this about sums up the way i talk about genshin & ffxiv in my channel
i didnt read the article i just take whatever opportunity i can get to mention my dearly beloved elder blorbo (and shit on genshin)
#objective reasons would include:#smaller regions tend to have more interesting stuff than just the ubisoft treatment of throwing stuff on a big map#ffxiv has a far better story#the diversity thing. but also body diversity because even just having middleaged characters who look middleaged brings more variety#than whatever the fuck they have going on over there#where only minor npcs get to look old#dulia chai jsnt perfect and i do shit on square enix for its portrayal of fat man in both ff7 & ffxiv#but still! dulia my dearly beloved#progression systems.#if you lock a character/job's viability in content u have behind content you wont unlock for another 40 hours. thats BAD#the few times that ffxiv locks you out of job quests (post-hw) are the times where you havent reached the related msq#which is FINE.#genshin also has mobile game mechanics like the resin system which makes grinding for necessary materials to progress impossible#(unless you buy more)#which disincentivises exploring more than just a few characters#i could get warrior from where i have it at 37 rn to level 90 in barely a few days (tank queue <3) if i just. got to grinding#making a character viable for higher level content (WHICH YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER) in genshin takes fucking ages#genshin's world level system supports going back to areas without making them easier#however in a game that makes you use several characters. that constantly gives you new ones#it doesnt scale with ur team it scales with ur AR which. fun fact. is capable of making the game nigh on impossible to continue#if u dont level ur characters quickly enough#genshin has 2 things over the games id recommend instead of it. its free and its on mobile#this isnt me saying you cant enjoy genshin btw#'its good' vs 'i like it'. that is all#i have played genshin. i still play it occasionally! its just. objectively. one of the lesser games ive played
