the only way to watch tv shows the way they were meant to be watched is through DVDs isn't it? I keep hearing of tv shows that netflix has made major editing/aspect ratio/music changes, once again cementing netflix as my archnemesis. yes I'm pedantic, it's my only talent

Wore a BLM shirt to work today. And ik that's probably the most superficial way to show support, but it still made me feel nervous to do it. I got worried that I'd start a """""political"""" debate in the work place. That id be talked to for wearing a shirt like that. I got worried I'd be fired (which whooweee would I not to work for them anyway but that's not the point). And that made me think of something.
I (processing this from a white femme perspective) think that, while if the only thing you're doing consistently is wearing shirts and posting social media posts, and that ISNT outside of your comfort zone anymore, then yeah you need to put more effort in (that's what makes it performative, you're not actually putting effort in anymore to be anti-racist). But I think what people don't acknowledge is that sometimes that can be a big step!
Some (white) people get anxious about backlash on social media, so maybe posting a status on Facebook saying Black Lives Matter is a big deal to them because they're not confrontational usually. But someone who updates a status if they see a bug on the sidewalk isn't going to have that same challenge bar.
If I can get to the point I can wear this shirt comfortably, that would mean I'm ready for the next step about being more firm with my stances.
Our duty is towards progress, no matter how small you start.
I think there's a lot of pressure to be big, bold, and, brash when it comes to this sort of thing (because truth be told that is needed), but the prospect of that can scare some people. Especially if you have a fear of confrontation.
Start small, work your way up. Support black businesses by buying their stuff, work up to being public, then going out to protests, then to organizing (events, fundraisers, whatever the fuck) if you think u can. Don't feel pressured to do the Most Right Now because that'll just throw away all your spoons and you won't be help to anyone. One step is better than not moving at all.
