Have you met sweet Princess? She is truly a gentle heart. 💗 Princess came to us with Albie and Piggie Pie from a Tennessee shelter. She was confiscated due to cruelty. Recently having puppies and of course heartworm positive. She was spayed before she left the shelter. Princess, from what we know, lived a very sad life. Used for breeding. Litter after litter without any care and obviously abused. She has had very sad eyes and a sad heart but thankfully she is warming up and accepting all sorts of love. We are seeing a lot of tail wagging 💗 Her eyes just yearn for love and attention. How could you not love her, better yet how could you use her and hurt her...? This sweetheart will be getting xrays, heartworm staging and start of treatment. She does have a cough but most likely from heartworms. She also has an infection from her spay. She is oozing green puss and we will get that taken care of. Her body has been so used. When she hears balls squaking or the little dogs whine she gets very protective as if they are her puppies. Her body and mind are still dealing with the repercussions of so many litters. We are so happy she is part of the family and she will know all of the love she should have always known! 💗🐶💗 She is truly a Princess! *Warning graphic photos* 14 years of torture. 14 years of neglect. 14 years of abuse. When we were sent Pigs picture we knew we had to pull him right away. He was on death row and was completely out of time. We rushed to find transport and brought him here that same day. We had no idea just how bad his condition was until he came to us. If dogs could talk I’m not sure we could handle his story. Pigs eyes were soft but told a story of being unloved. Starved for attention. The scars all over his body let us know that our sweet Pig was used as a bait dog. His teeth filed down so he couldn’t defend himself. Pig yearned for a family, for a pet, for a simple touch of a hand. Not only was Pigs body in deplorable condition on the outside he was dying on the inside. His heart bursting at the seams with heartworms. Every chamber overloaded making it difficult for him to breathe, filling his chest cavity with fluid because his heart was simply failing. His spleen contained a large, cancerous mass. A mass that had been ignored for so long that the cancer riddled his entire body. His chest full of nodules from metastatic disease. When we saw the look in our vets eyes we knew nothing could be done for our sweet Pig. He was too far gone. Pigs owners surrendered him because “he needed more than they could give”. And they were right, he did need more. Pig was never loved. Pig was never cared for. PIG DESERVED BETTER. We lost our sweet Piggie. His body could no longer fight. He let us know that he was ready. Our happy Pig had given up. We don’t have the words to describe the loss we are feeling. For the days we had him Pig was so unbelievably loved but that will never suffice for the years of pure torture he endured. We know that Pig was met at the rainbow bridge with all the others we lost. Free of cancer, free of heartworms and free of pain. Pig represents many of the pitbulls all over America that truly suffer for a persons gain. So many stories are untold. We will continue to fight for all the “Pigs”in the world. May our sweet Piggie be a wake up call for everyone. Trudy was used breeding her entire life. She was a means for income. We were contacted by her owner and were told things had gotten too difficult, Trudy was going potty in the house. But that wasn't the actual story. And now at 11 years old, she has the beginnings of pyometra. Because Trudy was never spayed and had litter after litter of puppies, her body has developed this infection in her uterus. This is life threatening. Just 6 months ago Trudy had a litter of puppies. For years she had been living in a crate in her own feces, her nails were so long they were curled under into the pads of her feet. She had an eye infection as well as a painful skin infection. The last couple of days, she has not been acting herself. And we knew last night that something was very wrong and she was in pain. She was swollen and extremely uncomfortable. We rushed her to the ER Vet. They gave her an exam as well as xrays. The vets feel like surgery is what is best for Trudy. And we have that planned for this week. So now Trudy will be taking antibiotics, pain meds and will have strict rest. She will be monitored very closely. We had to save this sweet soul and give her the life she has deserved for so long. We are CELEBRATING our very last post of 2019!🎉🐶🎉 We have been on such an incredible journey this year! This path started as Valerie's Dad was passing from cancer and she helped care for him doing home hospice. His senior Doberman Staley was by his side every step of the way. Loving, protecting, and bringing him comfort on the hard days. This dream began in Valerie's heart more than 10 years ago and here we are today. Giving back for what a senior dog did for Valerie's Dad. We bring comfort to the aging, dying, discarded, voiceless, and abandoned seniors. Maybe for a day, a month, or a year. We are so thankful to be able to help seniors like Lionel. #GIVINGTUESDAY allows us to continue our work on helping heal these precious souls. Lionel came to us from the KC area. He is a 12 yr old Shar pei/ Lab mix. He had been extremely neglected and abused. Chained his whole life outside and left for dead. Mr. Lionel is posing with his before and after pictures. We forget how far sometimes they have come. Lionel has chronic ear infections, dermatology visits for his Pseudomonas, which is a severe skin infection. He is given medicated baths three times a week as well. Lionel has cysts on his kidneys and is in early kidney failure. He also had entropion surgery for his eyes. Look at the difference though. This sweet boy loves his life now. Lionel has been to hell and back. His body still suffers the consequences of neglect and abuse but he is slowly healing. We love our dear boy. His heart realized what love could be and he is just the loviest. He loves to play ball and really acts like a puppy. If he does not have a ball then he must be sleeping! He's getting to be a puppy truly for the first time! We call Lionel our million dollar senior. He's the most expensive to care for. Lionel has expensive medications to help with his skin condition without them he would have giant lesions and be in terrible shape. Piggy Pie (Pig) is a 14 yr old Pittie. He arrived to us with his friends from the MAS shelter in Tennessee. He was on death row and running out of time. We knew he was ill but had no idea how truly sick he was. This sweet boy wants love and has life in his eyes but his body is so battered. He winces at touch. We didn't really like "Pig" as his name so we have been calling him Piggy Pie! 💗 During transport he was coughing up mucousy blood. Overnight he was coughing/ vomiting up blood. We had gone into feed him but he had a coughing fit and then fainted. His gums were so pale and being heartworm positive we were very concerned for him. We took him into our vet for a full workup. Piggy Pie had an ultrasound, hw test, bloodwork, and xrays. We have discovered some deeply concerning issues that have now put Piggy Pie on hospice watch. He has deserved so much better than this and we are heartbroken for him. Piggy Pie has a very large mass on his spleen. He also has nodules in the thoracic cavity and has metastatic disease. He is in very serious progression of the disease. Piggy has a large embolism present near his heart which could rupture at any given time. His thoracic cavity is fluid filled, likely due to the cancerous tumor. Coughing significant amounts of frank blood. He has large boney growths on both legs, likely cancerous and highly suspected to be Osteosarcoma. Piggy Pie is also severely anemic, on top of being heartworm positive. His heartworm burden is so extremely large our vet said it is pushing on the chambers of his heart. His prognosis is extremely grave. At this point nothing can be done for Piggy, his condition is beyond repair. What we can do is offer him comfort from the pain and tell him we love him. Our hearts sunk for him today as we held him. We will not have very much time with him and to think that his family gave him up to have a better life. They robbed him of the life he should have had due to the lack of care and abuse. We can not turn back time, or stop the cancer and progression of his failing body, but we can tell him over and over that we love him. Continued in comments... These two are just sweetpeas! Rusty and Penny came to us on Saturday. They have been through a very traumatic experience. Their owner passed away in the home and they were alone until police found them. Their whole lives changed within moments. Considering what they have been through they have the gentlest hearts. They are kind, calm, and sweet babies. Rusty and Penny are a sibling set and have always been together. Where one goes you will always find the other. These two find comfort in each other, soft beds, and gentle pets. We are giving them space to decompress and just take in their new surroundings. They were very loved but it was out of their control what happened. They are also heartworm positive. They will have an appt on Monday and will need lots of medical care. Right now they have been given pain meds and lots of love. Time heals all and we know their hearts will heal. 💗💔💗 Please considering donating for their treatments. Sometimes rescue is so hard and unbelievably heartbreaking. This 12 year old mama dog, yes we said mama dog...was surrendered when pregnant from her owner. Her owner did want her or puppies. Another rescue there stepped in helped her have her puppies and weaned them. This old mama was left with no one wanting her and nowhere to go. When the shelter in Mississippi reached out, we said that we would take her in and love her. The little chi mix is around 11 year old, she had the same home & family her entire life. When her mom died, she was left homeless. This senior does not belong in a shelter or without anywhere to go. And all of this must be so confusing for her. But we have to do something to help them and need your help too! Both will be arriving today all the way from Mississippi. We need to cover their cost of senior care as well as transport costs. Please welcome Pepe Le Pew to the WWSDS fam ❤❤❤ Pepe arrived this afternoon. He was confiscated through a court order surrender with several other dogs. He came from jefferson county animal control before joining us at the sanctuary. He is 12 yrs old and looks like a Shepherd/Aussie mix. He has the cutest ears. Pepe has had a hard life and shows visible signs of physical abuse. He's scared of touch and has not had the life he deserves. We are going to surround him with love and gentle care. We do know that Pepe has Nuclearsclerosis. He has a growth in his mouth and several missing teeth. Pepe is also deaf. He will be getting an ultrasound/ xray and bloodwork at his vet appt on Thursday. We are so glad he was peacefully resting in the car on the way and his intro with all his new friends went well. He came into the kitchen looking for food when he came inside:) We can't imagine all he's been through. We love you Pepe! You will be with us forever! Pepe is 1 of over 20 dogs currently in our care. We have had to say goodbye to another sweet giant. 🌈 Sweet Blaze came from Knoxville, TN. He was a court ordered, surrendered cruelty case. 😭 This poor sweet boy didn't stand a chance against what life had given him. He had never known kindness, comfort, or the love of a family his entire life. The only thing we could do was offer our hearts and comfort to sweet Blaze. Blaze was a beautiful 7 yr old Great Dane. 💗 He had the heart of a strong giant but a body that was broken, abused, and failing. When he came to us he was already diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma. He was very frail, had little strength, and lost ability to move himself. Which is why you will see him laying in most of his pics. He had an ultrasound which showed the cancer had spread already to his spleen, liver and lungs. Adenocarcinoma spreads quickly if not treated and is so deadly. Blaze was suffering greatly. He began to bleed from his nose, was unable to eat, and was suffering. We would have done anything to save him and love on him longer but that was not an option. He fell in love with Molly. She captured his heart and he captured hers. 💗💗 Molly slept on the floor with him every night, she knew his time would not be long and wanted to make sure he was not alone. We are thankful for all the love that is given here. Molly did what Blaze needed. We will miss him greatly but feel privileged to have been able to love him. We will continue loving the broken, damaged, and abandoned. For that is what we are called to do. Please donate in Blaze's memory to our 🌈Rainbow🌈fund. We want to welcome our new seniors, Aro and Lizzy!!! They were brought in as a 3rd party surrender to the Coulee Humane Society in Wisconsin. A very kind transporter brought them 8 hours to our sanctuary. They did wonderful on the car ride here. Aro (Dobie) and Lizzy (Dane & St Bernard) are exploring and getting to know their new home. We do know that Aro has seizures and is going to require special care and medications. Our newbies will be going to the vet to have thorough examination that will include ultrasound, xrays and a blood panel. Please consider helping Aro and Lizzy by making a donation toward their care. For $5 Friday's we want to introduce you to our newest addition Shadow! Shadow and another dog were abandoned when their owner moved and didn't take them. A very kind neighbor continued to feed the dogs. She did everything she possibly could to find them rescue but got very sick herself and could no longer care for the dogs. Unfortunately the other dog passed away. Shadow found himself all alone. Luckily the kind neighbor reached out to Whispering Willows for rescue. A group of transporters helped Shadow travel from Arkansas to his now foster home in Missouri. Shadow it has slowly been coming out of the shell and at first was a little hesitant when people reached out to touch him. It doesn't seem like he had a very good life and most likely lived outside tied up. We do know that Shadow probably never had any vet care and we have found out that he is heartworm positive and has very scarred lungs. We are giving Shadow a lot of love and want him to know he'll never be alone again. Recently Shadow went to the vet for a checkup, got all vaccinations, xray, ultrasound, hw test, and bloodwork. Little Harold was suffering so badly. We decided it was only fair to set him free of his pain. Harold came to us when his owners could no longer take care of him. Unfortunately, when he arrived he was already in such poor condition that there was nothing that could be done. His teeth were so infected and in poor shape it truly affected the condition of his heart. Teeth are truly the gateway to your pets health. Harold's heart was so enlarged that it was filling the entire space in his chest cavity and pushing on his trachea making it so very difficult to breathe. Harold (aka Pugsly) was just a sweet, sweet boy. He was deaf and blind but that didn't stop him from enjoying his food or being a love bug. Harold's dementia was so bad already that he was really out of sorts. He had trouble settling and being able to sleep. We were so thankful that we were able to help him even if it wasn't for that long. He ended in peace and love exactly as it should have been.
