Not every character should be redeemed
I can't believe that I waste such a good title on a sleep deprived Miraculous discourse, I hold you guys accountable for that
So, again I am, talking about Chloé Bourgeois, and about that "is she redeemable or not" bullshit
Please stay with me on that one if I kill one hour of bad sleep for this post and it makes no note ill cry (like if you desagree with me you even have the permission to insulte me idc i need human interaction)
So apparently Thomas Astruc said something about Chloé "not being redeemable" and that makes people upset, because apparently she deserve a redemption bc there is good in her and she has bad parents
But guys it was never about her deserving or not a redemption, or not even about if it makes sense or not for her character to have a redemption, it's about weither or not it is a good story to tell
Characters are not people, they're tools to tell a story, and weither we want it or not, weither we agree or not, Chloé's story is about abusive behavior and what to do when you face them
She'll probably never be redeemed not because the creator doesn't like her but because that's not what her story is about
And maybe you don't agree with that, maybe you believe character have rights and that they deserve shits, maybe you believe a good or better life for a fictionnal character is more important than the good of the story and it's lessons the but that doesn't seem to be the belief of the creator and you should respect that
And yeah, not every character have to be redeemed
Not only Real Bad Guys like Gabriel, because redemption isn't only about weither or not you merit to be forgiven but also about weither or not you are able to change
I'm not saying that Chloé could never change, that she's rotten to core or whatever, I'm saying that in the state she's currently she can't, and that we need to accept that
You know there are shows that do great redemption/not redemption arc
To name a few, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts have (at least) one exemple of a bad guy being redeemed and one exemple of a bad guy not being redeemed (as well as a bunch of people who are not bad and even good but ending up doing shitty things because that what happen when there is a war). Infinity Train also contains two exemples of people not redeemable, and for one of those it's especially painful to watch because they're specifically show to be too broken to be saved
(it worth saying that for all those character there were people trying to help them to be become better, and that all of them has reasons to do what they did (not necessary good ones, but reasons))
And those are actually good writting! Some of the characters could be redeemed, some couldn't, and that was never about weither or not they desserved to be redeemed but weither or not they could (nah because, objectively? none of them was responsable for their situation, they just all had the shittiest life, and for some of them it was just too much)
-
What I'm saying at the end is that shitty things happening to a character doesn't mean that their creator hate them, it doesn't mean that the story is badly written, it's just how stories are
If Chloé is not redeemed it's because that's the story the writers want to tell
(and because, really, it makes more sense for her to not be redeemed than to be)(it's about realism too for hell and heaven sake)
#miraculous#chloe bourgeois#one day ill make an actual post about why i don't believe chloe can or should be redeemed in the main show#instead of just talking about it#but you know i want to do it properly with pictures and an actual construction and like enough sleep#and really it's not about me not liking chloe#while reading those discours and all i end up kinda liking her actually#and i would even like to see a redemption arc for her#maybe i would even write a fic about it myself you never know#(probably not tho because i am unable to actually do stuff)#(beside sleep deprived posts i mean)#OH YEAH AND ALSO I STRONGLY RECOMMEND KIPO AND INFINITY TRAIN#kipo is a very colorful post apo world with incredible soundtracks#infinity train is about people on a big magical train but like please please be very careful if you wanna watch it idk if it's for kids#like really i can't decide if it's an adult serie with a 'kid show' graphic style or an actual kid show that just take kids seriously#there is no blood in it but it's still (very) violent sometime (especially morally violent) and has heavy subjects#like traumas and grief and abuse and trauma again and family drama and mental health and fucking trauma again and cult stuff and murder#but it's really good#and while it's about all that heavy stuff it's also about learning to take care of yourself#and there are talking dogs#and a talking cat#uh what was this post about again?#ah yes chloe#yeah whatever that's pro chloe weither you like it or not
