PokeV3 AU – Girls!
Kaede
Normal Type
Musical theme
She's a status effect master for sure and the queen of double battles because her support is really great.
She's a famous performer but can be roped into an adventure if you ask nicely enough + she's not busy + you're her friend, but only really short ones because she wants to keep practicing.
She's really good at staying calm in serious/dangerous encounters.
Kirumi
Psychic Type
Her theme is pokemon that are elegant
Kirumi is a maid in a certain mansion that helps people in trouble when she can.
Goes out when shes off the clock and looks for wild pokemon that have fainted. Really good friends with the nurse at the nearby poke center because she brings them hurt pokemon all the time.
Mansion owner is really nice and so he asks Kirumi to help trainers that have been defeated by the people in the mansion by healing their pokemon.
Angie
Water Type
Theme this time is tropical pokemon she could find in the wild, with the exception of golduck who isn't really tropical but whatever.
Angie isn't really a trainer so much as she just hangs out with wild pokemon. Doesn't like to fight and would rather just chill, but she has sneaky ways of making people leave her and the pokemon alone.
She's like N so she can talk to pokemon but doesn't like to catch them, if they come to her and help her it's fine though
Her team doesn't have any pokeballs, these are just the ones that follow her around the most.
Tenko
Fighting Type
Her theme was cute pokemon but then they all evolved. She still loves them though!
When she was younger she tried to pick out cute ones so that more girls will talk to her and because she likes cute things too. The only exception is throh, which she caught because it reminded her of the people at her dojo.
Tenko is a dojo girl with a black belt.
Always helps people in trouble and is VERY enthusiastic about training people.
Tenko doesn't hate men in this AU because she's been hanging out with all the men in the dojo since she was little, but she has been warned against this universe's antagonist team and evil doers so I imagine she wouldnt like or trust Maki much after she found out her true job.
Shes really good friends with everyone in the dojo and has practically become everyone's little sister or niece.
Unofficially adopted by the master of the dojo because her parents are rich and lavish people that sent her away to the dojo because they couldnt get her to act like a proper lady and havent written her any letters or checked up on her since.
The dojo master doesn't say anything about it to Tenko because he thinks she still doesnt know. She figured it out a little while ago and was pretty down about it, but considers the dojo to be her family now and has accepted it. (found family trope time fuck yeah)
Conflicted about traveling because she doesnt want to leave the dojo behind, but she also wants to travel with her friends. Dojo master would encourage her to leave if she wanted and if he knew he could trust the people she was leaving with. Tenko never thought about leaving until she was asked, and she was surprised by how much she liked the idea.
Less drooly, more enthusiastic. She's trying really hard to learn to regulate her emotions and impulsiveness!!!! Its not working out so well!!!!
Miu
Electric Type
Her theme is pokemon that kinda look man made. The exceptions being the plusle and minun she caught as a kid. They were her first pokemon!
The Meta reason as to why she has them is because Miu is said to have an innocent side to her, and bunnies strike me as innocent. Them being her first pokemon means that she used to be open with her innocent side, but how she covers it up with her genius persona, which is why she has has a different theme now.
Miu is an inventor that works for a certain company and is damn good at what she does. Lots of her inventions are on the market in this AU. She's made different types pokeballs, sensors for finding pokemon, etc.
Lowkey really cherishes her friendship with Kiibo.
Tsumugi
Normal Type with the exception of her Cosplay Pikachu, which is a real thing in the canon pokemon universe for some reason.
All of her pokemon fit the theme of changing whether through branch evolutions, moves like transformation, weather changes, seasons, etc.
Tsumugi is a contest girl for sure and is super famous for it. She doesn't really have much of a schedule for it, she kind of just shows up to ones she wants.
She travels a lot but doesn't really like exploring or fighting. The reason she travels is because she's really into costume design and pokemon fashion.
The reason she enters competitions in the first place is because it's a great chance to put her pokemon in costumes she's made and to see other original costumes to help her get inspiration. Doesn't care if she wins or loses, she just wants to get out of her creative funk.
After she's done traveling and winning competitions she'll probably move on to clothing design, but that's way, wayyyy into the future.
Himiko
Fairy Type
Only has Mime Jr. and nothing else.
Himiko is a magician and that's quite literally it.
She hates battling because she can't handle the stress and prefers to stick to what she knows (which is also why she only has one pokemon).
She wouldn't travel outside of what's required of a performer. In the future I imagine she would retire in her home town and entertain the little kids there with small shows.
Wants a hattrem so fucking badly but if she ever went near one it would probably beat the shit out of her because they don't like strong emotions.
Her Mime Jr. was a gift from her teacher.
Maki
Dark Type
Her theme is anything that looks cold/mean and has red eyes.
Maki is part of the antagonist team. They kill elite trainers and steal their pokemon. They usually get jobs because of 2 reasons: 1. someone was jealous of the trainer and wanted to take their place even if they had to hire assassins to do it or 2. someone wanted strong pokemon but didnt want to train them and is completely fine with a kidnapped team.
Her greninja was her first pokemon and her bisharp isn't actually hers, it was a "gift". It was trained to watch her and make sure she didnt betray the organization because bisharp canonly hate traitors.
Maki doesn't use pokemon she's stolen –even though she's allowed to to a degree– as a part of her own personal code, so she just hands them over to her boss.
She goes undercover as pokemon day care worker and uses that facility to harbor the pokemon she's stolen until her boss sends people to pick them up.
#i hope this post stays out of the p0k3m0n tags but who knows at this point tumblr is so broken#PokeV3 AU#if some of the teams look janky its because the thing i use to make teams doesnt include the newest game so i had to add some by hand

The three teens were now successfully off on their adventure, and conversing amongst one another. "Alexis. Was everything okay, back at the pokemon center?" Hera asked as the three walked.
"Hm? Oh uh, yeah. My brain got overwhelmed with all of the lights, sounds, and my eyes had been hurting." Alexis admitted, adjusting her sunglasses.
"Ah. Gotcha. I experience it occasionally, although rarely." Hera nodded in understanding. "So. I'm thinking that, when we get to Nightvale city, My gran will want to have dinner with me one last time. And because shes a total sweetheart, You two can stay for dinner too." Hera spoke, slipping her hands into her jacket pockets. "So, I know Miranda's kind of a tough gym leader. Her gym is certainly eccentric, if I remember some of her battles that are televised. Three floors, each one works with a different weather effect. Remind me what they are, Lucius?"
"Sandstorm for the first floor, Hail for the second, and Sunny day for the third. The top floor, where shes located, is actually the rooftop of the weather facility in Jupiter city. It almost always rains in that city, as well. So when we head that direction, we'll wanna have our umbrella's to be easy to access." Lucius explained.
Alexis nodded, looking up from her pokedex. "I'm reading over Gible's pokedex entry, which also seems to list the ability for the pokemon, and what it does. Sand veil ups evasion in a sandstorm." She spoke. "Meaning that gible will likely be highly useful for the first floor, in my case." She spoke.
"Correct. The ability listing feature was of Professor Morgan's own design, if you're curious. Also. We should use this route, and the cave, to train our partners." Lucius spoke.
"Cave?" Hera asked.
"No. We're not going near the cave on the other path." Alexis spoke, her tone seeming to shift.
"There's a hidden cave nearby, that has pokemon that are rare elsewhere on this island." Lucius elaborated.
"Oh, okay. Sorry for my tone shift." Alexis spoke.
"All good. Yeah. That other cave, on the other path. It creeps everyone out, so mom made it illegal to go near there, at least for our towns residents." He explained, taking a pokeball out and releasing beldum. "Beldum will be harder to train, as it only learns one move until it evolves, into metang. Meaning I should get the jump on training it first, while still training Chomp, my main partner." Lucius spoke. He was going to say something, but got cut off by a girl getting his attention.
"Hey! Wanna battle? I just got a new pokemon, and wanna test it out." The girl spoke.
"You can take her on Lucius." Hera spoke, gesturing for him to go on. "Alexis and I can watch, or go train on wild pokemon."
"Y-yeah. Let's go train on wild Pokemon. Catch up with us after, lucius." Alexis spoke.
3 hard hours of training later, and one sudden thunderstorm that lasted 20 minutes
Alexis, Lucius, and Hera met back up in a Clearing in the Route. Their pokemon, had all gotten stronger.
"Anyone else hungry, or just me?" Alexis asked, as her stomach growled rather loudly. "Just realized I hadn't eaten yet."
"Well. We're close to my Gran's house, and closer to Nightvale City. It's about Lunch time at this point. We can go get lunch at a cafe, then take a few hours to relax before going to my Grandma's for the night." Hera offered.
"I got plenty of Money from the trainers I beat, meaning I can pay for lunch." Lucius nodded.
"Yeah. Let's get healed up at the pokemon center, then go get lunch. It's about another six hours or so till dinnertime, so we have plenty of time to kill at like an arcade or something. The one in Nightvale is moderately large. We can do some arcade games, if we havent blown all of our money by lunch." Hera nodded.
"What's an arcade?" Alexis questioned, not realizing she said it out loud.
"Basically, a place where you can pay money to earn tokens and play games. My dad used to own the one in nightvale city, before he sold it to the Mayor of Nightvale after meeting my mom when she joined him for a game of DDR, or rather. Dance, Dance, Revolution." Hera explained without missing a beat, as they headed toward the entrance of Nightvale city.
Once the three arrived in Nightvale city, Alexis's mouth dropped. This was one of the largest places she'd ever seen. (Not that she remembers anywhere larger.) "Woah. It's... massive." Alexis spoke, blinking slightly.
"There are bigger cities. Heck. The Island where we get our fifth gym badge, the entire place is all the city." Hera spoke.
"Ew. Sounds gross." Alexis reflexively spoke.
"Yeah. I personally enjoy places that have variety to them. I've heard Twilight Island is like a maze." Lucius spoke, as they walked into the pokemon center.
"Hi! Welcome to the pokemon center. Let me know if I can do anything for you, please." The Nurse spoke as she walked out from one of the back Rooms.
"Hi! I was wondering if our pokemon could get a quick heal." Lucius spoke.
"Can do! Just put the pokeballs on the tray here, and Blissey can take care of them for you." The nurse spoke as she put the tray on the counter in front of her.
Alexis put her pokeballs in top slots, although she was somewhat hesitant to.
Lucius put his in the middle, seeming a bit relaxed.
Hera put hers in the bottom slots.
"Blissey will bring you your pokeballs personally, after healing your pokemon. She can heal them through their pokeballs, so dont worry about her getting them mixed up. Feel free to have a seat." The nurse spoke, before turning to follow blissey to the back to work on something.
The three teens sat down, and began to converse among each other. "So. Since we're going to be traveling with each other for the foreseeable future. I guess we should get to know one another." Hera spoke, taking her hat off. "Lucius, pass me a drink?" She asked. "Gotta take my meds."
"Ah, yeah, of course." Lucius spoke as he opened his bag, and passed her a water bottle.
"Well... guess the meowth's gotta come out of the bag. I don't remember much of anything. I only know my name." Alexis spoke, rather quietly. She wasn't sure if the two would still be friends with her.
"That's quite okay." Hera spoke, as she took a couple of bottles out of her jacket, and opened the bottles. "We're not gonna look at you any differently, Alexis. Right, Lucius?" She asked, before taking her medication. Her tone had an essence of "Answer correctly, or I'm gonna smack you." to it.
"Yeah, of course." Lucius nodded.
Alexis let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks. I was feeling freaked out, and was trying to figure out how I should explain it." She spoke. "I dont even know where I'm from."
"Gotcha." Hera nodded. "Well, maybe we can make getting your memories back a side endeavor in our journey." She offered, as Blissey came up to their table, with their tray of pokeballs in hand.
"Thank's blissey." Lucius spoke, as the three sorted their pokeballs back among themselves.
"So yeah. We'll try our best to get your memories back." Hera nodded, her sunshine personality sort of showing in the instance.
Lucius nodded in agreement. "Yeah." He nodded. "So. Now that our teams are all healed up, where are we going first?" He asked as he stood up, hooking his pokeballs back onto his belt loop.
"Hm. Food and drink sound good?" Hera asked as she stood up, gesturing for Alexis to follow.
Alexis nodded. "Yeah, sounds fine to me." She spoke as she stood, and followed the others out.
Once the three were outside, Hera opened her map. "Now. If I recall correctly, theres a really good little cafe that doubles as a burger place, just up the street from here." Hera spoke. "I don't know about burgers myself, but I could definitely go for a Chocolate moomoo milkshake and fries." She spoke, as she put her map away, and began to walk right from the pokemon center entry.
Lucius and Alexis exchanged glances, and followed after Hera, who was already a good two feet away.
After a good Twenty minutes of walking, the trio arrived at a rather large building. "Used to come here all the time after school. Don't remember why I stopped." Hera spoke, grabbing the door and opening it.
Alexis and lucius followed her in, exchanging a look as they got greeted. "Hey there, welcome to Cathy's. Today we've got a deal on burger's and shakes. Buy ten dollars worth and get a third set free." The cashier spoke.
"You two get whatever you want, I'll just get a large thing of fries and a chocolate shake." Hera spoke, as she pulled out her wallet to start counting how much money she'd need to set aside for their meal.
After time passed, and the three sat down after ordering their food, a pair of women walked into the Café, looking no older then Hera. The most eye-catching feature the women had among the two of them was the orange haired girl having a mechanical arm. It wasn't audible what the two had ordered, but it didn't seem overly complicated, as it was done before the trio's meal.
The black haired girl who had it tied back and to the side walked up. "Hey, there's not a whole lot of places left to sit. Do you three care if we join you?" She asked. She adjusted her glasses, as she waited for an answer from one of them.
"Of course! We were just stopping in to get lunch ourselves. We just started our own adventure and all." Hera spoke, seeming a little sheepish.
"Ah, yeah. I remember those times." The orange haired girl spoke. "I think you and I started at the same time, right, rey?" She asked her companion.
"Yes, we did. Now, apologies, but we've seemed to have forgotten our manners. I'm Reyna, and this one here is Cassidy." Reyna spoke, nodding slightly.
Hera nodded. "The guy getting our food is Lucius, I'm hera, and I'll let her introduce herself."
"I'm Alexis." Alexis spoke, nodding gently to the two taller girls.
The two girls who had joined them nodded. "Nice to meet you too. You seem a little young to just be starting your adventure." Reyna noted.
"As much as I wish I were younger, I'm glad to be Seventeen." Hera laughed a little. "Means I dont have to see my parents again." She spoke lightly.
Lucius set their tray down on the table. "Hera, who are these two?" Lucius asked as he sorted their stuff among themselves.
"Cassidy and Reyna. They asked to sit with us as there isn't anywhere else that they can really sit." Hera explained.
"Ah. Nice to meet you." Lucius spoke, as he sat down.
Cassidy nodded. "Mind if I ask who you guys chose as starters? I've heard interesting things about this Region's starter selection." She spoke.
"Well. This year was a bit different, and the professor gave us each two starter pokemon." Hera explained.
"Interesting." Reyna noted, writing it down in her notebook after taking a sip from her drink.
"I chose this Region's variant of Piplup, and Larvitar. I'll let these two answer the question themselves." Hera spoke before digging into her food.
"Region's totodile variant, and gible." Alexis quietly spoke after swallowing the bite she had been chewing on. It was clear that she had something on her mind, but nobody could be entirely sure what it was she was thinking about.
"Cyndaquil Variant and Beldum." Lucius nodded.
"Interesting. And what are the types of your regional variants?" Reyna asked, glancing up from her writing.
"Totodile is dark and fairy, according to my pokedex." Alexis nodded.
"Cyndaquil is an Ice and Dragon type here." Lucius spoke.
"And Piplup is just a ghost type." Hera spoke, after swallowing the food she had in her mouth.
"Fascinating. We came to the region on business, mostly because someone called us here for said business." Reyna spoke.
"She still won't tell me, for whatever reason." Cassidy spoke, shrugging lightly as she stretched her legs out.
"Because if I do, you won't shut up about it. You'll find out in about a month's time. We mostly came a month early to get a lay of the region." Reyna spoke.
"Oh. Okay." Cassidy spoke. "Think we may try the gym challenge. Might be worth it after all, now that we're here. Y'know babe?"
"Yeah. Gives us an idea on how tough some of the trainers in this region are." Reyna nodded, as she looked up from her notepad.
"Ah. About that. Nobody's been able to complete the gym challenge in two years at this point." Lucius explained.
"That's a surprise." Cassidy spoke. "Why?"
"The eighth gym leader, Minerva, disappeared two years ago. Nobody knows where she went." Lucius explained, after taking a sip of his drink.
"Fascinating." Cassidy spoke.
Reyna simply nodded, marking something down in her notepad. "Seems interesting. I guess that's why Victory road looked untraversed?" She questioned.
"Yeah. And the league officials have been unable to hire a new leader to replace her, as her gym is sealed shut." Lucius nodded again.
"Oh, interesting." Reyna nodded. "I need to step outside for a moment, make a couple of Phone calls." Reyna spoke, standing up and stepping away from the table.
"Everything okay, babe?" Cassidy asked.
"Yeah. Just gotta make a couple calls correlating to our work here." Reyna nodded, reassuring her girlfriend before she headed outside.
"So. What's with the arm?" Alexis asked, finally deciding to speak up a little. She gestured vaguely to Cassidy's metal arm, before going back to poke at her food.
"Lost my arm in a fight back home. Reyna built this one for me, when she found me bleeding." Cassidy chuckled lightly, adjusting her hoodie. "What sparked the question?"
"It just looks out of place, with the rest of your attire." Hera elaborated, since Alexis had her mouth full.
"Ah, yeah. Had to unscrew it to get through the metal detector to board the boat to get here. That was not a fun experience." Cassidy admitted.
"Yeah, I imagine so." Lucius nodded. "Anyone wanna battle? Just all friendly like?" The teen asked, cleaning up the wrappers from all of their food. "We've still got time to kill."
"Yeah, sure. I'm down." Cassidy spoke, standing up, and collecting her and Reyna's drinks. "I'll meet y'all outside." She spoke as she slipped out.
"So. Those two are eccentric, to say the least." Hera noted as she laughed a little. "You can go battle Cassidy. Think I'm gonna hit the mall with Alexis, if she wants to come along." Hera spoke, as she stood up, finishing her shake.
Alexis nodded, re-wrapping the rest of her burger she still had and stuffing it in her pocket. "I figure we'll meet back up in an hour or two?" Alexis asked, remaining soft-spoken.
Hera nodded. "Here's my number Lucius, in case you need to contact us before we meet at gran's." She spoke, writing her phone number down on the wrapped and passing it to him.
The trio separated on their own paths, to do their own thing for a little while.
Following Alexis and Hera for the next little while. Lucius will pop back in later.
"So, uh. You've been pretty quiet, Alexis." Hera spoke, slipping her hands into her pockets. "Something on your mind?" She asked.
"No, everything's fine. I'm just... I don't know. It feels weird, not being able to remember things. The food was fine, If that's what you're wondering." Alexis spoke, kicking a couple rocks.
"Alright. If you need to talk to someone, you can. Y'know that, right?" Hera spoke, nodding slightly to Alexis. "Also. Is there anything you want, while we're shopping?"
"A cellphone would be nice. I didn't have one, when I woke up in that room." Alexis spoke quietly.
"Alright. Yeah, we can look at those. You can't get most places without one." Hera smiled a bit.
Alexis nodded. "I figured. I've been observing everyone, and it seems like theyve become an intricate part of everyone's lives." She spoke, looking up at her friend.
"Yeah, it's interesting." She spoke, as they walked into the Mall. "Here we are. The Nightvale Mall. I used to come here a lot. Stopped when my friends moved away." Hera shrugged. "I'm thinking we should get you a couple more outfits, because as nice as your current outfit is, it's kind of out of place seeming." Hera explained.
"Yeah. That'll be fine. I'm keeping this jacket though, to go with any outfits we get." Alexis spoke.
"Yeah. The Jacket's fine." Hera spoke, as she and Alexis walked. "Anywhere you wanna go first?" She asked.
Alexis nodded. "Uh... hm. We could go look at the books first. I think having some reading material would be nice." She spoke.
Hera nodded. "Then off to the bookshop it is." She spoke, as she helped Alexis Navigate to the bookstore on the second floor.
The two girls walked into the Bookstore, which was Relatively empty, outside of a cashier and a couple of elderly people sitting down somewhere near the back, in a couple or chairs. "Get whatever strikes your fancy. We've got a budget about Nineteen thousand, to spend here at the mall." Hera spoke.
Alexis nodded. She really didn't have any idea where to start. After all, she didn't even know if she had a favorite genre. After about fifteen minutes of wandering the store, Alexis had picked up a few mystery novels that caught her eye. "Hey Hera. Found a few books that looked interesting."
"Oh?" Hera asked, walking over to Alexis, to see what Alexis had found.
"Yeah. Just a few mystery novels that caught my attention." Alexis spoke. "Think we should probably get the phone next, then save the outfit shopping for last." Alexis nodded as she and Hera went up to the register to pay for the books she picked out.
"Sounds good to me." Hera spoke, keeping her hands in her pockets as the cashier scanned the books, taking out her wallet when it was time.
After Hera paid for the books, Alexis took the bag that the books were put in, and held it in her left hand as the two girls walked out, and headed for the next shop.
After a while of the two shopping, Hera's phone buzzed, with a text from Lucius, asking where the two were.
Hera shot him a text back, stating that they were leaving the mall right as he texted, and were on their way.
The two girls walked through Nightvale city, eventually arriving at a house, with lucius standing outside, and Cassidy having a smoke nearby. "Hey kiddos. Lucius wanted me to come with him after the battles, as he had questions. Now that you two are here, ima dip out. Maybe we'll run into each other some other time." Cassidy spoke, not giving the two time to answer, as she left.
"...that was weird." Hera spoke. "Oh well. She's probably right, that we'll run into her and her girlfriend again." She shrugged, as she walked up the steps to the front door, and unlocked it. "Gran! I'm home!" She called.
"Hey Hera, welcome home!" Hera's grandma called back from the kitchen. "Are your friends with you?" She asked.
"Yeah! Lucius, Alexis. You two, come on in." Hera gestured.
Alexis was the last to enter, and closed the door behind her. "Thank you for having us, I think." She spoke, nodding gently.
"Mhm! I figured I should feed you three before you go off on an adventure around the Islands." Gran spoke, as she was chopping onions.
"Thanks, really." Lucius spoke, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'm making sausage and mac and cheese, with sauteed onions." Her grandmother nodded. "Do any of you wanna help?" She asked.
"Yeah." Alexis spoke. "I may not be of much help, though." She spoke, putting her bags down, and heading to the kitchen.

Yeah, they're definitely dumbing down the newer games. Again, I haven't played Sword and Shield yet, but I haven't heard great things about it either. But wow you can't turn EXP shares off? That's a yikes from me. They're literally spoon feeding you levels it seems. Not that Gen 7 was much better in that regard. I feel like many people will disagree with me on this, but I wasn't a fan of the trials. With a standard team that covers all your bases, you could easily get through all of them. What made Gen 7 stand out, as you said, was the story, but more than that, the characters I would say. Gen 6 sort of missed the mark there. It had potential, but it took itself too seriously without having anything to back up that severity. Gen 6 definitely is when the games became noticeably dumbed down. I think Gen 5 had a pretty good level/exp/difficulty scaling, and then Gen 6 just started feeding you EXP like crazy
Gen 4 was definitely a sweet spot though. HG/SS gives you such an expansive world to play with and so many characters + so much lore, it's hard not to love it. And Diamond/Pearl/Platinum is honestly peak at scaling imo. When you get to Cynthia, your team should realistically be able to take her on with some strategizing, but man, she is FAR from easy.
There’s much again. I talk a lot.
I don’t even know if it’s necessarily dumbing down, since it’s still operating on the same fundamental principles that can make any game easy if you know what to do. I think it’s more an issue of overly simplified. Because all wild Pokemon are around your level, you never have to train. Because the sharp level spike happens in rapid succession with no time to train, you quickly level from rare candies and the EXP candies you stockpiled. The game takes significantly shorter time to beat, but offers less in the way of a developed challenge for most gym battles, and just...isn’t very engaging.
I really hate the trials, I think they’re way worse than gyms in every way. Less interesting in concept, obnoxious boss battles that are less hard and more annoying, because the captains aren’t actually involved in anything regarding battle they’re ultimately really forgettable. Gen 7 did one thing right, and only one thing, and that was its story surrounding Lillie’s family. Also Ultra Beasts, because damn are those cool.
I think the reason everything since Gen 6 has been a significant downgrade is honestly graphics. I think a lot of issues in video games, particularly as it related to deadlines and the cutting of corners, comes down to how rapidly graphics advanced, and the demand for ever more “realistic” portrayals. When you have a game like Pokemon, that has all these models, it’s going to take forever, and a lot of the team’s time and resources go into developing the look. As a result, there’s no time for crafting a strong story. There’s no time to make interesting battle facilities in ORAS. There’s no time to make a bunch of new Pokemon to add; that’s more about deadlines and constraints of resources than lack of creativity. There’s no time to craft personalities, or edit the script, so you have a lot of superfluous and unnecessary dialogue. It’s why Gen 6 feels so immensely rough, while Gen 7 felt pretty strong in some areas: the models were already done and carried over. Gen 8 feels like a massive regression because for some reason, I think the models were redone again? Like it’s honestly gotten hard to tell exactly what went wrong with this generation with all the rumors that surrounded it. But production of better graphics means less time to focus on the actual content. It’s why indie games make such a huge impact when one gets the right formula: they put little into graphics, and were able to better flesh out literally everything else. And guess what. Sprites and shit? Still look amazing! Like, if someone went back to early Final Fantasy, in terms of visual presentation, while not looking spectacular, they’d still hold up. Going back to FF7 though? Good lord does that look awful now. Sprites work out, and we never should’ve transitioned to 3D models just because that was the gimmick of the console. Had they stuck with sprites, I honestly feel the Pokemon games would’ve gone in a completely different trajectory than modern day.
Gen 4 is, in my mind at least, the perfect generation. They added just the right amount of stuff in HGSS to make leveling not as much of a chore as the original Gen 2 games. DPP was absolutely amazing, especially Platinum, and Cynthia is by far the most intense Champion battle the series has produced. She routinely kicks my ass on my first visit to the league. Also she’s just the absolutely coolest in design and personality and everything. It’s just...I think even more than the scaling, it’s the sense of challenge. Because you can get to the gyms at the same level, or even a bit over, and they’re still tough. Roark has a Cranidos that’s just fast enough to beat an unevolved starter to the attack, and enough offensive presence to beat the Grass and Water checks you might bring. Rock checks you bring also have to fear Pursuit, and need a Ground move to handle his own. Or Gardenia, who has Leech Seed on Cherrim to get around the Bronzor you may have brought along, while Roserade is so overwhelmingly strong that Flying-type answers can get run over. Every gym leader in Platinum goes in with a game plan, and as a result, it’s really hard to just walk in with type advantage at the same level and sweep. The same can’t really be said for modern games, because you have shit like every Gigantamax Pokemon knowing status moves, despite those doing nothing in Gigantamax form. Or Opal’s Weezing having Fairy Wind and Sludge despite being able to learn much stronger attacks by that point. They play softball with you so much in modern games, and I honestly kinda miss when the game’s ultimate goal was to completely dunk on you if you weren’t prepared to try. Though man, a friend of mine recently brought up that Black/White 2 was the best at that, solely because Iris had a Focus Sash on Haxorus. In terms of taking the player seriously and aiming to completely ruin your life, nothing beat having a Dragon Dance Haxorus with a goddamn Focus Sash. Those were the days...

Episode 2 : Hired Help
We walked along the streets of the city where the streetlights still emitted luminosity at this peak of night.
I decided to have a little talk with this woman about her dilemma and think of a plan to solve it along the way.
“So Miss, what seems to be the problem? You were generally concerned earlier.”
“Oh i-its actually a sort of s-security problem.” She replied nervously.
“Security problem ? That sounds urgent. Can you elaborate the details ?”
“I’ve been sensing some unknown presence at my house every night. It looked like what seemed to be a shadow of a rather large silhouette”
“Large silhouette? Now that sounds really serious” I thought to myself as she narrated.
“I tried to block it off using the curtains but somehow I can still sense the ‘thing’ from inside my house.” She then huffed a sigh of defeat.
“It's been a disruption to my sleep schedule ever since I bought it a month ago.”
“I’ll see what I can do about it. Besides, perhaps it just someone just roaming around and taking shelter.” I said in an attempt to lighten her mood.
“I really hope so.”
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
The house was surprisingly just a 30 minute walk from the facility. I was really positive that this mission will be finished in a short time.
“Is this the place?”
“Yes it is. It's not much of a house to begin with but a home is a home afterall.”
“I have to agree with you on that one. So, where is this 'thing’ that you were talking about?”
“I will show you where.”
Ms. Gallius then led me to the grove of berry trees located just at the east side of the house.
“I always see it in this area every night.” She said, pointing to an empty area located at the middle of the grove.
“When the shadowy figure perched itself, the trees that were once there were completely desecrated by morning.”
“So this particular thing was at the same area every night and never once moved to another location?”
“Yes.” She said firmly. “I had countless sleepless nights ever since.”
I observed the patch of trees and scanned for anything unusual hiding in its shadows. However, I didn’t catch a glimpse nor sensed an unusual presence.
“There seems to be nothing here miss, not even a slight sign.”
“B-but that’s impossible, I could have sworn there is really something right there at this hour.”
“Perhaps it just appears when you are inside. I don’t know for certain, just a theory.”
“That reminds me, I should go inside. Would you like a cup of tea while you sort this out?”
“Sure.” I politely agreed even though I am not much of a tea drinking pokemon.
Ms. Gallius then proceeded to go and open her front door. I then followed her inside.
Just as I was nearing the house entrance, I heard some rustling leaves near the bushes. I brushed it off as it may have been the wind.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
The interior of the house is something I could describe as fully furnished and resembled more like a manor than a large house. Its walls were adorned with what seemed to be nuggets shaped into intricate designs.
“Feel yourself at home, even for a little while.” She said as she handed me a cup of tea.
I took a quick sip of tea, which was surprisingly good.
“Wow, this tea is great. What’s it made of?”
“It's actually Cornn berries , not a common ingredient but its still very efficient.”
“So about that problem of yours, have you tried anything else other than closing the curtains?”
“Well, I tried wearing earmuffs to at least negate the sounds it was making but its always that presence that’s been a huge bother.”
“That was most likely a ghost type. Ghost types give off that much energy that enables them to be sensed both physically and mentally.”
“And the fact that the only time you sense them is at night which is also a characteristic of a ghost type.” I continued.
“What course of action could you possibly do against it if that’s the case?” “I have never interacted with a ghost Pokemon before.” She said as she looked more concerned than before she told me about her problem.
“Well, ghost Pokemon are still Pokemon just like us. I could talk to it or fend it off depending on its mood.”
“If it means making me sleep peacefully then su-”
A loud rustle was heard from outside and it seems as Ms. Gallius was visibly shaken as she was speaking mid-sentence.
I too heard that loud rustle and was also startled but I then sensed a rather strong energy coming from outside. It seemed like the one I sensed was of high level.
I then glanced at the grandfather clock that was sitting in the far corner behind where Ms. Gallius was sitting. It was 2 hours past midnight.
“Are you alright?” I then looked to Ms. Gallius who hasn’t recovered from being startled.
“Y-yes, I-I think I am.” She then let out a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm her down.
“There, better.” She continued. “That was quite the sound it made.”
“I think I should go check outside to see what it is.” I said as I stood up. “And I could perhaps see what I can do about it.”
“W-wait, are you saying you are going to face it?” Said the Liligant with a look of concern. “Are you sure with what you will be doing?”
“Yes I am sure. Don’t worry about me, I have been through similar problems such as this.”
I then walked forward to the door, let out a breath and then proceeded to turn the doorknob.
“B-be careful” I overheard Ms. Gallius said from where she was sitting.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
I then walked outside into the darkness , where it was lit a single lamp post a few meters away.
I went to the direction of the grove of berry trees where the supposed thing was standing. I have to admit, I was quite nervous about this whole situation.
As I got near the grove of berry trees, which was previously undisturbed, I can sense the presence becoming stronger and stronger.
Immediately as I stepped right in front of the foliage, I heard a rustle louder than the one that startled both me and Ms. Gallius which implied that the source was indeed in this patch of trees.
The patch continued to rustle wildly then it suddenly stopped. As soon as the silence ensued, a mysterious shape appeared from the darkness.
One single red light illuminated from the grove. It seemed to be elevated a few meters above it.
The red light was accompanied by a tall shadowy silhouette towering above me. I started to feel a bit more nervous as it inched closer to my face.
There I stood face to face with the “creature”.
Hetalia- Team Uralic (Poketalia!AU)
I’m very late but I was really eager to submit something for Finno-Ugric Week! I ended up making a short Poketalia fic for Day 6: Fight Night Friday. I used the teams and names from my own Poketalia AU however I’m undecided if this is set within that same universe.
Basic premise for this fic is that the Uralic Trio set out to retrieve some of their stolen Pokemon.
Team Platinum is not a real team (yet but who knows in the future?) in the Pokemon series and was made up for this fic. Same with the admin character and grunts.
And for those not familiar with all the Pokemon mentioned, there’s a quick list with links for you at the end of the fic!
Enjoy!
“Do you think this is a good idea?”
“No but we're going to do it anyway.”
“You're so reckless Erzsi!” Timo replied nervously. “Shouldn't we have gotten the police involved in this?”
Erzsébet took a peek around the corner to see if any grunts were guarding the area. But the coast was clear and gave a signal to have her companions follow her as they ran down the brightly lit and almost sterile-looking hallway.
“By the time the police launch their investigation, my Haxorus, Ed's Vikavolt, and many other Pokemon will have already been sold on the black market. I'm not letting that happen.”
While Timo agreed with her ideals, this entire situation still didn't feel right to him. They were infiltrating an organization that was generally seen as a positive force globally. They had several facilities around the world to allow Pokemon to thrive in their natural habitat. They cared for injured and abandoned Pokemon. They had multiple departments where they studied everything there was to know about them. But in reality, it was mostly a front to commit crime behind the scenes. They were hiring criminals to steal Pokemon from trainers. Depending on the trainer's worth, a seemingly average Pokemon could fetch more than a million dollars. A rare Pokemon associated with a big name trainer could go for twice or three times more. They were mostly rumours but Erzsébet knew the truth. She followed the thieves to this facility where she saw a group of men being paid with a brief case full of money and drugs by a man and a woman in lab coats.
No one knew what was truly going on behind the scenes and that was their advantage. There was nothing was stopping them from calling the police on them.
“Eduard, you've been awfully quiet this entire time,” he said.
“I'm just here to make sure no one gets hurts and get back Vikavolt,” Eduard replied in a flat tone. His mind's in other places so Timo didn't press him any further. He hoped that everything would be okay in the end.
The group had arrived to a dead end but they were exactly where they wanted to be as they were greeted to a steel door in front of them.
“Are you sure this is the place?” Timo asked.
“I'm positive.” Erzsébet replied. One of her trusted partners, Breloom, had been out with them since the beginning and had been a huge help breaking down doors and destroying the security cameras. Breloom knew what it had to do and without hesitation it broke through the steel door using Brick Break multiple times. In the corner of Eduard's eye, he caught a glance of something in the wall to the left of them.
He gasped, “Erzsi! There's a camera in that wall!”
Erzsébet and Timo froze with shock as they turned their heads but Breloom jumped into action using Sludge Bomb. Parts of the wall disintegrated as did most of the camera.
“Nicely done Breloom! Now let's go.”
The group quietly entered the room and few lights were on, making it appear dark and gloomy compared to the rest of the building. The sight of Pokeballs went on forever as the space was filled with more than three dozen large bookshelves and the balls carefully placed on specially designed metal stands. Erzsébet suggested they split up; Timo to the left, her down the middle, and Eduard to the right. Before they parted, two more Pokemon joined their crew. Timo released his Dragonite while Eduard released his Chandelure. If they were to go alone, they at least had to be smart about it.
They went their separate ways and began glancing through the shelves. Every now and then they'd spot a camera or two and had them destroyed to cover their tracks. Their search was tiresome however as most of the Pokeballs looked the same with their traditional red-white colour scheme. But with a cry from the back of the room, Timo and Erzsébet ran as fast as their legs could carry them. When they arrived, Eduard was on his knees smiling gleefully with two Pokeballs in his hands and showed them off to his companions.
“I found them!” he said as he held out his hands. The Pokeball in his left hand was that of his Vikavolt's while the one in his right was that of Erzsébet's Haxorus. Both Pokeballs were unique in their designs as they featured traditional folk patterns of their homelands and made them easy to spot amongst the sea of items to find.
Erzsébet was emotional as she took the Pokeball from Eduard and held it close to her chest. Timo rubbed her back to comfort her. She was overjoyed that Haxorus was safe and sound. She couldn't imagine what would have happened has she had lost her for good. She didn't want to think about that. All that mattered was that both Haxorus and Vikavolt were safe and back where they belonged.
“You there! Stop right there!”
Their moment was cut short as a group of grunts spotted them from behind, a mixed batch of male and female members who were ready to battle. They had tried to flee but another group blocked them from other end. They were forced to huddle together as the sounds of heels clicking against the floor grew louder until a tall short-haired brunette wearing a lab coat joined the group of grunts. Erzsébet gasped as she recognized the woman from earlier. She was the one handing out a suitcase to the criminals who stole their Pokemon.
“You have some nerve breaking into our facility, damaging our property, and stealing our Pokemon.”
“Your Pokemon? Bullshit, these are far from yours. We came here to take back what is ours. I know you're stealing Pokemon to sell on the black market. Your organization is a phony.”
“Those are some pretty big accusations you're throwing out there,” she smirked. “Not like anyone is going to believe you.”
She cut through her group of grunts and slowly walked up closer to the three of them. She kept a bit of distance between herself and them. Breloom, Dragonite, and Chandelure all took their positions in front of their trainers and growled however she was not intimidated by their presence.
“I know who you are. Eduard Tamm, Erzsébet Héderváry, Timo Vainonen—all respected trainers from your home countries. Do you know how easy it would be for me to pick up the phone and call the police? What a joy it would be to see the headlines tomorrow! 'World champions arrested and charged in Team Platinum incident.' Your careers would be ruined and you'd get a stint in jail too!”
Erzsébet was not deterred and stood her ground. She would not let her words get to her head.
“You think you're tough but you hide behind your grunts who do your dirty work for you. Stealing Pokemon is not something I let slide and if you do it to me or my family, it gets personal. You mess with me, you mess with all of us.”
There was a brief pause but with a booming voice, she made herself appear powerful as she held out Haxorus's Pokeball, a sign of a challenge.
“You, Team Platinum, are no match for us, Team Uralic!”
The woman stared at them expressionless but a grin crept up on her face as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a Pokeball with the Team Platinum logo on it and out came a Porygon-Z. The rest of the grunts followed suit and released their own Pokemon—a mixed bag between Magnemites, Golbats, and Raticates.
“Let's see if your words match your skills. Don't be crying now if you lose!”
Erzsébet wasn't worried for a moment. She was strong. They were strong. With her cousins by her side, there was no way they could lose. They were level-headed and observant, never cocky. All they had to do was remain calm and do their best.
And their best was what they did.
Pokemon Masterlist - Haxorus - Vikavolt - Breloom - Dragonite - Chandelure - Porygon-Z - Magnemite - Golbat - Raticate
I should also make an important note before someone calls me out on it: Breloom can learn Sludge Bomb, but only as a Shroomish via TM. I figured that’s something Erzsébet would probably do to add some variety to its move pool.
