Never got around to asking her/the difference between weeds and herbs and flowers

the part of Katy Kirby's "Juniper" that makes me want to write SW EU (Legends) [related] fic I most certainly 100% don't have the background for BUT that "Which are flowers? Which are weeds?" Vergere quote has always struck me (albeit without its actual context) in a different way than it seems to be popularly perceived, possibly because of my very casual background with like... ecology and er... following people like @headspace-hotel

#i had an elementary teacher with ophidiophobia (fear of snakes) but I swear that despite and perhaps due to that #she organized like zoo programs where we were taught that snakes are normal important parts of the ecosystem #and I'm pretty sure she also brought up “creepy crawlies” like bats and spiders in a way that indicated: valuable to the circle of life!#(also Ms. Frizzle! on tv and in books)#which is animals but like! you do not have to follow Pretty Garden™ Opinions!#you can accept that native wildflowers ARE desirable plants #you can agree with science that eg Bradford pears are invasive and harmful even if they are sort of vaguely attractive #sorry for the tag headspace-hotel but I think you are an outstanding tumblr denizen #... actually I found a blog essay examining Vergere through the course of various books #and it sounds like my quick reaction to the quote makes some sense within the NJO books...
