Sorry if you've already analyzed this recently but it would be neat if I could possibly get your thoughts about this.
I'm currently trying to theory craft for The Surrendered Witnessing (Canto 8), so I was looking at the Limbus TGS Teaser for more hints. Cuz the background art has been quite accurate so far.
When you look up Hong Lu on Google one of the first pictures you get is that art of him in the white outfit with the dandelion.(Which is also briefly shown on the TGS Teaser) At first I thought he was blowing the dandelion as a symbolism of being carefree and whimsical, similar to how children blow on dandelions to make wishes.

But then I noticed a few things. First, he doesn't necessarily seem happy, or really showcasing any kind of 'whimsy'. Also, the dandelion isn't up to his mouth. It's not positioned in a way where he can blow. It seems more likely that he is watching a common weed blow off in the wind with more freedom than he would ever get while he's with his family. Dandelions in general are also a symbol of hope, which means this could be a representation of him feeling hopeless.
But then, the screen briefly shows a zoomed out version before jumpscaring you with Heathcliff.
At first I thought this was a rebellion with the sheer amount of grey bodies seeming desperate. But then I realized they are reaching. Are they possibly reaching for Hong Lu? Do they just wish to be in his shoes-- desperately wanting just a sliver of his family's influence and wealth? Or is their desperation more focused on the red paper?
Hong Lu also doesn't seem that pleased, the zoomed out version seems way more bored than the zoomed in version.
The dandelion seeds turn into something red. It could be red envelopes used to gift money, but I don't know why Hong Lu or his family would even bother using something so formal on people with such low status. A very unlikely theory is that it could also be related to Hong Lu's previous mention of a 'red passport'. Though I'm just assuming it has significance specifically where Hong Lu's family resides, either something important within his house or something that has to do with how the district works.
--
Another interesting thing that pops up is a speech bubble. I'm not fluent in any other languages so I had to Google translate it, so it may very likely be wrong, but it says "it's almost like filming a play". I don't have a clue if that has been a previous line from Hong Lu, but the outline is in Hong Lu's color. So maybe he's referencing an event after the sinners return to his residence.
The other thing to note is the positioning of this picture directly over the dandelion picture. The only other person that really has that happen in the teaser is Sinclair, but that is because the Sinclair images happen within the same cutscene in-game. I have zero clue if the positioning in the video is that purposeful to make an entire theory on it, but I think the lineup is interesting. The image used is from The Unloving.
--
The last glimpse I'll talk about is the lil angy/displeased Hong Lu.
That looks like Outis' hand grabbing him by the shirt. I was trying to find any other pictures of sinners grabbing each other by the shirt-- but the only shirt threatening content we've gotten are both in The Unconfronting. One by Virgillius (not a sinner) and one by Don Quixote.
So my assumption is that this displeased Hong Lu could either happen during The Nocturnal Sleeping or The Surrendered Witnessing. Likely The Surrendered Witnessing because no intervallo art seems to have been out in the teaser. (All of the characters that already have cantos have art in the TGS that doesn't surpass their focus cantos, though that also could be due to Project Moon not wanting to spoil too much from the initial 3 release cantos)
Anyways! That's my thoughts! I kinda wanna hear yours if possible, no pressure though. :3
(Also, sorry if the formatting is weird I have zero clue how Tumblr's ask formatting works)
Oh boy that's a lot. Ok. Let's see how I wanna get into this.
Let's start with the bits I know I can explain for sure.
First, the dialogue lines. Last time I checked, every single dialogue line shown in the TGS teaser comes from the first three Cantos. Which, if you think about it, makes sense, as those were likely the only Cantos actually fully written by that point.
The line you pointed out specifically comes from Canto 2, it being the second half of this dialogue line that happens after the Sinners beat the Tingtang Gang.
I think its purpose in the teaser is mainly to reinforce the idea that Hong Lu's understanding of reality is very strange compared to other people in the City, him comparing whatever's happening to something as benign as a movie set.
You could probably also make a case for it being used to highlight the theme of the blurred line between Fiction and Reality, what with him comparing a Real situation to that of a Fictional scene one would be filming for a movie.
Second. The angry Hong Lu CG.
I've already discussed that CG at length in this post, but to summarize: this is a scrapped Canto 1 CG, from what I believe to be the original version of the scene where Yuri reveals her backstory, which in the original draft took place outside of the dungeon with all of the Sinners around and thus available to respond. The person grabbing onto Hong Lu's shirt is Gregor, and the reason his skin looks like that in the video is because of the heavy color overlay effects over the teaser itself. I included the clearest picture we have of the full CG in the post I mentioned.
We don't know whether this CG was scrapped before or after the TGS Teaser was made, so it's much harder to ascertain the purpose behind its inclusion here. Regardless of which it is though, it's clear that Project Moon deemed it important to show Hong Lu's capacity for anger in such an early teaser, meaning it was something they were focusing on as a point for his character even back then.
Now. Onto the things I get to actually speculate about.
Let's just first establish this - we have no way of knowing how similar Canto 8 will be to what Project Moon may have initially planned it to be. I'm not one of those people who claims that PM are serial retconners, but I'm also realistic in that I doubt they have more prepared future Cantos than maybe some rough outlines at most. As such, the scene shown in the TGS Teaser might not end up being framed in the exact same way as it was initially planned to be.
This is especially important to note as Vellmori CGs, aka the ones shown in the Teaser itself, are not being used beyond the ones already in the game. We can tell from Canto 6 and 7 that there's no guarantee that we'll get any exactly equivalent CGs from the current artist either. After all, we did get two whole scenes of a Heathcliff arriving to Cathy's funeral, but neither was framed in any way similar to the teased CG.
Here's some of my own observations though.
First - according to recollections from multiple DOTRC readers, the outfit Hong Lu is wearing in both CGs might be a reference to the mourning robes Baoyu wears after Daiyu's death. Considering how sensitive Hong Lu is about things that seem to remind him of an event that is very likely Limbus's equivalent of Daiyu's death (as I discuss in this post), it's likely that Canto 8 will put a notable amount of focus on that event and its aftermath.
Second - in higher quality versions of that first CG, it's possible to see that the shadow cast by the dandelion is a different color to the rest of the shadows being cast - it's notably more red in hue.
This could be another nod to Daiyu, as their Land of Illusion counterpart was the Crimson Pearl Flower. I think you're onto something here with Hong Lu not actively blowing at the dandelion, but rather merely watching it blow away in the wind by itself. It could be a representation of how fragile Daiyu's life ended up being, swept away as if by a gust of wind.
It makes me think of the Flower Burial Song from DOTRC (as do many things around Hong Lu in all fairness), which in itself also represents Daiyu's own mortality. Flowers fall, people perish, and neither of them know.
Third - A few notes about that second CG.
For one, I don't believe that the dandelion seeds are being turned into the red papers (for a lack of a more specific term to call them). You can see that the seeds are actually floating Among the papers, implying they're both falling at the same time rather than one turning into the other.
For two, while it's a bit hard to see in the particular screenshot you took, you can see that Hong Lu has his other arm thrust forward, while still holding the dandelion with the one he held it in the previous CG. This I believe implies he's not just watching the people below, but is actively throwing whatever the red papers are down towards them.
Now.
Here's my own unhinged theory as to what those (now unused) Canto 8 CGs might be showing.
Obviously, I already made it clear that I believe this is taking place after Daiyu's death ,what with both Hong Lu's robes and flower symbolism.
However, I believe the specific event that is happening here is Hong Lu creating a distraction for his Family so that he can escape.
I've made it no secret that I believe Hong Lu is in fact a runaway, and that the "sent out to experience the world" thing he mentions as his reason for leaving his home is in fact a blatant lie. After all, if it were true, why would his Family be searching for him? Why would they want to prematurely cut him off from experiencing more of the world? Add the Lasso Hong Lu corrosion voice line to this, where he's clearly acting out what his Family might sound like once they catch up to him, and you can see why I think this might be the case.
It's also not that hard to imagine why Daiyu's death would be the catalyst to Hong Lu deciding to take a chance and attempt an escape. Daiyu's death has been implied to be an event that not only deeply hurt him, but is also alluded to being the one thing capable of rousing Hong Lu's anger enough to actually lash out. If there was one thing that could make the otherwise docile and obedient Hong Lu act out in such a way, it would be crossing a certain line he believed should never be crossed.
What I believe we're seeing is Hong Lu drawing a group of desperate people towards a likely otherwise very secure household (if his musings about defense systems in Canto 6 are anything to go by). Perhaps, the things he's giving out are specifically invitations, as in Canto 6 Hong Lu mentions (in a way that almost feels like he's speaking from experience mind you) that having an invitation protects one from a mansion's security measures.
So, by "inviting" in as many disruptive people as he can, Hong Lu could be creating the perfect distraction for the Jia Family to deal with while he himself assumedly slips away unnoticed.
At least, that's my theory.
Hope this helps, or is in any way coherent WHEEZE.

QUACHIL UTTAUS HEADCANONS
First time ever drawing quachill, she's actually a lot of easier to draw than I thought which is probably what kept me from drawing her in the first place
I think it'd be really stinkin cute if Quachill had more bat parts to her
To reference yog, cuz technically she's a biblically accurate angel which references her mom Ishtar is a goddess, and she wears jewellery similar to her mom's
So it'd be neat if she had some goofy bat features
She has bat legs and smol bat wings she's silly
While I don't think Yog has bat legs because he's a vampire
I like to think when quachil was being born genetics got freaky, because Ishtar goddess of the pests and creatures and Yog is a Vampire with a bat form
So quachill came out lookin like a creature
Ishtar told Yog to get freaky with her in bat form trust 🗣️🗣️🗣️/j
So the vampire genes came out funny on quachill she has bat legs, wings, and long stringy fingers to match her batty toes
Yeah I made the hems of her skirt and ends sleeves look like bat wings too
She's a lovely kid

Lamprey ahh, she only opens her mouth to eat, people? Maybe probably yeah they eat people
She can talk telepathically without opening her mouth tho, it sounds echoey and grand to humans
But to the astrals she just has a regular kid tone, still says whatever too fr
Head canons: she likes cheezits, and she wrecks misfortune and disaster on earth, she's a thrones angel and angel of misfortunes
She acts all high and mighty around humans and tries to speak fancy (since astrals see humans as lesser, yes they all act high and mighty around humans and then just become goofy as hell when among themselves
except dagda he's like the cheshire cat, and abdicus doesn't speak with people much but if he does he goes into a psychotic ramble but otherwise he's basically a feral human
Also yeah he's also human but he matches the astral freak so no one touches him except zoth yk yk)
But really to the astrals she's just a little guy
Yog doesn't exactly support it, but he looks Sus and sissy when teaching quachil this so he doesn't exactly bother
I like to think the astrals are all ridiculously powerful to different levels and quachil being an angel she has big potential
Like my friends and I had a head canon that quachil plays with meteors 💀
She's the reason why meteor showers happen guys

Discussing Hide and Seek Pilot Tapes
So the Hide and Seek Pilot tapes are apparently canon too. So let's discuss. Note: I know I probably already mentioned some of these points in a previous post but I'm bringing it all up again.
First off I think "pilot" implies that these came first, before anything else. So that's where I'm gonna assume they take place in the timeline.
So here's what I notice in the first tape:
youtube
First off, Amanda and Wooly are still clearly friends at this point. Amanda and Wooly were still best friends at this point. "Right now I'm playing with my best friend Wooly." She says in a way that does not feel forced at all, like she means it.
When looking for Wooly, she says the box is a "good hiding spot" which is foreshadowing that it was supposed to be her hiding spot. More on that later.
I gotta say the art style of the storyboards after Wooly is found is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE AND MY FAV BY FAR. It's so cute!
Just look at them! Look at their little faces! I just wanna hug them!
When Wooly starts talking the song "I'm An Animal, and I Ta-" from the game's original soundtrack starts playing. It kind of feels like it was meant to be a leitmotif for Wooly. I noticed it mainly because it's one of my favorite compositions on the soundtrack heh heh... is it just me or is it a little messed up that they chose the song from when Wooly turns into a literal sheep to be his leitmotif? Is that symbolic in any way or am I just reaching? Either way I think it's pretty funny!
I didn't really understand in the music video why Wooly kept asking for it to be his turn only to get really scared when he actually got it. Now that I've rewatched the pilot tapes... I think I have a better idea about it. It's because that's the script and Wooly likes to stay on script. But that clearly doesn't mean he LIKES the script.
Also, while the scene where Wooly asks "what comes after one?" is pretty funny I also find it a bit weird. Like, does Wooly actually not know how to count? Like he could just be sticking to the script but far as I recall from being a little kid myself once (I know, shocking). Usually they'd simply ask the viewer to count with them, I don't recall any characters legitimately NOT knowing what comes after one. Like sometimes they'd say something like: "Can you help me count all these rubber duckies?" or something but I don't think I'd ever seen a show where the character simply doesn't know how to count. And I also had to watch a LOT of these type of shows with my younger siblings and cousins growing up (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is permanently SEARED into my brain thank the universe for Bluey).
So like genuine question... does Wooly actually straight up not know how to count? He even sounds really unsure the entire time he's counting like... it's just a possibility but like does he really not know? Because that would genuinely be really interesting.
Wooly calls the tree a really good hiding spot, you know cuz it's HIS hiding spot. Side note: It's really neat to see them having so much fun with this in the first tape. Like they are genuinely having a blast.
Moving on, Wooly got REALLY startled when Amanda jumped out at him. Can I make it a new headcanon that he startles easily? (TBF that's the same reaction I have whenever people try to startle me. I'm not scared, just really caught off-guard).
But what happens next is really interesting because Wooly points out that Amanda went off script and he's unsure how to feel about that. He seems really confused. It made me wonder if Wooly likes staying on script because that way you always know what's going to happen and how to react to it. Amanda was out here going off script and changing the episodes for her own amusement from the very start. Wooly also seems a lot more okay with going off script a little "as long as your having fun." but he doesn't seem to like it still.
Amanda and Wooly playing and messing around with each other as they run off screen is just so sweet! I wonder what happened to Grandma?? One of the biggest things I wonder is if this particular pilot happens before or after they get trapped. Like are they recording these lines in a recording booth? Or are they already trapped and haven't gotten their memories/awareness back yet? I think it might be option 2 just because Amanda was able to go off-script and Wooly seemed genuinely confused about it.
Anyway onto part 2!
youtube
Right off the bat Amanda seems confused and unsure about this episode.
Also I find it interesting how she hears out name and says: "Oh really I think we've met before" before getting cut off. This is yet another example of what seems to be the shows built-in censor system for when Amanda goes off-script. When she says "box" the tape glitches and says something else. It sounds like she says "tree" again. I wonder why? When the mouse clicks on the box Amanda seems uneasy. Could this be foreshadowing for Mr. Fox's death? Or does she already know he's not going to be there. Now whenever she says: "This is a good hiding spot" I think of the music video and I think Yeah, to hide a body Amanda?
Wooly still doesn't know how to count... Wooly's part isn't really different but when he says that she's not behind the tree there's this weird intense glowing from the left side of the screen. Wonder if that means something?
The only difference is now when he lifts the box he says: "You're not Amanda." Like... really Wooly I didn't notice a difference? <- sarcasm/joking.
Amanda's eye twitches when Wooly says he hopes he'll see us again soon. Then she says: "Let's play tag next time." which is obvious foreshadowing for her both not wanting to play any more hide and seek and wanting to play tag so badly. They also don't run off playing together in this ending... odd.
Anyway that's all the stuff I noticed! Hope you enjoy the post!

Not a villain at all, in fact the opposite, but. What're your thoughts on Wyatt Wingfoot? Also, I literally just discovered that he was along when the FF first emt the Black Panther, which is fascinating to me cuz the Keewazi and Wakanda, as initially envisioned, are variations on the same concept, I think?
I think it's delightful that "lovesick puppy Johnny Storm spends weeks touring the globe bunking together with his giant handsome Native American star quarterback roommate friend and a magic dog, in the hopes of rescuing a girl he'd spoken to for like 5 seconds" was a thing that happened and is what Johnny's stay in college was like, total no-brainer why Wyatt x Johnny is a thing that Dan Slott tried making official, apparently. Unfortunately I don't really have anything else to say about Wyatt.
As far as non-powered civilian hero characters in superhero comics go, you can certainly do worse than Jim Thorpe and it's commendable that Lee and Kirby went through lengths to not make him offensive or stereotypical (not that commendable given he's functionally written and drawn as a white man, but it's something I guess). He's not a character I'd want to see gone, but there just doesn't seem to be much of anything to him? Maybe someone did something interesting with him after, but in the Lee-Kirby run he's just kind of a boring fifth wheel.
I've seen mentioned the idea that he's kind of a genre throwback to the kinds of multi-skilled action-romance star athlete/non-superhero leading men of pulps and Golden Age comics, like a Flash Gordon who never went into space, and that's a neat concept to have exist in the margins of the Fantastic Four, that's as close as it gets to figuring out what's his deal meant to be here, but even then I'd call it a stretch.
Outside of being Johnny's pseudo-boyfriend and a surprise element in fight scenes he just doesn't really do anything, and if you're gonna be hanging around the Fantastic Four you really gotta have either a lot more than that, or at least something specifically really distinct or unique or at least fun. I'm cool with him but I think he could really use a rework.

Who’s your favorite Octonaut and why? :D
nyehehe
Gonna be honest I definitely have a bit of a bias towards kwazii XD
If I had a nickel for everytime I heavily hyperxiated on an anthropomorphic cat with a chunk of his ear gone, id have two nickels, which isn't alot but its weird its happened twice!
Its pretty funny actually cuz usually I go for more either more serious or eerily strange characters- 😭
Fun fact about me actually, this isn't my first time hyperfocusing on the octonauts! When I was in middle school I was super into these lil guys lol, and my current design for kwazii is just an updated version of my middle school one XD
I just think he has a unique charm to him and I feel like yeah people do look at him like this silly guy that doesn't understand anything and has silly and strange ways
But there's always a reason for his antics! And I love that sm <3 he's kind of a living contradiction of stereotypes I suppose?
Hes a pirate with the kindest heart ever <3
Hes so brave in the face of sharks and danger and peril but is scared of spiders 🥺
He believes all sorts of spooky tales of terror (let's be real they're probably wors of mouth from actual sea creatures, a good amount of them, and actual sea creatures do not describe other species well lol) but there's always a scrap of truth behind them AND he knows that!! But he still chooses to believe in them regardless 🥰
he doesn't know whats going on but he's never the butt of the joke for it-
Hes got what are and look like silly little ways and traditions that are part of his identity and life
He always is disappointed to be stuck babysitting or shocked whenever a creature associates HIM with some sort of parental figure- (this has happened for so long in the og show and above and beyond!) But then loves them so sweetly after only a little bit and is teary eyed and filled with love when they say good bye-
Also I might have had fantasy pirate fixations before in the past and him being a pirate in the modern era gave me so much freedom to do so much worldbuilding-
Also I just... really relate to cats in general 🥺 and I like how he's a friendly happy and excited lil guy with adhd, but he's still very much a cat
I just think he's neat 🥰🥰🥰

Timeline placement theories
Not gonna provide images cuz im not bothered
I have a few threories so ill order them 1-however many in order of which i like most-least
1. After the hero of legend or the hero of legend again (so after alttp, oos, ooa & la)
I think the downfall timeline is more likely. We have Ganon after he shed his humanity, which only happens in the downfall timeline, Zelda's dress looks similar to ALTTP zelda's blue dress, there are the hostile zora style zora, the la remake style (though that could just be for speed of making). However link doesn't have the yellow stripe that all of the downfall links have. We do also have two randomly seperate games between the hero of legend and hero of hyrule so what's one more? We can even hc it to be albw link and zelda is we really want. Also we have what seems to be an old impa. The only timeline of the slip timelines where we see impa being OLD is the downfall timeline (at least that i know of) but that is probably unrelated completely
2. Before botw (before the great calamity 10,000 years ago)
Now this could probably clash with my tears of the kingdom placement headcanon, or work with it. But we see both types of zora from the downfall and child timelines, and who knows? Maybe those rifts are what is reconnecting the timeline (why maybe the two zora types are confronting(?) Eachother) dont have much else to say about this but its a neat little placement. Also maybe the reconnected timeline is a way to show the new direction the zelda games are foing, at least maybe what they are thinking in nintendo hq or something. Also the sword and bow and cape that link had look kinda like the zonai tech. As much as i dont like the zonai and want this to be completely seperate from the botw/totk/aoc-verse, maybe they took inspiration. Especially with the ultra-build aspect of the echoes and similar ui
3. After oot, before alttp
Less plausible. I dont exactly remember the alttp lore but it feels like, and i love the fact that tge hero o legend arrived because of the fact that the hero of time died and he has to fix things. Hoever that could be what's going on. So i just like the idea of it being in the downfall timeline so much
4. Before oot
Less likely, but hyrule does seem to look a lot more thhriving and big. However, ganon only shows up for the first time and as a human in oot, and the hostile zora wouldn't have evolved that way yet since everything is peaceful and not corrupted. We also have a deku scrub, but idk what that means, also forgot what game they are from
5. (Worst) child or adult timeline
Child is slightly more plausible, but i really dont want it to be there. We do have the oot/tp style zora but it judt doesnt work as well.
Adult timeline i HOPE they dont touch it ever again. Not becausd i do t like it but because they made it so well that shoving another game in there would ruin it. The flow from ww to ph to st works so well and was clearly really thought out. Also hyrule is kinda flooded, and we have the gerudo desert so it can't be new hyrule, and it cant be before ww because the whole lore of that is there WAS NO hero to save hyrule so it wouldn't make sense. This is the worst option ever to place it.
In conclusion: theory number 2 is probably most plausible imo, but i would like it to be theory number 1 most
I was just thinking, imagine if nintendo decided to make a 4th timeline in the timeline split XD
Anyways
Goobye

A while ago I came out as being bisexual, & while it does feel amazing and liberating can I still be attracted to nb people? I the definition of bisexuality is to be attracted to men & women only & while I technically fit into pansexuality I don't necessarily identify as it. The point is can I still be bisexual if what I am contradicts the definition? I figured somebody like you could help me.
Aww hey hey that's okay <3
I'll shed some light onto my thought process, as I'm a firm believer that bisexuality does NOT exclude nonbinary people.
So, everyone has their own way of defining their sexuality. It just so happens that bisexuality and pansexuality have a lot of overlap, but the distinction is still important to people, and that's okay
Personally I identify as bi/pan because the distinction between the two is largely negligible to me. I believe that the overlap on the venn diagram between the two is where my sexuality falls. I tend to just say I'm bisexual cuz like. it tends to be the aspect of my identity that gets erased the most, but it's important enough to me to where I like to assert it as much as I can to deny that erasure.
Some definitions i've heard for inclusivity's sake are as follows (but whether or not you want to follow these definitions is flexible to your own comfort level):
Bisexuality CAN be defined as attraction to both YOUR gender, and genders that differ from your own (hence the "bi" meaning 2). This is a little less rigid than saying that bisexuality is strictly an attraction to MEN and WOMEN, so some people tend to prefer it.
Pansexuality CAN be referred to as loving anyone REGARDLESS of gender, where gender doesn't actually come into consideration at all. This definition is good, but also, people who identify as bisexual COULD have largely the same thought process.
Do these sound similar?? yes! It's because they ARE similar, and they also aren't rigid definitions that everyone has to follow. The overlap is inherent for a very specific reason: comfort.
This is something that usually gets overlooked when the public consciousness talks about labels. There's a lot of arguments about specific definitions, and which labels are good or bad, which ones are inclusive, and which ones aren't, but I think these arguments leave out the central reason people use labels in the first place: Self Definition.
Labels, as they are, in reference to the LGBT community, are often used as a way to categorize and exclude other people (if you are a loser who's mean to people for identifying a certain way), but that is not their primary function. The reason we use labels (and this is true for everyone in the community), is because it helps us put words to our subjective experiences in a way that brings us the most comfort. Categorizing others is a waste of time, because the more people you meet throughout your life, the more you realize that peoples' ideas of gender and sexuality are all so varied and vast, much like the colors on a rainbow, that fitting them all into neat little boxes doesn't really work. There's no use trying to say that some labels are good and some labels are bad, because at the end of the day, the person you are observing DOES NOT identify as YOUR PERSONAL dictionary definition of their label. Rather, they have their own subjective experience, and they've chosen their own labels to define them (as rigidly or as loosely as they may).
Self-identifying is what it's always been: an individual's subjective reality put to words that make them comfortable.
It doesn't have to be any more specific than that <3

Kinda dying to know more about that 'Sleeping Beauty' art/the AU it's about. That is if you wanna ramble about it or not. I saw the collars and then what happened in that last panel and I locked in so hard 😏🩸
Suuure! I actually don't mind rambling about some of the ideas I got going on in my noggin. You all are welcome to remove my cranium and take a peek at anytime. I'll let you all know when something becomes a little uncomfortable for me.
Anyway, I'm still piecing things together in my brain about that one. Mostly 'cuz there are two routes I could take it and I'm still trying to decide what one I'd prefer.
I'll start with the beginning though. It was an AU that came to me by accident. I just wanted to draw some dark sonic one night, then my spotify started playing a song...and well I tend to have a habit of going with the flow when it comes to music. From what started as dark sonic attempts turned into 'ok, I know there's werehog sonic, but I think a vampire sonic would be kinda neat...'
Why? I dunno. The music told me so.
Anyway, the song in question.
youtube
The more I listened to the song while drawing my brain also was like 'So, what if Shadow was a goth rock musician and Sonic's a huge fan of his him and his music...to an obsessive and unhealthy degree. '
It started with those two basic thoughts along with me just wanting to draw an unhinged Sonic. Then I was like 'Hm, Vampire: the Masquerade AU? Maybe???'
And that thought is still a maybe. It's one of the routes I could take if I really wanted to just stick with a vampire theme. I'm not sure if many in this fandom is aware of that Table top RPG though. So I'm not sure how in depth I want to be about my ideas for that route because, I might lose you guys with some of the lore and terminologies of that game. But the basic gist of that one is that Shadow, not knowing Sonic was a vampire, got a little to frisky one night and Sonic bound Shadow to him in some... ttly not cool, but very vampire way. Shadow's still an alien hybrid though and...Sonic's really obsessed with his blood 'cuz of it.
The second route is a little more 'original' and what I might lean more on for that reason along with the fact that I like how tragic it is in comparison, which evolved from 'Sonic's just a vampire' to... more.... I don't know how much I want to spoil about that route though, because it's meant to be a bit of a mystery Shadow's supposed to solve after being forced to sleep for an unknown amount of time, leading him to wake up in some post apocalyptic future and finding out eventually, whatever happened years back related to an incident involving Sonic that he doesn't fully remember. He just knows it involved G.U.N. somehow and whatever they did fucked Sonic up pretty bad.
Sonic remembers, but he's...really dodgy about it. Anyway, some of the basics of shadow eventually becoming a rock musician and sonic being an obsessed fan are the same but the difference here is that they do know each other, unlike the first idea. And it's got more...cosmic horror elements to it....
That Sleeping Beauty pic is meant to be a bit ambiguous on which route it is, but admittedly its more based on the second idea I got in my head. The lighting is meant to convey that Sonic metaphorically and literally can no longer be in the light, so to speak.
That picture is also inspired by a song I was listening to as well:
youtube
This god damn thing evolved beyond what it was meant to be in my god damn head!
I'm still thinking through alot of stuff for it; some of it requires research too, which I can now get to since all my hardcore adulting is over by tomorrow.
I don't mind getting more questions on this AU (and others) though, and I'm happy someone took interest in it! Ask me as many questions about it as you'd like, even if I'm slightly hesitant to reveal some things.
Admittedly, out of most of my stuff so far, this AU is probably going to be on my bluesky more because...its a little more...'mature' compared to some of the other stuff I've drawn.

EPISODE 6
N-no Alastor again......
......
.....OK, so....this episode needs multiple viewings for me to.....fully absorb everything that just happened......but......uh......I-I don't wanna just not say anything about it, so....here goes.....
-OK, fandom, you got me. You called it. Vaggie was an angel. Wasn't exactly the most surprising twist imaginable when everyone and their mother called it, but it was cool to actually see it. Th-the fact that she got her name because a misogynist named her was probably the biggest twist for me here, cuz HOLY CRAP, it makes so much sense. XD I remember when people used to haaaaaate Vaggie's name.....I-I honestly used to raise my eyebrows at it before I got used to it. That's neat.....
....But if there was one thing I DIDN'T call, it's Charlie not knowing. I legit thought she already knew. They were so close, and they've been a couple for years before the show, so I thought that already happened. B-but I....I LIKE this direction? I-I love Chaggie already, don't get me wrong, they're like the M&M of this show for me.....b-but their relationship has always kinda been....swallowed by the....EVERYTHING ELSE in the show around them. I-I'd love to see them get center stage! Will that happen, or will it just get brushed over? Dunno....but....either way, this cliffhanger KILLS ME just cuz I wanna know what happens next for them!
-NO ONE IN HEAVEN BUT SERA AND THE EXORCISTS KNOW ABOUT THE EXTERMINATIONS. PLEASE leave all your "Heaven is evil, what's the point of the hotel" complaints at the FLIPPING DOOR! We got a breakthrough! Yup, I never bought it for a second. The Exorcists are only ONE type of angel! There was no way they represented ALL of Heaven! The whole point of the story was that it's not a black-and-white conflict! If the whole story was just "Hell good, Heaven evil", what would be the point of that? You think the writers are THAT dumb?
Sera....seems to be the one in charge of making the decisions, but she's not evil, she's just doing what she thinks is right for Heaven. I'm pretty sure her mind can be changed. And Emily is so so so much like Charlie that them singing together was satisfying as heck! Adam and Lute are the clear bad guys here....
I love the confusion of "How isn't Angel rising to Heaven?" and how it kinda parallels to how Adam, who was once human, is still IN Heaven. Just cuz they're dead, doesn't mean they can't change. Vaggie had her wings torn off and fell. That could be Adam by the end of the show. But, what about someone in Hell rising to Heaven? Not even the angels have the answer. Because they're not evil. I LOVE that.
-Speaking of Emily and Charlie being alike, yeah, that second song was INCREDIBLE! Do I like it more than "Hell Is Forever" (which I've been listening too soooooo much over the week)? That's a high bar, so I dunno....but I love how this song is a follow-up to it, and it's very climactic.
-AUSTRALIAN CHERRI HECK YEEEEEAAAAA!!! Angel standing up to Val in....in only their....second episode together? Uhhhhh, aren't we moving too fast- I mean HECK YEEEEAAAA!! Drunk Niffty HECK YEEEAAAAA!!! More Huskerdust on the side HECK YEEEEAAA!!!
.....The running gag with Sir Pentious killed me. XD His obvious crush is so cute. Definitely a highlight for me. Better luck next time, dude.
-But yeah....my favorite thing about the episode (besides learning that Heaven isn't evil) is the Vaggie thing. I'm REALLY on the edge of my seat to see how this goes! Oooooo.....I-I'm so nervous! Obviously Charlie's not gonna be MAD, but....OK, maybe she'll be mad? But she won't STAY mad....I-I can't believe I'm looking forward to drama between those two....They've been so wholesome.....but I dunno, I wanna see a story about them, I guess....

Regarding the ask game what’s the S1 solstice to boat au about???
hi foamyyyy! i talked about it a bit in this post
it's basically a winter solstice au where. it's like. im ficjign struggling how do i explain this quickly. fucjing. fuck it, my snippet is half the fic notes, i dont have much of any proper writing to share for this one anyway
content warnings include mindless rambling, zhao, and threats of violence/execution
s1 winter solstice episode au, very much adjacent to that tumblr post (linked) about zuko getting locked up with sokka and katara and them figuring out about Zuko's fucked up family life.
similar but we bypass the actual verbal conversation by having zhao do taunting stuff cuz he be like that. he says stuff like episode 3 about ozai not wanting zuko back, about him failing his 2ish year long search, about how when they drag him back home, there might even be a public execution for his crimes, wouldn't that be nice? nothing but the best for the prince. and maybe zhao will even get to watch. ("he wouldn't." "can you really be certain, my prince? after what he did to your face? and just for mouthing off, too. how would he punish a real crime?")
then zuko showing how desperate he is to not get dragged back to the fire nation by doing some fucked up dangerus type of fighting back. like, wiggling, screaming, biting, full on child in a grocery store who has learned how to glue themselves to the floor type of reaction to being arrested, except this child has fire and no limits. good chance for that idea where zuko superheats a metal gag and bites through it, burning himself in the process. would be neat to have zuko spit a shard of almost molten metal at zhao cuz fuck him. maybe keep the whole scene chained to the pillar instead in some other room like these fics usually go?
so water siblings realize that something is most definitely Up based on zhao's words and Zuko's reactions, and when roku starts to tear the temple apart, they hit a wall where they realize that zuko's been trapped by the lava flow like them, and while they have appa to hop onto, he doesn't have an escape. so cue these kids being Kind and promptly yanking him along cuz the alternative is zuko burning alive
so we get Bison Time, wherein zuko's still not a fan of anything that's happening, but compared to how he was acting with zhao, he's downright pleasant. which is not to say that he's actually pleasant, he is very much being an angry brat who's like one second away from trying to fight them while still on the bison. the siblings have a lot of questions, because what zhao said about banishment and two years searching and public executions was fucking wack and they need to know why he said that, why zuko fought so hard that he thought burning his mouth as bad as he did was an acceptable trade off. they know why, but they need to hear it.
zuko does not let them hear it. he yells and doesn't answer any questions and demands they put him down or else. bits about the mouth burns obviously bothering him, just cuz im me and im predictable
they end up going to drop him off at his ship cuz his crew wont attack without a command, and zuko's not so dumb to make them attack the bison he's on. they end up making him swear to not do anything until after they fly away
potential bit where they fly over to Zuko's ship, still in fire nation waters, and find its got a zhao shadow. so zuko, while not at all wanting to actually say it out loud, does not want to go back to his ship until the shadow leaves or they're out of fire nation waters, cuz he will absolutely be arrested. cue more gaang being concerned about the arresting thing, and zuko basically pulling his own teeth to ask if he can wait on the bison until it's safe.
Eventually theyre able to land on zuko's ship without risk of zuko being arrested. zuko keeps his word and doesn't let anyone attack until after they leave, and THEN. aang is a smartass and takes advantage of that by just. not flying away :) so zuko can't do anything, cuz then he'd break his word!! that's pretty fuckin dishonorable!! zuko would like to murder aang.
(really aang needs a moment to talk with the siblings because if what he gleaned from the conversation is true, he can't in good conscience just leave zuko to his fool's errand for an abusive father. they need more information, and they have to do something, cuz this is not ok. the siblings agree, though with much more caution because that's been forced into them by growing up in a war)
cue s1 gaang and zuko tea party
and so the whole fuckin fic takes place on zuko's ship cuz aang is be a pedantic little snot and zuko's autism sense of honor wont let him break a promise
i have maybe 300 words of actual writing for this, and im not sure how i feel about those words. this is like one of the first fics i tried to write for atla, which, like most of my atla fics, has dug itself a very comfy hole to sleep in. i'd love to get anywhere with it, if only i had the motivation
#thanks for the ask foamy!!!#i love s1 and i needed to contribute to the s1 fic scene#also i love that fuckin boat#i should come up with more s1 fic ideas#and uh. actually finish them#if you wanna chat about s1 ideas i am ALWAYS open to it adhkahfh#ok on a count#it seems i have more s1 ideas than any other seasons aahdkhdg#excluding like full series ideas it's about 13 from that list i shared#nvm the mini wip document#oh no#the mini wip document#pewsonal uwu#tag game#asks

any rp wishlist ??
I HAVE A LOT!!!! omg... screams into my hands this is a heck of a question anon- TYSM!! ❤️❤️ i have a wishlist tag too actually- but i don't post much in it because tbh all interactions feed me so well...... i love hakuno dearly you see (live lynn reaction: 🥺🥹😩🫶💗) and she's always interacting with all kinds of interesting muses so tis a guaranteed fun time 🥳 and also like. hakuno as a character is defined as a nobody with nothing so you can expect pretty anything to be a new experience 2 her :,) OK BUT YEA BACK TO UR Q! WHEN IT COMES TO WISHLIST THO HRMGHH that's a tough one..... cuz i have sm!!! so off the top of my head:
this is rlly general but oooo i want hakuno to go to all sorts of places! she is already someone who is so curious, exploring the world to try to find a place in it. spoiler alert she doesn't but i digress! imagine your muse showing her a place they like... or a by-chance encounter where hakuno stumbles on their little secret spot.... hakuno would be pretty inquisitive because she can't imagine having such an attachment to any place, but i think it'd be real interesting to explore! and also- your muse and hakuno going on a trip somewhere... sightseeing and having fun together mayhaps,, the possibilities are endless so i can't really specify but i just think it's neat! 🥺
"i'd die for you" "i'll live for you" "let's live together" "let's die together" <- whatever those lines got going on!!! not all of them at once ofc (unless things happens and they all apply at some point 👁👁✨️) but just whatever genre this is..... life and death are interesting topics to explore with hakuno – she's someone who can understand what it's like to want to disappear, but at the same time she's someone who's afraid of death. and she wants to love so badly but has no reason to </3 so i wanna explore more of that in general !!! i wanna see her interact muses who share that same mindset... muses who think completely differently.... let them explore what their purpose is... their reason to live... and all that!
tragic love is such a Big Need for meee, i'm a sucker for them!!! and i really think it's so perfect for hakuno!!! i hope everyone knows by now that i love the theme of love for my hakuno 🫶 and like- imagine finally understanding and finding love when you thought you never could, only to lose it... unrequited love? a doomed love story? there are so many ways to go about it, and who the other person might be makes it so much more interesting too, and i just crave it!!
hakuno and a muse working together for something- a relationship founded on ??? like, they just happen to meet and their goals just somewhat aligned so they're sticking together for practical reasons or just circumstances!! will they get to know each other better and come out of it with a good experience? will they butt heads but decide to bear with it until their respective goals are accomplished? idk but something about it intrigues me! i'm really interested in having like a whole storyline happen tbh 🥺 it'd be fun to see how much the relationship changes at the end of things y'know!
i'm gonna need more antagonistic dynamics too tbh.... she is absolutely going to be as polite and nice as she is to any other person because c'mon... it's Hakuno. but! i feel like there's a biiig sense of distance that comes with having this sort of dynamic with her. as we have seen in canon for example, hakuno's really frikkin aware of their status as enemies with other character- she's always saying stuff like "even though we're enemies?" and not understanding why'd be nice to her when she's their enemy... stuff like that!! i mean, enemies to friends or enemies to lovers is def not out of the question ((ФωФ)✨️ ...) but it'd be so fun to see the development!! which i guess is the appeal of those dynamics in da first place !
i love character development ofc but i have always been thinking about- how about reverse character development ?! 😳 hakuno is a suuper interesting character to me because- well, it's like a white sheet of paper! it's blank! i feel like there are soo many directions her character could go and i think it'd be so fun to explore! characters who bring out the worst in each other maybe?? enable each others' bad habits?? and oh boy it'd hurt so much on hakuno's part because she wants to be better and is always wanting the best for others so like (: IT COULD BE FUN METHINKS..!
letter writing threads!! i feel like you can tell a lot about a muse by the kind of letter they write 👁👁✨️ having hakuno write down her thoughts and feelings into paper just sounds super interesting to okok- i'd imagine her letters sounding more like very formal reports tbh 💀 but i think it could be so fun and a really neat way to really get the Insight(TM) on da muse!
speaking of the letter writing tho- something related to arts and humanities! drawing? music? writing? sculpting? dance? anything and everything creative pls. hakuno's way of thinking is very logical so i think she struggles with understanding things that don't really have a solid factual answer, but that's also what makes it so interesting! art can really touch people's hearts too and that's the kind of thing hakuno needs desperately 🥹 even if she can't fully understand it right now ! your muse showing hakuno their creations maybe?? bonus points if their works say a lot about them as a person or means a lot of them!
i'm a sucker for childhood friends so i want that for hakuno too 🤧✨️ !! it doesn't have to be friends in specific tho- i just think there's something special about knowing someone when they were younger :thonk: kids tend to be more honest i guess? and i mean hakuno still is, but for better or worse, the hakuno we now know keeps the "bad" parts of herself hidden away while actively trying to be the person other people need – a younger hakuno wouldn't have that mindset yet methinks! BUT YEA BACK TO WHAT I WAS SAYING 😳😳 it's fun to see how that could affect the dynamic especially when they meet later on!
OH AND immortal & mortal is a staple! hakuno could work as both tho... it rlly depends on the verse because her mortality is Weird(TM) actually- but i still think both concepts would be very fun!! >:3c with her as a mortal, it'd be Neat for her to want to be remembered because that's asking for a lot when her entire life is probably like a mere blink in the eyes of an immortal </3 and with her as an immortal, i just like the idea of her finding happiness after possibly years and years of loneliness but also being aware that happiness is very much temporary </3
I FEEL LIKE THESE R MORE DYNAMICS AND THEMES THAN SPECIFIC SCENARIOS BC LIKE i wuv...... and i luv scenarios and situations too ofc but i can't rlly specify bc they're all so neat 2 me.!!! your muse and hakuno could literally just go to mcdonald's and i'd be havin a blast writing it GVSMCBSMDH
#q.#&&. wishlist#<- da tag....... which i'm scared to click on bc i cringe tew hard at myself /lh#but It's There 😱 !#(ALSO YEAH IF U SEE SOME OVERLAP IT'S BC OF HOW I NEGLECT THAT TAG SM SHFKEHF)#BUT AAA AGAIN! THANK U SO MUCH FOR DA ASK NONNIE 🫶💓💗#i'm always down to talk abt h.akuno ! >:3c#AND ALSO TO MUTUALS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THESE ..... hmu pwease 😳🙏#ALSO- SORRY FOR DA DELAY IN ANSWERING THIS NONNIE 🥹 am snail......#&&. out of#anonymous

hello! having a UI hyperfixation rn!!! do ya' have any hcs for them? :0 or any lore or something similar!! i would love to hear it!! (you do not need to respond to this ask if ya' don't wanna!)
i'm gon repost my old headcanons on her
• she really wishes her surrounding circumstances were in some kind of way special but actually she's built at the least unique place with basically nothing neat happening nearby. there are strange giant cherry trees nearby, but that's about it • LOVES lizards. she's the one who made the Cyans and sent some over to Pebbles to fuck him up. thankfully, as we all know, Cyans are kinda stupid and since they launch themselves over edges of cliffs they haven't managed to destroy the local ecosystem • her citizens used to keep lizards as pets. most of the time just for the joy of having 0 braincells creature follow you around while looking pretty, but some had 'em as sort of hunting dogs • was the one who created The Rivulet. she was mumbling to herself and a friend smth about how boys only screw things up while engineering Riv's genome • she BASICALLY packed Riv into a cannon and shot them over right into the middle of a scav toll cuz "come on, it's not that far away. this will make your journey shorter and shit". i don't care how goofy it sounds, this is how it went in my heart • in possession of probably the most durable comms ever made • claims she's purple! she's actually fake out purple which means homegirl is Deceptive Blue. she CONSTANTLY fights over this with Pebbles • despite their squabbles she did care for Pebbles. she was very excited to not be the youngest anymore and getting to baby someone
• her and Nish always start verbal sparring matches, often consisting of threats that more often than not range on impossible to actually commit. they constantly lead their mock wars in #general. Moon's gonna kill 'em one of these days • trusts Moon the most- which is why she outed Pebbles' rot and sent Rivulet with the instructions to extract the rarefaction cell • her city is called Sermo [that means "conversation"] • city's representative instrument was a shamisen. she absolutely knows how to play it and loves to threaten people with the bachi
some additional stuff: • Nish is Innocence's Mentor. just like Suns was Pebbles'. they however have a much healthier relationship than those two • her outfit is supposed to be based off of a Vietnamese folk dress • she's a member of the Phone Operator Guild, which is why her comm. systems are so durable • the friend mentioned up there is that Murder of Crows oc of mine • my Inn is basically Candace Flynn. of course with some things different to fit into this world, Innocence's existence as an Iterator and to still be a different character. Innocence, unlike Candace, for example is more ruthless about the whole busting deal. while Candace doesn't actually want her brothers to be harmed, Innocence leaked the Rot information specifically to punish Pebbles with how much it would hurt him • she's obsessed with seeing and knowing things. so way later in the Iterators' lifespan, one of her structure's legs buckle and she smacks her puppet's face badly enough that it caves in and destroys both of her eyes • because of the Citadel pearl: - Innocence knows how to appreciate simple beauty like dust floating in rays of the sun - she likes feeding her lizards personally. she'd probably attempt becoming a cook if she had the means or reason - "defeating an opponent in a debate contest, and being applauded by fellow team members" is something she deeply desires and it shapes her as a tattletail/talker

Who's the Best (and worst) Roommate?
1. Matt. Simply by virtue that he's... never around? He spends extremely long amounts of time away from his room (spending the nights with Marcus usually instead), which means when he was a 2nd year you'd get the whole room to yourself most days. The times he actually is in his home dorm he mostly keeps to himself and reads or listens to audio books. He does like to talk and make friendly conversation though, so if you initiate he'll perk right up from whatever he's doing to chat. The most bother you'll have from him is when him, Marcus, and Kaz get together for a group study session, but they're able to move if you need privacy.
2. Kaz. He's just a sweet boy! If a bit if a pushover sometimes. He likes to talk and get to know you better, but is understanding if you'd prefer to be alone. Any mess he makes he makes sure to keep to his side of the room, though he also gets antsy when the room is a mess he doesn't like to voice his concerns when it happens. If you're feeling under the weather he'll offer to get you something from Sam's to help you feel better. He spends a lot of time away from his room throughout the day and mostly just comes back to sleep late at night (though he tries to be quiet as possible when he comes back too late). Every week him, Marcus, and Matt will have group study sessions and alternate between each other hosting, but they can usually move to the lobby if you ask.
3. Stahli. Yet another sweet boy! He likes to talk about his day and your day, and might offer to make you some tea and a treat when he's making some for himself. Actually he might offer you food often, since he's always looking for a taste tester for his cooking experiments. He's a little bit of a neat freak though and might pester you to clean things up if you leave the room too unkempt for his taste. Also, he can't stand strong fragrances so he might complain if you want to burn a candle/incense with too strong a fragrance or if you use body spray/perfume.
4. Phobos. He's antisocial and doesn't like being bothered. Being his roommate is only nice if you don't want someone to talk to, cuz chances are he won't want to talk to you even if you try and initate conversation. It's possible to befriend him, but it will just take a bit of time. He stays up really late on his computer, so hopefully you can sleep through the clicking of his keyboard. He gets pissed off if you try to have company over, but can ignore them by playing on his computer with his headphones on.
5. Marcus. He keeps to himself for the most part, so you won't have to worry about him bothering you, however insomnia + night terrors will make sleeping in the same room as him a bit of a challenge. You might hear him wake up or make startled noises periodically through the night. Also his boyfriend Matt is usually hanging around the room with him and will often spend the night. Somehow he's even more nocturnal than Marcus is. Hopefully you'll get used to it. Other than that him, Matt, and Kaz will have group study sessions sometimes and he'll host it in his dorm room. He's understanding though if you want him to move somewhere else.
6. Nyx. Unfortunately staying with him would kind of suck unless you share a lot of characteristics with him. He spends a lot of time alone in his room when classes are out, so I hope you weren't hoping for privacy. Because of his low heat tolerance he requires special accommodations and keeps the room fairly cool, so hopefully you like cooler temperatures too. He often stays up late on his computer and does voice calls with his friends, and while he'll try and lower his voice he still isn't that good at monitoring his volume. There's also a slim chance of Spontaneous Eels knocking on your door at any given moment with no warning. No they won't go away either if you turn them away. He sleeps with a sound machine and a lava lamp cuz he can't stand the dark and quiet. Also he will absolutely get upset if you have too loud of company over, even if he doesn't say something. Hypocrite.
7. Vantablack. As if being around them for long periods of time wasn't unnerving or invasive enough, their side of the room is a godamn quarantine zone. They like to decorate their side of the room with bones and teeth strung up like string lights along their bed and there's a locked chest at the foot of their bed which you can only assume is full of human skulls. Weird sigils are painted on the walls around the window and by the doorway and they will NOT let you scrub them off, no matter how much they bother you. There's a weird smell of moss and lake water that permeates their side of the room at all times. You get the feeling they might have been rummaging through your things when you're not home but you have no proof. They're talkative and really want to get to know you better, but you get this weird feeling that they don't just want to get closer to you because they want to be friends...

in other news i just watched the mario movie (german dub) and it was pretty nice. it was very Illumination Adventure Movie so i didn't expect much but what it set out to do it did pretty well. there were some parts where i kinda cringe cuz illumination humor and i think nobody really liked the existentialist luma
as an adventure movie it did a great job of being entertaining throughout. not a movie where i really Laughed at any point but it got plenty of smiles out of me
i know peach's portrayal sparked conservative outrage which is stupid. i liked giving her a more sassy character while still being Nice and Girly. since that's also what she tends to be in games with actual dialogue in them.
damseling luigi instead of peach is also just a great decision for a) storytelling and b) marketing.
a) because they went with the old cartoon isekai approach to the lore here. this means mario doesn't really Know peach at all so if she got kidnapped he wouldn't have an emotional tie to her as he does luigi, so having luigi kidnapped instead is just higher stakes
b) because having one cool Guy character and one cool Girl character each means this isn't a "boys' movie" but just a "kids' movie (gender neutral)". makes for a greater market. mario isnt a very masculine series to begin with. it's just the right move to get more kids watching it if peach is also cool.
i really liked the animation and sound design. i dont think those are really under critique anywhere. the sometimes over the top sometimes subtle inclusion of classic mario leitmotifs really sold the whole atmosphere, and the use of video game sfx was charming as all get out, even if sometimes using the original game voice clips clashed with the voice acting.
the voice actors obviously tried to emulate the og voices at specific points but (again, german dub) didn't quite match the mark. really more of a "go big or go home" kind of thing. since even in the german versions of the games, the voices are in english, the characters used english phrases occasionally as well, which tracks for guys from brooklyn but feels odd on a woman who hasn't been to earth in 20 years.
the one who hit the og voice best was luigi's VA i think. turns out his german va also did like, every single prince/ken in all of the barbie movies. every single german VA is roles georg. "average VA has 400+ roles" no german VA georg, who has been voice acting since 1980--
the german VAs for mario and luigi dropped the accent as well but i think mario's VA is still better than chris pratt. turns out the guy just always voices any given chris pratt role in any movie for dubs, which is pretty common practice, as far as i can tell (to have a specific VA always dub over a specific actor)
the story i haven't said much on cuz like. what is there to say. it's an adventure movie silly shenigans happen. it was fun. didn't really need to be more. i did like that mario/peach was more hinted at than actually focusing on any romance. like you can tell that's the angle but it's not a big deal ykno? especially with peach so fervently rejecting bowser. they have post credits sequel bait in this so it wouldn't surprise me if it got developed in any future sort of mario movie. if we're adapting mama luigi can we please get daisy. no this isn't because i had a crush on daisy as a child. it's not. i just love her-- ah goddammit.
anyway. yeah. good animation servicable story neat references scattered throughout. it's a good kids adventure movie what else can i say.

Thinking about the dream cult from that one video-
Followers bringing Wil to their master (dream... draster? ) cuz 'he's neat :)' while Wilbur has literally no idea what's going on and is probably oblivious to the fact that he is
a) kidnapped/followed/nudged into the direction of a cult meeting place
b) standing in front of a cult leader rn
Idk maybe it's just sleepy karo talling nonsense. It's 00:30 and I still ahve to finishing washing lettuce
Wilbur going around stealing from random people to the point where, when he gets kidnapped by an actual cult, he just fully believes he's the one in control and that he's tricking them into bringing him to their base. He's actually bummed when it just appears to be a musty old place with cobwebs and lava and suspicious red stains on the ground.
Anyway, he gets brought in front of Dream, and the first thing he does is a) mention how creepy the mask is and b) ask why they're living in such conditions.
Dream is so stunned but also kinda in awe that he decides to give Wilbur a tour. Wilbur jumps at the chance because he's still trying to loot the place. He ends up giving genuine criticism that Dream actually takes into account, and then Dream just... gives him some diamonds and let's him be on his way.
So the entire time Wilbur is thinking he's outsmarted these fools, and Dream—some immortal cult leader—is just intrigued with this random mortal and wants him to come back.
The next time Wilbur gets kidnapped (because Dream wanted to see him again), he gives some praise on the changes they made to the base. Wilbur still doesn't think he was kidnapped because Dream gives him some more diamonds as """payment""" for his advice (really Dream just wants Wilbur to keep coming back), and thus Wilbur thinks he's just scammed these people really really well. So Wilbur gives some more advice for aesthetic changes (even if he doesn't really think they're necessary) just so he can continue being paid.
This goes on for a while. Eventually, Wilbur tries to bait Dream into going to dinner with him because he wants to see if he could get an expensive meal for free. But, at this point, Dream decides it'd be fun if he started pushing back against Wilbur. They have a pizza together and Wilbur's the one who ends up paying.
Now, this intrigues Wilbur. Because at first these people were just fools who kept getting him easy money. But, now, he's seen that Dream is equally as capable of getting people to do what he wants. So now Wilbur keeps coming back because it's turned into a sort of competition for the two of them; they're seeing who can turn the situation to their favor at any given moment.
Through it all, they actually become pretty close, and they both consider the other a dear friend, though at first neither one wants to admit it. Whilst this is happening, Dream's cult is becoming more well-known and feared, but Wilbur is just. still oblivious. It's not because he's unobservant—he's just become so focused on this little game he's playing with Dream. Tbh at this point he's basically an unofficial second leader of the cult because he likes seeing how often he can get Dream's weird cloaked friends (that's what he thinks the cult followers are) to do what he wants instead of what Dream wants. It surprisingly goes pretty 50/50 on whose orders the members of the cult will follow.
Eventually, through a wild series of events, the two end up married. Neither of them really knows which one started, but they were both so determined not to back down that they just let it happen. So, now they're married, and it's good for tax benefits at least. (They refuse to admit that they like each other's company, and they would never admit to actually enjoying the times they cuddle—they simply don't want to back down from whatever mind game the other is playing).
Sapnap & George (Dream's childhood best friends and high ranking members of the cult) have been watching this unfold, and they find it hilarious. They're happy to support the wedding. Phil's just glad his son is happy, even if the marriage is a bit unconventional. Techno knows who Dream & his cult are (has even sparred with him occasionally), but he finds Wilbur's unknowing connection to one of the most powerful cults in the world very amusing, so he never says anything to Wilbur.
It literally takes years after the marriage to find out. Wilbur gets kidnapped because a) he's basically the second leader of the cult and b) he's married to the first leader. The kidnappers try to get information out of Wilbur, and he keeps telling them that he doesn't know anything about any cult. It's not until he gets rescued that he learns about all of this.
("What do you mean you're the leader of a cult? What do you mean at the beginning you were kidnapping me?"
"Looks like I played you better than you played me. Guess I win our little game."
"Oh! So you admit it's a game! Ha! You folded first!"
"Wait no—")
Wilbur's very calm about it. Despite the chaos, there's actually a lot of domestic moments with Dream & other members of the cult he's befriended. In the end, Wilbur's actually glad he got kidnapped by a cult all those years ago—it did, after all, lead him to being married to someone he can confidently say is one of his favorite people.
#no one really understands their relationship#not even they do tbh#but everyone around them has had a wonderful time these past few years just observing them#madduo#stella answers#sioster
