why doesn't shin leave?
that's the question, right? there are secondary ones, of course – why didn't she kill sabine/was she sandbagging their duel/did she intentionally perform a nonfatal stabbing/was she sent there to interact with sabine at all, or just for the map.... but really, my question at the end of ep1 was:
Tumblr media
why is she waiting here at all?
"we've been looking for this," shin says, and that's what, an accusation? conversation-starter? she's here to talk? maybe, okay – except she's actively thieving, so what can she be expecting by sticking around but a fight? so she secures the map and she waits for sabine. to fight her. but the question is still why and in my unqualified opinion i think the answer is found back here:
Tumblr media
"ahsoka tano's former apprentice is on lothal."
what do we know about baylan? he was a jedi, once. he witnessed the purge of his order and adapted to a life of survival – he maintains certain jedi traditions, he passes these traditions to his padawan: the braid, the traditional construction of the lightsaber, if not the crystal inside (standing mystery, though). he is nostalgic but not melancholy, connected perhaps to the more elegant and noble history of the jedi but evidently strongly opposed to assuming that title at present.
what do we know about shin? well...almost nothing. except that when baylan speaks, shin listens. she obeys unquestioningly. when morgan speaks, shin watches baylan. they are close; there is mutual trust, though clearly more dependency on shin's side. and she is likely – though not certainly – born after order 66.
i'm confident answers will be forthcoming about shin's past, but in the meantime, working with the (very!!) little we have, assuming the subtle intricacies of the shot direction and ivanna's acting are all intentional, and with the full disclaimer that im brainrotty for wolfwren......i want to answer my original question.
shin has never seen another apprentice before. beyond baylan and inquisitors (apparently), she has probably never seen another lightsaber-wielder before. and yet – her master, while scorning the label of jedi, is steeped in jedi history. he seems to be training her according to some traditional jedi principles (though...what with the mass-murder and the mercenary work, of course we don't yet know the extent of those principles), and it would follow that he would have imparted the history of the jedi as well.
baylan skoll is not a jedi. but ahsoka tano is. or, was. but the antagonist squad refers to her as a jedi, so from shin's perspective it's not just "ahsoka tano's apprentice" on lothal. she is being told there is a real, live jedi apprentice on lothal.
and the jedi are extinct.
Tumblr media
we're into the rampant speculation part of the meta now, because what is shin thinking in this moment?
there's a green lightsaber before her – a jedi apprentice before her – or at least the former-apprentice-of-a-jedi, but shin is the apprentice-of-a-former-jedi, and at some point the semantics get in the way of the exhilaration. this is probably (again, this whole thing could get disproven in the next episode or something) the first lightsaber battle shin has ever had with someone who might actually kill her. (i assume baylan wouldn't engage in prolicide while sparring.)
this is, i think, shin at her most excited. on the one hand – it's another apprentice! it's another member of an order (her order??) that was supposed to be wiped out! this is proof of concept maybe, that shin isn't so alone! and on the other hand – this is a test, no? like, the first real test of shin's full abilities, assuming she's never dueled before? again, i wish we knew more about her motivations, but it stands to reason a padawan that powerful and devoted would constantly be looking for ways to both prove and improve herself, right?
and then. sabine. sucks.
she's sloppy and weak and doesn't use the force. she's untrained and undisciplined and slow and gets tired too quickly.
Tumblr media
shin starts blocking with one hand. she starts sidestepping sabine's wild swings. there's no way she's is trying to kill her at this point; shin is playing with her food.
i just...think she's disappointed?? like, she was probably expecting so much more from a proper jedi's apprentice, and i think we'd need more information about her to extrapolate what exactly she wants in this scene, but i'd be willing to bet it wasn't this sub-par, former-apprentice bitch-ass fight. (love to sabine but like. she did get her clock cleaned. obviously.)
regardless, i am excited to see how this experience influences the forestfight™ we know is on the way...and also if sabine, like, feels...anything....about being skewered like a county fair corn dog?? i mean trauma or anger or fear or drive or?? bc we know shin wasn't actually trying to kill her, (this is my official stance and im sticking to it) but sabine sure doesn't!!

Cross the World for You
AO3 Link: Here! For @wolfwrenweek Day 3: "I can help you." Warnings: blood and injury Summary: Come alone. A simple enough request, though Sabine knew the danger hidden in those words. She’d never faired well alone with Shin. The scar on her abdomen tingled at the thought, she could feel her energy seeping through the old wound just as it had that evening on Lothal.
Come alone.
A simple enough request, though Sabine knew the danger hidden in those words. She’d never faired well alone with Shin. The scar on her abdomen tingled at the thought, she could feel her energy seeping through the old wound just as it had that evening on Lothal.
“What is it?” Ahsoka questioned, her facial markings furrowed as she studied her padawan’s spaced-out stare. When golden eyes met her own, she seemed to understand quickly. “You must face this on your own, then.” Silent, Sabine only nodded. Her lips parted as if she wanted to tell Ahsoka request be damned, though the Togruta interrupted. “Sometimes, we have to set aside our personal feelings in order to do what is right, Sabine. You know this better than most others I’ve ever known. However intense your rivalry, we cannot let Baylan sacrifice her for his beliefs. It’s wrong.”
Head hung, Sabine nodded. “Yeah.” She sighed dejectedly. “Okay.” Channeling everything from her time in the Rebellion, Sabine forced herself to stop looking through her feelings and to approach the situation tactfully. “Keep an eye out for Baylan. I’d prefer not to run into him while I’m getting them out of there. Once I have Shin, I’m going to get her to safety. I don’t want to take her straight to the Noti camp, especially if he’s chasing her like this.” Rubbing at her eyes, Sabine peered off to the skyline. “I’ll find a way to let you know where we end up. Once I’m sure Shin can be civil and not attack me, the Noti, or you, and we can find some way to conceal their position from Baylan, then I’ll bring her back.”
Ahsoka pondered the plan, nodding slowly as she watched it play out in her head. “Alright. I’ll follow your lead until we part, I’ll stay nearby only to drag Baylan’s attention. The rest is up to you.”
Alright, Shin. Tell me where I’m going.
Once she was far enough from Ahsoka, it didn’t take long. Some kind of inner compass seemed to come to life, either in herself or her howler, though she couldn’t be sure. After wandering through the snow for an hour, Sabine found a spot of discolored snow, red staining the fluffy substance in droplets, reaching deeper into a rocky crevice further ahead. Her stomach did backflips as her Howler came to a stop.
“Wait here,” she commanded, sliding from the saddle and grabbing her pack, all the while not taking her eyes off the trail that had been left for her. “If Baylan comes, retreat, but otherwise-” She finally looked away, grasping the Howler’s chin in her hand and meeting its gaze. “Don’t go anywhere. I need you to be brave.” The beast blew out a huff of air, its tongue hanging out lopsided from its mouth. The Mandalorian only had a moment to dodge its tongue as it tried to kiss her goodbye. “I’ll be back.” With that, Sabine treaded forward.
The rocky terrain was hard to navigate, climbing up and down, using footholds to find higher ground, only to scramble back down once uneven stones threatened to slip from under her feet. She was sure she got turned around more than once in the mad scrabble to find Shin, though the blood painted on almost every surface steered her in the right direction, until eventually, the droplets looked wetter and felt warmer when she reached them. She was close.
Trepidation filled her lungs as she found a small cave nestled far in the back. She couldn’t feel Shin the same as when the blonde was in her head, or vice versa, but she could feel something almost… electric charging the air the closer she got.
All of a sudden, Shin was there. Her weight was supported by a damp cave wall almost entirely, blood seeped through at least half of their tunic, while mud caked the once shining silver of the armor on their hips and shoulders. Her vambraces were gone, and the sleeves of her shirt had been torn away; though by beast or bramble, Sabine could not say. “Gotal’ade, you look like a fucking wreck.”
Shin huffed out something unintelligible. Sabine had to bite back the laugh that threatened to bubble past her lips. “Alright. Give me your lightsaber-” She eyed the weapon, scuffed and filthy, where it rested on their hip. “And we can get out of here.”
“I will not disarm for you or anyone like you.” Shin spat some fire, life, returning to their eyes as they blocked the weapon from sight with their forearm.
“I trusted you enough to come alone, after everything you’ve done,” Sabine mirrored the blonde’s movement, though her arm pressed higher above her hip, pressing against the scar against her abdomen that throbbed in a near-constant reminder. “You have to trust me now. Trust me, that I’m going to do what’s right.” She extended her hand now, offering more than just support to their wavering stability.
Like a wounded animal, tired eyes jumped, first to Sabine’s hand, then to her blasters and saber, then to meet her gaze. That electrical feeling tugged again, something deep in her bones. “I still hate you, you know. But I won’t let you face this, not alone.”
“Good.” Shin rasped. Finally, finally, the blonde reached out. Sabine tried not to notice how perfectly their hand fit within her own. She barely had time to, in fact, as the blonde seemed to dive into the opportunity, to allow someone else to shoulder the burdens of the weight they’d been carrying.
Sabine took the weight with grace, arms circling around the blonde’s waist and tugging her close until they weren’t at risk of hitting the ground. “Pain in my ass.” She grumbled as their chin dropped into her shoulder.
With the threat of Baylan looming ever closer, Sabine was faced with the task of maneuvering a passed-out Dark-Sider and the mile of Peridea’s entire jagged boulder supply. “This is where the fun begins.”

hi!! Saw you were doing thrawn requests!! Can I please have thrawns s/o that hasn’t seen him since his disappeared, going with Baylan and elsbeth to find him, and in that reveal scene(when we first see him) they throw themselves over his shoulders crying and just kiss him? Yeah ton of pda for thrawn, but they haven’t seen him in almost forever!!
also have a lovely day!! 😊
Sure honey !
Thrawn x gn!reader
You hold on your hood as the Chimaera descends on the stone structure, welcoming you all in its large hangar. Morgan Elsbeth takes some steps forwards as the row of troopers reveal themself to you. Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati observe the ship with a careful curiosity while the Great Mothers remain unbothered like they’ve seen it a million times. You, you remain in the back, stomach twisted in knots, tension rising in your blood.
Is it now? The end of your anguish? The end of your pain?
You hide behind your hood.
As the ship finishes placing herself the troopers start chanting a name you thought you would never hear again.
“Thrawn. Thrawn. Thrawn.”
You gulp.
A silhouette starts drawing itself on the other side of the hangar, peacefully walking among the night troopers without hurrying itself, taking its sweet time. With long strides a very well known white uniform reveals itself, with black boots, blue skin and red eyes. Your heart misses a bit.
Him!
Finally!
He walks towards the group with the serene expression of the one that planned everything right. A bunch of night troopers follow him with a curious golden helmet trooper right behind him.
“What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality for those who may oppose us.” He says with a grin.
This voice.
How you longed for that voice! You feel tears building up behind your eyes.
“Great Mothers, I salute you.” He continues, ever so polite.
Thrawn.
Your long lost lover.
Your cha’cah.
Your dear one.
“Soon we shall all esca-”
You cut him out, launching yourself forward towards him. His night troopers raise their weapon but you’re quicker and percute him full force, under the eyes wide open of Morgan, Baylan and Shin. Thrawn has just the time take a step behind to stabilize himself when you come crashing against him, circling him with your arms with a broken gasp full of tears.
“Thrawn…” you exclaim, squeezing him as tight as you can.
“It is me, indeed.” He chuckles, pushing the hood of your head. “What a pleasure it is to finally see you again, cha’cah.”
You gulp with tears rolling on your cheeks, holding him tight. Behind you hear the gasp indignant of Morgan and the cold gaze of the Mothers, but you don’t care.
You’re finally in your rightful place, in his arms.
You seize his face and place a handful of pecks on his cheek, on his nose, at the corner of his lips, on his temple and forehead.
He looks at you, amused, not at all resenting for ruining his grand entrance. His hands come caressing your cheeks, bruising your tears.
“Let me admire your face.” he says, not caring for the rest of the group. “You are as beautiful as the day I lost you.”
You smile between your tears and kiss him, not able to take it anymore. How right it feels to have your lips pressed on his. After so long. You feel his arms snake their way to your back to squeeze you tight against him. You moan like you know he loves, you feel his lips curving in a smile in the kiss. You dig your nails deep in his flesh, keeping him in place against you.
“Hum-hum…Grand Admiral?”
Morgan breaks the moment, reminding you that there is a whole group awaiting for Thrawn to take the lead and your waiting time.
Bitch.
You growl. He parts with you with a chuckle, caressing your hair.
“Excuse me, something impromptu just presented to me.” He simply says, not sorry at all for his dead silent rescue group. He pulls you to his side, a hand on your waist, holding you close. You snuggle against him without shame. You take delight in Morgan’s confused face, you know she hoped to place herself as the closest ally to Thrawn for his return and you just snatched that away from her with insolence. Baylan and Shin don’t bring themself in the fire and remain silent as the Mothers.
Morgan winces and bow slightly her head with a smile that she surely hoped was sympathetic.
“Of course, Grand Admiral. May I present you someone?” she gestures toward Baylan and Shin.
You stop listening, eyes fully on Thrawn, completely enthralled, you slide your hand in his and squeeze it, putting your head on his shoulder.
You just need to bring him back home and all would be perfect!

(My art! Please credit if you repost) Rebel teases Sabine... - (Small Fanfic/description of what going on rn. I don't mind any errors..) Also, my insert OC will be mentioned so don't cringe. lol -------------
After what seems like days, Ahsoka, Sabine, Huyang, and Rebel successfully rescued Ezra Bridger. They worked together as a team and broke away from Trawn and the empires after Baylan betrayed Sabine. She told him she would be reunited but that didn't mean they both wouldn't be captured! Rebel helped sniff out their location once they landed on the new planet and broke them out.
A long battle was carried out after the escape and that was when Sabine realized Ezra was in pretty bad shape as they boarded the ship. The raven-haired man passed out cold once his adrenaline went down and he was then immediately rushed into medical attention. Huyang advised Ahsoka and Sabine to wait outside while he treated Bridger. This sent Sabine into a spiral of worry and frustration, she shouldn't have ever trusted Baylan and kept it together! She just wanted to see Ezra so bad but not like this! She watched outside as the droid began to strip away his clothes and check at the wounds scattered across his torso; other than a few bruises and cuts he seemed fine.
"Are Mandalorian women this bold when seeing a man with his shirt off?" Rebel's voice spoke out with a teasing grin across her face.
Sabine felt her face ball up into flush and embarrassment as she realized she had been staring! "Cut it off." She huffed out a whisper as his elbow knocked back into the hybrid's chest. Rebel's tail wagged behind her as she saw a Sabine's frown slightly curve into a grin for a moment just before it lowered back down into a harsh scowl.
Rebel just laughed and snickered like a child as she noticed the faint strokes of red painted across the Mandolorian's face. She looked up at Ahsoka who seemed to be hiding a chuckle before she suddenly stopped. They all looked up towards the door of the med-bay with worry lingering around in the air.
--------------- (Comment below on what you think is going to happen next episode!)

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW AHSOKA EPISODE IM SCREAMING
I HAVE and this is honestly the first week i've been actually invested in watching the next ep omg!!! they're doing interesting stuff!!
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
THERE'S SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT OMG. first of all i have to say the late great ray stevenson/ baylan is absolutely the highlight of the show acting & character wise, there's so much depth he's putting into the character somehow like every line he says i'm shoving sabine and ahsoka aside like this is my new fave sorry lesbians. biggest cuntserve of the show
HOWEVER COMMA THE REASON I'M SO INVESTED IS BC IT'S SUCH A GREAT WRITING CHOICE TO HAVE SABINE GIVE INTO HER ATTACHMENTS AND JOIN THE THRAWN STANS TO GET EZRA BACK. YES!!! SHE WOULD!!! she isn't ready to let go of her attachments!!! she won't do as ahsoka says!! fuckin anakincore of her!!! willing to raze the galaxy for the last few parts of her family!! LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHERE THIS GOES
Also I think the direction was a lot better? I'm shit at clocking how good fight scene direction is but there were a lot of scenes that just felt so much stronger than the prev eps? like when sabine puts the ball in baylan's hand they made you FEEL the weight of that moment with the pacing and camera and the sound design.
ACTUALLY THO THE FIGHT SCENES WERE A LOT BETTER THIS EP partly bc there was just. More to them? i liked how ahsoka dealt w marrok in 2 seconds basically indiana jones shooting the sword guy style bc that made the baylan/ahsoka fight SO MUCH MORE IMPACTFUL bc she's seriously trying and she's flipping and doing all this crazy stuff that makes you go shittttt these guys are super great jedi -- AND ALL WHILE trying to get the map so it wasnt just a "we're fighting bc we're fighting/ to not die" there was a very feasible objective on-hand to make the already great fight even better
and of course i have to talk abt That. i was poggin beyond belief when hayden showed up like LETS GOOOOOOO. and its super cool!!!!! but i do hope they do smthn interesting with this tho (I HAVE FAITH IN THIS SHOW AFTER THIS WEEK SO I'M HOPEFUL) and actually explore ahsoka and the super fuckedup complicated relationship she has w anakin/vader instead of going "ah its so nice to see you again!! im gonna ignore you murdered children and all our friends and tried to kill me etc etc bc people want to see us as friends!" like no i dont want that!! this should be her opportunity to work w the trauma they keep hinting at but not rlly exploring (ie w her taking on forceless sabine as a padawan or how she keeps acting like all that happened was she walked away from anakin and he didnt fall. it could be good writing for trauma) and have ahsoka like... accept the past accept what her master became and MAKE ME INVESTED IN THIS ITERATION OF THE CHARACTER. BC THERE HAS BEEN LIKE NO CHARACTER MOMENTS AND IT'S NOT HELPED BY THE ACTING/ WRITING!!
also did ezra yoinking her outta the world between worlds give her nine lives is she just gonna be able to walk out after dying again

In The Woods Somewhere
Whumpuary2024, Day 05 - (Alt) Prompt: Stabbed
Tumblr media
Something in Sabine's burgeoning connection to the Force draws her out to the woods just as the Peridean sun rises…
AO3 Here
Sabine jolted awake and sat bolt upright in her bunk with a gasp. The lights in the room were turned low and the chronometer told her there were a couple of hours to go before dawn, so she slumped back against the pillows and tried to figure out what it was that had woken her. It could have been a dream, but since Mandalore she never remembered her dreams, and she had a distinct image of a forest in the rain still in her mind. It didn't look like anywhere she knew, but the trees looked distinctly Peridean to her. When they had been on the Ghost together, Ezra had visions through the Force - but they were strong and overwhelmed him while he was awake. There was something, though. Some strange pull she felt that coaxed her out of her bed and out of the ship. Ignoring it just made it stronger, so she sighed and got up.
Ahsoka was probably already awake, so she didn't bother moving quietly when she left in full armour, carrying both blasters and lightsaber. Shin and her bandits hadn't appeared for weeks now, but they were still out there - along with wild Howlers and probably countless other predator species - and it paid to travel prepared. Sabine hopped down from the idling T6 into the Noti camp below it, and made her way to the edge, aiming for the tree line in the distance. Her plan was to walk until it started raining, and then look for a place that matched her vision, but she was still wary: their slow pursuit of Baylan Skoll had skirted around the trees so far, and from what she had managed to decode of the Noti language, they feared the forests as much as the ancient Nightsister ruins. 'The domain of betrayal', if her translation was right. Still, the Noti were pacifists, and Sabine had weapons and armour that far outstripped anything the locals had access to.
The rain started and the pull got stronger. Ahsoka had told her so often to surrender to the Force when she felt it, but Sabine still found herself trying to resist it: trying to guide herself to a destination she would never find without the help of the Force. It was the Mandalorian in her, determined to make her own way, and while she still hadn't decided the path she wanted her life to take, right now she needed Jedi instincts to find whatever was out there. Something about the pull had changed now - it felt urgent. Desperate, even. Something in the dark between the trees was calling out to her like a distress call. Sabine paused, shut her eyes and took a deep breath, and waited until she could stop second-guessing herself and follow her instincts. When she opened them again, she was already walking.
When she next glanced up from the ground, placing her feet to avoid a series of knotted roots, what she saw in front of her lined up so immediately with the image from her dream that Sabine almost fell over in surprise. At the exact same moment, the tug at her guts disappeared like a cut cord, and she was left standing alone and unsure in the darkness and the rain. Outside the forest, the sun would have risen by now, but under the canopy there was barely enough light to see.
"Hello?" she called, but received no answer. The trees absorbed her voice before the echo could get very far. She doubted anyone would hear her over the rain.
Sabine tried to place her trust in the Force and took a few steps forwards, but when her gut instinct insisted she was going the wrong way, she couldn't help turning back. And there, slumped against a rock between two trees, was Shin Hati. Her hair was starting to grow out and she had pinned it back behind her head, and her clothes and armour had been adapted and added to with bandit equipment, but it was definitely her.
Caution dictated she draw a weapon and approach slowly- after all, Shin was a deadly assailant who had spent their entire time on Peridea trying to kill her. It could be a trap. Sabine dimly recognised that after she had started running towards her, and by the time she had crashed to her knees in the mud by Shin's still form all of her weapons were still clipped to her belt.
"Shin?" she demanded, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking. "Shin, wake up!"
Why did she care? Why was there a roiling, sinking sensation, like a battleship going down, churning through her guts? Why was Shin not moving? Her hair was plastered to her face, which looked even paler than usual, and when Sabine lifted her eyelids she found her eyes rolled back into her head. Her pulse was thready and unstable, but it was there. She wasn't dead, but she was dying.
Sabine glanced down, and saw that Shin Hati had been stabbed.
This wasn't the neat, perfectly circular mark of a lightsaber blade - like the one Shin had given her when they first met - this was a messy, jagged incision that left blood and severed skin behind rather than a perfectly cauterised scar. A lightsaber, even in the hands of whatever Shin and Baylan were, was a Jedi weapon first and foremost, and killing was a last resort. This had to have been a bandit weapon.
A soft cough turned Sabine's attention back to Shin's face, where she saw the briefest flicker of her eyelids. Her throat worked to swallow, and Sabine tried to shake her again.
"Wake up, blast it!" she growled, but Shin remained silent. "Karabast," she muttered, reaching into her armour pouch for a bacta spray and unclipped the cover from the nozzle. "Don't blame me when you're not ready for this," she said, and pressed the tip against the wound in her stomach.
Shin's eyes shot open and she screamed as the bacta started to knit severed veins back together and stem the bleeding. The sound wrenched at Sabine's heart as much as it did her ears, and she gripped Shin's shoulder with her free hand to try and soothe her.
"I know, I know," she said, concentrating on running the device all the way around the rough edges of the wound. "It stings, I know."
Sabine had been unfortunate enough to learn a lot of battlefield medicine during the war, and she knew when someone wasn't going to make it without a full bacta immersion. She didn't know if there was a full-scale tank on the T6, but the alternative was that Shin Hati would die out here, from a wound inflicted by her own allies. 'The domain of betrayal' wasn't a myth after all.
"I have to get you to the ship," Sabine said, trying to sound reassuring and not let on that she wasn't sure that would save her either. The helmet made her sound insincere so she took it off with one hand, scrabbling for a bacta patch with the other. There was no way it would heal Shin's slashed organs or repair her internal bleeding, but it might seal the initial flesh wound enough for Sabine to carry her. She wished she had brought Mirshko the Howler with her, but there was no point thinking about it now.
"Sabine?" Shin's voice was a thin whine that Sabine barely heard over the rain.
"It's me," she said, lifting the tattered remains of Shin's bloodstained robe to press the patch to her skin. The wound was so big the strip barely covered it, but at least the infusion had stopped the more severe bleeding. "You can murder me once I save your life, okay?"
"Took… lightsaber," Shin managed. Her eyes opened for a moment, and a lump rose in Sabine's throat as she saw how bloodshot they were. A second later they closed again, and Sabine worried she had been too late.
"Shin?!" she shouted, and the other woman stirred very slightly.
"It's a trap," she said. "They're… they're coming."
Sabine's blood ran cold.

Ehn’yuste, Chapter 1: A Warm Welcome (a WolfWren Fanfic)
Notes: I’m so completely normal about Shin Hati/Sabine Wren. I’ve definitely not been constantly thinking about them since I learned the ship existed. This fic is mostly canon-compliant (I think, the timeline between Rebels and Ahsoka is funky), tho canon-extrapolated might be a better term. If any of my writing seems out of character, that’s just the year of character development everyone had. This is mostly WolfWren at the moment, but I also have NiteArmor plans. CW for genocide mentions. A Mando’a glossary can be found below the cut.
One year after the Ignition
“Outsider, state your business,” crackled a deep voice from the shuttle’s comm. Shin had never seen her girlfriend look more offended. “Outsider? Not likely. I’m Sabine of Clan Wren, former owner of the Darksaber, and…” Sabine continued in Mando’a, which Shin didn’t fully understand yet but knew enough to know she would’ve been censored on the HoloNet. “So sorry ma’am, your ship’s transponder isn’t on our registry,” the voice replied in an apologetic tone, “let me get the boss as I take you down.” Sabine began tailing the Gauntlet-class in Shin’s Jedi Shuttle, which they had decided to rename to Wolf. Based on what Baylan had told her about Mandalore, Shin was honestly surprised the fighter hadn’t started shooting when it saw Eta-class on its scans, but she chalked it up to it her mercenary cover. “Here you go baby, this is what the empire did to my family,” Sabine said, with the faint bitterness of an old wound. Shin knew that while their time on Peridea managed to distance themselves from their pasts, some tragedies scar instead of heal. At least they had each other, and Sabine wasn’t the last Mandalorian despite what her nightmares told her. “Careful, the storms here can get pretty rough,” their unintended guide’s voice started fading into static, “just keep close to my beacon as we head down.” The two Jedi smiled at each other as they began descending into the storm clouds.
As they emerged from the electric shroud, Sabine’s trepidation was slowly replaced by glee. Sundari’s dome was mostly gone, sure, but banners of all the clans were hanging on what was left of it. Outpost buildings sat on the glassy surface, flanking a large new doorway cut into the old dome. Dozens upon dozens of starships littered the area, a motley crew of home-built Mandalorian ships, New Republic surplus, liberated Imperial vessels, and even one Naboo starfighter (she HAD to know whose this was). And were those…agricultural plots next to the dome? The voice emerged from the static, “We don’t exactly have docking bays, so set your shuttle down wherever you like. I’d suggest near the promenade, as the Mand’alor is waiting for you there. This is the Way.” Sabine was taken somewhat aback by such an old-fashioned saying. While she was racking her brain for the traditional response, the Gauntlet-class peeled away, disappearing into the clouds once more. Shin was confused, but for a much different reason. “I know you’ve told me this, but how are we meeting a planet?” Sabine grinned, “Mandalore isn’t just a planet, it’s a way of life. The traditional leader of it is called ‘the Mand’alor’, and while the culture, planet, and leadership aren’t exactly synonymous anymore, we don’t tend to change names for things all that often.” After a pause, she added, “I think I technically was the Mand’alor for a few months.” Shin’s face looked even more surprised, “okay how have you not told me this yet?” Sabine’s grin fell a bit, “it wasn’t exactly a happy time in my life. But I promise I’ll tell you later. Hey, found a spot.” They set the Wolf down in an open area, a few ships away from the Naboo fighter. “The air seems breathable,” Shin reported off the atmo-nalysis. “Yeah, I’m still gonna wear my helmet,” Sabine replied, “feels wrong to not wear it at home.”
As the ramp lowered, they were greeted by a figure in blue and white armor. “So I get an emergency message from one of our new pilots, and I think, ‘great, the new kid is overreacting’. Then I see the note ‘Darksaber’ attached and start to worry. But once he drops off the packet saying you’re Clan Wren, I start to suspect I’d be seeing your purple armor stepping off this shuttle.” Bo-Katan Kryze took off her helmet, “Welcome home, Sabine Wren.” “Shut up and give me a hug you big softie,” Sabine shouted as she ran toward her old friend, “it’s been too long!” As they embraced, Bo-Katan asked, “It’s been years, who’s the plus-one?” Sabine removed her helmet, showing the biggest, dumbest grin Bo-Katan had seen in years. “She, my dear duchess, is the reason you haven’t heard about me for over a year.” She dashed back to Shin, grabbing her hand and dragging her over to Bo-Katan, “Lady Bo-Katan Kryze, meet Shin Hati, Jedi Knight and love of my life.” Shin offered her hand for a shake, but Bo-Katan grabbed her forearm for a traditional Mandalorian greeting. “Welcome to Mandalore, Shin Hati, Jedi Knight.” Seeing her surprise at such a warm greeting, Bo-Katan added, “Don’t worry, Mandalore has been on good terms with you Force-wielding maniacs for a while now. Come on inside, we’ve got a lot to discuss.”
“So who’s flying the vintage N-1?” Sabine asked as they walked past the Naboo starfighter, “Looks like they managed to mod it, though I am a bit disappointed by the bare chrome.” “That’s Din Djarin’s ride, I’ll introduce you two,” Bo-Katan said with a smile, “He’s a fan of the chrome, never painted his beskar’gam. You’re gonna love his kid, he’s a Jedi.” Sabine and Shin shared a glance with each other. Another Mandalorian Jedi? What other surprises did this new Mandalore hold? “So tell me what you’ve been up to. Why return to Mandalore now?” Bo-Katan’s voice was a little colder now, with a touch of disappointment. Clearly, she had missed Sabine in whatever happened since they had left. “We were both looking for my brother Ezra.” Sabine’s answer didn’t quite satisfy Bo-Katan. “Yeah but Bridger came back a year ago, what were the two of you doing after that?” “Well, we didn’t exactly rescue him, it was more like we switched places,” Sabine answered, which seemed to intrigue Bo-Katan. Shin jumped in, “We were stuck out there in another galaxy for a year, and somehow managed to catch feelings for each other.” “Well there wasn’t much else to do besides training and exploring the world and each other—” Sabine was cut off by Bo-Katan’s curt “Wren!” “Sorry Duchess, didn’t know you were so uptight now.” Sabine’s voice overflowed with snark. Shin quickly tried changing the subject, “So Duchess Kryze, what are all these banners hanging from the wall?” “Oh, Countess Wren didn’t tell you?” Bo-Katan’s “countess” threw Shin off, “These are the signets of every Mandalorian clan, past and present. The Leonid is Clan Eldar, the Vexis is Clan Rook, and the Starbird is Clan Wren.” Shin looked up and saw what Bo-Katan was gesturing to: a more intricate version of the circular symbol Sabine plastered on everything. Sabine looked up and saw a hopelessly bland banner that she would have to repaint soon.
As they walked into the old city, Shin’s eyes gazed in wonder. Thousands of buildings in various conditions filled what used to be a dome, and they all somehow looked exactly like she was imagining. She’d seen plenty of cultures with strong warrior traditions, and plenty with excellent architectural sensibilities, but never had she seen both blended so well. The structures all looked like Mandalorian armor in one way or another. Frames of various colors, with intricate geometric shapes, all with faintly green glass between them. Then she realized the green was probably from all the trinitite outside and felt an immense grief. No wonder Sabine held so much art and beauty and sadness within her. But the shops along the main corridor appeared to be open and thriving. “Forward and down the civic staircase is the Great Forge and the Living Waters,” Bo-Katan was giving the 5-cred tour, “Over to the right is the Alderaanian Quarter and the ag flats. We’re headed over here to the left, to my office.” “Alderaanian Quarter?” Sabine asked, “How did that happen?” “Genocide survivors have to stick together. When they heard we had retaken Mandalore, several prominent Alderaan survivors reached out in friendship.” “Friendship?” Sabine’s voice was full of skepticism, not contempt, “That really worked on the legacy of Death Watch?” “You’d be surprised how the purge changed us, just look at yourself,” Bo-Katan had turned a corner and was now looking at the lightsaber hanging from Sabine’s belt. “My office is a few floors above us, you’ll have to jet up. Getting the elevators working hasn’t exactly been a priority.” Bo-Katan led, followed by Sabine on jetpack, then Shin, who used the Force Jump-Pull paired technique that she and Sabine had developed while bouldering in Peridea’s mountains. Without skipping a beat, Bo-Katan continued, “Some of the people from Alderaan were a group of agricultural researchers who had been having trouble finding work together. So we offered them a chance. Today, rad-absorbent clover. In five years, Alderaanian wine.”
As they entered what Bo-Katan had called her “office”, Sabine began to laugh to herself. It was the Mand’alor throne room, except now the throne was half-destroyed and was placed at the head of a large conference table. Lining the walls were imperial computer terminals, what looked like the remains of a Gauntlet-class cockpit, and a large mural of a mythosaur (not half bad, even by Sabine’s high standards). Bo-Katan pulled out two chairs before sitting down on her throne. “Two questions: what’s the deal with the lightsaber, and why did you come back to Mandalore now?” Right to the point. “After the Purge, I was feeling incredibly guilty for not being there. I knew I should’ve come back instead of being at Jakku—” Bo-Katan interrupted, “Stop it Sabine. You alone couldn’t’ve stopped the Empire. Stop blaming yourself for the Night.” Sabine took a deep breath, “I know that now. That was one of the things I learned this year.” Two Mandalorians entered the room, one with a bronze helmet, the other with no helmet and carrying a tray of sliced uj’alayi. Sabine continued, “But a few weeks after the Night, I made contact with Ahsoka Tano. Asked her to train me in the Force so this wouldn’t happen again.” A woman’s voice emerged from the bronze helmet, “Ahsoka Tano, now that’s a woman who walks in two worlds.” “Sabine Wren and Shin Hati, meet the Armorer, our Keeper of the Forge, and my right hand.” Sabine wasn’t quite sure what to make of Bo-Katan’s introduction. Did the Armorer not have a name? “Anyway, my initial training went about as well as you would expect from me. We had a falling out, then last year she came back to me with a mission. She thought she found a lead on Ezra Bridger’s whereabouts.” Sabine sensed a bit of confusion from the helmeted woman and added, “Ezra’s my brother from the Rebellion. He’d gone missing a while ago.” Sabine thanked the uj courier as they left and then encouraged Shin to have a slice. A muffled “wow this is so good” escaped Shin’s lips before Sabine continued. “Turns out, Shin here was looking for Thrawn, so she stabbed me with her lightsaber to get the map to both of them.” Bo-Katan started to cackle, “Of course you would fall in love with someone who stabbed you. Ursa would be proud.” Sabine was surprised at how little a mention of her late mother hurt her. “Ahsoka and I managed to catch up to Shin and her former master,” she tried to find an explanation that would gloss over their convoluted adventure, “and we all made our way to Peridea, a planet in another galaxy where Thrawn and Ezra were stranded. We sent them back but got stuck there ourselves.” Bo-Katan and the Armorer were now fully invested in the story. Shin continued as Sabine had some uj cake, “During the year on Peridea we both managed to complete our Jedi training, and discovered that we had feelings for each other.” Sabine then showered Shin with a litany of kisses. “Both of you are Jedi?” the Armorer asked. Sabine replied, “Like you said, two worlds.” “And so after you manage to make it back to our galaxy, you come back to Mandalore.” Bo-Katan was starting to put the pieces together. “Well, my old master and I had collected a sizable amount of beskar as payment from the imperial remnants we worked for. Figured we should return it to its rightful home.” Shin’s honesty was not something either of the older Mandalorians were expecting. “Oh yeah, which means she’s technically a ‘wanted criminal’ according to the New Republic,” Sabine was now in full Rebel Snark™ mode, “maybe if she had stabbed them, they’d forgive her sooner.”
Bo-Katan sat in silence for a moment. “That complicates things.” Sabine’s anger started bubbling up, “How so?” Bo-Katan tried to remain diplomatic. “At the moment, we have to play nice with the New Republic. We’d like to not extradite anyone, but the best they could do is no extradition for Mandalorians.” “Which means,” the Armorer continued, “If you wish to remain here, you must become Mandalorian. You must marry.”
This was not the answer Sabine was expecting, but a small smile crept onto Shin’s face. “Wait but won’t the New Republic think we’re trying to pull a jehaat?” “Sabine, I trust you. If you believe Shin has changed and won’t cause any undue trouble, then I believe too.” Bo-Katan’s earnestness was slightly off-putting to Sabine, who still thought she secretly hated her. “Lady Kryze and I will both witness that you two arrived and asked to marry. If the New Republic asks if we knew your past crimes, we will not indicate that we did.” The Armorer paused, “that is, if you wish to continue down this path.”
Sabine’s mind was racing. Marriage? Already? She had only known Shin for a year. She had always kept her relationships at an arm’s length since Ketsu. Well, all of them until Shin. Sabine thought, or perhaps whispered, “I’m not sure I’m ready.” Shin grabbed her girlfriend’s chin, the turned it to her. She grinned, “Yes you are. You’ve been ready for months.” Then she pulled her in for a kiss. “Ni kar’tayli gar darasuum, Sabine Wren.”
After catching her breath, Sabine asked, “Tion gar vencuyi ner riduur, Shin Hati?” “I take it riduur means wife?” After a nod from the Mandalorians, she continued,
“the answer is yes.”
Mando’a translations (some are my own, so if they’re wrong let me know)
Ehn’yuste: “the three ways”, which will make sense in the future
Mando’a: the Mandalorian language
Mand’alor: the traditional spelling of Mandalore, now used mostly to refer to the owner of the Darksaber
Beskar’gam: Mandalorian armor
Uj’alayi: aka Uj cake, the best Mandalorian dessert, a sweet cake with dried fruit and nuts
Beskar: the lightsaber-resistant metal that Mandalorian armor is made from
Jehaat: lie, deception, scam
Ni kar’tayli gar darasuum: “i love you”, literally “I hold you in my heart forever”
Tion gar vencuyi ner riduur?: “will you marry me?” literally “will you be my spouse?” (Mando’a doesn’t have grammatical gender)

Hopefully I’m not grasping at straws, but this has been making my brain melt out of my ears for weeks. Maybe it’ll just be a hc if I’m wrong and everyone disagrees <3
Baylan’s stance. In almost all of his scenes, he stands (or walks, on the rare occasion) with his right hand resting on his saber.
The first example of this is in episode 1 when he sends Shin to Lothal. Baylan doesn’t have his hand resting on it when he’s standing near Morgan when he and Marrok return, but when Morgan leaves and Shin stands beside him, he does. And when Shin leaves, the shot is wider and we see Baylan standing in this way as Shin walks away.
Tumblr media
Then, at the beginning of episode 2 when he and Shin bring the map to Seatos, he has his hand there as they walk up.
Tumblr media
He continues to keep it rested there throughout the scene. As Morgan plays around with the star map and shows Peridea, his hand is always resting on his saber.
Tumblr media
This shot was a specific kind that I was looking for when it came to making this post. While you can kind of see his arm here, the main thing is that his arm position is drastic enough to change how his cloak sits around him. He doesn’t keep his arm close to his side when he stands like this. His elbow juts out enough that it makes a difference in his cloak.
BUT, before I talk about my original plan, a few more things.
Tumblr media
This is the only scene he has in episode 3, and it’s at the very end. Obviously, he’s not standing like he usually is.
And, you guessed it, his hand is rested there in all their scenes in episode 4 as well, even when they talk to Morgan on the Eye of Sion through the weird hologram thing.
And I think, personally, this comes down to primarily Shin. I think he stands how he does out of protection for her. So for that ^ scene? He’s just standing, waiting. No one to protect.
Tumblr media
Then this scene. They’re not around anyone. We see Morgan’s ship flying away and I guess, til Thrawn got there, the Great Mothers just dipped for a while?? Either way, they’re alone. They’re comfortable. Shin’s tone is borderline teasing sometimes. They both smile and have a good conversation. And still, in the comfort of each other, his hand is still there. A scene where he could drop his guard and relax a little bit, he still doesn’t. Comfortable stance? Sure. They’re on a strange, dangerous planet with people they both don’t really trust? Also true. She’s his padawan and we’ve seen before how protective he is over her? Yep, that too.
She’s been with him for a long time. He’s protected her for a long time. He’s cared about her for a long time. He’s trained her for a long time. He’s been her father (figure) for a long time. It’s a habit that’s been created through their time together.
And I don’t think he does it because it’s the most comfortable way for him to stand. If it were, I don’t think he’d ever bother standing with his arms out in front of him.
Now, I did say primarily Shin. There are some scenes (really just one lmao) where he does it with Morgan when Shin is not around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though, in the second one here, he does immediately take his hand off and hold them out in front of him because Morgan is leaving and he’s staying to wait for Ahsoka. No one to protect.
Do I think he stands like this to have his saber ready in an instant if Shin is in trouble? Absolutely. Do I also think that, in the scenes where he stands like this with Morgan, it is also used to protect Morgan (albeit maybe a little selfishly) because Peridea is Baylan’s goal and she is needed to make sure that he gets there? Yea, probably.
So. A day or two after watching the finale, I was thinking about Baylan’s last scene (as you do). I didn’t have the scene pulled up, but I remember thinking, “Wait, did he have his hand resting on his saber?” For a few days. I didn’t open my computer to even check (brain and life ynow the vibes) whether he did or not, so I just kind of daydreamed in ignorance thinking that his hand wasn’t resting on it.
For those few days, that thought had me going. If that was a habit he’d built up for years because I won’t lose another padawan (dphc willing), then. mmm yea that had me a bit sad. A habit he built up to protect Shin at all costs. To not risk anything for her life. To keep yet another dead child from haunting every decision he makes. To just not lose someone else. Furthermore, a habit like that is going to be difficult to break. If the jump from Ahsoka and Sabine settling down with the Noti was a few weeks from Baylan standing on the Father’s hand, I could maybe see him losing the habit. Shin isn’t there with him, so what’s there to protect?
But if the scenes are only a matter of a few days apart, then I’d think he’d still have that habit.
And whether it was a few days or a few weeks, he still does it.
Tumblr media
As he walks up, which isn’t always the case with scenes where he walks (the scenes where he does walk with his hand on his saber are around Shin), his arm is at his side.
Tumblr media
This shot, you can see the hint of metal at the top of his saber. Usually, if his hand were there, you would see all of his fingers by now.
Tumblr media
But then, there’s his final shot. Much like the third screenshot in this post, his cloak is covering his arms and it’s slightly hard to tell. And even with his new and gorgeously improved cloak with what I can only imagine is Howler skin, you can still see how the position of his arm affects how his cloak sits around it. Even easier than that, you can see the crook of his elbow and just the fact that his arm is bent.
That means the habit is still there. He’s still doing it without thinking. Whether it took him three days or three weeks to find the statues of the Ones, the habit is still there. That need, that part of him that spent year after year after year protecting Shin is still prominent, even with her gone. Even though they’ve parted. Even though he put distance between them, that need, that inclination to protect is still there.
Maybe it’s because it’s a dangerous planet. Maybe it’s because he’s had to kill a lot of things to get there. Maybe it comes from his determination to stay alive and to find the beginning he so desperately wants.
But… I honestly think it is the part of him that is still holding on to Shin with a vice, white-knuckle grip.

SPOILERS FOR AHSOKA EPISODE FOUR
OH MY GOSH THAT EPISODE WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. I haven’t really posted anything like this in the past and don’t know if I will in the future but omfg I can’t and I have no one to talk to about it rn.
First off SABINE WTF. I’m very interested to see what’s gonna happen with her surrounded by the people supposed to be her enemies while searching for Ezra. Girl does not know how to make a good decision. And what was that about her family dying and Baylan sayings it’s Ahsoka’s fault? I need to know more.
Both lightsaber fights were AMAZING. I’m not counting the one with Ahsoka and the inquisitor cause she completely destroyed them. Ahsoka and Baylan seemed very evenly matched. And Shin and Sabine’s rematch❤️❤️
Hera is actually the best and no one can change my mind. “Once a rebel, always a rebel”
AND ANAKIN FREAKING SKYWALKER???? I freaked out I love seeing him back talking to Ahsoka. I can’t wait to see what happens and wish we didn’t have to wait another week :(

To me Baylan and Shin is Iroh and Azula in Au...kind of. 🤷‍♀️
i think Shin wishes she was less of a wet cat and more of a “i will set the world on fire to warm my hands and they’re not even cold.”
azula is terrifying and while i think Shin is certainly frightening i also (delusional) am hoping for more of a Zuko arc with her. redemption i guess but more importantly realising that just because Baylan saved her (probably from being hunted by Inquisitors or, worse, turned into one) doesn’t mean she has to tie all her lifelines to his cause.
i know we joke about Shin being 👁️👁️ confused.com about everything but really!!! i think she believes in Baylan, and she believes in having somewhere to belong. she’s an arrow and she goes where momentum takes her but… i’m so struck by how she fights Sabine on Lothal.
it’s a dance. she stands there, waiting, and she doesn’t do it out of malice but because she’s curious. there’s no reason to think that Shin has ever met another girl like her. she’s been trained to fight, honed into a weapon, flinging herself at problems. she’s a cutting edge but in that fight she’s holding back. she’s playing until she forgets herself and sheathes her sword in Sabine’s body.
it has that “i like you but i don’t know how to like you.” so instead, Murder
Sabine is always defending and Shin is just testing her, taunting her, saying better better i’m better (i’m enough). she sidesteps that green lightsaber, totally unafraid of its bite, and in that sense i think she’s like Zuko. she’s just… looking for something to make her feel whole and then she sees Sabine and here’s another person who feels what she feels, right?
but she doesn’t. i think that’s half the vehemence of “you have no power.” there’s a hint of betrayal in it, of Shin’s horrible hope that she might have found a person who could understand her.
i think what we’ve seen of her is… so interesting because the ONLY agency she has shown is her fascination, her anger, her fury and helpless attraction to Sabine. that little smirk at the start of their second duel, the way she seems to lose every iota of her composure as soon as she sets her blade alight. it’s so rich and i think there’s a so MUCH to Shin that we can’t see yet.
i think she’s just reaching out with the Force and aggrieved at the silence she finds in Sabine but also… fascinated by this girl she cannot read, cannot predict. i mean… look at how she reacted to her, Force choking her when it was pretty obvious she posed little threat to Baylan. that was frustration and fear and silence, not her being pointlessly cruel. she’s burning up like she’s ice and Sabine is magnesium.
and i think Shin will fall for that. for the loud colours and the lightning to her fire that Sabine has become.

People accusing Shin of having no personality/characterization to dunk on her is so annoying... First of all, it's totally fine and normal to like a Star Wars character who hasn't gotten a canon personality yet (i.e. Darth Maul in Phantom Menace) based on their design / story / performance / vibes. It's normal for mysterious characters to exist, and it's normal for people to like those characters. But we do actually already know some cool stuff about Shin; she does have A Characterization and A Story even when the show is holding back with her.
I agree that for now there are many unknowns about her, and fans are having to speculate about her while we wait for the show to fill in the gaps and give us canon answers. (I agree that it would be nice to know more of what the showrunners undoubtably know but have kept hidden so far, like any information about her backstory at all. I am sure they are planning to explore more backstory in the next season, but it's a huge shame just bc Ray Stevenson can no longer be part of that exploration :( )
However, the information we do have about her is totally sufficient to make her cool and interesting. Imo.
"Baylan Skoll's feral, ruthless apprentice, who has a padawan braid, who is dark side-y enough that she seems eager for violence but still asks 'like me?' when Baylan is talking about Ezra being a Jedi." like yeah sorry that's all I need I'm sold! Sorry!
Seeing her make this facial expression before her first duel/encounter ever with another padawan:
Tumblr media
Is enough for me! That's already something really interesting to work with! Or the dynamic between her and Baylan in this specific moment
Tumblr media
For one moment he just suddenly beams fondness/pride at her and she seems so intense and excited when she bows back, as she goes off to try to murder some people. Then she gets so visibly upset later when Sabine tells Ahsoka to go get the map, thwarting the assignment she was given here of holding off the both of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's an exciting and interesting master-padawan dynamic! I am going to be interested in Baylan Skoll's padawan who has this dynamic with Baylan Skoll as a foil to Ahsoka's relationship with Anakin and u Cannot Stop Me.
Tumblr media
Sometimes I like to look at an actor's performance and observe what they seem to be feeling. Sometimes I like to wonder about things that have not yet been revealed to the audience, I find that an interesting experience... I am sorry that u cannot appreciate her Sublime & Unique Vibes....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way she acts when she fights is part of her characterization! As with everyone in this show, her fighting style is designed and choreographed to be expressive of her character. The way she moves is expressive. She's so aggressive and excited and alive when she fights. That's information about who she is! It's fun information!
Tumblr media
Look at this. Look at how she reacts when Baylan tells her to go up against Ahsoka Tano's ex-apprentice.
I admit I cannot tell u with 100% certainty what she is canonically feeling in this moment, but whatever it is she is feeling it SO INTENSELY. The fact that she reacts like this is interesting information about her character, bc every single conceivable explanation for why she is emoting this way is interesting and cool!
She seems kinda excited. She seems to find it significant and momentous. That's fun. We don't know why she feels this way, but it's too late she is already interesting sorry
Tumblr media
Sorry for observing the facial expressions that a character makes and learning things about them that way
It's annoying that the show hasn't taken the time to reveal more things about her yet I agree but why are you being mean 2 her... Having mysterious characters is normal Star Wars procedure :/
Like yes we all know this is not Andor, the writing is not always brimming with deft characterization, that's a shame, but that doesn't mean the show hasn't given us a lot of interesting canon building blocks to work with.
Tumblr media
tl:dr this is a skill issue and I love her very much
It's honestly kind of funny coming from the silmarillion fandom... some people simply know how to appreciate cool and unique characters based on limited information.

Now is the Time (For You and I to Cuddle Close Together) - a Wolfwren fanfiction
A/N: Hello everyone! Happy Halloween! To celebrate my favorite holiday I have posted a wolfwren one-shot. You will find an extract below and if you want to read the whole thing, the link will be at the end!
The old Sedan pulled up into the school’s parking lot and Baylan cut the engine. Shin could hear the music booming from the gymnasium already, some pop song she couldn’t stand. She kept her gaze on her lap and made no move to get out.
“Just for an hour,” Baylan said. “If you don’t like it then call me and I’ll come to pick you up in an hour. Otherwise, you can stay for as long as you want.”
Shin didn’t move. A couple of monsters walked past the car and despite their costume, she recognized them as football players. She wanted nothing to do with them, or anyone at this stupid school party anyway.
“Competitions are coming up,” she said. “I should be at home training. Sabine is…”
Baylan turned as best he could in his seat to look at her.
“You’ll train tomorrow. Today you get to be a normal teenager. I’m sure Sabine Wren takes time off training every once in a while. Now come on, get out there before I decide to humiliate you by stepping out of the car.”
Shin rolled her eyes but unbuckled her seatbelt. She opened the car door but before she could step out, Baylan called her back.
“Don’t forget your mask.”
From the backseat, he grabbed a mask and handed it to her. It was a wolf mask, gray and metallic, with a snout extending over the nose and ears at the top of the head. Shin had not chosen her costume, not really. When Baylan had told her what she wanted to be for Halloween, she had dismissingly said a wolf. Now it was coming back to bite her.
She tied the mask behind her head. She had tied her platinum hair up into a bun, uncovering the short, shaved underside. The mask’s strap sat just at the edge of the undercut and immediately began to itch.
“One hour,” she said.
“Or more. Depends how much you’re enjoying yourself.”
She rolled her eyes again and slammed the car door shut. Baylan took that as his signal to leave. He turned on the engine and drove off slowly, mindful of the other students walking through the parking lot in the direction of the gymnasium. Shin was almost tempted to stay out here for an hour, sit on a bench and wait for the time to pass. However, the night was colder than she was ready for. She wore a gray checkered shirt and her usual black trousers. Already smoke escaped her nose as she breathed. Though she would rather be anywhere but there, she hurried to the party.

Maybe during Ezra and Sabine's fight with Shin in the AU --- that moment when she Force pushes him into a pod... the Wolfwalker comes out! Then we get an entire wolf fight between the three! Though Ezra might have a ton of questions for Sabine XD
Ezra: Hold up! She's a wolfwalker, too?!
Sabine: Okay, I may or may not have bit her--- it was self-defense, damnit!!
On today's episode of Dammit Sabine lmao
Actually so glad Shin and Baylan are in the game now bc that means someday I do get to draw a wolf fight scene, that's gonna be fun! I doubt I'll incorporate that particular scene from Ahsoka but it will happen!
Shin would scamper off the moment Ezra transformed though, he's more than twice her size. One of these days I really ought to make a size reference chart actually.
Poor Sabine is gonna be so tired of being the littlest wolf. She is so done with these Jedi wolves 2 to 5 times her size. She can't wait to go home to beat up Zeb and roughhouse with Jacen.
Her and Shin will be playfighting (once they eventually win her over) but Shin is a lot bigger and does not care about playing nice. She'll just beat up Sabine until she finally yelps and Ezra has to come rescue her. Ezra’s like haha I'm the big sibling now. Loser. (For a while he's a bit protective of Sabine whenever Shin’s around after he found out about the stabbing lol)

Ahsoka s1 ep6
Love how they reminded us of the fact that there are "former imperials working at every level in the new republic" ain't no way they're getting back to the normal galaxy this episode? like bro, dw I didn't forget the New Republic kinda sucks 😂
Deadass thought Ahsoka was gonna spill on her world between worlds experience 💀
Hm, Ahsoka seeing Sabine giving the enemy the map as a fault of her own shortcomings as a teacher when it shows that she really was Anakin's padawan.
Urging Sabine to do what's right and putting feelings aside, while being unable to do that herself and fearing what could happen because of it..... this coming after the episode where Anakin's legacy and Ahsoka's unease with it was explored is 😭😭
Though it is throwing me off that she's still saying the same stuff as before her epithany last episode?
I understand it would be too easy if those fears caused by Anakin's betrayal would be healed after one episode and they probably wanna save that moment for a more exciting scene than her and Huyang sitting in the mouth of a space whale. But it'd have been better if Ahsoka showed that she has progressed in this regard?
I cannot believe they did the cheesiest thing and actually had Huyang say the thing.
This show so corny I love it
Pour one out for the Wolfren people, there was a prison on board lmao
God I hope he keeps his promise, he's a more interesting dark sider if he does
Something about them being so far from civilisation is actually creeping me out....
They were in hyperspace for all of the events of last episode, probably longer, that distance between galaxies is incomprehensible.
If anyone gets stranded or hurt they'd be so far away from help, the typical "fleet arrives to the rescue" at the last second can't happen now.
I don't think it's ever sunk in for me how hopeless Ezra must've felt being stranded here
A signal?!? Really??? That was fast lol
You know, for a literal different galaxy, I'd have expected this planet to look funkier.
Even Dathomir looked more mythical than this
I guess I take back all that dreadful pondering about being stranded far from home in a deserted galaxy cause apparantly there are fucking people living here
ok sure
Poor Sabine, not Jedi enough for Huyang, too Jedi for them witches
I swear to god if they show us another iteration of order 66
I don't think I've ever commented on Shin and Baylan's designs but I love how they almost have a game of thrones fantasy knight vibe about them. Makes sense as this convo suggests they seek glory from the past.
Props to Kevin Kiner, the music is stealing Thrawn's intro scene
Wild guess Im throwing out there, Enoch is Ezra but like ... brainwashed as Savage was
Either that or he is deep undercover as one of those stormtroopers, that def sounds like something he'd do
Bro why there so much familiar kind of typical star wars life on this DIFFERENT galaxy?? 💀
OH HE JUST A BIG LIL PUPPER 🥺🥺
Damn, last episode really felt like clone wars in style and this one really feels like rebels lmao
Shin self identifying as a trained Jedi? Interesting.
Her doubting what Baylan is saying?
Oh?
I cannot wait for Baylan "destroy the past" Skoll to face off against Ahsoka "recently started healing from the wounds of the past" Tano again. I can practically feel the emotional culmination of this show and Ahsoka's character concluding
Oh these creatures are gonna get fridged so bad aren't they?
Ah shucks my wild angsty guess disproven so quickly
Tho Ezra just chilling with a bunch of lil creatures is also very him
They can sense Ahsoka approaching in the whale?¿?¿? That sure is convenient for them
Lmaoooooo Morgan is so angry she's like "sOMEONE FUCKIN KILL THIS DAMN WOMAN ALREADY IVE HAD IT
👏 UP 👏 TO 👏 HERE 👏
WITH HER IMMORTAL BS"
Thrawn upon learning Ahsoka's master was Anakin: "oh, psssht, I know what buttons to push, easy"

The difference between Ahsoka and Baylan’s fights though. The one on Seatos and the one on Peridea, the two sides of the gateway. The way that they’ve both come to such different places, literally, yes, but mentally, spiritually. The way instead of attacking first, this time Ahsoka waits, and allows Baylan to make the first move. The way that in both, Baylan stands between Ahsoka and something she needs to reach, but this time, she’s calm and confident, and the cracks he used to get at her last time are at long last healed. Meanwhile Baylan, while still presenting his cool and unfazed veneer, is conflicted, torn, desperate to reach his goal, his calling, but having only just separated from his padawan, and still hovering, waiting. And while Ahsoka again doesn’t win the fight, per se, this time, she meets it with a calm and cocky grin. “Perhaps, I don’t have to.”
