Dog Days on Whidbey
Whidbey Island is a very dog friendly place to vacation. From patio dining to off-leash beaches your four-legged friend will have the time of her life.
Freeland Park on Holmes Harbor is a wonderful beach for walks with your furry pal. It's easy to pop out the door and take off for a nice beach walk and then up into the woods by Freeland Hall. In the summer, this trail smells like warm blackberries and the views of the harbor are so calming. On windy, wintery days it's fun to bundle up and enjoy the crashing sound of large waves.
Playing on the beach on Holmes Harbor.
Another great dog beach is Double Bluff Beach. This beach has a two mile long stretch of off leash luxury for your dog. You'll enjoy tidelands, views of Mt. Rainier and you might even partake in the year-round clamming. Bring shoes that can get muddy and a dog towel for the car.
Visiting the beautiful and peaceful woodland gardens at Meerkerk Gardens. The garden is a pet friendly walk in cultivated nature. You and your doggy will be dazzled with the beautiful Rhododendrons Meerkerk Gardens is famous for as you explore the 53 acres of ornamental gardens and coastal woodland trails. You can even bring your picnic!
One of our favorite places, Greenbank Farms, has off leash trails for doggies. You can enjoy the seaside farm setting with trails, ponds, and gardens. Then after you are finished enjoying the beautiful outdoors, you can grab picnic supplies from The Cheese Shop and picnic outside on the picnic tables. Of course, you should also consider a visit the not-to-be missed Whidbey Pies and Cafe. You can enjoy your lunch and pie in the doggy friendly patio dining.
Speaking of picnics, maybe you'd like to stop at a winery with your dog. Spoiled Dog Winery is aptly named and welcomes your dog on leash in the outdoor tasting area and the covered spot also has overhead heaters for colder temperatures. After you've relaxed and enjoyed your tastings you can feel free to walk the vineyards with your furry pal.

Maybe you need some doggie supplies or would like a do-it-yourself bath at a professional center after a muddy beach day? Our favorite pet supply store is nearby Healthy Pet. They have a self-serve dog wash with four tubs and they include aprons, towels, shampoo, grooming tools, and dryers in the low flat rate. We love to get our raw and specialty dog food here too.
If you need a some professional grooming help or a drop in nail trim check out Four Paws Only Pet Salon located behind the Shell station. Even my dog doesn't mind getting her nails trimmed here. Cash only.
Another great pet supply store is our local Country Store. You'll find leashes, food, toys, and all here, plus you can pick up a pair of mud boots for you! Extra bonus if baby chicks are in!
Many more of our favorite places to hike and visit also welcome your pet on leash, but these places should be a good start. We hope you get out there and enjoy Whidbey with your wonderful buddy.

"Morning Delights" - 🔵Maestro's Notes: This incredible early morning interaction was filmed off Whidbey Island, Washington courtesy of Artist, Lei Kameno @_____________lei______________ Absolutely incredible sighting. • In recent article published by Candace Calloway Whiting in the Seattle PI, Center For Whake Research @centerforwhaleresearch Director, Kenneth Balcomb writes: “My first acquaintance with the Southern Resident killer whale (SRKW) we designated L41 was in 1977, the year after we began the annual Orca Survey of this population that continues to this day. His mother was L11, who was one of nine females to produce new babies that year following the cessation of captures in 1976. We watched the energetic young male baby as he grew up, and we had great hopes that he and his companions would fill in the youthful cohorts of the population that had been decimated by captures between the mid-1960s and mid-1970s. L41, with an adoption name Mega, traveled with his mom and sisters in a subgroup of L pod that became known as the L12s, named after his presumed grandmother, who was the likely mother of L11. It should be noted that the alpha-numeric designations are not in the birth order sequence in the early years of the Orca Survey – because nobody knew the population composition prior to our study. The whales were numbered in those early years in the order that they were first seen, and it was only after we had all of them identified in 1976 that subsequent new babies received the next sequential alpha-numeric designation for identification. L41 was among the first to receive a designation that identified him as a member of the new known-age youth cohort of the SRKW population. When he reached social maturity in his early twenties around 1997, L41 began to father babies. And, he became the champion male breeder in the SRKW population with fourteen known offspring that survive to this day in all three pods. Only J1, with the fathering of eleven living offspring in the SRKW community, has done as much to increase the population. A very few other males have contributed one or two offspring in this population. (Continued in the comments section @maestro320 ) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9EmhAqBSzS/?igshid=omim5qint2av

HAPPY #FoodieFriday I'm thinking back to my trip last year to @GoWhidbeyCamano for the @IFWTWA conference. It was my first trip to the #PNW but definitely not my last! Let's celebrate #PiDay with this amazing apple pie from Whidbey Pies Cafe https://t.co/tMJAU0m5AS #travel pic.twitter.com/QfjJ1Tklnu
