Rose Ribbon Embroidery "Mini" Projects (for BABY NYFW) Part 2: Embroidered Bonnet

I decided semi-last minute to attend BABY's fashion show at NYFW!

BABY had mentioned in their NYFW brand description that their newest collection would be a return to their origins, as well as presenting archival items.

You have to dress to impress for NYFW, right? So of course, I had to pull out all the stops and wear my Rose Ribbon Embroidery.

Also at the last minute, I decided to make a few extra complementing items...

A matching RRE kumya JSK, and a bonnet.

What follows is more of a sew-along/journal rather than a tutorial or guide, mainly for my own memory's sake. But if you enjoy looking at my process (sometimes sloppy), I'm happy!

This post will be my process pictures and notes for the bonnet, as well as a matching mask as a bonus.

I don't believe BABY released matching headwear for Rose Ribbon Embroidery, although I've seen an unknown velveteen headbow with rose lace sold with RRE before.

BABY usually coords RRE with the bunny ear bonnet since Ichigo wears it this way in Kamikaze Girls.

I do own this because I wanted to wear an Ichigo-like outfit at some point, but for this occasion I decided to do something different and make a "matching" embroidered bonnet.

I originally wanted to make a hard bonnet with a very defined brim that could show off the embroidery clearly as I don't really like soft bonnets, but when looking at existing BABY bonnets as a reference, it doesn't look like hard bonnets were a thing back in 2004 (and as it is, BABY rarely releases hard bonnets). So to keep with the oldschool theme, the bonnet is a soft one, although I later make some decisions to make it slightly more structured.

The next decision to make was full bonnet vs half bonnet. The bunny ear bonnet is a full bonnet and I think this is technically more "period accurate", but I am not a fan of how they look like a weird hood from the back so I opted for half (plus, that makes construction and patterning easier for me).

I still used my own bunny ear bonnet as a reference for approximate brim dimensions!

The kumya JSK was a little easier to carelessly sketch out and embroider since I was copying 1:1 from an existing design, but I felt I needed to do at least a bit more careful planning for the embroidery on this. I'm quite bad at creating embroidery designs from scratch, but with the mental image of the rose clusters and swags of vine, as well as referencing the embroidery from the film, I came up with this:

I wanted to emulate the embroidery style of the Momoko's (well, in reality likely the embroidery designer Onoe Megumi--unclear if she did the actual embroidery, but it's likely) embroidery, which I figured wouldn't be too difficult if I was also embroidering by hand.

For material, I am using the same velveteen I used for kumya's JSK. Not my first choice and I actually purchased some thicker looking 100% cotton velvet that I thought would be more similar to the original JSK material, but was worried it wouldn't arrive in time and wanted this project out of the way in case things went wrong/took longer than I expected (it did arrive about a week before the event, but it was totally wrong IRL so I'm glad I just went with this acceptable option). I also bought some more torchon lace, so I used that and another lace from my stash.

The colours of the embroidery in the film also seem to be quite different than BABY's dress. I'm not sure if the pink of the roses has faded over the years, but it has a slight salmon tone whereas the film's roses seem to be more of a pale cool/neutral pink (hard to tell with the yellow tint of the entire film) with some variegation. I love the colour scheme of the film's embroidery, but to keep things coordinated I try to opt for the same colours as the actual dress I have.

I only have white silk ribbon in the width I wanted, so I opted to attempt to dye it to match. Previously I have used alcohol markers to colour the embroidery afterwards, but I find the colour hard to control and it tends to bleed into the fabric. I've also tried colouring the ribbon with the marker before embroidering, but without heat setting the colour transfers onto the fabric as well (and it seems like trying to do so with the amount of ribbon I need would be a waste of ink).

I don't have a lot of experience with it, but since the ribbon is silk, acid dyeing seemed like the way to go.

Very interesting photo of ribbon in pot (the pink ribbon gets eaten up by pinwheel roses much faster than I expected so this is the second batch I had to dye--not ideal as they are definitely slightly different in colour but it's not too noticeable). In total, I think I had to dye 3 batches of ribbon and 4 for the pink ribbon as I just barely ran out near the end, and they are all slightly different colours. Thankfully the undertone is the same so it's difficult to tell unless you are really comparing up close.

I thought I would take this opportunity to use the "peach" acid dye that I bought years ago for another project, but this ended up being a mistake as the colour was totally off (maybe the red dye was too expired). I ended up using my regular fiber reactive procion dyes (with heat/acid), because I have many more colours I could mix together, and that was much better. I really should have done this from the start as I wasted perfectly good silk ribbon by making it too dark/off for my purposes (I ended up overdyeing it in pink so it's a usable colour now, but not for this project).

The silk seems to take on dye extremely fast--even just heating up the dyebath will colour it. In some cases I removed the ribbon before adding any acid at all because I felt the ribbon was already getting too dark.

I managed to get a fairly usable mossy green colour for the leaves and vines, however the pink still ended up being a little off/dark compared to whatever BABY used. It's not too bad here as one strand of ribbon, but when many layers are on top of each other in a rose it seems pretty dark. While not ideal, I think it's still okay, especially considering the embroidery colours used in kumya's JSK match nothing else (many pinks will be going on in this coord).

After dyeing and drying, the ribbon is super wrinkled so I ironed it and wound it on some spare card so it's ready to use.

And now I can start the arduous process of embroidery.

Like before, I mainly use a combination of ordinary ribbon stitches, pinwheel roses, and french knot roses. However, this time I try harder to duplicate, or at least evoke the appearance of the embroidery of the film.

It's interesting how plain and somewhat boring the roses look on their own, especially with this monotone colouring. The varied colours of the film's embroidered roses are lovely, but I decided against it here because the BABY dress has monotone ribbon roses.

The roses definitely seem to just be pinwheel style which is very easy and doable, however I am a bit more confused about the leaves. They look like a number of straight stitches in various lengths and directions that fill in a leaf-like shape. I have no idea if this technique has a name and if there is a proper method for it, because I am a silly beginner who is very uneducated in embroidery.

Anyway I do my best and hopefully I got close enough. Ribbon embroidery is really all about the texture, which is really lovely to look at. Except I have trouble looking at my own work for too long because I start nitpicking all the mistakes I made...

Adding the green and leaves really helps the embroidery come to life.

I took even fewer pictures of the embroidery process than kumya's JSK this time because it's not that interesting. I was definitely getting sick of doing the same pinwheel over and over...

I stupidly decided that aside from embroidering the front of the brim, I also wanted a little bit of embroidery on the back of the brim for interest, as well as on the side.

The designs I drafted out for these two pieces is much simpler, but still, more work....

Almost ready for construction! Hopefully a lot faster with the handwork out of the way.

I iron on some interfacing onto the back brim panel and the bonnet band for slight extra stiffness.

The bottom part of the brim is plain cotton sateen because I was worried that the part that touches the head would get dirtier more quickly it if was velveteen.

I wanted some lace gathered around the brim and an extra velveteen ruffle on the back of the band, so I prepare that now. The lace is gathered with a single gathering thread and sewn down before sandwiching between the two brim panels.

The upper flowers ended up a little closer to the top of the band then I intended, but I think it's okay.

Gathering brim and attaching it to band. Because the velvet fabric is so thick, the usual "sew one line of stitching with a wide stitch length" not only made the fabric incredibly difficult to gather, but the thin polyester thread also continually broke when trying to do so. Therefore, I opted for an alternative method I think I'd remember seeing in my sewing machine manual of all things--a zigzag carefully stitched over a central gathering thread. This worked much better, although I probably should have used a thicker/extra strong thread as the central gathering thread because it did break the second time I had to gather the brim due to a mistake.

I also add a bit of lace to the inside of the brim. I think this adds some luxury and frilliness between the head and the bonnet's brim, so I wanted to add a small width. I probably could have used even more of the lace's width since it turned out very subtle when worn. But I still think it adds a small amount of interest to the innermost part of the brim and was worth adding.

Unfortunately here after sewing on both brim parts I realize that I gathered both using an incorrectly marked centre line, so I had to rip it out and do it again ;_;

Next, I can carefully align and pin the bottom of the brim to the bonnet and sew it down. I tack this down by hand because I'm not skilled/accurate enough with a sewing machine to topstitch both sides nicely at once (look closely, and my messy stitching is quite visible...)

I also fold in the raw edges and finish the sides of the brim by hand, leaving some openings for ribbon ties.

At this point I spray almost the whole bonnet with water to disperse and fade my markings. Unfortunately, some of the earlier batches of ribbon that I dyed (Can you tell the variance in the 3 dye batches I needed to do?) were probably not washed well after dying and seem to have bled into the fabric from the water...but hopefully it's not too noticeable.

Next I topstitched all around the brim and attached the ribbon ties.

I bought some double sided velvet ribbon in my last minute supplies shipment and made some bows from it. I think the material is a little thick and petersham would have worked alright as well, but the consistent velvet material feels more luxurious, doesn't it? I also think as an added benefit (?) the ribbon being plush and double sided made the bows more puffy looking.

I add some clips to the sides and a toupee clip to the top for security. I opted for a toupee clips because I think it's really the way to go if you don't want the head item to move at all, no matter how thin or slippery your hair.

Finished.

Bonus 1: rose accent pin

I was in a bit of a rush at this point as it was near the end of the week coming up to the show, so I didn't take any photos of the process here but the technique and templates I used were identical to my handmade faux rose rosettes I made for UM (and the bonus corsages). I have a post with all the details of this sitting in my drafts that I will post eventually, and I will update this post when that happens.

The brooch was just meant to add a bit of 3D faux flower accent to the bonnet, bringing in the rose motif even more. Partially inspired by the faux flowers BABY adds to their bonnets sometimes, like on Milk Tea Doll.

The fabric was "custom dyed" with the same fiber reactive dye I used for the silk. The fabric was further starched, cut out by hand, and shaped with flower iron tools before gluing together.

Bonus 2: matching embroidered mask

I wasn't sure about whether or not I wanted to wear a matching mask, but decided to do so for situations when I would want my face at least half-covered in public. I didn't really expect to be visible in fashion show pictures as someone in the back, but just in case. (I think this decision was worth it, although my makeup transferred all over the thing and in most pictures my face was even more unflattering. eh well)

I forgot to take a lot of pictures of my process for this, but it's very uninteresting and not dissimilar from every other mask sewalong from 2020. I draft out a design similar to the bonnet motifs on both of my mask panels (cotton sateen), and embroider.

I should have embroidered closer to the centre of the mask because when worn the embroidery is not very visible/covered by my hair at the sides. What can I do since the panels were already cut though...oh well!

The lining material is some Japanese CLEANSE Ex fabric I had bought previously to make masks during the pandemic. It's supposed to be antibacterial and antiviral, as well as washable, but I have no idea how well supported those claims are.

Sew together normally on both upper and lower sides, turn inside out, add a channel for nose wire and side channels for elastic.

I also have some mask elastic on hand so I use that.

And the finished outfit again with all my items~

Your night had started with a video call with the two aforementioned boys. You three decided to play random play dance which resulted in the current argument.

Eric, who was losing, thought that it was unfair and was loudly complaining about his disadvantage since you chose a Girls Generation video, which Changmin highly disagreed with.

You rolled your eyes and took off your headphones, informing them that you were going to get a drink.

Stepping into the hallway of your apartment, you heard two awfully familiar voices making jabs at each other. Your plans of getting a refreshment quickly changed as you made your way to the front door.

“…Me and her are, she’ll never love you.” Was the last thing you heard before opening the door.

Both of the boys were clearly caught off-guard by your presence, giving you time to assess the situation. Both looked quite upset as they turned at you, each holding a bouquet of flowers.

“Yeonjun—”

He came rushing towards you, a triumphant smile on his face at the fact that you acknowledged him first, cutting you off in process.

He didn’t even let you finish your sentence before bombarding. “Baby! There you are, I’m so sorry about everything, but I do really love you. Let’s talk about us. Please hear me out!”

It’s a question, technically, but it sounded more like a demand.

“What are you doing here?” You continued, shrugging yourself free from his grasp.

His arms fell to his sides at your words and the apathy apparent in them

“Huh?”

You took a step forward while he took one back, your hand leaning against the door of your apartment for support.

“Wasn’t I clear? I told you that we were never really together. You have done nothing but fucking hurt me, and I am not interested in hearing you out. And I’m definitely not interested in ever getting together with you.” You spat.

“And even if I did have it in my heart to forgive you— which I do not right now— it wouldn’t matter. There will never ever be an us again, Yeonjun… because I am in love w.. with someone else.”

Your eyes trailed off to Sunwoo to gauge his reaction. To your surprise, he stares at the ground, letting his arms fall to his side. Taking a step forward out of the doorway, you notice him turn away a little from you and furrow his eyebrows. He didn't say anything, and he didn't have to. You knew what the heartbroken expression on his face meant. But at that moment, it only annoyed you.

Without warning, you grabbed Sunwoo’s collar and made him face you. His eyes widened at your sudden proximity.

“Oh, for God's sakes, Sunwoo, wipe that look off your face. You are obviously the one I love, you dumbass!” You exclaimed. It came out louder than you meant it to, but you wouldn't take it back. You meant every word.

A smile made its way on Sunwoo’s blushing face. He slowly moved your hand off of his shirt and clasped your fingers together. After all these years, finally hearing those words and knowing they match how he has felt all this time made his heart feel like it was growing at least three sizes.

“But I love you!” You two suddenly heard, interrupting your little moment.

Quite honestly, you forgot about the fact that Yeonjun was only standing a half meter away while you confessed your love to Sunwoo.

Sunwoo rolled his eyes at the other boy’s whining tone and started walking you back to the entrance of your apartment, completely waving Yeonjun off.

“So? You’d be a fool if you didn’t!” He scoffed. “But she clearly doesn’t love you, so I don’t know what you’re still doing here. She’s mine.”

“W-What? Yn?!” Was the last you hear from your ex-boyfriend as your new boyfriend pulled you gently inside, paying no mind to the call of your name.

“You heard him! I’m his.”

You shrugged as you turned to him, giggling as Sunwoo slammed the door shut in his face.

Yeonjun stood there for a while, dumbfounded at everything that had happened. Maybe a few months ago, you would’ve felt bad at the tears rolling down his flawless skin. Clearly, he has never experienced anything close to heartbreak. But you didn't. You didn't feel bad for him. You couldn't feel anything for him anymore besides disappointment. And those feelings were nothing compared to what you felt for the lovesick boy in front you.

You excused yourself once more and opened the door one final time for the night.

“And by the way—” You called out to Yeonjun, whose face lit up as he saw you.

“—I’m allergic to roses.”

Rivals: Hmm, this is a really interesting comparison! I wouldn't have immediately classified Doppo as a "act first, think later" character, but he definitely has those moments. The music is bouncy but not immediately doing it for me. I think it's one of those songs I'll grow to like quickly, though.

White and Black: (not to be confused with Doppo's Black or White, naturally) SHADY BOYS, LET'S GOOOOOO! I love this match-up. I think they are the kind of people to have a meet-cute in which they committed identity fraud and/or credit card fraud on one another. Anyway, I love the style here. Team Rocket-ass mfers. I agree with the top YT comment at the time of writing, which is, "This is the most fanfic-y thing Hypmic has ever officially released, and I am here for it." I also love that neither of them makes one single effort to hide their scumminess. Truly a duo for the ages.

Thanks for Having Us! Now Look Alive! Osaka Big Up: (or whatever people are calling the Sasara/Roshou one) I adore the fact that Sasara introduces them as a three-person group ft. Rei, but Rei just happens to be doing something else (stealing Juuto's identity, most like) and thus it's a two-person act today. Sasara and Roshou's comedy/speaking dynamic is much more relaxed and natural feeling than it was in their first appearance in Ah, Osaka Dreamin' Night, which is a nice reflection of the current state of their friendship status. Music is chill. I'd like to hear more of it before forming more opinions. Their singing voices sound good with this older, slower style of song.

The Demons' Flowers: I appreciate how the MV style departs from usual Hypmic MV to mimic the MVs for this kind of music. Very JRPG-esque. The lyrics strike me as a little generic for music projects, which is atypical for Hypmic, but it's definitely appropriate for Juushi.

Get busy: I really like this match-up; their high energy works together well here, as does their commitment to working together with the homies to kick absolute ass. I'm not sure KR fully understands the connotation of the English title they've chosen; they're probably going for more of a "Take it easy...but take it!" vibe.

Viva la liberty: While the music itself isn't doing much for me yet, I like this take on how both Saburou and Ramuda have grown throughout the story while still acting in very similar ways to their act 1 selves. An unusual match-up, but I can dig it.

What Lies Beyond the Dreaming: Wow, I really like this. Like Scenario Liar, it almost feels confessional in the sense of how it creates a closed sense of solidarity with the listener (you're the only one I can trust, let me tell you my story for your ears only, etc.). In that case, it's being spoken to his brother, I suppose? Would love to hear the full song.

Closer: I like Hitoya's singing a lot in this one. The darker lyrics and tone suit them both quite well, and I wonder if this points to Jakurai and Hitoya finally talking things out, including Jakurai's experiences in the war, in act 3. Or perhaps that's simply wishful thinking.

My Life: Positivity: Aside from the obvious enjoyment of Hifumi wrangling the rest of the cast into being his enthusiastic background singers, I really like how this song is both bright and bubbly at surface level but says a lot of deeper things about Hifumi's character, like how he's willing to open himself up to being hurt again so long as he has the protection of his friends and loved ones. I don't think it's the kind of thing I'd listen to, but I am looking forward to seeing the full thing.

Move Your Body Til You Die!: Roger that, sir. o7 Very glad to see that Riou's solos are as silly as ever. I think this is my favorite so far in terms of music. It is most definitely my favorite in terms of music videos.

Will-o'-the-Wisp: I really, really, REALLY like the lyrics and how much growth they show for Samatoki. It's nice how you can tell just musically how much he's healed and mellowed out since the start of the series.

HIPHOPPIA: This is my actual favorite musically, and while I understand and appreciate the thematic point of having so many styles of music on this album, I'm personally a bit sad there isn't more of the classic hip-hop sound. Lot of interesting imagery in the lyrics.

Conclusion: Move Your Body Til You Die! is a work of art.

When you explain to her how you watched or read about all these crime shows based on real murders in the mortal realm, she begins helping you find the people who committed them to question them.

Charlie will save you from any bug that dares thretens you, just expect her to want a few kisses as her reward.

Charlie has a mega sweet tooth, and she loves to make you your favorite coffee and other little snack cakes to munch on when you two have long nights working together.

If she can't draw her image for the hotel or her next master plan, she will come to you and ask you to help her pull it.

How AURORA's album "The Gods We Can Touch" fits perfectly The Hunchback Of Notre Dame religious oppression theme —————— ⊹₊ ⋆. ♱ ₊˚ .⊹

I am NOT active in this fandom, but I have some things to say about it that might interest you guys. After this post I will go back to posting about my current fandom as always.

Basically, I watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time in my life last month because I'm hyperfocused on Disney films, specifically the classic 2D films.

It's a masterpiece, really, I wouldn't add anything to the story, everything it's just *chef's kiss*

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION THAT, ONE OF MY FAVORITE SINGERS, AURORA, HAS A WHOLE ALBUM ABOUT RELIGIOUS ABUSE AND NEGLIGENCE, PREJUDICE, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT and I just can't be normal about it

This album is called The Gods We Can Touch.

Yeah the title is pretty clear, while it's still open to interpretation. A huge part of this album is about religion, but also there is a huge part about respect, love and humanity, and she's not only inspired by christianity but also greek mythology. (Aurora says she loves the idea of imperfect gods, because this makes them closer to us, and maybe that's what the title is about. But she also says she sees God in the world around her, the love, the nature, the people, and maybe that's what she can touch. I don't know :/ let's go back to the Hunchback of Notre Dame stuff)

I won't go into detail about this right now, but we all know that there are many (many) people who use faith as an excuse to commit atrocities like Frollo, and this album is about that, I'm not really good at explaining so showing works better for me, some of Aurora's takes are:

The way people use religion to often demonize human behaviors, such as sexuality;

We need to choose between what's right or wrong, there's no in between, which is... questionable;

(Some) People use religion to opress, disrespect and blame anyone who's just living a free life;

And Aurora doesn't like to explain her lyrics, she leaves them up for interpretation. Although their meanings are really clear, I personally see these songs as an ironic criticism of these oppressions, not so much about God himself, but about the people who use his name to oppress. (She's an atheist, so I HIGHLY believe that she's talking about God himself, her lyrics seem to be talking to those people while disguising them as talking to God, and the message is very clear.)

This theme is extremely addressed in the movie, BUT this fandom doesn't know these songs yet. AND THEY NEED TO. IT'S A PITY THEY DON'T KNOW THEM.

Something I HATE is having to watch 'long' videos that I'm not interested in, so if you want to give it a chance but the length of the songs makes you discouraged, just listen to the first 30/40 seconds and decide if you want to watch the rest or not. I know how you feel. I will add videos with lyrics for the songs for people who understand English more easily if they can read the words (like me)

The four songs she really focus on this topic are: Heathens, You Keep Me Crawling, Blood In The Wine and The Devil Is Human.

These songs talk about the same topic but with intensities, explicitness and harshness at different levels. The first song is soft and proposes questioning, the second song talks in a desperate tone about how something that should bring her comfort is just abuse in disguise, the third song portrays revolt and sings the lyrics in a more explicit way, and the last song is harsher, which speaks in a more bold and direct way, like poison.

The song Heathens is soft and makes us question, in a slightly interpretative but still direct way, about what is said to be a sin but is just oppression. How people condemn "sinners" as heathens when everything we come into contact with is considered sin. These lyrics are a little confusing and require interpretation, but it is possible to understand what she meant with them.

You Keep Me Crawling has a double meaning. Both match Frollo really well (lmao). The first is clearer because she says how small and humiliated she feels, begging "on her knees", and this just hurts her — it's not a love relationship, but oppression, "Giving into love should never hurt for me, giving into love should set me free..." But there is also another interpretation, which is that of an abusive relationship, as I said I'm not very good at explanations so it's better for you to read the lyrics (or listen to the song which is a better option). These lyrics really remind me both of Quasimodo and Esmeralda, each one of them with their own situations.

The third song is about the pride of being a "sinner", if being a 'sinner' means being free and loving others. As I said, those lyrics are more explicit and they don't require so many interpretation like the last one. "I was given a name (I'm a human) before I was given blood (before violence), like you were given your faith before there was made a God (you're like this, but not because of your religion, you're evil because that's what you are)" it's pretty clear for me, her word choice and the way she sings these it's simply breathtaking. It's perfect for Esmeralda btw

And finally the song that motivated me to make the post, The Devil Is Human. Again, the title has to do with human beings always being condemned to sin and called pagans, on a level that humanity is so demonized by people, that this title means "our humanity is so hated that we are compared to the devil himself ". "The worst sin we can commit is to give in to what human beings were made to do: love." And again this is where the phrase "proud to be a sinner" comes from, as it is not about true sin, but accepting the judgments placed upon you just because you are... free. (You will be called a sinner if you are part of the LGBTQI+ community for example, even though loving should not be considered a sin. But that's not all, there are more reasons why she says this, such as cultural diversity on the planet and women's independence often result in violence, like the burning of witches, persecution, and more. You know what I'm talking about.)

In this song she sings in a more defiant way, and it seems like she is referring to God, but in fact she is referring to the people who contribute to the culture of hate and intolerance (at least in my interpretation). She's not afraid to be outrageous, bold, tough with her words, and doesn't regret anything she says. Reminds me of Esmeralda's actions and words towards Frollo! She has the same attitude!

This song was previously exclusive to vinyl and later became a single/deluxe. I believe it's because it would be too controversial to be placed on the main album. It would cause revolt and misinterpretations! And she didn't even made an official lyric video to it. That's fanmade.

So basically that's it! I was looking at some reviews of Hunchback Of Notre Dame and this came to my mind, and I hate the fact that people in this fabdom don't know about this wonderful album, as it fits perfectly with some themes in the film.

Considering my hairstyle is difficult and that some people do have a harder time trying getting a hang of the hairstyle, plus the fact that for some people it takes more time, than it does for other people to do, which I find nothing wrong with it, I will help you, as many times you still have trouble with getting your hair into my hairstyle... Take a look and see how I did, cutie...". You went to look in the mirror to see how yout hair turned out. Once you looked in the mirror, you were extremely, happy on how amazing how your hair turned out, when he worked on your hair, as you hugged him and said, "Thank you, Choso... I really appreciate it... I'm really, so thankful that I owe you my life for it...", as you then kissed his left side of his facial cheeks. He replied, "I wouldn't go that far, since you don't owe me a thing... I'm just more than happy to help you, especially when it comes to styling your hair up... When Halloween came, you invited Choso to come with you to drink some coffee or cappuccino or tea at a cafe. Alot of people were complimenting on your hair, as you then told them, "Thanks... My lovely, boyfriend Choso, styled it up for me...". Choso pretty much dressed up, as himself, so it's quite obvious the both of you dressed up the same way, as eachother (which neither of you mind). "Hey Choso...", you said, as you got his attention, as he replied, "Yes, (Any Gender Reader Name)?". You then mentioned, "I'm curious on why you haven't tried taking on a hairstyling career. You did great with styling up my hair and using styling tools.". Choso then answered, "It would be nice... (Up to reader's imagination, if both Choso and the reader decided to watch any Halloween movies together)

Once both you and Choso went to the bed the both of you share together, the both of you snuggled, as he held you as his little spoon. You then cooed, "Hey, Choso... Today is the most fun I had ever had on Halloween and the most fun I had ever had in general... And it's all, because of you, my sweet pumpkin...". Choso then whispered, as he replied, "Aaaaawwwww... You're such a sweetheart, my pumpkin spice... I feel the same way... And it's all because of you, too...", as he snuggled you closer to him, considering that you're still his little spoon.

Choso, madesure he held you just tight enough to keep you into a spoon, while trying to keep you comfortable enough for you to fall asleep. He definitely thinks you look, so cute and precious when you're sleeping (even tough he thinks that of you in general). He waited until you fell asleep, then he letted himself fall asleep, after that. It was definitely a nice and cuddly session that Halloween night.

good ask, i've been mentally chewing on it for a number of days. this list won't include the past two co-hosts jsyk

chris - the absolute goat, THE oney player. i find his overall dynamic shifting to either counter guests or match their energy really interesting. i enjoy that he seems to play more of a straight man around the sillier guys (cory and adam namely), and it's sweet how much he cracks up over zach's and cory's jokes. when he feels the need to play the role of 'the silly one' he can be kinda overbearing, i appreciate his humor much more when it's unforced. he's very indigo, fuchsia and cyan colored to me

zach - THE funnyman, he's undeniably the highlight of whatever video he's in and i'm here for it. he's got great chemistry with chris and lyle, he works off both of them the best. he can definitely overshadow the others jokes, but i wouldn't say i dislike the dynamics he brings to the table regardless. i'm also a huge fan of his political/pop culture trivia, it's like taking a peak into his brain. he's the colors of autumn; orange, red, brown AND green, what more could you want?

tomar - i'll be honest i'm not as autistic about this guy but i really appreciate how he responds to scenarios. he's like the backbone of the lets plays he's in, he's got the straight man charm without being completely dismissive of jokes. it is still really funny when he's oblivious to joke setups tho i feel like those are the best moments. he's one of those guys you can introduce to anybody and have them get along no matter how different their personalities are. also his voice acting is fucking stellar. he's THE coolest tones of purple ever, and he's got that emerald association to him

lyle - he makes me feel fucking crazy. his humor can come off as disconnected from the others, but i appreciate how he rolls with his own jokes and how willing he is to "yes and" literally any scenario. he builds off the others well without drawing attention away from conversations or gameplay, he's the perfect balance of silly jokester and straight man when it's called for. fits in like a goddamn chameleon that motherfucker. extremely red coded, with hints of green and silver. (a royal purple is in there if you squint!)

cory - i'm in the 1% of people who enjoy the FUCK outta cory, maybe even moreso since he became a regular. i love seeing how his scatterbrain connects dots that don't align, and it's really endearing when he infodumps about sonic or whatever else. he isn't given enough credit for the times in recent years where he catches himself during a tangent, and actually steers the conversation back to something relevant. people talk about him as if he's a contestant on a reality show who's about to be voted off. he's fun, and he radiates a mix of indigo, hot pink and orangey yellow colors

King Charming's raised voice jolted his daughter out of her thoughts and she blinked at him, putting her sword down at her side.

"Dad..why'd you stop?"

"Maybe because you zoned out for almost three minutes there, hon. If this had been an actual battle ground, you'd be long gone by now,'' King Charming said, walking over to a table at the side and grabbing a glass of water.

Chloe groaned and itched at her neck awkwardly.

''I'm sorry, Daddy. I know I got you out here so I could do some sword training with you to get my mind off of things, yet here I am still stressing over the fact that I might not have enough notebooks for the semester.''

''I doubt that'll be an issue, Chloe,'' a calm, soft, lightly accented voice spoke, causing both Chloe and the King to turn round.

Queen Cinderella walked in to meet her husband and daughter, looking elegant in a simple yet stunning day gown that was silvery-white but shone with a blue hue when hit by the light. The dress complimented her gorgeous brown skin and went well with her honey blonde hair, done up in braids and held in an intricate fish-tail plait.

Chloe loved the way her mother's bedazzled crown was placed on her bed of glorious hair, although she already looked like royalty regardless of it.

''If you run out, which I doubt you will,'' she continued, ''the school has more than enough that you can use, ma cherie.''

''I never once carried a book at the beginning of a new semester,'' the King said, going up to meet his wife.

''And yet he always managed to pass excellently well,'' the Queen said, leaning into her husband's arms.

''What can I say? I am charming,'' he said, giving her a soft kiss on the lips.

''Mmm....that's debatable,'' she teased.

Chloe rolled her eyes playfully.

Her parents were never shy in expressing their love for each other.

Her phone buzzed from a pocket in her pants and she pulled it out only to see yet other text from her older brother.

''Qui est-ce, bébé? (Who is it, baby?)'' the Queen when she noticed Chloe typing back a reply.

She picked and raised her phone up immediately greeted by her brother's smiling face.

''Bonjour, baby sis,'' he said, shaking his golden curls out of his face.

Chad had inherited his features from their grandfather, having fair skin, hair the colour of a wheat field and eyes like a tropical waterfall.

Chloe, on the other hand, had combined their parents looks, with her skin that was a perfect light brown, deeper toned blonde hair like their mother and eyes like a flickering fireplace that matched their father's.

''I assume the pink thong on your lamp doesn't belong to you?'' she whispered back.

''H-how did that get there?'' Chad laughed awkwardly, moving his phone so it wouldn't show.

''Tell Audrey I said hi,'' Chloe said, still in a low voice.

''Yeah, well, she's out getting her hair done so I'll see her much later.''

''Are you talking to Chad, baby? Bring the phone over!'' Queen Cinderella said, gesturing for Chloe to come.

''Mommy! Pops!'' Chad said immediately the Queen took the phone from Chloe.

''Chadwick, mon fils!(my son!)'' the Queen gushed.

''How you doing, bud?'' asked the King.

''About to finish getting ready for the tourney match. You still coming?''

''Of course! Your mum's gonna drop Chlo off, help her settle down and join us there.''

''Really wish I could be there with you, Chloster, but Jay has been on everyone's asses about the game-''

''-Language, Chadwick!'' his mother scolded.

''Yeah, watch your tone around your mama, college boy,'' the King warned, his voice strict, but giving his son a wink through the screen.

''What happened to your manners, your royal blondness?'' Chloe teased.

Chad made a face at her and was about to continue talking when Chloe's phone started beeping and buzzing.

''What's that?'' he asked.

''The alarm I set so mum and I would leave the castle on time,'' she replied, tapping her phone screen to deactivate it.

''I think we'd better head out now, ma cherie. It's a two hour drive to Auradon if we don't run into any traffic,'' the Queen said.

Chloe nodded but her brother noticed how her face fell slightly.

''Hey, it's gonna be okay, Chlo. Auradon Prep is the-''

''-the best, I know,'' she completed. ''And it's even more special because mum and dad went there and so did you.''

''Exactly! It'll be a breeze. Don't be such a worry wart like mum.''

''Very funny, Chadwick," the Queen said sarcastically, but with a small smile on her face .“I’ll see you when I’m done at AP.”

“See you soon, Mummy,” Chad said. “Bye, Dad. Eat rocks, Chlo. Love you.”

The call went off and Chloe sighed, pocketing her phone.

“I guess it’s time to say the final goodbyes,” she said, looking at her dad.

“Aww, hon.”

King Charming wrapped his daughter in a big hug, resting his head on top of her blonde curls.

“I’m gonna miss you, mouse,” he said.

“Me too, Daddy.”

Chloe inhaled his clean, woody scent, knowing she wouldn’t get to smell his cologne for the next few months.

“My princess,” the king said, when he released her from the hug, admiring her features that were so similar to his own.

Queen Cinderella watched them, blinking rapidly to avoiding tearing up.

“Your Majesty,” a servant said, bowing as he stood in the doorway. “All the princess’ bags have been loaded into the car.”

“Thank you, Mithius,” the Queen said. “My loves, I’ll be in the car too.”

She kissed her husband again and stroked Chloe’s face lovingly.

“You can put any last minute things from your room in your rucksack,” the king said as she walked away, “including a new pair of shoes your mum and I got for the semester.”

That made Chloe light up and she beamed.

“Really?”

“But of course. Our baby can’t start school without some new kicks. It’s like a family tradition.”

“Now I’m gonna miss you more than ever.”

“I know, I know. What can I say? I’m amazing.”

“Daddy!”

The king chuckled. “Your mum and I will come visit you regularly, mouse, don’t worry. Plus I’m sure you’re gonna make so many new friends; you won’t ever be lonely.”

Chloe laughed with him. “Yeah, sure.”

“I mean it. Now, go on. You don’t want to keep your mama waiting.”

After one last hug and a trip to her room to pick up some notebooks and her new shoes, Chloe was seated with her mum in their cream coloured limousine.

“This is it, Cherie. You’re on your way to a bright and beautiful future,” Queen Cinderella said, smiling sweetly at her daughter.

“Is that how you felt on your first day?”

“You mean my first day in a new school in a whole new country with step-sisters that hated my guts? Absolutely not.”

“My bad; you definitely had it worse.”

“Well, it’s not a competition, dear. And my greatest joy is that you and your brother have never faced any of the difficulties I did.”

“Do you think grandmere and grandpere would’ve wanted you to attend Auradon Prep? Grandpere was a lord, right?”

“He was, and the title was supposed to be passed onto me when he died, but my step-mother had other ideas and I didn’t have the power to go against her. When we moved from France down here, the only reason she put me in school at all was to avoid suspicion, and even though my step-sisters literally wanted to die at the prospect of me being in the same school as them, she couldn’t bear the thought of anyone thinking she couldn’t afford the best money could buy for even someone as lowly as me.”

“And as chance would have it, you met a French prince that swept you off your feet, and your life has been a fairytale ever since.”

“That’s why I want you to go there and find your own. We can’t keep you hidden away in Cinderellasburg forever. The world deserves to meet you, and you deserve to experience it all.”

“You make it all sound so dreamy, but I don’t know, I’m still scared. I hope I can live up to the legacy you, Dad and Chad have set…..okay maybe just you and Dad’s legacy. You get what I mean, though.”

Queen Cinderella laughed at Chloe’s expression, reaching out to arrange her curls.

“Just be yourself, Chloe. Be true to who you are; don’t compromise. You’re perfect. Okay?”

Chloe smiled gratefully. “Merci, maman.”

Her phone buzzed and she looked at the screen, brightening up immediately.

“It’s Dizzy. She’s asking if we’re on the way,’ she told her mum as she began rapidly typing out a reply.

“Tell her we’ll be there in half an hour, and that her mum can only use a vacation as an excuse to not call back three times before it gets sus.”

“I am not telling my cousin that you just used the word ‘sus’.”

“I know for a fact that I used it within the right context.”

Chloe bit back a snort, raising her eyes from her phone briefly to see her mum’s nose in the air sassily.

It was from moments like this that one could tell where Chad got some of his whims from.

“Ooh, Dizzy says Aunt Faye’s going to be at the Welcome Ceremony today.”

“Yes, she’s officially handing over the role of Principal to Uma today. The ceremony’s going to be incredible.”

“Wait…Uma the pirate? My Principal? Okay, now I can’t wait to get to school.”

The minutes in the car seemed to fly away as a comfortable silence washed over mother and daughter.

Before Chloe knew it, they were driving over the smooth, cobbled paths of Auradon Prep.

The car was parked in the designated spot for the Charmings in the parking lot and the Queen and princess came down.

As usual, there were bows and greetings directed to them the moment they were sighted.

Chloe smiled politely in return as they walked the path together, only to hear an ear-shattering squeal that made her smile double in size.

Dizzy, her step-cousin, ran up to meet them, wearing a green, silky romper with reddish brown hair styled atop her head in space buns that were both childish and mature at once.

“Hey,” they chorused as soon as she got to them and they shared a hug.

“It’s so good to see you again, Chloe. You look sooo cute. And Aunt Ella, ravishing as always. Is that a custom design?”

“But of course. I designed it specially for my baby’s big day.”

Dizzy observed the dress closely, nodding in awe and approval.

“The stitch work is phenomenal.”

“I know. The mice really outdid themselves on this one.”

“I’ll definitely come round the castle sometime to check out your new work. But for now, I need to get Chloe settled it.”

Chloe then noticed the bedazzled ear-piece Dizzy was wearing and the clipboard and pen in her right hand.

“I’m still on the clock right now, but you can just join the line over there to meet my girl Celia. I’ve already picked out the perfect room for you in the system beforehand, so all you have to do is sign in with Celia and pick up your dorm key, okay?”

“Okay,” Chloe said with a nod.

Dizzy gave her step-aunt and cousin one last smile before she walked past them to continue welcoming new students.

“You ready, angel?” Queen Cinderella asked.

Chloe took in a deep breath and released.

“As ready as I’ll ever be.”

Good Stuff: ENTERGALACTIC

or How to Stop Worrying & Make the Vibe Count

I always confuse Kid Cudi and Kid Fury from The Read podcast like on god, people need to get more crazy with stage names. This year marks rapper Kid Cudi's 8th studio album Entergalactic and he decided to produce a whole movie centered around it; something Gorillaz somehow hasn't done yet which baffles me. It was intended as a series, but they were smart enough to just compile all the chapters into a film which definitely worked. With that said, and the fact that upfront this looks beautiful, was this just a poor excuse to hustle a soundtrack? Well, if I know anything about the hustle,

Cudi spared no expense because this felt phenomenal

Initial visuals, designs and movement really showed that they were going for the style of Into the Spider-verse and they undoubtedly succeeded. Said this before, if Spider-verse was the gold medal, this is the victory lap and I'm so glad more features are really pushing against the whole realism era before to make the look and flow feel "less real" but more alive creatively. It still takes some getting used when the characters look like they're buffering with the frame rate, but when they flex it really pops off. There are even surprises within this film that I dare not spoil. Visuals alone, I seriously recommend watching this as High-Def as possible. If this was just a 90 minute music video, I would still watch it.

As you should know though, visuals aren't everything in film, so is there a story? Well, people keep saying this is When Harry Met Sally for black people but I never watched that movie. I just know that it's a simple romance about two stoner artists that fall in love and wonder if it's meant to be. When I say simple, I mean it because this is admittedly safe and predictable. Not bad, but I'm not a fan of the 2nd act monkeywrench that happens, especially when you can see it coming and I feel more focus could've been on our couple balancing love and careers as opposed to abruptly killing the vibe with asinine drama. And that's what this film is: such a Vibe. Everyone is mature, chill in discussing their matters, and even when problems arise, they don't make it such a big deal. The loudest things get is in the first third when our MCs are partying hard to celebrate their newfound successes. Otherwise, the film is all for a soft, intimate, relaxed tone that matches Cudi's R&B. What matters most is that you see what our MCs Jabari and Meadow of the movie see in each other and in the well-characterized New York they live in, and I can't hate this effective love story that personally resonated to me as a Black American.

Everything felt unified in making this feel beautiful

Now, word from the bathroom is that Kid Cudi is looking to (semi-)retire from music after Entergalactic to invest in projects like this film. Given what I've heard before, this year, I wouldn't exactly blame him. I would gladly see more styled features from this dude, this movie proved he can work out more than just music. I don't just want more stylized animations, I want more diverse talent flexing in more than just essentialist themes. Again, this isn't complex plotwise but the music, animation, and characterization make this matter more than I expected. If Netflix and Cudi are looking to make more of this, I'm all for it.

My Fair Lady

I mainly started tumblr because I've been watching tumblr related videos and my recent facination with movies. Little backstory I just graduated from high school and always wanted to have a job associated with fashion. I never wanted to do the classic 'fashion designer' that works in a fashion house and recently considered the idea of becoming a costume designer for movies/plays. And thus my movie obsession begun

I'll probably be posting one movie 'review' everyday

So first movie 'review' (I don't know what to call these lol) will be My fair lady directed by George Cukor

Little summary:

My fair lady a 1964 movie stars Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle a homeless girl with a thick accent and a bad attitude who begs and sells flowers for a living. When a rude and snobbish language professor Henry Higgins played by Rex Harrison mets her, argues with her and promtly takes it as a challenge to teach Eliza how to speak as a propper english woman and pass her duchess at an embassy ball. After days of practising and a lot of arguing the professor succeeds and boasts about his accomplishment without giving Eliza any creadit, which makes her feel used causing her to flee his house and go back to her old life. When she tries to leave the professors house she encounters Freddy a man she previously met who was enamoured by her wit and wants to marry her. She refuses and tries to live as she used to, when that doesn't work she goes to Henry's mother's house to tell her about how her son has treated Eliza. That's when they meet again, but again all they do is argue when Eliza announces that she will be marrying Freddy. The professor due to his ego doesn't think that Eliza will actually go through with the plan and will come crawling back to him. But when he returns home alone he realises that he is in love with Eliza and they live happily ever after lol

My thoughts:

Although I don't really like romance movies as an enjoyer of the enemies-to-lovers troupe I found this movie enjoyable. Most of all I loved the costume design, my favourite scene being the massive choreographed horse race scene where the fabulous dresses and the vogue-esk movements show the elegance and prestise of the upper class. All of Elizas dresses are marvelous and show her evolution throught the film. From a poor flower girl, to then slowly dressing more and more elegantly to match her role, to a full glowing duchess and lastly to an elegant lady more true to herself topping of the film with a beautiful pink dress symbolising her new found love for the professor. I liked the dynamic between the two love intrests, both of them being head strong and hot headed, although I did think the professors bad attitude towards Eliza could have been toned down a little to show some moments of sweetness to justify Elizas feelings towards him. Because literaly how did she fall for him? I get that thats how the dynamic works but in the movie he is being sometimes way to unnecesseraly rude to her, even hitting her (if I remember correctly), which, at least for me, wouldn't make me fall in love with someone. I understand that thats his character, that he is so arrogant that he is convinced he could do anything but I don't remember any good moments between them that would make me be convinced that he is right for her. Even when he succeds he is rude and ignores Eliza making her feel like a test subject, her role being to boost the professors ego and then be discarded and forgotten of. The only reason I knew that they would fall in love is because this is a 1964 movie. I don't think that her marrying Freddy would have made for a satisfactory ending but at least he was nice to her. I'm going to comment one more thing about this romance and then I'm going to wrap this ramble, WHY DOES AUDREY HEPBURN ALWAYS PAIRED UP WITH OLD DUDES?????? Seriously... almost all of her movies she falls for the way older dude, not that it's a bad thing but it's especially heinous when that older dude treats her like shit. Anyways, I liked the songs, a staple of any older movie, but I did skip most of them for being a little too long. All in all I understand why this movie is a classic and even though it's of a diffferent time it what quite a fun watch. The premise was interesting and the acting perfect. And I would reccomend this movie, especially to lovers of amazing costume design, romance and old classics.

I just end up finding so many covers I like with new songs that I get overwhelmed orz

SO this week I'll highlight a few covers of the 7th track off Nilfruit's NOMAN album, Wozwald (ヲズワルド)!

I haven't been up on the content warning game for these in the past but this song makes me realize i need to step it up better so CONTENT WARNING: for suicide, both ideation in the lyrics and depiction in the video.

oh and just as important, MAJOR FLASHING WARNING for the video, right at the beginning, and also around the bridge at the 3:30-ish mark to the 4:30-ish mark is pretty intense.

Wozwald!!! By Nilfruits/Niru Kajitsu (煮ル果実). One of the like, weirdest songs I've ever heard instrumentally to be this popular now that I think about it... I really adore that fucking... slow, emerging, swingset-creaking-like sound that plays throughout under all the groovy bass, it rules.

Flower's voice is also a fun choice, Nilfruits seems to use her a lot but she was also king of vocal synth originals from like, 2015-2020ish, and to be honest her popularity hasn't even waned that much. But she has this voice that's simultaneously boyish while still working well up high, and the husky engine noise is a feature not a bug in this case, so it's understandable her lasting reign. Although, while this song mostly uses her very high, that little bit at the end of the first chorus "nukedashitai" where her voice drops down is an absolutely fantastic switchup! And in a way her friction-y gravely high voice mirrors that creaking sound in the background as well.

The video's also really great, although I will warn you, I unfortunately can't keep track of music video story lore super well because I get too distracted by the music LOL so I don't totally remember the plot, something loosely inspired by like, Disney and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and like I dunno. The horrors of copyright? It's not about that, sorry, that's just my own disdain about IP laws... But it Could be About That... If You Believe............. ANYWAY I can at least get the gist from the video without getting too deep, and the animation by wooma is fantastic and so so so so SO stylish.

If you know this song already, then you know this cover LOL at nearly 7 times the amount of views on Youtube as that original (5m to 34m... holy shit) I wouldn't be surprised if some people only know the song for this version! SO I guess I don't really Need to talk about it... but I will anyway <3

A take on Wozwald by Miyashita Yuu (宮下遊) which is another case of a cover getting big enough it gets distributed for streaming and buying, we all know it, we all love it, it's like ABSURDLY good. Miyashita Yuu gets wild on this one, altering vocalizations, adding all kinds of harmonies and other layers, switching up his tone and the mix itself, it's crazy.

There's like something to talk about every few seconds: the upward squeaks on "junkie" and "monkey", matching sound effects to the video like exhales and laughs, the high high HIGH note on "bouzuniku...", the soft nasal tone in the "pioneer" line, and we haven't even gotten to the chorus yet. The breathy rolling in the prechorus "light off..." bit with more breathing and vocalizations matching the creaking sound layered over.

AND the "nukedashitai" oooh baby, lemme tell you I ADORE the original's effect of lowering Flower's voice, but I also understand why after this cover came out a lot of coverists also changed that bit to a whisper instead. Miyashita Yuu here whispers in such a hushed, tense way that it's nearly just hints of plosives, such a wild effect.

And of course the second verse has a great part around "megasamenai..." where he uses a deeper tone with a bit more power before slipping into his higher tone again, then layering both styles together in the chorus. AND I can't forget the echoing yell of "kanshisarerya" in the background, awesome.

He matches the instrumental a lot in this cover along with playing off the video's animation, deepening his tone on the end of "...kirenaino" with the winding down of the background music, that's another fun bit.

And I PROMISE I'm almost done BUT I NEEEEEED to talk about that bridge. I said earlier people were inspired by his whisper at the end of the first chorus to use in their own covers: that wasn't the only thing he inspired. He's almost like, a tastemaker in cover-vocalization-adlibs LOL this has happened when he's covered other songs too, dude is very good at finding fun and interesting adlibs! And the way he sings the bridge is a big one: changing that vocalization after the "oide"'s and "oideyo"'s into just a straight up scream... hell yes brother. Inspired many a coverist to just start yelling, I love it. I love a good yell. You might have noticed this about me already. I am unsure how obvious it is.

Sorry for writing like a million paragraphs about this one cover. I've been sitting on this shit for five years you see. I had to finally get it OUT.

Anyway, let's talk about some other covers I really love!

Ken Kamikita, who goes by KK in his cover work, his cover is a favourite:

Honestly possibly the cover I listen to the most now that I think about it, it's addicting to me. His smooth, very "singerly" (making up that word now if it doesn't already exist LOL) and kind of, soulful? voice and singing style might seem a bit unusual for such a depressing song but that's one of the things that makes it so good for me, I love a little tasteful hint of dissonance. Some people's emotional breakdowns sound like whispering, snarling, seething, choking, etc... my emotional breakdowns have BEAUTIFUL VIBRATOS!!!! Do you understand what I mean... do you understand...

I also love the falsetto backing vocals to add more texture, so so so good, and his "nukedashitai", instead of dropping deeper like Flower or whispering like Yuu, he goes into a very soft, slightly vocal fried little tone of his normal singing, and that hits me in the same way I was talking about before: my emotional breakdowns have beautiful vibratos.

But that's not even getting to the best part of this cover. The adlibs. Holy shit.

FIRSTLY that instrumental part after the first chorus, where you hear a really emphasized bit of that creaking, groaning sound I'm so obsessed with: KK like, groans into it and loosens out into a smooth little vocalization... what the hell. It's the greatest thing I've ever heard in my life. When you first hear it, he matched the groan so well that it almost catches you off guard when he switches into the soulful little tune I love it so much.

AND THE BRIDGE, the loud, distorted high tone layer drowning out his deeper singing in the "oide" portion and then instead of Flower's vocalization or Yuu's scream, all kinds of groans and these odd, chaotic vocalizations layer up into this beautiful Mariah Carey-ass belt BY GOD HE DID IT AGAIN!!! HE DID IT AGAIN!!!! It's so good you guys, it's so good. Really adore this cover.

NOW let's talk about a couple human covers I only heard recently, but liked quite a bit!

Ue (うえ)'s cover:

I've been really enjoying this singer a lot, a lot of passion, if that makes sense? He always sounds like he's enjoying singing. This cover plays with a lot of emotive bits, vocal fries, tensing and softening his voice, lots of power here and there too. Very nice cover!

A singer named Otatsu (おたつ。) has another one I like a lot:

This is a more obscure cover in the sense that it's under 1k, but I think it's a really nice one!! Otatsu has this soft, clear tone with just the tiniest hint of nasal which I think sounds quite beautiful! He leans into a breathier, sort of husky sound in the last verse before the end too which I think adds a lot.

AND I gotta talk about a vocal synth cover made by 犬神様 featuring the UTAUloid Mine Laru:

I was not familiar with Laru until I heard this cover, it appears he is a. shark. I love furry utaus. You know, for someone who likes to play with vocal synthesizer software as a hobby, good covers are great advertisement for specific voicebanks for me LOL because of the way the producer jumped up and down the octaves like this, into those deeper tones and the higher pitches, you KNOW I immediately went to check out the voicebanks. I wanna see how many pitches are in that bad boy djkfdsjhlkfdsdgkfds

But I really love this cover, I think the switches between the different tones and appends and pitches sound so cool and interesting, and I love how they went for a really quite whisper at the end of the first chorus!! Awesome cover.

AND ONE MORE one final one. This one's a bit of a wildcard, but I love a good instrumental arrangement: this chiptune cover by mita!

I really love this person's chiptune covers of Nilfruits songs, they always sound so good. This one has a really nice, deep, full tone, and the bridge sounds great with the like, chiptune drum-y snare-y sound, awesome.

AND that is all for the night my friends, I've been ignoring my homework and writing this instead. so. well. (morphs into a marketable plushie of oswald the lucky rabbit before your very eyes and never turns back)

So a bathroom at my dad's house had some superficial damage to the walls and door, and I can't really afford to fix it right now but I don't want to look at the holes and such. So I looked up "DIY Spackle" and patched the smaller holes with what is, essentially, play-doh. That took care of some of the problem, but then I looked at how much doors cost and I was like 'fuck that' and looked up how much wallpaper costs, because I figure we'll replace it eventually but in the mean time I can at least literally paper over the problem.

So I was looking through various peel-and-stick wallpaper options and found a few patterns I liked but wallpaper is actually kind of expensive too. I settled on a few fairly affordable options, then asked Large Bastard to help me pick out a pattern. I was pleasantly surprised when he immediately decided he liked the cheapest pattern, so I ordered it.

Well, Large Bastard had to go out of town for a week so I was at the house by myself and I started putting up the wallpaper. Putting up peel-and-stick wallpaper appears to kind of be a two-person job, so I didn't do a great job of it, especially because the walls I was putting it on were kind of wonky shapes, so the pattern isn't perfectly matched and in some places I had to cut out 'stickers' of wallpaper to cover places where there was a bad overlap. It took a few hours, but I basically got the job done, and then I realized I had a bunch of leftover wallpaper and a wall that still had some big, obviously-crudely-spackled holes, but they were clustered together so I went to the thrift store and found a big frame with a mat and framed a chunk of the wallpaper and hung it up to cover the holes, because I figured that would be kind of a funny way to take care of that problem. Then I went a little overboard, and wrapped some of the wallpaper around the trash can because fuck it, why not, it was just a plain black trash can. I also swapped out the bath mats for one I had originally gotten for the master bath because it matched this bathroom better (you have no idea how much shit I own that is blue and teal; I love teal so much and I own way too much teal and if I'm attempting to be a toned-down, normal-ish person I'll go with a more sedate blue, so we have a lot of blue blankets and sheets and towels and kitchen towels and pillows, etc., but I haven't done anything to the master bath so it's still painted like my dad had it).

So Large Bastard gets home last night and I'm like "hey I finished the bathroom, you should check it out." And he walks into the bathroom and he starts fucking *cackling* and then he sees the framed wallpaper and he starts laughing harder and then he sees the trash can and the bath mat and keeps going and I'm like???????????

And he's like "this is fucking perfect, it looks like a Wolfenstein level, I love it, I had no idea it would look this funny."

Because the wallpaper pattern that I was a bit hesitant to add to my list of options, but was cheap and was in a color that I like, was blue bricks.

Which he picked specifically because "wouldn't it be funny if our bathroom referenced a video game?"

And the answer is "yes" but also goddamnit.
