Hey everybody! Here are some more of the books that I’ve decided to part with as we continue to downsize and prepare to move. It’s wild to think about the histories and moments that books remind you of. If there was a shining star in the bunch, it would have to be “Where Am I Wearing?” By Kelsey Timmerman, a book where the author takes on the task of visiting the factories that produced the clothing he wears. It was a book that I bought for an English class I started at Bakersfield College that I dropped as soon as I realized that I didn’t have to take it. This book sort of served as a reminder to me about the tension within me, where on one hand I wish I had been better prepared and equipped for things so that I didn’t waste my time or money on things I didn’t need when I already met those requirements and how I should have been able to skate by, but also how on the other hand how much I can miss by taking advantage of what seems like the thing I should have done. This book was really great, really opening up my eyes to how the world works and even how things we think of as good here can create ripple effects and ramifications that need to be properly addressed. It was a book that made me realize that I can’t just sit comfortably and pretend that everything is good when it is not. And yet, there is so much I depend upon as a person in my daily life that does feature some of the things we might consider ugliest aspects of humanity. I don’t know. It’s a book I think back to now and then. I just hope that when I give these away that this book can open the eyes and minds of someone else.
