Ohhhh so would you consider that Crassus let Pompey get away with some things he might have not let others get away with ? Because he recognised his use ?

I think that the only person that Crassus let get away with anything was Cicero, on account of Cicero being Publius’ other father

#Pompey and Crassus were functionally a duumvirate so their balance of power has to do more with keeping each other in check #which Crassus is perfectly positioned to do bc his power structure is unique to him and counter balances Pompey’s #in a lesser pair Pompey would easily gain the upper hand if he wanted to bust it down Sulla style #Crassus in this case has the more impressive measure of political power by keeping them evenly matched at each turn #but I still wouldn’t position him in a vertical power structure with Pompey where he would let Pompey get away with things #esp since there are two times that it appears that both men were trying to get the feel of what the other was thinking #wrt each other and their future plans. a vertical power structure would be intolerable for Pompey at that time tbh #they seemed to value each other as a reliable political partner specifically for this reason #and each recognized the specific power that the other had. you can really feel it when Pompey has to fill Crassus’ role with Caesar lmao #honestly that kind of vertical power structure might have been intolerable to Rome as a whole. hm……thoughts…..#ALRIGHT IM GETTING OFF TOPIC I need to make coffee #ask tag
