sits down. I love analyzing and dissecting media and characters I like and this is a post for just that. it's several rambles in one

(spoilers for inanimate insanity / ii18. mostly talking about knife and suitcase)

'I can't protect you anymore' 'I never needed your protection' but she did. there was a time suitcase couldn't stand up for herself, where she didn't know how to defend herself, and knife showed her how. or at the very least, he gave her tips on how to do it, and was there for her in a way nobody else was. (really, what knife calls 'protection' is more like 'guidance' in a lot of cases. but that's a tangent for another time because I could genuinely spend hours talking about knife)

the first moment that comes to mind is suitcase immediately folding when trophy yells at her, but it comes up in most of her interactions with nickel and baseball prior to the conversation on the dock between her and knife. if you only know how to be one thing (the 'pushover' thing in this case), you do need someone to show you how to be something else sometimes. and knife was the guy, because he very much knows how to handle himself and, ultimately, doesn't want others to deal with the same stuff he's used to

I think about the scene where lightbulb stuck the invisibow on suitcase very often, and how it was knife who took it off her and broke it. he didn't know about the hallucinations yet, but he's seen the way she's gotten upset, knows how she sounds when she is, and fast, deep breaths usually aren't a good thing in general. while it was triggered by something, it's still one of the worst moments suitcase has in relation to hallucinations/seeing things that aren't there. despite her being more than capable of handling herself, in the moment I sincerely doubt her ability to have gotten out of that one without outside help

on top of that knife's seen the 'floating bowties' before and so it checks out that he has a good idea of why it's unsettling, plus the fact that in the exact same scene, knife also reacts to the thing- first with shock, then glancing off, and finally glancing around a bit. his realizing 'oh. it's not just me who saw.' is pretty huge and is one of the few times we see knife displaying some semblance of guilt. tbh I think he was genuinely considering admitting to seeing taco before the invisibow was put on suitcase and the energy in the group shifted; his 'no more distractions' after breaking it is also partially to himself. don't focus on what's in the past, it's already done. moving forward is all you can do.

there's definitely some element of protecting/guiding when it isn't needed, sure, but suitcase did need it before she grew into her own. and on knife's end, that's how he shows he cares. he protects because it ensures safety and consistency, two things which are very important to him

knife guides suitcase and helps her become able to stand up for herself and still remain the kind-hearted, empathetic person that she is. suitcase, in turn, teaches knife that it's okay for him to not have his walls up 24/7 and that he can afford to be genuine with others and still retain his "kill or be killed" worldview

seeing knife and suitcase talk to each other is so. raugh.

knife can cut deep into others verbally but I don't think he ever does with suitcase unless the circumstances are dire, and even then he holds back; he could go for the throat but he never does with her (primarily thinking of ep7, where he tells her to mind her own business but says nothing else, then has an interaction with balloon shortly after where he gives a comment so scathing balloon literally deflates over it). suitcase responds well to his blunt way of speaking because it's very 'this is what's up', but it still allows her room to add input and she knows he'll listen. she also knows him well enough to pick out what he's really saying, not what others think he's saying.

suitcase on the other hand grows to be able to not only take what knife dishes out but throw it right back at him without any fear of losing him/the bond they have for doing so, and she's also not afraid of him attempting to hurt her either. she says a lot of words and knife listens to every single one she says, because he recognizes that each word she says is important to her and thus it's important to him; suitcase knows this in turn despite it never being stated aloud. she's the only one who doesn't lie once in ep15, and she sticks to what she wants to say regardless of how it might affect others

I think the only time they both REALLY fling hard-hitting insults at each other/have a serious argument is at the end of ep17… which is something they're doing to stall for time, and to make it seem genuine they literally have to, otherwise the whole plan falls apart. they both know it's an act, though, and thus they know that neither of them would say those things to the other normally. ironically that probably was really healthy for them both to do bc they're getting it out to the intended recipient in a way that won't come back to bite either of them, and I don't know where to even BEGIN with regard to just how much trust you'd have to have with someone to AGREE to hit each other where it hurts

[punching the wall] the extent to which suitcase just shatters the lines of what she was made to be. multiple times over.

the first thing is suitcase's voice starting to drop in pitch. the second is her standing up for herself and what she believes in. what matters. and it goes on from there- she starts speaking her mind, making her own choices, taking control of her life. she sticks to her guns even after finding out everything's fake because it's real to her no matter what anyone else says.

her not leaving any time for questions and taking charge for everyone else's lives? coming up with the plan to kill cobs and mouthing 'don't move' at the others who go to get the egg back? telling everyone that they're not helpless? it's in the name of kindness, and doing what's right, and facing the core issue, and a bunch of other things

this one was meant to be typed out to a friend first but eh, I can stick it here. another scene I think about is the very end, where suitcase starts hallucinating and knife reaches out to comfort/help her

and his hand goes right through her

and yet that's enough to pull her out of it.

I've seen it described elsewhere as knife waving at her to calm her down and like, okay, but I really don't think that's what it is. this is partially due to the whole possession thing the ghosts can do and the fact that they, like- still have a presence? in ep11 I think, bow goes to hug marshmallow and while part of her body phases through marshmallow, her arms/hands don't. this is probably due to the limitations at the time, or it might've just looked confusing to viewers if the arms looked randomly cut off. point is that bow's arms don't go through marshmallow

knife is very new to being a ghost. he figures out throwing stuff pretty easily, but he doesn't seem to have 'holding' things down yet, meanwhile bow and dough are both seen with a cell phone and a tape recorder respectively. they may just be 'holding' those items in the correct spot but they still Do It. and I mean- you'd have to have enough of a presence in order to do that, right

the show is FULL of micro-expressions. you can go back to just about any scene and replay it several times, and you'll likely catch a new micro-expression on someone's face that you missed before. if knife was unable to do anything to help suitcase, I'm pretty sure the directors and writers would've made the decision to cut back to him and show knife's horror upon realizing that this part of suitcase's life is also her own too. that he's helpless to do anything but watch as she struggles to and eventually pulls herself out of it

but he isn't. he occupies enough presence that even his hand phasing through her briefly can help her. her resulting smile is a sad one, I think, but one that's still full of gratitude

knife is, in fact, still here. suitcase is, too. it's different than what it was, but it's okay.

scott: literally bro does not know how to feel. okay, on a serious note, he still loves maddie and he thinks maybe he just always will but he can tell she’s trying to move on from him, for both their sakes, and he wants to try to as well. he still loves maddie, but he definitely makes a conscious effort to avoid her to begin with, to try and hey his thoughts around her in order. he still loves maddie, it’s just messy

jean: she tries to look at maddie as a sister more than anything, it makes it easier to view her as her own person and makes it all easier for jean to deal with. there are definitely still times where it’s hard or awkward or just a stark reminder of everything sinister did, and she struggles to move on from maddie and scott, but she has a connection with maddie no one else could, and they do get on well

morph: they… don’t know how to feel. they want to be supportive and they do enjoy maddie’s company! it’s just. sometimes they’re reminded of when she was controlling them and then they’re even more harshly reminded of everything with sinister and it’s just. a lot to be honest. for the most part though they get on well with her and are always ready to help if she needs anything

rogue: spends a lot of time away from the mansion while she grieves. she gets on fine with maddie when they interact but part of her that struggles to be around her because she’s just another reminder that some of them survived genosha, and not others. rogue knows it’s an unfair way to think, but it definitely keeps her more closed off

jubilee: she’s happy to have one more woman is the house! she tries to be helpful and sometimes she doesn’t quite go about it the right way but she always has good intentions. she absolutely swamps maddie’s things in stickers. no one knows where she gets them all

wolverine: he will never admit it but there is a part of him that thinks briefly, maybe he could pursue her instead of jean. it makes sense, but it also doenst because none of this makes sense and it’s easier to just not think about it. he’s pretty sure romance is the last thing maddie wants after everything anyways. mostly he just talks to her when jubilee drags him along (which is often)

beast: he’s the most involved with maddie’s recovery after genosha so they do bond a fair bit. he’s also still quite interested in her clone-y-ness so he is constantly trying to pry into how much she and jean are still connected. madelyne doesn’t like it but she can’t really stop him. she does call him out when he takes it too far, though. he apologises with ice cream

kurt: does not actually officially live here he’s just here now tbh. he loves having maddie around though, they got close working in genosha and he very much views her as a sister of sorts. he teleports her around when she doesn’t feel like walking

+ roberto: also doenst offically live here. he doesn’t know what’s going on at any point ever tbh but he gets on fine with maddie

AITA for refusing to babysit?

I(17 ftm) frequently babysit my siblings, D(4m) and J(7m). J doesn't need to be babysat as much as supervised, but he's very needy / always wants to be doing something together, so I usually spend as much active time babysitting him as much as I do D(for example, J refuses to read on his own and prefers it when I read to him).

We're currently in the middle of moving, and my mom(44 W) often will drop me and the kids off at the library or the park or something for hours so that she can pack. I don't super mind this, but it's exhasting. They fight like cats. And I love them, but I'm also going into my senior year in a couple days, so I've been a little irratable too from the stress of packing and school and whatnot. This is all to say I've been babysitting a LOT recently.

My mom wanted me to babysit tonight for about two hours so she could take J to his open house and meet his teachers for the upcoming school year. I was 100% okay with this, and came downstairs when it was about time for them to leave. D gets a lot of seperation anxiety though, so when I heard my mom and him in the kitchen near the back door I knew she was probably trying to leave, so I got up came in to try and help. I tried to distract him by getting him to play with me at the table, but he wouldn't listen. As things progressed I also tried to comfort him and say we should go watch a show on the couch, but that also didn't work. At this point J is in the car and mom is standing in the doorway.

Mom then leaves to walk to the car, but doesn't shut the door, which makes D try and follow her out. He's crying and yelling at this point about how he "wants to leave". I was trying to very gently pull him back and say we could watch them go and wave as they pulled out, but I didn't want him leaving the doorway, since it would be 100% harder to get him back inside once he actually left the house.

A huge ass butterfly flew by while we were doing this. I tried to distract him and say "look at the butterfly!!" but it didn't work and he kept yelling he "wants to leave". MOM them mishears and starts yelling at me to let him go, so I do, but then he's outside and I'm frustrated. She tells me he was ACTUALLY saying he "wants to SEE", i.e. the butterfly, and now it's gone and he's more upset because I wouldn't let him see. When asked, he cried and said he WAS saying he wanted to see. But I KNOW he was saying leave at first, and tbh Mom was kind of asking him leading questions when asking if he was saying wants to see about the butterfly, so I tried to explain that he was at least not saying see at first.

She keeps pushing it though until I'm done and I say "Whatever, are you going to leave or not?", because at this point there's only 20 minutes left to get there. I genuinely didn't think this was a huge conflict at this point? Like yeah we were arguing but I didn't think we were being personal, idk. It was pretty dumb and we were both stressed. I thought it was gonna be one of those things where we're both friends again by the time she gets back and we've cooled down.

But then she told me to go fuck myself. And that was too much for me, because I feel like cursing at someone is just really disrespectful, and something I try not to do at all in arguments, especially with people I love. I'm not against cursing during arguments, but cursing at me like that felt really mean.

I was properly angry at that point and told her to just go so I could babysit. She told me to get a job(???? she's refused to get me a workers permit for years now), and I finally snapped and said she should just take D with her, then shut the door.

I did NOT lock the door. I didn't even fully close the door. I just left the kitchen and sat on the couch instead, staying downstairs in case she came back in and told me again to babysit(which I still would have, for J's sake). For context, D WAS allowed to go to the open house with mom and J, she just didn't want to have to take him too.

My mom is now giving me the silent treatment. They apparently weren't even able to go to the open house because mom's car wouldn't start, and now J is very sad and anxious about the first day of school. Mom's also been snipping about how if I hadn't refused to babysit and wasted so much time arguing with her, she might have been able to get a different ride.

Idk. I know he argument was dumb, but I feel like she crossed a line with cursing at me like that. But I could also see how me refusing to babysit from then might have been too far. AITA?

Someone on reddit asked, "What do you hate about The Hostage chapter?" and i was like, "oh, it's my time to shine."

My reply, copied from reddit:

Tbh, Captain Allen's flippant response to Connor. But not for the reasons other people have commented. Yes, he was needlessly antagonistic. Yes, he should have kept his calm, and not escalated the situation.

But i understand that he was under a lot of stress, two of his men had been shot, an officer from the local PD was dead, Emma was currently being dangled off a very tall building, and Allen was being made to wait an hour for a fresh-off-the-line android to show up so CL could test out their new toy, when at any time, the deviant could jump. There was no guarantee in his eyes that it'd even work, for all he knew, Connor could still have some bugs to patch, and if he failed, a little girl would die. I'd be unbelievable angry in that situation, too.

No, what i don't understand is why Captain Allen knows absolutely NOTHING about the deviant. Connor asks him two questions, and he can't answer the first, and refuses to answer the second. Now, he could just be angry because of all the aforementioned reasons, plus Connor seems to be asking nonsensical questions from his standpoint (Who cares what the deviant's name is? We don't have time for that), but his response to the first question (and it's the same for all 4 questions Connor can ask) gives me the impression he knows absolutely nothing. Which is ridiculous, because that means he's been essentially sitting with his thumbs up his ass for an hour while Emma was in constant danger.

SWAT teams very rarely go into a mission blind, they are briefed on the situation before being deployed, or updated on the go. They know the importance of learning every bit of information about the situation as possible. For them, it can mean the difference between life or death. Especially for a hostage; standard procedure is to learn every single tiny detail you can about the kidnapper's life and motives. This is a big part of hostage negotiation, Allen should be familiar with this considering his job title. This is what he should have been doing, before he got the call that Connor was coming.

In addition, i don't know if Allen ever became a detective before he entered SWAT, but i know that every SWAT personnel must spend at least 2 years as a beat cop, same as everyone else. SWAT usually spend many years as regular officer, some gaining a higher rank, before tranferring. And even a lowly officer knows to 1) assess the situation, 2) learn the how (figure out what happened), 3) learn the why (figure out why this happened).

So.......you question the witnesses.

Emma's mother was there, being escorted out of the premises as Connor arrived. She would be a key witness, as she was presumably in close contact with Daniel often, making sure Emma did her homework, drafting grocery lists, delegating tasks, etc. And buying a new android to replace your old one is not a secret you would keep in a marriage. They're pretty pricey, and that would generally be a joint financial decision. She had to have known her husband bought the AP700.

Allen could have been questioning her....but i have my doubts. He doesn't know Daniel's motive. He doesn't know if this is out of character for him. Hell, he doesn't even know Daniel's name. So what the hell was he doing for that entire hour before Connor showed up?

Why the hell doesn't he know anything about the android he's trying to rescue a 10 year old hostage from??

I don't think Allen and his team was there planning to negotiate at all, and I might be wrong but from what I gathered from a quick research, SWAT doesn't typically do negotiation on their own, they have optional Crisis Negotiation Team attached to them (?) which although works closely with SWAT isn't exactly a part of it. Moreover, from their POV it's a case of a broken machine, not an actual hostage-taker with human motives that are even worth looking into as such — android took a hostage not because it had a reason to but just because it was faulty, end of story. You don't negotiate with a crazy robot, because it's not a person with motives. Even Connor is there wording it as "errors in his software".

So, I think Allen doesn't know those things because he doesn't exactly find them relevant on the first place, his job is to come up with an armed strategy aka the position of snipers, the helicopter, etc, like all those people around the area are organised by Allen, that's what he's been doing. Their team just wants to shoot the android in the right enough way without any negotiation, that's what I think is happening.

As you said, they escorted Caroline in the beginning of the chapter, which means they probably assessed the situatsioon of what and how happened from her words. So it is possible she didn't know the motive herself, so even from her POV Daniel just got bonkers out of the blue. And once again, in their eyes it's not exactly a hostage-taking as it is a case of a broken machine, something not reasonable to talk to. They might have as well be called in a scene with an armed monkey, a wild animal pet that got aggressive. Who gives a shit if there was a reason, it's a wild animal, it's not exactly an acceptable course of action to talk to it and reason. That's why Allen is do annoyed, I think, he sees it as ridiculous to even try to talk to something that doesn't actually understand you. A waste of time.

And regarding what Caroline even knew about tue situation... Buying a new android could really well have been a decision made on a whim because Really, have you seen how rich those people are? Ten grand for them can be an impulsive purchase, even people who Don't have the money sometimes make crazy expensive purchases they can't afford just because they suddenly decide to make a bad financial decision, and then they buy a used sports car just because they saw it on sale and it was slightly lower price and higher quality than usual or something. Things like this happen.

I honestly wonder if Caroline herself even knew about this decision at all, and I think, it's entirely possible she did not. It might have been a surprise from John's side. It might have been even that John's plan wasn't actually to replace an android but just to buy another one, for whatever purposes, without talking to Caroline prior. And if you look at the timing, Daniel shoots him pretty much immediately after he hit the purchase button. Even if Caroline did know about the plan to buy a new model (if there was indeed a plan), do you think she'd have a chance to connect the two things in such a short notice, possibly not having an opportunity to know that John proceeded with the purchase at THAT evening?

So yeah, I don't think the things you listed are really a fault of a chapter tbh. I love it the way it is, I think it makes sense. The only thing I find regrettable about this chapter is that it's barely ever mentioned later on in the game.

Toph and Zuko, Headcanon

Generally, I don't ship noncanon ships, but in this case, I'd say this is less of a case of noncanon and more a case of after canon. After all, ignoring LOK (which I'm rather more than happy to do tbh) the last we see of these two they are still children--we don't know what their future holds.

But I want to work within the bounds of canon as much as possible--leaving ATLA as is, and working off character established in canon but working forward.

I talked in another post about the idea that Zuko and Toph would work well together as a adults for a few reasons. Firstly, personally I like the idea of the core six (that is, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Suki, Toph and Zuko) being paired off. I think they went through an experience together that is so singularly unique, it would be hard to ever find another person who could understand it quite the same way. I also think that given a lot of their issues, trust would be hard to achieve.

(More under the cut bc I'm just rambling now lol)

Now, I know in canon Zuko has Mei, but he's 16 and she's familiar. I got the feeling that Mei and Zuko were more of a "it's what you do" couple than one with any sort of lasting power. I'm not saying they didn't love each other--I think they certainly did, but I also think they were very young and they were both going through sort of a big life change. When Zuko gets together with Mei, he's teetering on the edge of trying to find out who he is and what he wants for his life. Mei is very much a person that old Zuko would have been with--she makes sense for him in that life. And I think there is genuine affection between them--but I also think a lot of it is tied up with other feelings. Her best friend's older brother she maybe always had a little crush on, the rebel son, etc. That she does eventually support his choices to change is a good thing, but I don't know that I see their relationship lasting into the future. Zuko still has a long way to go and a lot to handle when he becomes Fire Lord at 16--I think he probably isn't exactly going to be focused on a relationship all that much in the beginning, and frankly, I think Mei needs to to figure out who she is without the context of Zuko and his sister, since her entire life seems to revolve around their family. I could see their relationship sort of slowly backing off until they eventually end things mutually, no hard feelings, just a natural sort of ending to a childhood romance.

For Zuko, I imagine he would then spend most of the rest of his time not in a relationship. He's dealing with a lot with his country and his family and dealing with forgiving and understanding himself--again, I doubt a relationship is the priority. He probably maintains close contact with most of the Gaang--Aang in particular probably makes it a point to come see him, and I can see him and Sokka still having pretty close contact, especially with Sokka stepping up as the future leader of the Southern Water tribe and etc.

Toph, I think, would be dealing with a lot of similar issues to Zuko. Both of them are trying to define what home means--Zuko in the place he grew up that he both recognizes and doesn't, and Toph unable to go back because she isn't sure what she'll find. I imagine Toph spends some time with Aang, Katara, and Sokka, but it's not like she would particularly be comfortable at the poles in ice and snow, and I also think she'd want the chance to explore, to see the world, to find out who she is and what she wants from life. So around a yearish after the end of the world she sort of goes out on her own into the world and starts a sort of long, wandering slow journey. She stops along the way to do various things: sometimes she works, sometimes she helps others, sometimes she just sight sees, sort of goes where whim takes her. She sees most of the Gaang often enough, with how much the others travel, but I'd imagine she hardly ever sees Zuko (as he is busy running a kingdom).

Now we get into deep headcanon territory. I had seen it posited that Sokka invents a version of braille (in a fanfiction I believe, though I'm not sure if the idea started somewhere else, and I honestly can't recall the fanfic), and I like this idea, both because it makes sense for Sokka to do something like this, and also because it gives Toph a way to continue a bit of a relationship with Zuko whilst traveling. So basically for about the next 6 years or so, Toph and Zuko exchange letters while she travels around. They have a lot they can relate on, and talk about family and belonging and guilt and love and etc, as best they can. But they don't see each other much--maybe once or thrice throughout the intervening years, as they both grow up.

Then, when Toph is about 18/19 (making Zuko 22/23) he gets word from Toph that she's in jail and needs a bail out. At this point, he's tired, a little overwhelmed, and he's been a little lonely lately (Aang and Katara are married and still sort of in the honeymoon phase, Sokka is super busy with building a city in the south and all his various projects, Suki is the leader of his secret police so he sees her often but she's also often abroad) and so he basically decides to go get Toph himself. He hasn't seen her in a while, he misses his friend, and he's also more than a little curious as to why she's in jail in the middle of a nowhere town at the ass-end of the Fire Nation.

Toph, for her part, had written both because she hadn't wanted to bug the others and also because Zuko still owes her a Life Changing Field Trip and she's ready to collect. And also because she misses him maybe a little and also she knows he could maybe use a break.

So Zuko shows up and Toph is A Woman now and his poor little brain is like, trying desperately to square this information in his mind because of course he knew she wasn't 12 any more but also he wasn't expecting her to look Like That and also Toph can sense you know, everything, and she's trying to be chill also because it's just Zuko only Zuko spent the past 6 years stress working out and also somewhere along the way became A Man but this is fine and everything is fine and they are still friends right?

So Toph convinces him to play hooky for a while and come with her to track down some asshole (working on those details--some person scamming refugees maybe or something with disappearing kids? and she's trying to get to the boss) and Zuko is tired and overwhelmed and also maybe a little bit smitten and he agrees and then they go on the Life Changing Field Trip only this one is the one where they fall in love.

And it's the easiest thing they've ever done and the hardest thing all at once. Because they understand each other and they are determined to be more than their parents and together they heal.

I have so many little headcanons and one shots and larger story arcs bouncing around in my head with all this, and bless @bonesingerofyme-loc for thinking them all through with me.

I have actually written some ficlets, but they are currently pretty rough and disjointed (it's been a while since I've written) and I'm not entirely sure if I want to save them to write into a cohesive story, or tell their story in parts as I am inspired. I sort of have some scene ideas and others being build off prompt lists. I might share disjointed here and then wait to publish on AO3 until I decide what I what to do, but I'm not sure.

I will, however, share the very silly headcanons that Leo and I came up with. My Toko/Zutoph tag will be otp: it's me if you want more of my dumbass thoughts on these two lol. (Like what Toph did to end up in jail and how Sokka got Zuko's wedding invite and wasn't sure who the bride could possibly be and how Aang knew from the beginning but never said bc it wasn't polite or how Toph refuses to let Zuko ask for her parent's permission and he's like, dying slowly over the propriety of it all or how he courts her Properly™ once they are back in the capital and Toph is secretly thrilled or or or. Also Leo may have maybe made some AI adult Toko pics I can share that killed us both lol. )

A little while ago, I made this post where I typed all of the DPA characters as their possible MBTI types. I enjoyed thinking about it, so I thought I would go ahead and share my analysis for each of the characters!😊

Andrew (INFJ): Andrew was one of the easiest DPA characters for me to type. INFJs are the "Advocate" or the "Counselor." Both INFJs and ENFJs typically fill the role of the group mediator, due to their combination of Introverted Intuition (Ni) and Extroverted Feeling (Fe). For INFJs, Ni is their primary cognitive function, which essentially relates to their desire to figure things out. They find themselves in their own head very often, trying to make sense of various concepts or ideas. We see this with Andrew, as he spends the majority of the game trying to figure out what's going on and how they're connected with their doubles from the past. Fe is INFJ's secondary cognitive function, which relates to the "mediator" or "counselor" aspect of their personality type. Andrew pleads for the other characters to stop their fighting when it's clear to him that the arguing is not helping them figure out what's going on. Finally, INFJs essentially have a "chameleon" personality, which enables them to get along with almost any type of personality. We also see this with Andrew, as he's the only character who gets along pretty well with every other character. At the same time, unfortunately, this can also make it hard for them to really know who they truly are, and it can also make it harder for other people to understand the INFJ as well as the INFJ understands others. I personally believe I am an INFJ myself and I related a lot to Andrew tbh, so I feel pretty good about this typing haha

Taylor (ENFP): ENFPs are the "Campaigner" or the "Champion." An ENFP's primary function is Extroverted Intuition, which Taylor certainly exhibits with her consistent desire to see if there's another path or another way to go about things, for example. Ne also has a tendency to want to focus on big picture stuff, rather than small details. Taylor recognizes that the town of Little Hope sucks and has some bad mojo going on, and she's more interested in simply getting out than she is in determining just why it sucks. I also believe her Ne is the reason she wanted to stay at the bus instead of going further into the town, because she had a feeling that the town was bad news. Speaking of feelings, an ENFP's secondary function is Introverted Feeling, which Taylor definitely exhibits when she opens up to Daniel about finally feeling like part of the group. She talks about what does and what doesn't feel right to her, which is a big indicator of Fi. Fi users have strong beliefs and base their morals off of what they feel is right or wrong, rather than basing them off of what other people feel is right or wrong. Taylor knows how she feels about the town and she is willing to fight on behalf of her feelings & beliefs, which we see her do when she argues with John about it. ENFPs are also very spirited, high-energy people, just like Taylor. They can be a little silly and they're not afraid to be themselves, as they often have their own ways of doing things. I feel pretty good about typing Taylor as a spirited ENFP!

Daniel (ESFP): I went back and forth on Daniel, but I feel good about typing him as ESFP. ESFPs are the "Entertainer" or the "Performer." An ESFP's primary function is Extroverted Sensing, which relates to seeking out experiences and simply wanting to do things, even if it's just for the sake of doing them. Upon Daniel & Taylor being returned to the group through the fog, Daniel immediately has to go back through the fog to see if it happens again. He doesn't stop to think about it, he just does it because he doesn't want to waste any time pondering what just happened. When you think about the scientific method, the step of hypothesizing comes before the actual experimentation; but not for Se users- they always skip right to the actual experiment so they can reach their conclusion faster. Daniel also doesn't hesitate to reach for the little girl hiding in the playground, and there are also a few other instances where he acts immediately. Similar to ENFPs, an ESFP's secondary function is also Introverted Feeling. When Taylor objects to Angela about the idea of Daniel being her boyfriend, Daniel immediately takes it personally, believing that Taylor doesn't want to think of him that way. He seeks reassurance from her, and it's interesting to see 2 secondary Fi users try to reassure each other throughout the game. Similar to Taylor, Daniel knows how he feels about the town and about what's happening to their doubles, and he is also willing to fight for his own beliefs.

Angela (ISTJ): ISTJs are the "Logistician" or the "Inspector." An ISTJ's primary function is Introverted Sensing, which relates to simply observing facts and taking things for what they are. Si is different from Se in that, while Se users just want to do things, Si users tend to watch things and make their judgments based off of what they observe. Angela acknowledging the fact that her demon only started pursuing her once her double was executed is an example of Si. She doesn't need to analyze why the demon chased her after her double was drowned, it's enough for her to understand that your double dies = a demon tries to kill you. ISTJs are very fact-oriented due to their Si. An ISTJ's secondary function is Extroverted Thinking, which typically lends itself well to administrative or leadership roles. This could be why Angela criticizes John's leadership and his inability to make decisions- because her Te would arguably make her a better leader, and it can sometimes frustrate Te users when they have to follow someone who doesn't lead with the same decisiveness. An ISTJ's primary Si mixed with their secondary Te can also cause them to make blunt observations about people, which is similar to how Angela outright refers to Daniel as Taylor's boyfriend upon observing that the 2 of them seem to like spending so much time together. All in all, Angela is a very practical ISTJ character who isn't afraid to say things like they are and she doesn't want to mess around.

John (ENTP): John was definitely one of the hardest DPA characters for me to type, as I'm still going back & forth on him tbh. He's definitely a T type, but I don't believe he's a J type, as xxTJs are typically more assertive & sure of their decisions, which we know is something John struggles with. I also believe he's an intuitive rather than a sensor, so that narrows it to xNTP. Here's where it gets tricky: choosing between INTP & ENTP isn't as simple as figuring out whether he's more introverted or extroverted. The question is whether his primary function is Extroverted Intuition or Introverted Thinking. I can definitely see him being an ENTP, as they are known for "playing Devil's Advocate," which John arguably does by accusing Mary of being the source of evil within Little Hope. ENTPs are the "Debater" or the "Visionary." ENTPs like to question almost anything and everything as a way to learn more about the world in which they live. They will never back down from an intellectual challenge, and they're also not afraid to question other people on their ideas or points of view. We can see John do this, as he's not afraid to disagree with the other characters when they give their opinion on what's going on. He challenges Taylor on her desire to wait at the bus, he challenges Andrew on his stance of trying to defend Mary, etc. His primary Ne mixes with his secondary Ti to think outside the box and work to discover other possibilities that make sense to him & what he believes to be true. He humors Taylor & Daniel about their claim that the fog led them back to the group, he proposes the idea to Andrew to burn the poppet they find in the museum in case it's the source of the evil, he tries to think of any possible ways that they can help their doubles from the past. I think I feel good saying he's an ENTP!

Matthew Taylor

He likes sports but he does actually try to engage with his friend's hobbies- e.g going shopping with Em and Jess, and he's definitely sat and listened to Mike rant abt politics or sth before. Hannah's bugs made him get over any fear he had of insects.

He's very patient and friendly but when he gets mad he gets MAD. (we see that in game anyway tho tbh).

Ashley often helps him with homework.

He has ADHD.

He has a younger sister.

He has pet guinea pigs that he loves and Jess always jokes she only hangs out with him for them.

He's pansexual.

He's had a tiny little crush on Josh before.

He was decent friends with Mike before everything.

Even after him and Em break up he stays as a close friend of hers.

He's a bit of a pushover.

Michael Munroe (I'll be as nice to him as I can).

After UD he develops a fascination with wolves.

He's not actually as well-off as some of the other kids in the group, and he's sort of insecure about it which led to him putting up his whole confident guy charade which evolved into him being a massive dickhead.

His mother passed away when he was young and his Dad is an asshole. He spends most of his time out of his own house and his own bedroom is quite empty.

He scares quite easily and when he's alone he often ends up talking to himself just so there's a distraction.

When he's alone his whole persona comes crashing down. Part of why he fears isolation.

He has ADD, and he also has narcisstic traits.

He's also autistic but thats more me and my friend projecting when we write him lol.

He's pretty smart in the subjects he likes but he lacks common sense and does lots of dumb things.

He lived in Florida until he was 14.

He's demiromantic bisexual.

He needs to feel useful or he gets quite upset. This often ends up with him taking on the sort of 'leader' role in the group.

He tends to clash with Josh a lot, and Beth.

Christopher Hartley

He's not a massive fan of animals. He's either scared of them or complains about them being dirty/diseased.

He's trans.

He isn't into doing sports but he is surprisingly strong.

He's autistic.

He knows basically everything about technology and fuck all about anything else.

He did not pay attention in most of his subjects and then would end up going to Ashley for help and she'd scold him.

When he was young and first met Josh's sisters he was just. Amazed by the fact Hannah was allowed to be a girl.

He had a short-lived crush on Hannah as a kid. And it was mostly envy.

When he was a kid he had long hair, which he complained about until he got a 'compromise' with sort of medium hair length. When he was 15 he chopped it all off himself and has had it short ever since. (he was also in so much trouble).

He has quiet bpd. (this is sort of projection ignore me pls. I have my reasons I am not going to explain them here).

He's biromantic demisexual.

He's pretty much always had a massive crush on Josh that he barely realised.

He's generally just kind of a disaster bi.

He's very quick to get defensive and upset.

He tends to go way too far with pranks and the only people who can ever really reel him back in are Josh and Ashley.

Concubinage Behind the Scenes - ch. 7

So apparently I forgot to cross-post a couple of these "behind the scenes" posts for my longfic I wrote a couple years ago, and since I'm about to resume this series, now's a good time to post them, starting where we left off at chapter 7.

Aftermath of the beating

Thankfully, Arst was able to heal himself somewhat, so he's... well, still in pain, but less pain that he could have been. Not that it changes much—he's the type to push through and pretend he's fine anyway.

Plus, as I've mentioned before, he's got some practice at enduring beatings—and the ones he got in the past often happened in the middle of campaigns, so he sometimes had to go into battle still sore from the previous night's punishment. Not ideal at all.

Here it's just a training session, so it's more bearable, but still far from fun.

Lin's POV

Lin, as he'll explain in the next chapter, did have an inkling that Li was forcing the other trainees to submit to him, but he very naively thought he was just bribing them. He was not totally off-base tbh, that's something that happened a lot in the court: offer some gald here and there, and people look the other way.

Since Arst 'dared' to win against him, Lin was convinced that he would not be so easily corrupted. Despite how humiliating it is for him to lose in front of everyone, he finds it even more humiliating to have people fake defeat against him, so Arst actually treating him seriously was a much welcome change. That, coupled with their friendlier interactions as of late, actually made him pretty hopeful about the future of their relationship. Arst came back in a bad mood from that practice, but Lin chalked it up to him having had an argument with Li about the bribes or something.

The next day, they're facing each other again, and Lin is actually pretty excited about it (Arst, however, sees his smile and friendly banter as mockery). But then... Arst fakes a loss. He proves, in Lin's eyes, that he's no better than all the others who don't take him seriously. Lin is pretty crushed about it, and cuts his practice session short. (Here too, we have a misunderstanding, as Arst turns away before he sees the sadness and disapointment on Lin's face.)

While waiting for Arst to come back, Lin ponders what to do. He even briefly considers offering Arst more money than (what he thinks) Li did, but then he realizes that won't solve the actual problem. So he resolves to simply confront Arst about what happened. Which is... kinda big for Lin at the time, because he hates confrontation. It's a testament of how bothered he is about it that he's ready to address it head on.

Of course it doesn't go very well, and he's a bit taken aback by the sheer hostility Arst is now directing at him. That, plus Arst talking about "learning his lesson", eventually clues him in. He knows exactly what "teaching a lesson" means around here. So he tells Arst to undress for confirmation (dude, you could have just asked).

His first reaction is to jump into problem-solving mode. Arst is hurt = must stop the hurt. So he goes to his special stash of painkiller tea, all ready to share, but then he thinks of Minah and her healing abilities, and decides sending Arst to her would be even better. He makes up that pretense about fetching tea because 1. he's too shocked to think clearly and all the nonsense he was told about acting like a prince is taking over, and 2. he's got an inkling Arst wouldn't believe him anyway. So as long as he can get Arst to her, that's all that matters.

After Arst leaves, he probably spends the rest of the afternoon pacing around the room while processing everything he's just realized.

Minah

Oh Minah, my dear Minah. I think she was more middle-aged in my early concept of her, but then I decided a grandma-like character would be more fun. I didn't have much planned about her in terms of personality or anything, but she kinda... developed on her own within three lines lmao.

She's a bit of an odd one in that environment. Protocol? Traditions? Gender roles? Don't know 'em! Maybe it's because she's ran her shop on her own unbothered for so long, physically within the court but spiritually in her own little world, so she's not really bound by anything that happens around her.

She makes sure to stay as uninvolved as possible, and in return she's left unscrutinized. She's been there for so long she's practically part of the decor, in a way. So most people tend to overlook her. Need medicine? Go to old Minah! But aside from that they kinda forget she's there. Except Lin and a few others, who've come to enjoy her company and peculiar brand of wit.

Despite keeping her distance, she likes having company around, and she loves a good gossip. She was really looking forward to meeting Arst, so she got her wish there. Not the kind of introduction she expected, but definitely the highlight of her day.

She's really gifted with spirit artes, especially healing, which she started practicing since she was a child. She grew up playing assistant to her court healer father, so she developed an eye for illnesses and injuries pretty early on. This enabled her to notice that something was off about Arst. If this was a murder mystery, she'd definitely be the detective XD

Healing

I didn't set out to explore worldbuilding about healing artes from the start, but the more I brought them up, the more I naturally developed lore around it. I love giving a more in-depth spin to gameplay mechanics, so this was a good occasion. Healer Arst was something I'd decided on when I started, though. I loved the discovery that he was programmed to have Cure and Resurrection (unused data has always fascinated me!), and I wanted to make it an actual thing in a story. Since this is an AU, I thought that it would be the perfect setting for it. Especially since it'll be very useful to him here.

hmmm some random ahit holiday headcanons

- The mafia celebrate a holiday called Fishmas. It's basically Christmas except everything is fish themed. Their holiday lights are shaped like fish. It never snows in mafia town and I'm pretty sure the only trees there are palm trees, so they decorate the palm trees with lights and garlands and stuff. It's chillier than usual in winter even if there's no snow so they might dress a bit warmer than usual but probably not heavy coats or anything

- the people originally from the island don't celebrate that, though, it's just the mafia. Mu used to celebrate a holiday called Star Day with her family. It was celebrated winter solstice (the longest night of the year) and is usually spent stargazing with friends and family. Stories would be shared about constellations, like legends and mythology and stuff. Mu doesn't really celebrate anymore because she doesn't have a way of getting decorations and if she tried to throw a party of any kind the mafia would ruin it, but she might still try to give little gifts to the coffee clerks and stuff.

- idk what they'd call it but I think the owls would like. get a week off of work and school and all that to spend at home with family. Probably a lot of bird food, like idk birdseed pie or something. Conductor spends the holiday with his whole family, they all get together (his brothers, kids, grandkids, etc.) and eat a big meal. They don't really give gifts other than the food, but Cond usually tries to release a holiday movie before then and he'd watch that with his family. It's cold so they hang out around the fire place. Cond probably drinks too much =/

- Penguins just celebrate the new year. Celebrations are pretty much the same as normal (as in our world I mean), but again I think Grooves releases a holiday movie. He gets very dressed up and throws a big party. He would absolutely have those sunglasses that say the year on them. He gets gifts for like, all the penguins, and they all get gifts for him too. How do they determine the time (for midnight) if they're on the moon you ask? Um lol idk I don't care don't talk to me

- Subcon has a very old holiday called Day of the Frost that is based on an old legend that was probably true about a being with ice powers that covered the world in ice and snow. (Very old legend, started long before Vanessa was born, I say it's probably true because someone before her probably had ice powers, maybe even her ancestor or something.) Because of the legend's nature being kinda creepy, the holiday generally has a campfire story kinda tradition (except it's more often around a fireplace instead of a campfire). Snatcher owns a lot of old books that were common day of the frost stories, and he still reads them sometimes around the holidays.

- it does snow in Subcon in winter, but it's usually a pretty light snow (what with the constantly burning forests and shit lol) unless it's near Vanessa's manner, where it gets pecking blizzards. The fire spirits have trouble burning bright enough to die in the cold, but they try to burn as bright as they can, so they might stay indoors or huddle up close to each-other by a fire.

- Alpine celebrates Twilight Fest, which is about celebrating their history and the Twilight Goat through spending time with their community with games and treats. At home, they'd probably eat a lot of soups and pastries, and common festival food would include a lot of sweets and maybe some kind of nut coated in cinnamon or caramel or something. Like Star Day, it can include star gazing and discussion of constellations, but it's usually a bit more focused on ringing bells and playing songs.

- The ocean would be frozen over in winter, so boats would have a hard time going anywhere lol. The Walrus Captain and the seals wouldn't have work because of that. Not sure if they'd have a specific holiday, but they'd get a break from work. I could picture the seals making snowmen or something tbh.

- I think the metro also just celebrates New Year? A lot of the stores probably go on sale for people to buy gifts. A lot of winter-specific foods and drinks at the restaurants, like hot chocolate with peppermint or something. Timmy just goes to McDonyald's to eat chicken nuggets because he doesn't care but Bow would probably love the holiday drinks. A lot of holiday decorations all over the place, lots of pretty lights and stuff.

- Hat and Bow din't really celebrate any winter holidays back home, but they're happy to join their friends to celebrate whatever on this planet. Some of these take place over multiple days, so they have the time to celebrate a buncha stuff. I imagine they'd both prioritize spending time with Mu, just so that she has someone to talk about the island's old holidays with and have a little mini celebration or party. Maybe they'd also get cooking cat, and they'd bake holiday treats together. Hat and Bow could maybe try to get some decorations together for Mu's cave.

- Not sure about badge seller and tourist. Idk if badge is even from that world?? They feel like they might be from another dimension so idk if there are holidays there lol. I can't really picture them celebrating much. Tourist might celebrate something but idk what, he'd probably enjoy travelling around and seeing the winter holidays all over though.

- Hat and Bow like the holiday lights, they put those around the ship. Maybe they give Rumbi a silly little Santa hat or something.

what happened between Ann Thomas & Tina Turner? We’re they like sisters or not?

Sort of. Tina had to tolerate Ann Thomas or else Ike would’ve beat her. It was the beginning of the end for Tina tbh. Tina already went through this type of thing with Ike’s first wife which Tina was a mistress and best friend to Ike. It’s crazy because Tina didn’t want Ike at first, she went out with another member in his revue and had a baby by him. Eventually the dad left Tina and their baby which made Tina go to Ike not too long afterwards. He was messing around with 3 Ann’s at the time, someone made a comment saying that Ike didn’t want to keep up with his women’s names so this was good for him (🫠) . After inviting Tina to officially join his band, he started to have women audition to become an Ikette. She started to notice signs of his narcissistic ways in the beginning when she first joined but she ignored them because she really wanted to perform and Ike made it happen for her. Eventually the ikettes became his way of getting women, he was known to be notoriously shy so most of the time hiring them as an ikette made it easy for him to sleep with him or in some cases rape them. Ann Thomas became an ikette based off her looks, Ike found her irresistible but she couldn’t sing worth a damn so he always had her mic off. Ann soon started to get the “Tina treatment” she would was in the limelight as often as Tina was, he bought her several expensive gifts, if they would be on a plane getting ready to go to a show or something she would be on one side and Tina would be on another, and also Ike would have her in expensive hotels like Tina and have the rest of the revue buy their own. She was pretty much living like Tina and they would spend a lot of time together because of it. Tina wasn’t allowed to act out over this or Ike would be very upset. Even though Ike ran things and was the leader of the own operation, Tina made the money! So imagine all of your money going to your husband’s side chick! Eventually Ann ended up pregnant, which caused Tina to go into a deep depression. Ike allowed Ann to keep her baby and told Tina to abort hers, she was devastated! Ann was pretty much given the “love of my life” title by Ike and Tina was given the “best friend” treatment by Ike and this is what sent Tina into a massive heart break. But even though Ann was considered to be the love of his life he still ended up cheating and beating her too, Ike’s actions was different like his love making or him wanting to have her baby but his narcissistic ways stayed with him until the end.

so i'm someone that bruises relatively easily and i've been getting a lot of them from work recently (it's a tad more labor intensive than my other jobs, but i'm getting paid a lot more so worth it tbh) but it's still annoying so i wrote a lil drabble about it lol

Going inside after an extended period of braving the chill of Dragonspine was always an extremely relieving feeling. Kay never quite dealt with the cold the best, but she was always willing to do so if it meant she was able to spend a little more time with her lover while he worked on his experiments. Sure, she never did much more than fetch the odd ingredient or two, but she knew they both appreciated the company. Plus, she also thought she provided adequate moral support regardless.

Once inside, the adventurer slipped off the large coat she was wearing to shield from the cold, letting out a silent yawn and stretching herself out. However, she was keenly aware of an observant, analytical gaze on her while she did so. She turned, about to make a flirtatious and witty comment about catching his gaze on her while she undressed, though Albedo beat her to it by speaking up first.

“...Have you gotten into any fights recently?” His tone was quiet and careful, his expression matching, eyebrows furrowed like they always did when he was focusing on any complex alchemical equation for a bit too long. Kay’s own expression quickly dropped from flirtatious to confused, glancing around herself a little in an attempt to figure out what prompted such a question. 

“Mmmm…I don’t think so? There was one incident with some treasure hoarders, but that was weeks ago. They were dealt with pretty easily though.” She added with a certain pride in her voice, clearly happy with how much her combat skills have improved. Her tone then became more serious once more as she returned to his original question. “Why do you ask?” 

“��Bruises.” He said simply, and Kay was now able to follow his gaze to her newly exposed arms. Surely enough, there were quite a few of the black and blue marks decorating them. “That’s not all. I noticed some on your legs earlier as well. While adventuring often results in some scrapes or bumps…this amount seems a little higher than normal…” By his cadence and the general nature of the man, he very much seemed in ‘analytical mode,’ leaving Kay defenseless to interject even if she wanted to. “As a vegetarian, you do have more risk of developing anemia, or developing bruises in general. Though…I don’t believe you’ve ever had this many at a time before. Which is why I asked.” He finished, looking at her expectantly.

“I promise I haven’t gotten these from any fights. Would you believe me if I said I was just that clumsy?” Kay asked sheepishly, a weak smile appearing on her face. After a moment of contemplation, Albedo sighed and nodded.

“It…is a plausible explanation. Even then, it’s still not…good that you’re getting such bruises just from living your life. It makes me…” He paused for another moment, as if trying to decipher the exact name for the emotion he was feeling. “…concerned. You’re likely still iron deficient, have you been eating enough leafy greens, beans, or eggs?” Kay tried to conceal the guilt that likely immediately appeared on her expression, but by the look on his face, he got his answer. He clicked his tongue, and Kay braced herself for a lecture or hearing how he was disappointed in her. However, neither came as he drifted a bit closer to her and took her hand gently. “I am only concerned for your health, you’re only human after all. I will remind you when I can, but can you promise me to try to take care of yourself better as well?” Kay released a breath, her heart rate slowing as she processed that he wasn’t upset with her.

“I promise. As long as you do too, Mr. ‘Sometimes Forgets to Eat at All When Focusing on His Experiments.’” She replied, causing him to let out a defeated chuckle. 

“Right…I have no defense for that. I suppose we’ll simply have to look out for each other, yes?” Kay’s eyes practically lit up at his words, proceeding to throw both of her arms around him and squeezing. He seemed to be thrown off for a moment by the sudden action, but quickly regained balance, allowing the momentum to spin them around once before remaining still. 

“It’s a deal!” She agreed, burying her face against the crook of his neck. 

“In the meantime…” He began, taking her arm and pressing his lips against one of the bruises on it, though being sure not to apply enough pressure to cause any pain. “I suppose I will just have to kiss them until they’re better.”

first, i'm gonna say that, just like it happened with his thing for thighs, i hadn't realised i had made him demi until fairly recently while i was writing a drabble... i tend to just write whatever comes to mind and then it's like i have a revelation afterwards lol. so after i wrote a particular phrase i was like "wait a damn minute..." (i'll leave the phrase at the end for those that are curious), and i started back tracking to Chris' instalments and realised i had been writing him this way for a long time now (not to say from the very beginning).

with that being said, i am currently not 100% sure if Chris as a character is aware that he's demi or not. just because i haven't decided which option i want most lol idk if i want him to already know before meeting pretty mum, or if i want him to go through that journey of finding the label for him with her... regardless, the way he handles his romantic/sexual feelings has always been... like demisexuals do, you know?

i think Chris Wereroomies might've had two (max three) partners in the past, and i'm sure they were all either friends or someone he met through friends that he ended up hitting things off with fairly well. he never understood how Changbin was able to go sleeping around with random people, because, for him, what was the point of sex if it wasn't to enjoy a good time with a specific someone? it genuinely felt like a ginormous waste of time and energy otherwise.

Chris is an alpha, yes. which makes it so he probably has a high sex drive in general, but that sex drive only ever exists when there is already an important person in his life. that's why we've read his inner voice talk about having "a lot of self-control" and why he was able to spend ruts on his own. his already existing predisposition to not feeling sexual attraction from the get-go probably made it so his cravings during his rut were nothing but the very minimum his wolf had, so even if he was frustrated it was still manageable.

while i'm writing this, i'm wondering if he ever spent his rut with anyone at all... if his previous relationships lasted enough for that to be a possibility.... i'll have to think more on this one tbh lol

but anyway... being demi is also probably one of the reasons why he'd been told he was "too intense" in the past. it's very likely that in his previous relationships he had developed these feelings that the other person simply didn't have or didn't feel as strongly, so of course they thought he was intense. what i suppose happened was that his high sex drive and his predisposition to being a hopeless romantic was somewhat contained when he was going through periods of time without feeling attraction towards someone, but then he did meet someone he was attracted to and he suddenly had all these needs that were just too much to contain.

then pretty mum came along...

in Alpha Dog, the narration tells us:

the day he met our dearest pack mum was the first time he ever felt any sort of sexual attraction for a stranger.

this is obviously due to his supernatural bond with her (aka due to him imprinting. yes, he had imprinted then, he just didn't know), but at the time he was just confused as hell because he'd never gone through anything similar. i'm sure that many times in the past he'd seen people with similar body types to pretty mum's and he was like "ohh, that's attractive", but recognising someone as attractive doesn't necessarily mean he wanted to fuck them (if you're demi, you know how this feels like...). so of course he thought pretty was attractive, but to the point of wanting to touch her all over??? after hardly saying more than twenty words to each other??? nothing he'd ever felt before, tbh.

essentially, that day he met pretty those very minimal wolf cravings he had turned up a notch, but it wasn't until he actually got to know her that it all started escalating. his inner wolf's cravings, his human needs, it all started piling up inside of him once he started developing that personal connection with her... which is why the first rut he went into after she moved in was so unbearable. he no longer had minimal urges, he was full on horny for this woman and he could hardly cope.

meet praewa laithomya, better known by her thai nickname: real! she was introduced to aegis international through her father who has ties to the powers that be as a former high ranking thai royal navy admiral and current thai ambassador to korea.

her mother is also no slouch, being a famous thai socialite and direct relative to the former prime minister, and the two would rub elbows with the patrons of the obsidian lounge in hopes they would climb the social ranks quickly.

her older brother was also an agent, though he passed away around the time real completed her own training. it devastated her of course, but she's the type to deal with emotional things in private while publicly carrying on with her life.

nearly seven years have passed since her training was completed, and real has been a valued agent with aegis international ever since. she's known as agent venus, so christened due to her tendency to use her seductive wit to extract information.

she's an expert liar, charming as hell and something of an intangible concept. she keeps a lot of personal details close to the vest, even when it comes to fellow agents. this is due to a multitude of reasons, the main two being: it's a defense mechanism as she's experienced a tough loss already, and it's excellent practice for her work in the field.

that said, she's always very charismatic and friendly, showing interest in the people around her and caring very deeply about the wellbeing of her fellow agents. she worries a lot when other agents get hurt or are in danger and is constantly losing the idgaf war in those moments.

she's also very diplomatic and is careful to remain neutral when internal conflicts arise. she's a rather adept problem solver when it comes to disagreements between agents, especially in the field. she's often brought in to mediate heated arguments which can happen pretty easily in such high stress situations.

she's kinda giving bond girl vibes? very intelligent and sultry and kind of dreamy, but hard to place at the same time.

𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄. despite the depiction of them given, these two aren't romantically involved at all, but they work together so closely and so often, they've become the best of friends within the agency. pairing them up on the same mission usually has top notch results, as they play off one another so well.

𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒. you and real went through the rigorous training for aegis international at roughly the same time, so you've seen real at emotional lows no other people have which makes her feel sort of strange around you. it's almost as if you know some horribly dark secret about her, despite it all being perfectly reasonable.

𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊. though it was but for a short time, you worked alongside real's brother pim towards the end of his life. you were even on the mission where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. ever since then, real has looked to you as an important link to something she's lost, and enjoys spending a large chunk of her free time with you.

𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒. passing glances and kindred eye rolls were essentially the bulk of your relationship with real when she'd first moved to seoul, as you were both often dragged to boring galas and dinners by your equally influential families. now that you're both adults and working for aegis, you've been catching up on each other's current lives.

𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄. a mutual friend within the agency decided it would be absolutely hilarious to intentionally set you and real up on a 'blind' date, despite the fact that you are very much familiar with each other. in fact, you've never really gotten along that well, even with real's sparkling mediation skills. when you realize the situation you're in after arriving to the date, neither of you are sure where to go from there.

𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒. you and pim had made countless promises to each other about the future and were deeply in love at the time of his passing. you still keep the ring he gave you as an intention of marriage, as it's extremely hard to let go of. you can't help but see real as a constant reminder of what you lost and still find it somewhat difficult to be around her even all these years later. Do you have a fan/air conditioning on right now? I have my aircon turned on, yeah. The colder weather flew by in the blink of an eye and now it's back to being hot and humid and gross and needing to have some sort of ventilation in front of my face 24/7.

Wanting a different name was more the case when I was a kid, because children were brutal and bullied me to oblivion for my name; at one point I was insisting my family start calling me Isabelle just to escape the flinches I'd get whenever I'd hear my name.

Over the years and as those kids got older and started leaving me alone, I warmed up to my name and now think it's pretty badass.

Do you often press the wrong keys on the keyboard? No I'm pretty good at typing and the only time I get kind of clumsy is when I use a keyboard I'm not super used to.

Have you ever customised an item of clothing? What did you do to it? I've never done that; I've never been creative enough to DIY stuff.

Do you prefer drawing or painting? Any particular reason why? Painting. It's more therapeutic for me and at least with painting you can use the most random colors and shapes possible and it'd still, like, amount to something lol. I can't draw to save my life.

Are you saving up for anything right now? What? I'm saving up for life in general. With my resignation taking effect and me being down to my last four paychecks while I look for my next job, I don't plan on spending much until I settle the latter.

I'd say I keep careful while knowing how to use my tiny car to my advantage, but I do get major anxiety when I have to merge or switch lanes. That shit takes me way too long to accomplish hah.

Isaac: He has a younger sister and a much older brother, both of whom he loves. They all lived with their grandma because their parents went missing while on a business trip, and no one knows where they went. Isaac’s sister was 2, he was 12, and his brother was already 16. Their grandma was possibly the coolest woman alive, and she loved and spoiled them. Isaac had struggled with the loss of his parents, but his brother suffered worse than him, and Isaac tried his best to comfort him. That’s how Isaac realized he enjoyed helping people feel better, and that’s why he wants to be a therapist.

Oliver: His childhood wasn’t that bad. His parents loved him and supported him when he came out, and he did struggle with people being homophobic towards him from time to time but his friends (*ahem* Isaac *cough cough*) were always there to stick up for him. But Oliver was also an overachiever, and would often spend hours obsessing over and worrying about school. But other than that, his life growing up was pretty great.

Jordan: Her and her brother came from a rich family that owned and partnered with a handful of successful tech companies in both America and Japan. Because their parents were both from Japan, they visited family there often but mainly lived in the states. Jordan loved her fancy lifestyle, and because she wore fancy clothes and owned expensive things, people judged her and called her a snob, but when she met Birdie and Spirit she finally had people who saw the real her. (Jordan and Keiko don’t really have bad backstories.)

Keiko: (I repeat: basically no trauma.) Even though he’s Jordan’s brother, he didn’t have the same rich tastes that she had. He wanted a simpler life, which is why instead of accepting an allowance or asking for money, he worked jobs and applied for a lot of scholarships in order to get to college and get his own apartment. His parents offered to get nice apartments for him and Jordan, but when though Jordan accepted hers, Keiko instead stuck to buying his own.

Spirit: She wasn’t always the “heavy-metal-badass” she is now. When she was a little girl, she was basically a girly tomboy whose dad would take her fishing, play her music on the guitar, and take care of her since her mom was always working. But he was also a marine and had to go to war for a few months. He died in war on Spirit’s sixth birthday, and Spirit’s mom didn’t even stop working or come home to take care of her. There was no extended family to take care of Spirit, but her mom was home for a couple of days every week (or even every other week) and was well off financially, so CPS never really got involved. Spirit would sometimes go hungry and got her own job at a young age to buy stuff like food and clothes for herself since her mom never bothered to. Spirit’s childhood made her the independent, short-tempered badass that she is.

Birdie: Her backstory is another one of the less bad ones. Her parents are married and sweet, and she is an only child (but Spirit is like a sister to her). But she was bullied a lot growing up and often called crazy. She was obsessed with nature and was basically a hippie since she could walk. And her ADHD was so bad that she had meltdowns and bad ticks often, and as a result had scabs on her hands from picking at her skin. She takes medication, and Spirit sometimes keeps some of Birdie’s pills in her own bag because she knows Birdie forgets to take it from time to time.

Amberlynn: Right after Amber’s birth, her mom became a drunk and drug addict. And she was once so intoxicated once that she tried to kill little baby Amberlynn, and Amberlynn has a faded scar on her stomach from that attempt. After that, Amberlynn’s bio-dad (Finnegan) got full custody of her and left. When Anberlynn was about 2 years old, Finnegan met Jackson and the two of them got married when Amberlynn was 4. Amberlynn never knew her mom until the woman tried to show back up when Amberlynn was 13, and when Amberlynn yelled at her to leave, the woman slapped her and started to beat her while screaming. Jackson was there though and managed to get the woman locked out of the house. She was arrested after that, and the experience traumatized Amberlynn a bit. Her dads were there to help her through it though.

Eliana: She lived in Virginia and came from a very religious and political family. On the outside, she was a nice and beautiful girl who everyone assumed had a great life. But her family was hard on her—especially her three sisters who were jealous of her looks and called her a slut—and her life went to hell after one of her sisters found out she had a crush on a girl and was lesbian. People at her Christian school began to call her disgusting, and her family abused her verbally and physically. She had a brother who tried to intervene when he could, but he was the oldest and the first to move out to get away from his crazy family. But after two years when he had a job and even his own apartment, he convinced his parents to let Eliana move in with him. They disowned her and did just that. Afterwards, Eliana’s life improved and art became her therapy. After a while though of living with her brother and finishing up her high school years, her parents apologized and tried to get back in contact, saying they don’t accept her sexuality but she is family and they love her no matter what. She and her brother didn’t fully believe it, but she still visited her family on holidays and vacations while giving them the cold shoulder, knowing she could never forgive them completely. (Boy, that’s a long one😭).

Aiden: His dad was a cop and nis mom was a nurse. His life was nice until his dad was shot by a criminal and paralyzed from the waist and down. He’d always wanted to be a cop like his dad, and was even more determined after his dad’s accident. He was a well-liked, straight-A student with plenty of friends, and he’s also an insanely caring soul. Basically, his parents raised him right👍!!

Atticus: His backstory is really the best and calmest of them all. He was raised in the countryside. He wasn’t the stereotypical cowboy with a funny hat and a southern accent, but he knew how to milk a cow. He was a bright kid in school, and was basically just a giant hunk of joy. The people around him were accepting to the fact he was bi and he never struggled to fit in. He loved helping people and making them smile. He did lots of school programs like gardening club, student government, fundraisers, pen-pal club, and more. (The pen-pal thing is important to remember btw.)

Felix: He was raised in Britain his whole life, but his dad was American and he was born in America so he had dual citizenship. His mom was basically his best friend, and his dad thought this was weird since he thought that his son would be into things like sports instead of shopping. He wasn’t happy when his son came out as gay, but he didn’t put his son down either. Rather, he just never commented on it. Felix wanted to become a fashion designer like his mom, and when he told his dad the man basically sighed and said, “Okay, yeah. Sure. I’ll buy you a sewing machine if it’ll make you happy. I love ya, kid, but please just keep your grades up and for the love of God, please don’t start watching James Charles.” (BTW, Felix doesn’t watch James Charles. It’s just not his thing). When Felix was in high school, he joined a pen-pal program and was paired with a guy name Atticus from the US. They were pen-pals for the rest of high school and had even planned to go to the same college in the US so that their close friendship could continue in real life. They started dating after their first month of college.
