I really wish the show would’ve explored Chase’s knack for writing/filmmaking as a whole more. I think it would’ve been a super compelling reason for him to go to England instead of him being written off to essentially swap places with Zoey. But then idk we might’ve never gotten that iconic webcam scene so 👀
Congrats! You have successfully identified a half-formed idea that's been sitting in my drafts for a whole year.
I kind of have mixed thoughts on Chase as a writer. I include it in my fics but mostly as a nod to fandom (I loved two fics early on that had him as like, the insomniac coffee-as-black-as-my-soul writer) because I dislike The Play as an episode and Chase and Michael's weird little iCarly-precursor never really worked for me. So Lola took over the drama club representation and then Chase kind of becomes too busy being the emotional core of the show to be pigeon-holed into a singular interest or quirk like her or Quinn (plus I'd argue that Sean's own interest in music and inability to be parted with a guitar got incorporated over something like writing because Dan tends to do that with cast members, and I think he was more comfortable writing something that could parallel his own life's interest from a female perspective).
I think I personally associate the actual toon with Michael because it was more his style of humour, but I also tend to characterise Michael as being very interested in a lot of things (comedy, singing, flute-playing) that he's been told are impractical, so he's always trying to juggle them with more traditional career paths. Had the show kept more of the Pepperdine recruitment ad vibe like S1-2 we might have gotten more insight into Chase and Michael's career aspirations, but it's also pretty realistic for teenagers not to have a clear idea. Plus, I much prefer the teen drama we got in the good half of S3 (not S4, it can jump in a lake).
#my preference is for chase to never go to england but i do hc that he liked england#while zoey resents it#so i can see him moving there for work or at least considering it#thank you for the ask#and hope you're well

Okay so I’m a big a fan of Pan/Bi!Pim as anyone else and I ain’t denying that he could be Mspec… BUT what if I told you that his fantasy of settling down with a woman was a way of heavily suppressing what, or rather, who he really wants in life? Because like we only saw Pim dreaming about having a wife twice in this show and as it continues, he doesn’t particularly seem to be as motivated in finding a girl in particular as he is getting closer and cuddlier with Charlie. What if he really wants to settle down and start a family with another man but is too afraid to come out and worries what his friends think because they have girlfriends (although I’m pretty sure Alan’s situation was a one-time blind date because we never see her again). Pim doesn’t like interacting with Zoey out of envious resent, like in the S2 finale he could have been petty enough to persuade Zoey in playing on the other side to have Charlie (plus Rotten) all to himself, either that or Zoey got sick of Charlie’s shit and is now in a polycule with Glep and Marge just to spite him.
On a side note, while Charlie is his big-fish-to-fry, Pim also seems to be a wee bit more affectionate towards men then women, like he gave a kiss to Desmond and Century Egg but never to any women on the show.

ok chat time for me to post a WORSE take. i think that, while mal did NOT help because come on thats MAL we are talking about, mike landed himself in juvie after he fought some older kids trying to jump another kid but he does not remember that (especially since getting sent to juvie was so bad for him that mal had to take over as the system host for the time period) and just assumes it was mal because mal is supposed to be the 'troublemaker'.
in general i like to think that mal and mike resent each other for the traits they repress in themselves. but thats just me and my love for narrative foils and whats better for that than two persecutory alters that have different reasons for what they do
~ 🌙
Ooh no this isn’t a bad take at all it’s a really cool one!!!! I don’t personally have a headcanon for why they got sent to juvie or even who ‘caused’ it, I keep changing my mind on it. Sometimes I wanna go genuine and angsty with it, but also I joked with an IRL friend once that Mal got them sent to juvie for something stupid like vandalism. I also cannot for the LIFE of me remember where I saw this headcanon this is NOT mine, but someone else suggested that Duncan and Mal actually met in some sort of inpatient psychiatric facility and are both lying about it because juvie sounds “better” to them
I love love love Mike and Mal as parallels but also I think they’re such obvious parallels and I like finding parallels that are less obvious. Like how Zoey initially had the urge to sacrifice Cameron to win the million in ROTI (so many people forget this!!!!!) but fought against that urge because Cameron was her friend, vs. Mal who has no connection to Cameron and in general things friendships and even alliances are only points of weakness and actually DOES sacrifice Cameron one season later. Is that a parallel? Idk. I’m not saying friendship could’ve saved Mal but I’m fascinated by the fucked-up way Mal seems to view interpersonal relationships. And also fascinated by the fact Zoey would feel the urge to sacrifice her friend to a man-eating plant. what was I talking about again

Oh can you tell me about general mcnamara in this fic? Whats he up to
Also i regret reading the sam one NO SHES NOT DEAD SHES IN CLIVESDALE SHES FINE SHES-
i can absolutely tell you about john!! also, do you want me to warn for zoey mentions? i can like. add a tag so youre at least prepared for it or can skip it? :(
john, john, john. what a guy, huh?
john was.. abandoned, as far as he knows. he knows where wilbur went, but holly? she just.. disappeared on him. he carries a lot of resentment for her because of this.
peip is his pride and joy, now. he threw himself into researching the black and white after wilburs.. disappearance, and he's never come back out from it. he barely has a life that doesn't connect back to peip somehow. even xander points back to it with his own b&w research.
he's also.. overly protective of his team. he says its because they don't listen. he knows its because he's lose his mind if he watched another person (another friend) go into a portal and never come back out. nobody but him has gone into the black since holly's disappearance.
(hatchetfield is calling his name. he doesn't know why. theres a portal there, that he definitely hadn't helped open.)
john is really struggling. he's balancing all if peip, his own trauma, and now hatchetfield completely on his own. he can only hope that uncle wiley leaves him be while he figures out what to do about this brand new magical hotspot.

30. Revealed, by PC and Kristin Cast
Owned: No, library Page count: 306 My summary: Neferet has been exposed. Disgraced, abandoned even by Darkness, she flies to safety under a tree to regroup and rethink. Meanwhile, Zoey and her friends have problems of their own. After the shocking death of their friend Erin, splinters have formed - can Zoey and her friends accept more red fledgelings coming to the Light? And Aurox is becoming more like Heath, causing Stark's possessiveness to go into overdrive. Zoey's got a lot on her plate… My rating: 1/5 My commentary:
So! Close! To! The! End! The last book is on its way to the library, but it's coming from outside my county so it's probably gonna take a while. Which means both I and you will have a break from it for a bit, thankfully. The penultimate book in the House of Night series. It's all coming to a dramatic climax, you guys! By which I mean more teenage angst, more circling around the same five plot points, and more dumb bullshit drama for no reason. As is the trademark of this series. So, without any further ado, let's get into…all of that.
First off, this book comes with a helping of Neferet's backstory. And it's stupid as hell! See, apparently Neferet was abused by her father as a child before being Marked. This is all kind of glossed over in a few paragraphs, no need to focus on it. Because the real pain for her came from when her cat died. She prayed to Nyx to save the cat, and Nyx gave her the ability to soothe pain…but the cat still died. And that was Neferet's start of darkness. Because God didn't save her cat. She then goes on to be a slutty slut slutterson, getting with different creepy guys for no particular reason other than to feel power. One of whom is a vamp Warrior who, like, is a masochist - literally, sexually - and that's both his whole characterisation and a bad thing for some reason? Because he's into being hurt? And then she drives one of her would-be suitors to off himself, because he annoyed her? For a subplot that should exist to make Neferet less one-dimensional, it's really not succeeding. She's just an oversexualised villain, at the end of the day. And seriously, girl, why was the cat the breaking point here?
Zoey's anger issues are a large part of the plot here, especially the later plot, but as usual they are not really handled well at all. The idea is that Zoey is getting angrier and more influenced by Old Magjyk (ugh) and will eventually end up doing something bad that she can't come back from. Aphrodite sees this in a vision and, despite her entire characterisation being 'blunt bitch mean girl who is reluctantly on the side of Good', doesn't say anything about it and instead recruits Shaylin to stalk her for a bit and spy on her magical aura in both an underhanded and unsubtle way which just makes the situation worse. Once again, characters picking up the idiot ball for drama. And the explosion comes with Zoey accidentally using her Seer Stone to kill two homeless guys in a park, which…one, I feel like if it's accidental it kind of negates the idea of it being a facet of Zoey's character if it was an unintended magical side-effect. Two, we've literally had this plot point before when Zoey smashed a car into some guys, and she didn't face any real consequences then? And three, it comes pretty much out of nowhere - there is a build with Zoey becoming more pissed off with everything around her, but it's not that unreasonable a reaction to her environment and the things that are happening to her. Once again, a minor character trait is introduced as a massive flaw just to give the characters some extra drama.
One big thing that Zoey et al keeps going on about with Thanatos is that 'We're not bickering kids!' - she wants herself and her friends to be taken seriously as adults and as sensible people, and resents being infantilised. The problem is that Zoey and her friends are just acting like bickering children constantly. They care more about their interpersonal issues than anything more important. They bitch and moan at each other constantly. They deal with everything like a stereotypical teenager from a mean girl Disney Channel movie. It's so obviously meant to be a 'don't underestimate teens!' style power fantasy, but the kids aren't being smart about anything they do. That kind of power fantasy only works if the teens do have a point and are being talked down to by the adults in their lives! Not if the adults are being pretty reasonable and the teens are making everything worse!
Stark's possessiveness rears its head here - by which I mean, shows up again because we gotta have a love triangle. Man, one of the very few things I was going to give to this series was that it seemed to have dropped the love triangle bullshit in the later books but nope, here it is again, this time between Stark and Aurox. Which is dumb for several reasons, mostly that Zoey doesn't consciously want to be with Aurox, she's just got the spiritual hots for him because he's Heath and soulmates are a thing apparently. And Stark is pissed, despite the fact that Zoey is trying to talk to him about it and trying to open communication about it and trying to work through it, and Stark is just doing the caveman NO ME ANNOYED thing, and it's exactly the goddamn same as every fucking time that a love triangle has shown up in this series. Exactly the same! It wasn't even interesting the first time!
And finally - hey, remember how there's been this whole thing about Erin going over to the bad guys for no real reason and none of her so-called friends seem to care about her? Yeah, so she dies at the start of this one. Just, boom! Neferet ghosts through her and she dies. And the gang get over it pretty damn easy. Shaunee is the only one who actually seems to give a fuck. Meanwhile, her replacement is coming in with the form of red fledgeling Nicole, who wants to come over to the good guys also for no stated reason. And she kisses Shaylin, I guess? Just as I was about to criticise the series for not realising lesbians are real. Still, this is a penultimate-book romance between two incredibly minor characters - if you were going to add lesbians, why not have Stevie Rae and Aphrodite be a thing around when they were Imprinted, or have like Erin and Shaunee get together or something? Not these two girls who got introduced very last-minute who I don't care about and have no connection to.
Next, something thankfully different - a trip to the North Pole.

Tell us about your OCs please 🥺? Who was last on your mind?
omfg ive been thinking about zoey and antares and. the other two i dont have a name for and how much i like their dynamic... theyre all such losers and deadbeats and the only thing driving them forward is the ties they have to each other but they dont like each other <3
zoey is investigating the death of her twin brother after years of being no contact with her family because she feels its the only way to make up for essentially abandoning him and feeling as if his death was her fault (no matter if this is true or not) and she cannot do this without the aid of the other three. while she resents the position she is being forced into by them
antares (i need to rename them tbhhhh) was zoeys brothers guardian angel- his death happening under their watch got them kicked out of heaven. theyve deluded themselves into thinking that, since they were twins, zoey taking his place will regain their favour and restore their place in the heavens
the... other guy (im so bad with names i never got to these two okay) has the extremely unlucky trait of attracting the supernatural but being terrified of anything and everything to do with it. he was a witness to some extent to what happened to zoeys brother- he was there, and saw who was there when it happened, but didnt witness what actually happened. zoey will NOT let him alone until she knows what happened, and figures his ability to attract the supernatural will be their best bet in finding out. he also believes antares is the only one who can protect him and refuses to leave their side
the demon is... well a demon of some sort. idk. it was seen by the other guy at the time of zoeys brothers death and claims to know what happened, but refuses to tell the others. antares basically has it captive and they are offering its freedom (from the earth, not from their captivity) in exchange for it leading the others to important clues and scenes wrt his death. i havent really hammered out [any] of the details to do with that so that all sounds vague sorry but the character dynamics + ties r something i am relatively sure of atp

Still in the middle of D3 so no spoilers please!
Edit: I've finished D3, spoilers okay now lol
--
I dont usually make up family headcanons with same-age characters (it leaves myself more room for shipping) but for some reason I came up with three of them here. Okay I just realized the first one theyre not same age but, uh, anyway!
Ryoma is Hiyoko's uncle. I dont have much of an explanation for this. At first I thought it would be a funny idea if Ryoma was Hiyoko's dad but then I realized that Hiyoko's dad goes to all her dance recitals while Ryoma's been in jail for a while, so that makes it kind of impossible. Just a silly idea.
Kazuichi is Kaito's younger cousin (idk what the timeline is for D3 compared to the other games yet, and I know often times this class is headcanoned as younger than the D2 class, but this is all in an au anyway). They're same-voice actor cousins. Kaito gave Kazuichi the idea to build a rocket engine, maybe they watched alien movies together when they were little. Kaito hasn't seen Kazuichi since she was still in her booknerd phase, so Kaito would laugh a lot if you told him that his nervous, fidgety cousin went through a "scary punk phase." Have an idea for a short fanfic where he calls and says he's coming to visit her again and she's mid-transition at this point and unsure about coming out to him - I think he'd be cool with it. He'd possibly confuse trans with drag at first but he would be supportive and say that he's glad to see Kazuichi gain some confidence and self-esteem "even if you're still a bit fidgety" (Kaito that's not from being afraid that's just the adhd). Also Kaito and Zoey get along alright.
Nagito is Kokichi's older brother. (potential ableism trigger warning, also a warning for that sibling dynamic where one kid is neglected for the sick/disabled kid). There's angst potential as well as funny potential. This is more subject to change since there's a lot I still dont know about Kokichi, but from what I can tell he's a manipulative liar always making scenes to get attention and even though some of the fandom says he is "a normal person faking mental illness," I dont buy it. Maybe he's faking something, but he definitely has something too. Not sure if this is a controversial opinion, but I believe that people who fake mental illnesses (to this degree at least) are not neurotypical, it's a cry for help and they do need something, so they shouldn't be brushed off as just "ableist assholes" because there is something going on, though on the flip side it is not the job of other mentally ill people to coddle their feelings when that person is being ableist.
I think Kokichi also went through some trauma, like something happened with his family that made him have to attend court sessions (he said in the first trial that he had to go to trials all the time a long time ago "for his crimes as an Ultimate Supreme Leader" but I think that's Kokichi-talk for "he was a little kid and had to sit in trials for some family drama and the adults constantly blamed him for problems that weren't his fault," which is why he plays up this sort of misbehaving bad kid role). Anyway, my ansty hcs is that Kokichi was neglected because his parents focused on Nagito's illnesses, and that's part of why he acts up to get attention. He has some resentment for that but blames his parents more than Nagito and he and Nagito have the type of sibling relationship where they're sometimes on good terms and sometimes can't stand each other. They've thrown some shade at each other but Kokichi really knows how to piss off Nagito and is not afraid to bring up "hope" to mess with his head (though if anyone else did this they would suffer Kokichi's wrath, as far as he's concerned he's the only one allowed to pick on Nagito). Nagito thinks he goes easy on Kokichi when they fight but he can be petty and sassy back and has a lot of embarrassing dirt on Kokichi. They're the kind of brothers that will pester and argue with each other but they'll bury the dead body for the other no questions asked. And Lord help you if they're in the same courtroom, they could find the dumbest little things to bicker with each other about and filibuster the case, but also Nagito will totally back up Kokichi's lies and vise-versa. Whatever creates bigger hell at the moment for the player. It was a mercy they weren't in the same game.
Anyway, since I haven't finished the game yet there's probably-definitely stuff I dont know about these characters but I got excited to share this with you.

She is made up of depths even the ocean couldn’t fathom.
Resident Estelle St. Claire came to the neighborhood of Country Club about three months. She’s currently 29 years old and was born in Denver, Colorado. She makes a living by working as a news reporter at KDVR. Her neighbor’s often compare her to Zoey Deutch, but she doesn’t see it.
ABOUT THEM.
Estelle was born on April 27, making her a Taurus, according to the chart.
She’s been described as empathetic, determined, and selfless. She’s also been noted to be resentful, impatient, and overprotective.
Her dream growing up has always been to become a news broadcaster.
Estelle’s parents separated during her childhood, and her mother remarried within a year, relocating to Europe with her new husband. As a result, Estelle spent a significant portion of her childhood exploring the European countryside.
Estelle’s father was the influential figure behind a chain of marijuana dispensaries that span across Colorado and neighboring states. After his recent death, Estelle and her brother were named his beneficiaries. She inherited both his home and half his company.
Two of their favorite ways to relax are by snuggling up with a good book and a glass of wine or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen - especially with her daughter, Vera.
Two bad habits she has are tapping her fingers when she is impatient and laughing during uncomfortable situations.
She can be found on all social media by the handle @sugarplum
A RUMOR FLOATING AROUND ABOUT THEM IS….
Estelle’s father was a prominent businessman, known for his chain of dispensaries that operated legally across Colorado and the surrounding states. However, beneath the surface of his respectable image, there were rumors of his involvement with dubious groups and his participation in moving illicit goods, using his stores as a front. With Estelle now holding half-ownership of the company, she is under immense pressure to navigate these murky waters. There are growing whispers suggesting she has stepped into her father’s controversial dealings, with allegations that she is aiding the cartel in drug sales.
THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.
Truth be told, Estelle’s father was indeed involved with the cartel. He had a lucrative business arrangement that benefited both parties, and despite rampant rumors, his charm and influence kept authorities at bay. Estelle, however, wants nothing to do with these illicit dealings. In an effort to distance herself, she tried to sell the company, but her brother’s disappearance and his ownership of half the shares made the sale impossible. Now, Estelle is left to navigate the precarious situation, striving to protect herself and her family while avoiding further entanglement with the cartel.

Okay so @hetaverseshit reblogged with me me me so I am gonna ramble out some thoughts but feel free to ask specifics and I will answer them tomorrow when I get some sleep. (Inspirations are some of my favorite alien/space media Mass Effect, Starbound, Fifth Element, Firefly and Star Trek)
I am going to get into races and plot points of some main characters (There will have to be a part 2)
Aphmau - She is an alien that was reanimated from a long dead species. Due to the reanimation process she has no memories but will soon gain more where she finds out she was some form of general. She is a rather humanoid alien but uncanny. Her markings from MCD are now eyes, her hair is more like long fur, her tan skin is almost reflective like that of a snake. Only her human eyes blink but you can't get over the feeling of being watched when near her.
Garroth - He is a straight up human, though heavily genetically modified by his father to make the perfect soldier and weapon. His dad is a wealthy buissness man who found money in fueling the publics fear of aliens. He has super soldiers and weapon bases throughout the star system. Garroth ran away leaving behind his brothers to find a way to stop his father. He managed to land on a job on a ship and made his way to becoming First Mate until his ship landed on a port and they were tasked to transport a package to one of his dads labs. The package came but his Captain never returned, and that is when he found Aphmau the stowaway and soon to be fake Captain of the S.S. Phoenix Drop
Laurance - He is a full blooded alien with humanoid features but is insectoid. He has a rather honey bee esc appearance with large solid black eyes that shine an iridescent green, fluffy hair that goes from a dirty blonde to a red-orange due to dye from the plants at home, he has 6 limbs, two pairs on arms that go from a golden peach skin tone to black with slender human like hands and legs that have a backwards knees but instead of feet, two little prongs. He comes from a planet full of mega flora and he was assigned to be an explorer but during his travels he got trapped in THE RED, a sort of destructive hive mind that has recently been awakened and infesting planets and taking over the more capable warriors to expand. Laurance was only in the early stages or the infestation and control before he was saved by the S.S. Phoenix Drop and healed by Zoey. In order to repay his self proclaimed debt, he now works as a navigator and gunner. Think fluffly space cowboy vibes.
Zoey - She is also from another mega flora planet but instead of being insectoid, she is more of a form of living plant. With her being rather similar to that of a mint plant (unkillable), she is the ships current practicioner of medicine, coming from a planet with the major export of medicinal herbs. She was once a skilled warrior from her planet but after serving as a combat medic when her planet was at war against an old version of THE RED centuries ago, she refused to fight any longer, instead choosing pacifism. She was recently hired onto the S.S. Phoenix Drop by the former Captain after their old medic, Donna, left to marry the K9-esc alien merchant Logan
Katelyn - She is a half human half alien hybrid, with her father being human and her mother coming from a race of amazonian-esc warriors. She is incredibly skilled and was a part of the galactic military before being recruited into the more private military force by Garte. While presenting rather human, she is very large in stature with almost lion esc features. She has an incredibly prominent nose and dark blue-black skin that is almost moon-like in a way and a mane of blue hair that she keeps neat. She tries to make herself as human as possible to fit in and due to resentment of her mother leaving. She joins the S.S. Phoenix Drop when on a mission by Zane to reposses the item only to get trapped in the scheme of the millenia. Her and Garroth recognize eachother but refuse to say anything.
Please remind me to make a part 2 tomorrow (Like, 10 am American Central Time)
Would anyone be interested in hearing about a SciFi MCD AU? Like I have nothing plotted out but if you ask questions I sure as hell will give you an answer.

94. Untamed, by PC and Kristin Cast
Owned: No, library Page count: 411 My summary: Zoey Redbird is in a nightmare. Her friends have deserted her, the three boyfriends she had yesterday have been reduced down to none, and her undead dead best friend is now a real, bloodsucking vampire. Oh, and her best frenemy Aphrodite is almost nice now, which is another flavour of confusing. But Zoey has no time to regroup. There’s a war on the horizon. And an ancient evil is set to rise... My rating: 0/5 My commentary:
Well, I've procrastinated on this series long enough. Time to force myself back through another House of Night book! This series is, and continues to be, completely awful. Who's surprised? The series has meandered around for a while, but now we seem to be getting something approaching an actual plot, which has its ups and downs. On the one hand, things are actually happening! On the other hand, the things that are happening are bugfuck stupid and I'd rather be reading near-literally anything else right now. Why am I still forcing myself through these books? One part sunk costs fallacy to one part stubbornness. I'm determined not to let these books break me. So, without further ado..we dive once more into this pile of shit.
First, let's talk Zoey. Who, once again, is getting everything handed to her on a silver plate. Her instincts are always right, she can call all five elements to her, and Nyx tells her explicitly that she's special and beloved and can always trust her gut. Good people like her, bad people hate her. There's no tension, because she doesn't need to struggle for anything! She starts the book sans her friends, boyfriends, and credibility. Does she have to fight to regain all that she had despite all parties having very valid reasons to be pissed at her? Does she fuck! She tells her friends why she didn't mention the whole 'Stevie Rae is alive' thing to them, and they just...accept it and her back into the fold without an ounce of resentment. She spends the whole first act moping that her friends don't like her any more, then the second they forgive her and invite her to hang with them that night, she turns them down! They return to being one-note auxiliary characters who blindly follow Zoey.
Speaking of, let's talk about them for a second. They're Mean Girls cold to Zoey at the start, then blindly accept her back after being told 'actually you were wrong to shun me, nyeh'. Shawnee and the other one are still basically nonentities. Damien's only character trait is being gay (and liking 'long words', most of which are normal words that Cast appears to not think teens use?). Jack, Damien's boyfriend, also is just gay, in the sense that he's a sensitive, mincing stereotype. Every time he had dialogue I just wanted to vomit. (Oh, and it's notable for all the hamfisted 'being gay is okay!' messaging, we never really see Jack and Damien being romantic with each other - if we weren't told they were dating it would be impossible to tell.) And then there's the two vaguely interesting ones, Aphrodite and Stevie Rae. We're told repeatedly that Stevie Rae is different now, that her being leader of the red fledgelings has changed her somehow. All I'll say is that it would have been nice to see this change, rather than just be told about it. Defrosting ice queen Aphrodite is just as one-note as the other characters - the narrative still treats her as evil for *checks notes* being sexually active, but the real thing with her in this one is that she's developed a poor-little-rich-girl narrative. Boo hoo, her parents don't love her and she has more money than sense. That's not character depth, that's backstory detail. Ugh.
Part of the forward plot of this one involves a new kid to the House of Night - Stark. Like most of Zoe's friends, he's got an exceptional gift. In his case, he can never miss when firing his bow, even when his target is metaphorical. He won an archery contest when he was focusing on hitting the bullseye of his target to win, but the arrow flew to his opponent's heart, killing him. The opponent was also his mentor, meaning that Stark went into an angst spiral. See, he's a tortured hot boy. And he swore off archery, but feels physical pain when he doesn't practice. So brooding! So deep! Zoey, of course, falls for him in about 0.3 seconds, which means that when he dies after 0.5 seconds, she's broken up. Despite not even knowing him a full day, she keeps claiming they had a special connection and were so close and she was in love with him. Girl, you knew him for five minutes! This is the point I keep making about these books and pacing - everything happens so damn fast. There's no room for any character arc to happen at a realistic pace, the whole book series so far has taken place over the course of a couple of months. It should have been at least a year, given how much has happened. But no, the narrative needs them to be So In Love, so they are. Bluh.
Aaaaaand finally, the cherry on top of this shit cake - racism! Zoey has Cherokee heritage, and her grandmother is Cherokee. Mostly this has been used to make Zoey extra Special to this point. She uses smudging in her rites, and part of her special connection to Nyx seems to be that Nyx is also a Cherokee mother goddess. I don't know anything about Cherokee culture and traditions, but at the same time I'm willing to bet that this is not it. I don't think the Cherokee have a mother goddess as the supreme being? That seems more like a neo-Pagan thing, though I could be wrong. When Zoey's grandmother is badly hurt, she ends up in a Catholic hospital; she wants a Medicine Man with her, but the hospital won't allow it, so Zoey sends in a nun she'd befriended earlier. It's interesting that the second that the story could focus heavily on Cherokee belief, it retreats back into Christianity. PC Cast is a white woman, by the way, as far as I can tell.
And then...there's a prophecy that an evil spirit called Kalona will reappear, and is heralded by creatures called the Raven Mockers. The Raven Mockers are a real thing from Cherokee mythology; they're called Kalona Ayeliski, which is presumably where Cast got the name Kalona from. At least according to what I can find online, real Raven Mockers prey on the dying (you know, like ravens eating corpses) and can only be driven off by a medicine man. Here, Zoey can do it through Nyx's power, and the Raven Mockers act more like banshees than anything else. Oh, and Kalona himself? Described as being a 'fallen angel' who raped women and was defeated by a maiden made of earth, who trapped him underground after luring him in for sex. I doubt this is legitimate. Because the idea of fallen angels is, in fact, a Christian one. It seems that Cast just wants to take the trappings of Cherokee identity, but not to engage with actual Cherokee people or culture, just using it to say 'well Native Americans are magic and mystical, therefore I can just make up whatever I want'. Much like another terrible vampire romance of the era. I'm gonna carry on with this series to the bitter end, though, just watch me. Buuuuut I'm gonna read some good stuff first.
Next up, the highs and lows (get it?) of being an air ambulance doctor.

Who I Am
hey lovelies! so this is part 2 to my past prompt during poppy weekend a couple weeks ago. i'm not completely sure if this'll be a series but i got really excited to write some more poppy content HAHAHAHA so here we go! a lot of the content does involve a lot of greek mythology and it's lore. i'm sort of a nerd for that kind of stuff so i know some of it. Aphrodite : Goddess of Beauty and caused the Trojan War because of stealing Helen of Troy away for another man to marry Artemis : Goddess of the Hunt and is described as not being interested in relationships and would much rather tend to hunting Eros : Son of Aphrodite and God of Love. He's also known in pop culture as Cupid poppy min sinclair (jeon somi faceclaim) x goddess!mc (bea hughes) disclaimer/s : insults and a lot of cursing, in very queen b fashion
Two whole weeks passed since a blonde stranger washed up from the middle of the ocean only to be saved by the island’s local hero, Bea Hughes. A woman who almost two years ago was in the exact same place and situation.
While you wanted to believe it was a happy coincidence, you couldn't shake the idea that it felt almost deliberate. So despite all of the pleading and the bribes from both Zoey and Kingsley, you refused to see Poppy.
You could sense that it would only lead to disaster.
Avoiding her was harder than expected though. Other than it being a small island, she was always getting herself into trouble. Snapping at the local vendors and bullying the other women in the village among other things. Plus the fact that when she did see you, she wore a shit-eating smirk, knowing that she had a strong effect on you.
And there may have been times when you caught her in the middle of the street and you may have lost control once...or twice...or almost every single time you've run into each other. And it wasn't long until you got caught by an unsuspecting Zoey walking into your bedroom with the intent of asking you for her clothes.
"I don't think I've ever seen you around with anyone, why her of all people, Bea?" Zoey asked amused while you ran a hand through your hair, trying to get them to fall back into place naturally. Suddenly, Poppy slung in front of you to fix your hair instead.
Your friend quirked an amused brow at the lovestruck look that sat over your features as you stared at the blonde. "I'm heading off, corn husker." She said, her tone sweet. The only time Zoey'd ever heard it so delicate making her eyes go wide.
You grinned teasingly before pulling her into you, forcing her lips onto yours. Pulling her lip back roughly before you stared into her blown out eyes, grin still on your face. "Keep out of trouble, Pop." With a small slap on her ass, she squeaked before strutting away, hips swaying just for you.
While you were entrapped by the blonde walking away, you felt a sharp smack on the back of your head. "Um ow, Zoey!" You groaned softly before rubbing the back of your head to which she rolled her eyes. "I'm sure it barely hurt. And what was that with Psyche wannabe?"
You chuckled softly before entering the room to hand Zoey her clothes when she turned you to face her. Her face stern but you still couldn't help but chuckle softly, she was just being dramatic.
"As your best friend AND guide, I have to remind you that this is likely your mother and her influence. Wouldn't be the first time in history she'd do something like this." You paused, breath caught in your lungs. You stared at your friend before looking out to the sky. Resentment and sadness filling your chest at the thought of her.
Zoey heard you release a soft sigh before she offered you a small smile. "I'm sorry, Bea. But you know how it works." With a reassuring squeeze, Zoey was out of your room, clothes forgotten. You stared thoughtfully at your hands, thinking of the way it felt when Poppy pulled you close. Memories of the past few weeks flooding your senses.
You knew that she was a less than ideal person, but there was something about the mischievous glint in her eyes, the sharpness of her words, and the softness she saved just for you. Your body warmed at the thought of her. The moment you felt yourself smile despite yourself, you shook your head violently.
Again, your eyes raised to the skies before rage overtook your body and you jolted up. You quickly grabbed your bow and arrow, eyes still glued to the sky, intentions clear. "Game on, mother." You taunted before rushing out the door.
In the middle of town, Poppy was still strolling under the moonlight. A giddy smile over her lips. Of course you two were caught but honestly she didn't mind, she was still tingling from your last meeting. While she still thought it was absurd to feel so much for you in the span of fourteen days, she still couldn't help it. You challenged her so fiercely, even when you don't want to.
It all felt so pure and real to Poppy. And it made the rage that sat in the bottom of her stomach subdue a little.
While she swam in the idea of your smile in her head, thinking of the way your skin glowed under the sun. A dreamy sigh fell from her lips when her eye caught your familiar figure running through the abandoned streets of the town and into the woods. Poppy raised a brow, curious about where exactly you were going.
Though was against Poppy's better judgement, but she couldn't help but be curious, more concerned but she'd never admit it to your face.
It was dark and she could barely chase after you without making a sound. Nonetheless though, she was able to stay a distance away from you without catching your attention.
The blonde watched you, eyes attentively moving from side to side. Like you were looking for something. Then, a flash of white caught the young woman's eye. It caught your attention as well, then you closed one of her eyes, you moved her aim to the sudden intruder. The bow and arrow in your hands new to Poppy, her brown eyes grew wide. Loosing the arrow just atop a pure white swan's head. However, it didn't flinch at the attack.
The blonde stared back in surprise. It was no secret that you were hiding something but if what she'd seen would add up, then that meant that...
"You don't have to hide, mother. No one's around." You said, lowering the bow and arrow you had in your hands. The blonde's brown eyes blew open as she watched you stare at the swan transforming into a beautiful woman so nonchalantly.
The woman whipped her blonde hair back, she had mature features, an hourglass figure and she was one of the most beautiful women that Poppy had ever seen, almost rivalling that of your own beauty, which she will openly deny. The older woman's eyebrow quirked up as she eyed you with a little disdain.
"Advocating for Artemis now, Beatrice? Maybe that would explain the apathy in beauty and romance." The woman pouted before walking up daintily to you. "You aren't even wearing the clothes I sent you, I hear there's a new gorgeous woman on the island. One you haven't rejected yet."
You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms, an irritated grin on your face. Poppy could see that you were practically steaming with anger, she couldn't help but find it incredibly attractive. She took note to piss you off a little next time.
She shook off the arousal she felt from seeing your agitated state and returned to the shock before her. You, the mysterious hero of the island of Kythera, with unnaturally attractive features, the body of an Adonis, and the appeal that would make any girl swoon, were the child of the goddess of beauty herself, Aphrodite.
"What kingdom did you strip of a princess that you brought that gorgeous, pampered, pompous bitch from?" A hearty yet dainty laugh fell from the deity's lips making your blood boil with rage. In a hushed scream you said, "You're laughing at a time like this? Mother, you could start another war by acting so irrationally!"
The light blue sky suddenly turned dark as stars got lost in the clouds, the amused smile on your mother's lips fell as you stared at her, eyes still hard. "I never forced you to save that mortal. I never told you to take her in and to take care of her." As she took one step forward, you took one backwards, she was a goddess after all. "And most of all, I, nor did Eros, lead you to kiss her." Your mother smirked and placed a finger over her lips, as if she were thinking. "Not just once either, dearest. You kissed her quite a number of times."
Your face erupted into a blush and you crossed your arms. "That doesn't mean anything." You muttered, hiding your face from the omnipotent being. Aphrodite grinned softly before humming mindlessly, wordlessly teasing you.
You grinned helplessly, really there was no use denying anything. The blonde's heart couldn't handle the twists and turns in this conversation, but her blood rushed to her cheeks as you asked, "Mother, the woman...Poppy...is she...did you...?"
Your mother quirked a brow, her lips forming a surprised "o" shape. You raised your eyes, shyly moving from side to side."She's a the daughter of a man of trade in Aethiopia I wiped clean of all her memories. She's not my creation." You nodded solemnly.
Quickly, you turned a heel in attempts to hide the flush growing on your face, the leaves under your feet crunching as you walked away from the glowing deity. "I am taking her back to her family." You muttered sternly.
Your mother's form began to human fade slowly as she said, "You have my, and the Olympians' favor, Beatrice. As you always have." With that she was gone.
You took a deep breath before dropping the bow and arrow in your hands. Eyes closed as you took in the night air, Poppy noted how you looked rather peaceful after that discussion. "If you're going to sneak up on someone and eavesdrop on their conversation, you should breathe softer." You called out suddenly, cracking an eye open.
The blonde yelped before you chuckled softly and walked over to her. Poppy emerged from her hiding spot. "If you knew I was there why the in Hades didn't you—hmph!" You pulled her in by the waist laughing against her lips as she hit your shoulder dozens of times with her little fists.
"It's not like you have light feet, Pop. I could hear you a mile away." You said, snark dripping from your voice. The blonde scoffed and shoved your shoulder. "As for why...I guess I didn't want to hide anything from you anymore." You said while leaning down to peck her lips again.
Poppy bit back a smile before masking it with a cocky smirk. "So I've been hooking up with a goddess, huh? Explains why I keep coming back." You burst out in laughter before pinning her up against a tree as she bit her lip in anticipation.
"I'm going to have to take you home, you beautiful creature." You said, half as a come on, half as a statement of fact. Poppy simply rolled her eyes and pulled you closer by your chin. Her lips a breath away from yours.
"I'll go to the ends of the world with you, Goddess Bea."
here yall go! since i didn't want to leave it on a weird note, part three coming soon. like all greek myths though, i'll likely let this end in tragedy AHAHAHAH jkjk we'll see how this plays out. but yes! confirmation that you are in fact a goddess in this. while traditionally, mortals would never treat goddesses the way poppy did without getting yeeted into the ocean but this is bea and poppy we're talking about. they're relationship is loving with an edge. anyway, i will be coming back vv soon! esp since it's rosé day when i'm posting this. but expect part 3 of this and some more surprises on their way! keep safe my lovelies and i will see you all soon! bye 💓 - r

[vibrating at a frequency to shatter glass]
I have so many thoughts on this!! There's so much stress that comes with becoming a lord. Whether you were born into it, lucked into it, were forced into it, or any other myriad of scenarios that could get you in this position, it is just not the best sometimes.
Especially for bigger villages there's so much to take care of. Sure you can set up councils and communicate with guards to make it easier, but it's constant work. Even in "down time" (as if the canon has that), they're constantly working. Like if you aren't a workaholic, you're miserable. And even if you are, it still sucks!
The constant dread of every time a guard takes too long on patrol might mean they've been killed and are about to become a Shadow Knight and kill you? Yeah, it seems needlessly paranoid, but it's a real worry, especially for Aph and Cadenza who have a history with this.
And despite time and time again being told and proven to that getting help from others is essential, they still try to handle everything on their own. That's how Aph got this job in the first place. And when she did start leaning on Laurance, Garroth decided to be a little bitch about it and unintentionally upend her entire livelihood.
AND THEN WE GET TO LEVIN
(I'm just now realizing how long this reply is but I can't stop myself and you're always saying we need more whump in this community)
Levin has some very very intense feelings around being a lord. It's a position he was born into by parents he doesn't really know, and while Zoey keeps telling him stories of his mother with nothing but love and yearning in her voice, he barely has any memories of her. After being a lord for like a week, he realizes why. She wasn't exactly trying to be distant, but she was always working, always leaving him with someone else because she wasn't just looking after him, she was looking after an entire village.
And now he's doing the same. And he's worried it'll cause distance between him and his brother and the closest thing he really has to a mother. And when Aph shows back up, he doesn't really know what to do. He resents her, but he empathizes with her. He's furious she abandoned him, but knows he likely would have done the same in her situation.
Even characters who aren't lords have trauma around them. I feel like I can just gesture at Shadow Knights and you catch my drift, but what about Garroth?
He was born and raised to be his father's successor, Lord of O'Khasis, the closest thing someone in Ru'aun could be to a king. And considering the ambitions of his father and younger brother, it may very well have been on its way towards that. Being a lord in a city that big is so overwhelming. So many people handle so many different jobs and if one thing goes wrong the whole house of cards could come crashing down and Garroth doesn't know if he'll survive said crash long enough for anyone to pull him out of the wreckage.
His breaking point is that they're trying to take away the last sliver of choice he had in his life. He thought at least he could pick his wife, some girl in O'Khasis he meets and gets to marry and have by his side in spite of his doubts about that future. When his dad disregards that, he can't take it anymore. The weight of everything is starting to make him break, and he just runs before it can all come tumbling down on top of him.
When people suggest he should become lord of Phoenix Drop he becomes incredibly tense, and has to work to keep his voice even and politely say "I have no interest in such a thing."
Do you think that the lord's in Ru'an are underlooked? Like for any possible trauma that they got from the duties of being a lord and just nobody pays attention to it? Would really like to hear what you think about this! :3
yk i never actually thought about that
which is probably proof that they are in fact overlooked
i don’t really have much to say about this right now but if i think of anything in the future i’ll add it

zep mysteries that have Haunted Me: a post
the position hit on the last beat of should i stay or should i go-how did they get there in reality?????
what song did Zoey hear Max sing during their fight in s2e3?
WHAT WERE THE CUT MO AND TOBIN SONGS FROM S1?!?!?!?
and what was that entire Tobin storyline in the s1 finale? apparently it’s not something that happened in s2 so it’s just a completely abandoned storyline but WHAT WAS IT? he and the brogrammers seemed to be singing to Leif in a very intense fashion, and there seemed to be a serious conversation between them on the same day?!?
did Leif ever find out that it was Joan who wrote the peer review? Idk if it would affect him as much now, he’s over her and rightfully so, but would this change his view of his relationship with Zoey or maybe make him question the way he jumps to conclusions?
all we got of the Mo/Eddie breakup was a few angry one-sided phone calls, most likely bc they couldn’t get Patrick back due to covid, but why was it that they broke up?
did Ava and Joan ever reconcile after the promotion and quitting? they seemed great after 1x11, but apparently there was still some resentment there-I hope they end up okay
was goodnight my angel a potential song for later while the pilot was being written-“when we went sailing on an emerald bay”, etc?
DID THE CLARKES STAY IN TOUCH WITH HOWIE AND ABIGAIL? I just. I Love Them
how did the company softball tournament go?
what paths would the show have taken if the pandemic hadn’t happened?
and let me once again ask WHAT WERE THE CUT MO AND TOBIN SONGS?!?!

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Riley never got to experience the feeling of growing up in a normal familial setting. Their mother had them at the age of sixteen and simply did not have the funds or ability to raise them. Their biological father was listed as ‘unknown’. Fortunately for them, their mother had an older half-sister that had expressed interest in adopting them at birth.
Despite being raised as one of their own children, Riley’s aunt and uncle never hid the fact that they were adopted. They claimed that it was so that Riley never wondered why they didn’t ‘quite fit in’ with their adopted siblings. In truth, this made them feel more alienated. To make matters worse, they had to see their biological mother at family functions - a woman that they simply couldn’t connect with in any capacity.
Growing up, Riley was the ‘edgy/alternative’ kid (as their family labeled them). They were heavily into punk/pop-punk, spent most of their time at the local skate park on their skateboard, and was generally moody. They were also a very artistic teen, pouring a lot of their time into drawing, writing, and playing guitar.
Their aunt bought them their first camera for their fourteenth birthday and from then on, they were hooked. All of their free time was spent on taking pictures. They could be landscape photography of the Brooklyn atmosphere, or silly photoshoots they put together of their friends.
When they finally got a part time job at the age of sixteen, they began saving their money to buy a professional grade camera. They knew from a young age that they would be doing this for the rest of their life. So much so that at the age of seventeen, they dropped out of high school to pursue photography full-time. While their aunt and uncle vehemently disagreed with their decision, they supported them until they could get on their feet.
It took around 12-18 months for them to build up enough clientele to do photography full-time, but it was so beyond worth the struggle.
At the age of twenty, they met a girl that they fell head-over-heels in love with. A person that became their muse and their everything. She convinced Riley to move with her to a small Rhode Island town, and Riley never even questioned it.
They were happy together for a year or two before the relationship fell apart. Riley does not resent her at all, and still cares for her deeply. Despite this, they still feel a little hurt in their heart over the situation. Something that can be seen in their photography.
Now at the age of twenty-eight, Riley runs a very successful freelance photography business out of their home. They photograph everything from weddings to senior pictures and all shoots in between.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
EX-GIRLFRIEND: (the person that convinced them to move to Rocky View, though I may put in a wc for this)
FLING/FLIRATIONSHIP:
BEST FRIEND:
PARTY FRIEND:
FREQUENT MODELS: (x/2)
FRENEMY: (someone Riley loves to hate. They often butt heads but have each other’s backs when it counts.)

Big vent but I need to get it off my shoulders so like my parents have never really gotten along and they’ve been in fights both big and small, some just arguing and some involving guns lol. So you can imagine how I felt when I got a text from my sister saying “mommy and daddy got in a fight” while I was at a friends house. I honestly laughed a little because it happens all of the time they’re always in fights yk? But then I get home and my moms nowhere to be found. I ask my sister and she says our mom left hours ago and hasn’t come back. Now to some people that sounds terrifying but to me I didn’t care, our mom is always doing that where she runs off after a fight/argument and leaves us without warning. But then more than 24 hours pass and it was like 30° so my dad files a police report and everything and I’m freaking out. Yes she has left before but never more than 6 ish hours. The scary part is that she didn’t have her car. So she either found somewhere to spend the night or spent the night in below freezing temps with no heating.. so at this point I’m freaking out ofc. Like wtf mom, where the hell are you?? And I honestly thought she had committed suicide because she suffers from many mental disorders but then my sisters and I get added to a gc with our aunt and she says “your mom just called from an unidentified number and says she’s in a women’s safe home and she’s okay but she won’t tell anyone where she is exactly” and when I tell you I was PISSED. And your probably thinking; Zoey, why are you pissed, your moms alive!! I’m pissed because my mother- a 45 year old woman (fully fucking grown) decided to leave her 5 children out of nowhere WITHOUT SAYING BYE to a woman’s safe home- if you don’t know what that is, it’s where women go to seek safety/shelter specifically from domestic abuse, not small arguments with their husbands, I mean like full blown abuse like they have nowhere to go and are in a crisis type situations- and the problem is, why did she go there after just a small argument and decide to call her sister who literally never talks to us?? Why didn’t she call any of her children? I get not calling me cuz I’m only 13 but she could have called my 17 year old sister, or my 18- almost 19 year old one??? And on top of that, why didn’t that bitch even say bye? And why did she go to a woman’s safe home acting like she’s being physically abused when in reality SHES JUST LOOKING TO RUN AWAY FROM HER FUCKING PROBLEMS. And I can’t blame her for wanting to run away from her problems because I get that as well and she was never taught that running away from them is bad, but at the same time, she decided to run away from them in this way RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS and leave all of her children alone?? WE GOT HER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS AND I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IT MY SISTER GOT HER A PERFUME AND SHE FUCKING LEFT US WHAT THE FUCK??? WHY CANT SHE JUST GET A GOD DAMN DIVORCE AND MOVE ON???? I’ve never felt this way towards my mom, I’ve been mad at her before and I’ve said I hate her before, but right now I feel a sense of rage and resentment that I’ve never felt towards her before. I want her to come back of course but at the same time I don’t think I’m ever gonna be able to see her the same way you know? I don’t know maybe I’m over exaggerating but no matter how many runs I go on to clear my head, I can’t stop thinking about how she didn’t even say goodbye and about how she let me puke myself to sleep because I thought she was dead and in reality she was just taking a “mental break” in a little home with people taking care of her. What the fuck mom?
