made blankets for both of them; Matthew is red and Alfred is blue. Francis paints floral designs on the furniture, in particular purple irises and both red and white roses.
• Because the twins were identical and because babies are kinda just blobs, they definitely accidentally mixed the twins up. The color coding might've come after the swap. They had a crisis about it. Francis "sacre bleu, we just gave two people permanent identity crises" Bonnefoy and Arthur "if we compare them to every picture we have of them we can figure it out" Kirkland. I'm imagining this happening before the twins have enough hair for their cowlicks to really form.
• It's tradition in the Kirkland-Bonnefoy household to have a box of Whitman's chocolates at every family party and Alfred is the reason why. One Christmas each twin got to pick out something special for the party and Alfred picked out the 22 piece Whitman sampler in the yellow box. They're not the best chocolates, but it became a tradition. Thankfully there's two layers in the box so Mattie and Al can have their own messenger boy pieces (the shaped chocolate that's the centerpiece of each layer).
• Neither Arthur or Francis have favor for one twin over the other. They both have their own activities they can do with Alfred and Matthew separately. Francis will cook and bake with Alfred and draw with Matthew. Arthur teaches Matthew to garden and watches old (by his son's standards) movies with Alfred.
• Francis is the parent the boys can come to no questions asked. Arthur isn't apathetic, but Francis is more inclined to give more thoughtful advice for relationships and general fuck-ups. He won't press on why or how something happened, but will help his sons figure out the best way to solve a problem.
• When Alfred and Mattie turned 10, Arthur wanted to teach them the importance of personal finance. He would give the boys $5 each week to spend on snacks at the grocery store (Arthur does the couponing and the shopping for the house). They were allowed to hold onto the money to use for later and could help with the couponing.
• Arthur drags the family out to Salem every Autumn. Sure, they live in Massachusetts and are well aware of how bad tourist season is, but he's fascinated with the city. Alfred initially went because he really liked this one New York style pizza shop in the Witch City Mall (how they got Francis to step foot in there, I don't know), but eventually grew interested in the witchy stuff Salem has to offer. Francis only puts up with it because the city has an art museum and weekly art fairs in the Fall. Matthew dreads their yearly trip. He loathes it. He'd rather tag along with Francis to the museum.
• Until the boys were old enough to start protesting, they had family Halloween costumes. Francis thought it was tacky, but saw the appeal when Arthur got the twins (still babies) all dressed up in lobster costumes.
