Worked on a figure study for practice today that for some reason was just so difficult I almost made myself cry with frustration. Remembered that 1) anything worth doing is worth doing badly, 2) thinking your art doesn't look right is often a sign you're about to improve a level, and 3) it's just practice anyway!!
And then this evening I sat down and banged out three fanart sketches and felt a lot better about life.

Welcome to White's Gentlemen's Club (Pt.1)
White's Gentlemen's Club was founded in 1693 and is one of the oldest gentlemen's clubs in London. It has existed in its present location since the late 1700s. When men in Regency and Victorian novels speak about going to their clubs, this is one of them. Even today it remains a private, men's only club boasting King Charles III as a member (his bachelor party for his marriage to Diana was held there).
Because it's such a private space it was a nightmare to try to recreate as the information available was extremely limited. Pictures of the interior were rare and one of the main books I was able to find on the subject is rare and I couldn't get my hands on it. So while I made it as accurate as I could, within sims-constraints, there was also a lot of imagination poured into it. Because the save I was designing it for is modern, I didn't limit myself to only historical or off-the-grid pieces. That particular challenge can wait for the next time I try a Regency save.
The result is a Bar Lot, with plenty of space for games, parties, and socializing, as well as quiet corners to sit with a good book. And thankfully with LittleMsSam's Gender & More Lot Traits, I was able to make it accessible to only men, preserving that bit of accuracy.
The Facade and Layout
As seen at the top of the post, I did what I could to replicate the modern facade. Parts of this were easier than others. Although I had many of the needed objects from when I made the Hotel de Charost, the medallions on the front were difficult to find (in part because I didn't know any of the words to search them by). I couldn't find extant ones, so I made my own based on images I found online. Thank god for normal maps as they do a lot of the heavy lifting here.

The first sims-driven inaccuracy is the necessity to have floors of equal heights. As you can see from this cross section, that's not in fact the case. My build sacrifices the vaulted ceiling of the Coffee Room to allow the second floor to be of uniform height.

I was lucky to find this 1800s plan of the layout of the first two floors. I relied heavily on this for placing interior walls. My layout is seen below.

The Hall

I had nothing to rely on for this room. At all. As the entry hall I decided a closet was in order, if unlikely in reality (I really should have found better doors for it). I also found a reception desk that, when recolored and paired with a counter, provided a little administrative hub. I finally got around to tracking a filing cabinet down, which I ended up retexturing to maxis match.
The Morning Room

This was one of the few rooms I had a photo to work from, even if it was from a single angle, in black and white, and rather out of date. As such, I did my best to match it as well as possible. I tracked down magazines and newspapers and made a new spandrel to cleanly mimic the ones shown. I made new lamps and ceiling lights as well as new curtains, including extremely large ones to fit across the bow window. The bow window at White's is quite famous-- Beau Brummell used to sit there, critiquing the passersby, and the seat was also that of the Duke of Wellington for many years. I have a medallion over one fireplace here of him, which stands in for a bas relief of one of the deceased Kings'. The award below it stands for the silver belt won by Heenan after his fight with Sayers-- a "unsophisticated" visitor once asked "did the King win it," causing quite a bit of amusement. I also made a ceiling clock-- then, with the spandrels, had to lower it to fit below them.
The Foyer and Main Staircase

Staircases are always tricky. There was never any chance of achieving the elegant sweep of the real staircase, or the elegant little niches. there's an odd little window in the wall in the photo-- I suspect there was once a fireplace there. I did manage to replicate the numerous photos (even if some are there more for shape than content).
The Billiard Room

Why oh why are there not billiard tables in the Sims 4? These cc ones do work, and I'm grateful people have put in the time to make accoutrements for snooker, but it would be nice to have official ones. I have so many builds that would use them. This is another space that I had to make out of whole cloth, as I had only a few sparce bits of information. I put the main bar here, along with a small stage. The TV that the bar lot requires is hidden here.
Miscellaneous Ground Floor Spaces

There are some odd spaces which don't have labels. I turned one into a bathroom, as the drawings seemed to imply as much. Another became an old-fashioned place to make a phone call. One is, I believe, the old back entrance before it was enclosed to form the billiard room, hence the odd shape. I added a mirror to make it look bigger and these paintings (the left is the Duke of Wellington as the High Constable of England, a Tudor-style get up he had to wear for George IV's coronation, the right is a late 19th century imagining of Wellington's lone meeting with Nelson).

Ok I’m still agonizing about wanting to get a sterling ink planner or notebook so please enjoy (or not) this breakdown of my current system and the debate I’m having with myself re: what to purchase—under the cut

My current every day carry setup includes:
Paper republic A5 portfolio (note: too narrow to fit proper A5 comfortably, but perfect for moleskines)
Inside portfolio: blue moleskine for creative writing
Red moleskine for journal writing
Slipped into portfolio pocket: Log Book (where I keep track of what I did daily, monthly overview of events, monthly overview habit tracking, tracking when I water my plants, grocery and to-do lists) this is just made from maruman loose leaf paper I cut, stapled, and rounded the corners on
On top of the portfolio: A6 plain midori Mess Book (where I put anything and everything, doodles, stuff on the go, etc. it’s a mess)
Not in the everyday carry setup I have, at my desk:
A commonplace book
An ink notebook where I swatch, try mixes, do currently inked, keep track or purchases, and do transcription stuff.
Current issues with my system:
Main issue is that I got into fountain pens right after buying the portfolio and the moleskines.
The moleskines are not fountain pen friendly (the creative writing one is somewhat, but that’s the one I use the least frequently). This is partially why I bought the ink notebook, and entirely why I bought the midori mess book. Its main purpose is giving me a casual use book where I can use my fountain pens.
The portfolio doesn’t comfortably fit A5
I don’t want to abandon my moleskines 1/4 way through
I don’t want to abandon my portfolio at all
What I want, within the boundaries of not wanting to abandon any of my books, but feeling the itch to try out a sterling ink notebook or planner:
Something that can be my log book and my mess book at the same time. I make my log books every other month approximately and I’ll def be done my mess book by the new year, so I wouldn’t have to abandon them to replace them. They are similar in size, so I could easily combine them.
An A6 common planner would make most sense: log my days in the weekly pages, habit track in the quarterly sections, use the blank pages as mess book.
Issues that have me worried:
I want the horizontal weekly layout, but I like the two page spread like in the passport size. But passport is too small for the mess book and in A6 horizontal they cram all 7 days on one page, which is way too small.
Solution to this could be to get the vertical one and use it horizontally. This gives slightly more space. Still a bit worried because my current log book is just blank grid space, so I write as much or as little as I need and just draw a line between days

So the solution, if I decide that even the vertical version is potentially not enough space to log my days, is to just get the A6 notebook instead of the planner, and make my monthly overview spreads myself like I’m doing currently. Log my days from one end, do the mess book from the other.
I’m just a little lost and a little frustrated hat I wound up committing to journals that aren’t fountain pen friendly right before I got into fountain pens.
But even if I were to finish my moleskines and could replace them with a bigger planner, so I could log my day comfortably in the weekly section, and use the dailies for journaling I don’t know what I would do. This portfolio is just slightly too narrow for A5, and if I went with the B6, it would fit perfectly in width but have an awkward amount of empty space in length.
One thing I could do is get a compact B6 and keep the creative writing journal so at least one of the books would fill in the height of the portfolio. In this scenario, the B6 planner would be for log book and journal. And then I guess I could either get an A6 notebook from Sterling ink or another Midori for my mess book. But this scenario involves finishing my moleskine journal by the new year, or soon after I guess.
(Edit: the B6 horizontal only exists in full year. Don’t know if that would fit on top of the moleskine. So i would have to do B6 vertical 🥲)

webkinz room decorating tips!
hi. hello. welcome to property brothers: webkinz edition, where I give you some tips for decorating and designing rooms. 
play around with room sizes and placements! this might mean something like splitting one large room into one small room and one medium room because you had more items than originally thought, or something like starting with a small room and changing to a medium room or a large room when you want more space or have more items than originally thought.
that being said - don’t be afraid to fill up small and medium rooms! I find that I like my rooms to have most of the floor space filled, so don’t be afraid to fill up every corner of a small room or add things on counters or tables.
okay this might sound a little insane but when going through your dock, START AT THE END. like scroll allllllll the way to the end. this lets all your items load so your dock doesn’t do any of those weird jumps and you don’t lose your place. 
colors are key! how I start out designing a room is I scroll to the end of my dock and then work backwards and literally throw in ANYTHING that has the same color scheme or palette, and any item that matches the theme. don’t worry about the organization for now, cause if you remove anything from the room, it’ll just go in your recent items, which gives you a section of the dock to easily work with. like here’s a couple of rooms after that process:

like in the first picture I threw in items that were candy themed! and then right away I can kinda see that some of the items placed in there stick out, like they’re too dark or bold for the color scheme, or there’s not enough of that color in the room to pull it together. one way to identify those items is to take a step back or like. blur your vision - the first things your eyes are drawn too are probably the ones that don’t go, like this:

don’t be afraid to mix themes! what tends to make a room fit together is COLOR and STYLE. like I wouldn’t put a really angular table into a room that mainly has furniture with rounded edges, or vice versa. 
don’t shy away from wshop items! I know this might seem like a basic tip and sound kinda silly, but I used to avoid using wshop items because they weren’t rare/exclusive/etc. but wshop has some great items for room fillers, like simple plants, toys, rugs, and tables. plus, wshop has a lot of simple items that can go with a LOT of themes - things like the white rug or the golden side table or the party time windows. it’s a-okay to use an item that’s wshop or not “rare” if you like how it looks!
ask for help! while everyone has different tastes and will design rooms differently, putting an in-progress room in a group chat or a discord server can help you get some new ideas on how a room is organized, what to add to a room, or ideas for swapping out items.
look through other rooms for inspiration! I like to search pinterest (here’s my board of webkinz inspo) and go through the rooms Michael Webkinz posts on WebkinzNewz. you can see a lot of different themes and design layouts and get some inspiration for your house!
try and make different “areas” or “zones” in your rooms, so you have different places within the room itself! in a bathroom for example, I usually have a toilet zone, a bathtub zone, and a sink zone. or if I’m making a large room that has a bed, I’ll try and siphon off a little area for sleeping. rugs and dividers are great for helping you make these zones!
play around with the space and do what makes you happy! the beauty of webkinz rooms are that you can change them over and over again.
and lastly, while not webkinz, this video by polygon talks about how you can use real interior design tips to decorate your virtual rooms - in the video’s case, they use animal crossing, but I find a lot of the tips are helpful for webkinz too!

How does it work?
You can choose between a basic or themed character sheet. You can also choose whether the three empty sections are filled with information or illustration or left blank to be filled later.
See below for full details and more examples.
Basic Sheet
This sheet would be the layout of the beige coloured example above. You can customise the colour to fit your character's aethetic, either a solid colour background or perhaps a gradient of two colours and you may choose the aesthetic of the font (handwritten, elegant, bold, etc) and also the colour.
The sheet will come filled out, so even if you do not purchase an illustration commission, you will have mostly filled character sheet!
Themed sheet
This is a little more fun, along with the customised fonts and colours (as above) you can customise the boxes and layout a little bit. Below are fantasy and sci-fi themed ideas, just to give you a visual of what could be done for the sheet over all.
Is your character a Bounty hunter? I can add imagery to the boxes to look like a wanted dossier. Are they a wizard? I can add mage-like elements. These are a few examples I could do (within reason) for the sheet itself.
Sections
These are entirely up to you and what you want to put in them. As the above example roughly shows, you could include illustrations of your character, or their equipment or even a written passage about their backstory which you can provide.
Extras
The illustrations I can provide for the full sheet are a three quarter or knee-up illustration from flat colour to fully painted.
A bust illustration can fit in one of the sections, of an alternative look or more detailed look of the face.
I can also provide 3 - 5 equipment illustrations such as a weapon or two, accessories, etc depending on complexity.
If you would prefer, I could do a couple of headshots of different facial expressions in a simple flat colour finish.

Disclaimer. I think all supermarkets are horrible management wise, this is about how I feel inside them.
1. (a local business) (medium sized store)
This store is a local bulk goods store for restaurants, akin to Costco - but with far more reasonable bulk and prices. It is a cleancut, no funny business establishment. There is no trinkets to get distracted by, only the bulk food.
The layout has ceiling high aisles, while only having an average ceiling height. While some may call it cramped or claustrophobic, I enjoy these types of set ups, as I cannot see anyone in an aisle over and am generally alone in said aisle. Everything is neatly compartmentalized - one walk in fridge for meat, one for vegetables, one for dairy, and a walk in freezer on the other side of the store. The organization of the aisles make sense, and the aisles being quite long makes finding things related to one expertise quite easy.
The store is generally also quite unbusied, being local, alongside its parking lot fitting only around 10 cars. Music is for some reason playing in the fridge sections only, but I forgive them.
2. Walmart (supermarket)
This is a.. Quite steep decline in enjoyment, but it's not too awful. While being a supermarket like some of the lower tiers on this list, the high shelves and organization gives it a much higher step up to the others. Most trinkets in the grocery side of the store are within reason. However, it does lose a lot of potential with the quality and price of its fresh produce. Ignoring that I only trust one stores produce section, the price of fruits and vegetables is frankly ridiculous, and they are not even good quality. Walmart is good if you desire frozen foods or something from the non-food section of the store, though they are still not good priced.
3. Costco (supermarket)
Costco, to me, is the true neutral of this list. While I enjoy the shelf height, alongside bulk items, things are not categorized very clearly. Alongside that, the floor plan is incredibly open, which is both a blessing and a curse. There is plenty of space in the aisles, but that also means there is more people in them. The fresh produce price is, once again, not very good, even for bulk, but I'll let it slide. However, what is with the produce section being directly in the front of the deli, essentially smack dab in the middle of the store? Costco is impossible to just come in - go out, which I understand is on purpose, and I heavily dislike that.
4. Fredmeyers/Kroger (supermarket)
Originally, I was going to put this much lower on the list. Number 6, actually, but thinking it over, it's not too awful. This is the only store we trust buying fresh produce from, as they're generally cheap and I personally find the produce section quite nice. Everything is in the square, you can easily see across the whole section in case you skimmed over something. For the rest of the store, it's aisle height is.. Decent enough, but it leaves space for desire. Literally, why are the aisles so skinny? You're a big box grocery store and I can barely spin my cart around. The mingle of trinkets and only vaguely related items with the shelved food items peeves me quite a bit, mainly because I keep running into them. Whos idea was it to have bits and bobs hanging from the shelves pointing outward?
5. Dollar store/tree / Dollar 25 (small)
I have.. Quite a bit of anxiety with Dollar stores after passing out in one once, but I'll push my bias aside. It's a cheap store, plain and simple. That's the whole gimmick, and yet they also sell $5 items? What is this marketing inconsistency?
The aisles are high, but stuffed with nothing useful. I tend to stick to the snack and drink section of the Dollar Store, mainly to see what novelty food they have to sell. We used to get Faygo here a lot as nowhere else sells it, but I personally am disinterested. I prefer sparkling water.
The aesthetic is also quite gaudy. I couldn't tell you why, though.
6. Safeway (large)
Lets get it out of the way. The colors of choice are godawful. The brown of choice makes the entire store feel dim - though our specific Safeway also simply has bad lights. The point still stands, though, coffee brown does not work for a grocery store. There's a reason they're usually an off-white. It feels local without even being local.
Color gripes aside, there is an air of chaos to their aisles. What is this organization? How do I keep getting lost even though I'm looking up at the signs that show what aisle I'm in? And don't get me started about the produce section. While it is similar to Fredmeyers, it is a gross facsimile of the Fredmeyers produce section. It's fruit setup feels like I am trapped in an eternal pachinko machine, awkwardly bouncing against bumpers trying to figure out where the fuck the lemons are. This isn't even a height issue, as the fruit stalls have four sides and the fruit isn't always related. Why was there jackfruit with the oranges? What's happening? Where am I? Why is the clearance section a shelf at the end of the vegetable frigeration? What is it doing here?? Why is there a wedge between the fruit and fish/meat section that's of random boxed goods (ie cakes)? Why is there so much random space in areas they easily could have put something and so little space where they've shoved display cases into? Hello? Can anyone hear me?
I do not like Safeway.

Blog Post 35: Final Project 2: Week 6 Final Edits 
This blog focuses on the progress made during the sixth week of development for the secondary project, titled “Frost Generator.” In this blog we will discuss the final level design, and the accumulation of the final design of the project. This blog will also discuss the final edits what will be made at the end of the project.

As we draw closer to the finish line, I have to take a step back and examine the amount of progress I managed to make. While I am extremely excited about the results so far, I also feel a renewed sense of vigor towards creating new and more complex environments. Through the process of designing and developing several projects over the past months, I have polished new skills to a certain degree. Although I am still relatively new to the field, I am excited at the prospect of further developing my abilities in the future. 
PROGRESS: 
Finalization of the atmosphere and level layout 
My first goal was to complete the level layout by adding the final set of assets, including: 
New pipes, sleeves, valves, and wheels 
Mesh flooring 
Free Megascan snow piles and snow mountain assets

The second goal of this week was to establish a strong, dark atmosphere that would capture the essence of a cold winter night. For this purpose, I researched images of locations such as Alaska, the East Antarctic Plateau, and Vostok Station—all marked as some of the coldest places in the world.

Inspired by the winter atmosphere of these areas, I planned to recreate a dark and cold aesthetic in the level. EasyFog was used to generate fog patches, allowing me to replicate the hazy, chilling ambiance of a winter night.

Taking Inspiration from other games 
A crucial aspect of this project was allotting downtime to destress and relax. This time was primarily spent playing various games and consuming other entertainment content to both unwind and gather inspiration. Two standout sources of inspiration this week were:

New assets 
One of the key assets I managed to create this week, inspired by PVKK: Planetenverteidigungskanonenkommandant, was a collection of tightly connected pipes flowing along the bottom sections of the walls. I was thrilled to recreate this design in Blender, texture it, and export it to Unreal Engine for use in the level. These pipes now cover most of the lower sections of the project’s walls.

Another important asset inspired by a game was the pipe connector. This asset firmly connects pipes to either the floor or the walls, enabling larger pipe sections to run horizontally along surfaces.

The idea for this asset came from observing details during a playthrough of Alan Wake 2. I adapted the design into my level, giving it a more damaged and rusted look to fit the theme.

Problems Faced 
Making more than necessary 
The first problem I encountered while populating the level with assets was that I had created too many of them. Although this might seem like a blessing—extra practice, after all—it taught me an important lesson: to create with purpose instead of for the sake of it. Initially, I imagined needing certain assets for specific scenarios without realizing that this cost me precious time—time that could have been spent creating, polishing, or refining other elements.

Lighting 
As mentioned in the previous blog about the first project, I experienced issues with dull colorization and darkness when viewing the level on different displays. Upon thorough review, I realized this issue was caused by the peak brightness levels of my OLED monitor, which displayed a brighter image compared to non-OLED screens. To address this, I tweaked the exposure, bloom, and volumetric fog density settings within Unreal Engine’s post-processing volume. 
Final Thoughts 
This week’s progress marks a significant step forward in achieving the final vision for this project. While challenges arose, such as asset overproduction and lighting discrepancies, the solutions taught me valuable lessons about efficiency, workflow optimization, and technical refinement. With these accomplishments in hand, I feel more inspired than ever to take on future projects with even greater ambition and creativity.
