neil clarified that it's not the fans he's upset with and that all he asks for is for people to either stop showing the leak or to at least mark it and the conversation around it as spoilers, which is more than reasonable. i still can't believe that what is possibly the biggest moment for the fandom has gotten out like this and that people are so insensitive when it comes to not putting up any warnings. i was hit by the image on twitter this morning and i'm still unhappy, hours later, about something that usually would've brought me immense joy, because the show means so much to me and i wanted to experience the season in the way it was intended. maybe just don't say that you're not going reveal the spoiler only to then talk about it in a way that leaves no questions. you can tag for potential spoilers on tumblr and there is also a read more option, so you're able to put things under a cut. it takes so little effort to be more considerate.
(Grouping all of the Anons that I got in response to my post together. Not included in this array is another Anon that I am not posting by request, but the tone is very similar to Anon #1, so that should give you an idea of things.)
Okay, so...wow. Obviously there are a lot of feelings around what happened, which is understandable. But what I'm a bit taken aback by is the seeming lack of personal accountability in a few of these responses. At no point was anyone obligated to continue reading my post if they thought a spoiler was about to be shared, and I find it peculiar that some folks are getting angry at me because they decided to employ critical thinking skills while reading my post (and also, why would you keep reading if you didn't want to see a spoiler but thought one might be forthcoming?).
There's also the notion that The Thing by its very nature is a strange thing to categorize as a spoiler because it shouldn't be surprising or a "twist" for these characters to be in a confirmed relationship...unless Neil was hoping to score brownie points with it after all of the "queer-baiting" accusations from last season. But blaming me for somehow adding to the sturm und drang around the spoiler news is not on, because while I realize I am an easy target (certainly easier than Amazon, at any rate), all of the above is also failing to take into account that I did not actually share the spoiler in my post.
That being said, I am certainly glad that Neil did indeed clarify (on Tumblr and Twitter) that he is not upset with the fans. The problem is, by the time he did so it was already too late, as the post he reblogged had received much more traction than the follow-up(s) and fans were already taking his word as chapter and verse and turning on other fans. This was also another point of concern, seeing how intense the parasocial relationship between some of the fans and Neil seems to be. As I've said previously, it is absolutely understandable for Neil to be upset/angry about what happened and we can, as fans, say that his wishes as the creator should be respected.
But where I saw things go way over the top was what you mentioned, Anon #3. People seemingly breaking down and falling over themselves to apologize to Neil, as if we are his friends whom he would have come over with a cup of tea or a bottle of wine to cheer him up after a bad breakup. So it was that particular response that I felt was really disproportionate to the events that occurred.
Anon #2, the link you shared does work, and I had to laugh at the highlighted comment, as well as Neil's original one, which now seems to have aged like milk left out in the hot sub-Saharan sun for an entire week. In a way, we can definitely say that Neil did warn us, and what he said came true--that if one hung around the official channels, little bits and things would be released into the wild. Amazon very much did fuck up, but it's hard not to find the hilarity (and irony) of them fucking up in the most Good Omens-y, "incompetent angel and demon losing the Antichrist" way possible.
To your point, Anon #3, the leak happened because a 2-frame clip was included in a compilation video that Amazon posted that included clips from multiple shows. But it's for this very reason that most fans didn't think or realize that it was a leak in the first place. So I think you could classify it as a poorly done promo, because whether it was intentional or not (and goodness knows I've seen plenty of theories floating around as to which is the case), it still generated buzz and discussion around the show, which is what promotion of any kind is meant to do.
As you said, however...in the end, is this truly going to make anyone not watch the show? I was away/nonstop busy last week and weekend, so I haven't really had time to process everything, but now that it's sinking in, I am SO incredibly excited. While, yes, it would've been lovely to learn this information in the context of the show and I do understand people who feel disappointed due to this, I genuinely cannot imagine how this news could make the experience of GO 2 less joyful, or why any GO fan would not watch the show because of it. I also have posts from as far back as a year and a half ago alluding to these developments only as a possibility, and I'd very much like to reblog some of those just because of how amazingly/hilariously well they have aged.
With all of that in mind, as I stated previously, any posts I do make from here on out that allude to the spoiler even slightly will be tagged as such (with the tag #go2 spoilers), and will be placed under a "Keep Reading" cut. Because I know there are folks who are dying to talk about all this, whose excitement may have been tempered somewhat in the wake of the fallout but who I am sure are feeling elated and full of anticipation now more than ever.
So those are my thoughts on the follow-up to last week's fandom implosion. Hopefully I've addressed some of the concerns people have, and while I know I likely won't change anyone's mind, I have plenty of other feelings and thoughts to share that I hope folks will stay tuned for...
#anonymous#phantomstars24#reply post#good omens 2#aziraphale#crowley#ineffable husbands#neil gaiman#go2 spoilers#trying to provide a balanced perspective#hopefully we can all chill out a bit from here on in#please let next week be better#fandom woes#discourse

Jess is the Gay Subtext Gilmores Gay Meta
Jess within the Gilmores Gay subtext is Rory鈥檚 mirror. 聽He has a lot in common with Rory: a negligent father who left, a mother who relies emotionally on him or isn't able to deal with her trauma and can't express love in an entirely healthy way, who are both into reading as an escape and a career path, both of there parents get remarried and have another kid and there are also legally cousins. He's also gay in the subtext(link at the bottom for my mini post on that.)
I鈥檓 gonna talk about episode 6.8. In which Rory and Jess talk and he essentially awakens something in Rory that brings back a part of herself that she lost. He also meets Logan but that for later on.
In the scene Jess and Rory talk after not seeing each other for awhile:
JESS: Yeah, and I didn't think you'd believe it if I didn't show it to you in person. (takes out a book and give it to her)
RORY: Well, colour me curious. A book. (reading the cover) "'The Subsect'...written by Jess Mariano."
JESS: It's no misprint.
RORY: You wrote a book?
JESS: A short novel.
RORY: You wrote a book?!
JESS: And through a fluke, I got it to these guys that have a small press, and they read it. I don't know if they were high or something, but they decided to publish it.
RORY: You wrote a book.
Subsect sounds a lot like subtext huh? By this time in the show he's already kind of admitted he's gay.(ill put a link at the end of this for that) So he does reflect her.
But then he goes to leave and lo and behold they run into Logan. We already know that Logan is gay given other things(link down at the bottom) So we know all the people in this scene are gay so put that into context makes this make sense. I鈥檓 gonna link the clip here聽https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnTsSPKyzG0.聽 Logan and Jess to put it plainly are eye fucking and Rory looks very umcomfortable:
RORY: No. Hey. When did you get back?
LOGAN: Couple hours ago.
RORY: Oh, I...I thought you were getting back tomorrow.
LOGAN: I thought I'd surprise you, Ace.
RORY: Well, I'm glad you did 'cause you get to meet my old friend, Jess. This is Logan, my boyfriend. Logan, this is Jess. He's in from out of town. (uncomfortable silence) Wow. That sounded so grown-up. We're at the age now where we say things like "in from out of town" and "old friend", 'cause when you're young, all your friends are new, and you have to get old to have old friends. (uncomfortable chuckling from Rory. Logan extends his hand to Jess)
LOGAN: How you doing? (they shake)
JESS: Okay.
RORY: We were just gonna go grab a bite to eat.
LOGAN: Great. Well, how about if we all go together. Is that okay?
JESS: Okay by me.
LOGAN: Good
RORY: All right. Good. We were actually at a loss for where to go, so you actually saved us.
LOGAN: Call me superman. (at Jess) Why don't you follow us.
JESS: Sure. (Logan puts his arm around Rory's shoulders and stears her to the passenger side of his car. Rory is a bit uncomfortable with the gesture)
Two things to note, Rory refers to jess as her friend, and Rory is in the script said to be uncomfortable. Which confirms my earlier theory.
They got to dinner and this shit gets gayer:
GAN: So...what do you do, Jess?
JESS: Oh, this and that.
LOGAN: Describe the "this". Describe the "that".
RORY: He writes.
LOGAN: You write? Impressive. What do you write?
JESS: Nothing important.
RORY: He wrote a book.
LOGAN: Oh, you penned the great American novel, Jess?
JESS: Wasn't quite that ambitious.
LOGAN: So, what are we talking here? Short novel? Kafka length or longer? Dos Passos, Tolstoy? Or longer? Robert Musil? Proust? I'm not throwing you with these names, am I?
JESS: You seem very obsessed with length.
LOGAN: I'm just trying to get a picture in my head, that's all.
RORY: It's a short novel.
The use of length is homoerotic. Despite Logan being classist Jess is still flirting with him.
More:
LOGAN: (at Rory) Any good?
RORY: I haven't read it yet.
LOGAN: Yet? Well, at least you'll have one reader. That's something.
JESS: Yeah.
LOGAN: You know, I should just write down all my random thoughts and stuff that happens to me and conversations I have and just add a bunch of "he said, she said"-'s, and get it published. You got a copy on you?
JESS: No.
LOGAN: You should send me a copy.
JESS: Sure. And where do I send it? The blond dick at Yale?
Ok so again the use of dick is very homoerotic.聽
Jess is upset of course:
RORY: Jess, wait. (he stops and turns to look at her) Jess, I'm sorry.
JESS: We shouldn't have done this.
RORY: He's just in a bad way lately.
JESS: He's a jerk.
RORY: He was. In there, definitely. I'm so sorry.
JESS: I read that guy the second I saw him. I should have begged off.
RORY: Well, I didn't want you to.
So he read him, implies that Jess know Logan鈥檚 gay. He鈥檚 figured him out sexuality wise.
Theres more:
JESS: No, no. I mean with you. What's going on with you?
RORY: What do you mean?
JESS: You know what I mean. I know you better than anyone. This isn't you.
RORY: I don't know.
JESS: What are you doing? Living at your grandparents' place, being in the DAR, no Yale...why did you drop out of Yale?!
RORY: It's complicated.
JESS: It's not! It's not complicated.
RORY: You don't know.
JESS: This isn't you. This, you going out with this jerk, with the Porsche. We made fun of guys like this.
RORY: You caught him on a bad night.
JESS: This isn't about him. Okay, screw him. What's going on with you? This isn't you, Rory. You know it isn't. What's going on?
RORY: I don't know. I don't know.
So Jess being her mirror is acknowledged when he says he's knows her better than anyone.
Jess leaves and Rory and Logan fight:
LOGAN: Look, I'm sorry I came back early. I really messed things up here.
RORY: Jess wrote a book. He wrote a book, and you mocked him.
LOGAN: I did not mock him.
RORY: He's doing something.
LOGAN: Good. Fine. He's doing something. Everybody in the world's doing something. More power to him.
RORY: I'm not. I mean, what am I doing? I'm living with my grandparents.
LOGAN: That's temporary. Have a drink.
RORY: Temporary can turn into forever.
LOGAN: You're not living with the Gilmore鈥檚 forever.
RORY: I'm palling with my grandmother and being waited on by a maid. I come home, and my shoes are magically shined. My clothes are magically clean, ironed, and laid out. My bed is magically turned down. I'm in the DAR? I'm going to meetings and teas and cocktail parties?
Rory is having realization about her life because of what jess said to her. The fights not over yet:
LOGAN: Again, temporary. Have a drink.
RORY: And wasting my time partying and drinking, just hanging out doing nothing.
LOGAN: Whoa, whoa, whoa. (he gets up) Don't pull me into this.
RORY: I didn't say anything about you.
LOGAN: Yes, you did. Don't make me feel guilty for your drinking and partying. That's your choice. I'm not forcing you. When I ask you out, you can say no
RORY: It's all we do.
LOGAN: It's not all we do.
RORY: It's all you do.
LOGAN: Well, it's my prerogative, you know. You're damn straight. I'm gonna party. I'm gonna do it while I have the chance because come June, my life is over.
RORY: Oh, yes, your horrible life. Let's hear about it.
LOGAN: Got a week?
RORY: You have every door open to you. You have opportunities that anyone would kill for, including me.
LOGAN: No one's stopping you from making whatever you want happen. Go into journalism. Go into politics. Be a doctor. Be a clown. Do whatever you want.
RORY: It's not as easy when it's not handed to you.
LOGAN: Really? It's all so easy for me? (getting upset) I don't want that life. It's forced on me. You talk about all these doors being open? All I see is one door, and I'm being pushed through it. I have no choice. You try living without options.
Logan is stuck within a heterosexual playboy idea of himself that isn鈥檛 him. And so he parties to cope.
RORY: How hard are you fighting it?
LOGAN: I didn't tell you to quit Yale. You did that. I gave you one month, you went beyond that month, and it had nothing to do with me. It was all you. Now, you want to change? Change it, but don't blame me. Don't you dare blame me. You know what? Why don't you go off with John, Jack, whatever his name is?
He's not claiming responsibility because he's an asshole, but also he doesn't know how to be a boyfriend because he's gay. He's uncomfortable with Rory relying on him emotionally because he's viewing it as romantic and the gay guy in him doesn't like that. Rory's comment about him fighting is the text is noting his struggle with compulsory heterosexuality. Rory leaves and as we know she does break up with him and jess comments to her bring her back to herself.聽

1. The mistrust lasted 2 episodes where Adora was attacked even though she was saying, "stand down, I don't want to hurt you." And just simply trying to get her sword that GLIMMER keeps away from her, tries to use the sword herself where even Bow calls her out for it: "What are we doing?"
2. Glimmer and Adora don't have good communication in season 4 at all?? Did you really watch it? Even Adora calls it out, "you stopped including us in your decisions." And they apparently fight so often than even Mermista was over it.
3. UM Shera is an all powerful being bt from what we know from Mara SHE CAN STILL DIE. And she was used as bait multiple times: when glimmer goes to fight catra, when Adora mentions it herself: "They can't be tracking me but you used me as bait again." And she does leave Adora defenseless during all of this, if things hadn't gone to her favor when she went to fight Catra, Glimmer wouldn't been too late to save Adora, Netossa and Spinerella because they were completely surrounded by bots.
4. Oh wow she didn't mean it? Guess what? Reality is that you are responsible for the words you say and that goes along with your emotions; specially someone trying to make herself a queen. Glimmer wouldn't have blamed Adora for her Angella's death if part of her didn't truly believe Adora is to blame or could've somehow changed what happened bc, just like you said, she's Shera an all powerful being: "Well maybe your best is not good enough. If it was, my mother would still be here!"
5. My post literally doesn't excuse any of Catra's actions, just explains them but I guess you chose to ignore that. Also, Catra was brought up in the horde which we can see by Adora's reactions to "normal" things in s1, they don't even celebrate birthdays. I'm not sure how she's still hurting Adora after her redemption? I mean she literally sacrificed herself to Horde Prime, nearly died, was saved, and was just stubborn about confronting her mistakes after bc duh, she KNOWS everything she did was wrong and it's not a short list.
6. You sure you watched this show? There's a whole scene where Glimmer is trying to relate to Scorpia (only to manipulate her to Glimmers advantage to activating the heart): "Tell me about it. I was always the weak princess, the one who needed to recharge." Glimmer literally makes the convo about herself and how the other princesses don't have to recharge when Scorpia has never even considered herself a princess and is going through extreme stress over it.
7. I'm not sure what you're referring to here loll bc if it's after Glimmer admits that they need Adora after she refused to give the sword back, then you're just proving my point. The entire time before that Bow already trusted Adora, but go off I guess...
8. Glimmer was not being manipulated by Shadow Weaver when she activated the heart; she actually refused to discuss her "plan" with her bc she knew all she needed was to manipulate Scorpia and the entire time even Shadow Weaver is telling her its a bad plan: "You are without allies, without a plan..... What would your mother say if she were here?" Also yes, Catra did activate the portal even tho Adora told her not to, but again refer to them having a complex backstory compared to Glimmer who's been a spoiled brat all her life. Hordak and Entrapta built the portal, so they deserve some of the blame for it occurring as well; Catra decided she really wanted to activate the portal once she found out SW, her only parental figure who manipulated her, escaped to go back to Adora.
9. Adora literally tells Catra "I never hated you." Adora loves and cares for Catra even though everything she's done and Catra proves that she feels the same way too by risking her life multiple times for her, ex: giving her back her sword from SW, going against Horde Prime, fighting the beast made to kill even Shera. I'm not sure what you expected, even Glimmer seems more enlightened than you as a character: "This is Catra we're talking about, did you expect her to be a completely different person?" Also what fake love are you talking about lol? Where is the love fake? They've loved each other since they were kids and they both need therapy to work out their own issues bc yes Catra isn't perfect (inferiority complex), but neither is Adora (hero complex) the girl literally sleeps with a knife under her pillow.
Also the whole post was originally anti glimmadora, you didn't really make any points to show that you really believe Glimmer cares about Adora as much as Catra does; ex look back to Adora being bait for Glimmer and Catra literally jumping through fire for Adora.
So once again Adora + Glimmer = dead Shera, dead Etheria, toxic af
Adora + Catra= complex back story dating back to when they're literal babies where one is treated as a "someone who's meant for greatness," and the other as a "nuisance to get rid of, but haven't bc Adora is "fond" of her."
I really don't understand how glimmadora shippers are now trying to make this ship seem less toxic and more acceptable as enemies to lovers compared to catradora.
Glimmer didn't trust Adora even when Bow did.
Glimmer didn't listen to Adora EVER.
Glimmer uses Adora as live bait for the horde.
Glimmer blames her mother's death on Adora.
Glimmer becomes just as violent and ruthless as the horde.
Glimmer wanted to be "special" so bad from the very beginning that not only is she comparing herself to the other princesses, but even tries to use Shera's sword to see if she can become more powerful.
Glimmer doesn't start seeing Adora as non-threatening until like ep 2 and it's only bc she realizes she's too weak to stop the horde's invasion herself.
Finally, Glimmer ignores both Adora and Bow and activates the heart of etheria bc once again, she's too insecure to admit she's wrong, just like her mother was, jeopardizing every individual on their planet.
Don't get me wrong, Catra for all first 4 seasons and some of season 5 does toxic and problematic things but its bc her whole life she's been compared to Adora and made to feel less than when Adora didn't see her like that at all. Adora always loved her, cared for her, and wanted better for Catra. Yet, Catra was blinded by the horde's entire upbringing and interpreted Adora's change of sides as a betrayal to their bond of growing up together in the horde; "it doesn't matter what they do to us, as long as we're together."
In the end, Catra SAVES Adora, not because she's Shera or strong or needed to save the world, but because she LOVES her. If it were up to Glimmer, she would've chosen Adora to stay behind in season 3 and have her mother instead and the is blatantly clear when she blames Adora for her mother's death even tho the queen made the decision independently.
So to summarize, Glimmer + Adora = never enemies, just Glimmer being an insecure teenager that has less self control than Frosta who's 11. Adora + Catra = complex backstory that drives their entire relationship, making them fight on opposite sides but ending up together anyways and both attempting to sacrifice themselves for each other.
#yeah you do sound bitchy#so go bitch about something else bc you debunked nothing lol#spop#anti glimmadora#catradora
