Daryle Singletary performing "I Never Go Around Mirrors". I remember this song from the Keith Whitley recording, but it actually goes back to Lefty Frizzell. ________________________ I Never Go Around Mirrors Songwriters: Lefty Frizzell and Sanger “Whitey” Shafer
I can't stand to see A good man go to waste One who never combs his hair Or shaves his face
A man who leans on wine Over love that's told a lie Oh, it tears me up to see A grown man cry
So I never go around mirrors I can't stand to see me Without you by my side No, I never go around mirrors Because I gotta heartache to hide
I can't stand to be Where heartaches hang around It's so easy for the blues to get me down To see a grown man crawl Is more than I can stand And I look into the eyes of half a man
So I don't go around mirrors I can't stand to see Me without you by my side
No, I never go around mirrors Because I gotta heartache to hide And it tears me up to see A grown man cry

Moe Bandy - Honky Tonk Amnesia
One of the best Honkytonk/Barroom songs ever. Co-written by two great songwriters, Whitey Shafer & Doodles Owens, & sung by Moe Bandy in the style of George Jones. I always wondered why George never covered this one. I guess it was because Moe did such a great job mimicking the Possum here, that he out Georged George...

This is a really random pull, but the song "Brambles" by Spell Songs puts me so much in mind of your rancher apocalypse AU. It's a very chill lullabye-like song about 'brambles' climbing over everything and people staying inside while the air 'flutters' and it just fits a skulk infection so so well in my mind. Might not be your jam, but either way just know your au lives in my brain, thank you for sharing it!
Oh, no I really like that! Love those drums coming in like a march but also a rapping against windows. I’ve actually been looking for more music like this but it’s generally out of the way of my usual stuff so I have a hard time finding it.
I have... A lot of music for raau cause of all the different Moods. So my playlist is in chunks. Since raau is more of a setting than character, and I use it for background music, my song selection is much more ambience based.
General inspo songs
Sora to utsuro from vanitas no carte
Saturn (acoustic), ham, and milabo by zutomayo
Peaceful day songs:
Sampo by junya nakano
The process by lakey inspired
Not my type by s. lyre
Rustic days from gatchaman crowds
Road trip songs (mostly ripped right from my roadtrip playlists, imagine most of this stuff more diagetic playing on whatever cds are in the cars they grab):
The long way around, travelling soldier, landslide, & cowboy take me away by the chicks,
When I get where I’m going & mud on the tires by brad paisley
Jose Cuervo, red solo cup, & how do you like me now by toby kieth
Boy named sue by johnny cash
All my exes live in texas by Whitey Shafer
Pai pai II & sweet summer samba from gatchaman crowds
Adventure of a lifetime by coldplay
Shotgun by george ezra
Tense music:
Most of the last of us OST
The bird can’t fly & phenex from gatchaman crowds
Ordinary world by duran duran
Johnny cash’s cover of god’s gonna cut you down
Aaand it doesn’t actually fit anywhere but the entire revengeance OST is in there also.

FAVORITE ROOM OF THE LOUIS HAYWARD (Ida Lupino) is the combination den and library. Here they have their books, records, radio and games to choose from as they laze in front of the oversized fireplace. The Haywards are currently co-starring in Columbia’s “Ladies in Retirement.”

Remembering Bonnie Guitar and Whitey Shafer.
Remembering Bonnie Guitar and Whitey Shafer.
2 country music greats passed away, this weekend.
Bonnie Guitar and Sanger D. “Whitey” Shafer. If you are a big fan of classic country music (what we call real country music), you no doubt are familiar with both. If you’re a more casual follower, perhaps you aren’t familiar with them, but you have very likely been touched by their contributions.
This weekend, we lost both; Bonnie at 95 years old…

Song Review: Willie Nelson - “Night Life” (“Austin City Limits,” Oct. 1, 1979)
Willie Nelson couldn’t decide if he wanted to play jazz or blues.
So when he took a solo turn on “Night Life” during an “Austin City Limits” songwriters’ showcase in 1979, he played both.
Coming from anyone other than Nelson, it would be a train wreck of formless vamping and well-formed, 12-bar licking on nylon strings. But with Nelson, it’s a brilliant brainstorm, one that earns a mid-song ovation from the audience and blown-away shouts and beat-keeping claps from the peers - Floyd Tillman, Hank Cochran, Red Lane, Sonny Throckmorton, Whitey Shafer and Hank Thompson - who surround him.
The video comes from Nelson’s series of weekly releases from his trove of “ACL” appearances. He’s on the road again, but performances such as this make the case for keeping the archival releases coming for as long as there’s aural gold left to mine.
